" The moon was shining, and it drew my attention.
He showed me that animal, on that ring around the moon.
I was playing out in the streets,
'cause i wasnt old enough to go to school.
Children said, 'Minnie, what are you looking at?'
I said 'I'm looking at those elephants going around the moon .'
They laughed at me, 'Minnie's crazy, we don't see no elephants'
I thought everybody could see them.
I wasn't like the other children.
One night I had a dream
This voice spoke to me
'Why dont you draw, or die'
I said 'is that it?
My.' "

I like what’re what your thinking and you could probably continue your talk about queer history, but you guys definitely overthinked on the lavender. I think the usage of color is just so it’s easier to shade it in blakc, since you can’t shade black with black. Purple is kinda close to black tho, like blue. Barbra had purple and Dick had blue probably for those reasons, to stick out in the blackness of Batman and the shadows but not too much so you can still get silhouettes. It’s just an art thing, it’s part of the comic book medium.
With Wayne Family Adventures returning, I would like to overanalyze one panel from one of the preview images, as I have not been able to stop thinking about it…
[ID: Picture of Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake sat in a kitchen area. Tim sits in a chair while Steph sits on the table, giving him a pat on the head and smiling. In the bottom-left corner of the screen, bunches of lavender are visible. End ID.]
So, this panel is a nice moment between Stephanie Brown and her ex-boyfriend Tim Drake, with Steph giving Tim a supportive pat on the head. This may indicate that we will see them discussing their relationship history in some form this season - like the many, many, many other cases of “Thing that comic fans wanted to see acknowledged in canon is done better in the webcomic” before it. But that’s not what I find interesting.
What I find interesting is the flowers in the leftmost corner of the panel.
Drawn in a surprising amount of detail, we see a bundle of lavender. Now, this isn’t wholly interesting in of itself - Stephanie Brown does love purple, after all - but I find the choice of lavender specifically to be really neat and potentially meaningful given the history of Steph and Tim specifically and the mantles of Robin and Batgirl more broadly.
Lavender is a flower that has often had queer meaning assigned to it, dating all the way back to the early 1900s. The flower and references to it have often be used as code for queer community in a similar way to how rainbow flags are used as symbols of queer community.
[Content Warning: The next paragraph will include discussions of homophobia and systemic oppression of queer people more broadly.]
This unfortunately includes the Lavender Scare, the 1950s anti-gay crusade that ran parallel to the Red Scare. That period, horrific in its oppression of queer people in many different ways, also had a surprisingly major influence on the history of comic books in general and Batman in particular. The publication of Seduction of the Innocent in 1954 argued that comic books were having a negative influence on the youth of the day, including claiming that Batman and Robin were gay lovers and that readers would be “corrupted” by their relationship. In response to this book and the massive amount of scrutiny it put them under, comic book publishers founded the Comics Code Authority to regulate their content and DC created the characters of Batwoman and Batgirl as love interests for Batman and Robin in order to “prove” their heterosexuality.
With this in mind, I find the choice of lavender in the frame of this image really interesting. While Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake are not the Batgirl and Robin of the Lavender Scare, they are still a broken-up Batgirl/Robin pairing. Tim Drake is now an explicitly queer man, in a relationship with Bernard. Stephanie Brown has not been made explicitly queer, though the coding is certainly there in several of her appearances (mostly famously in her reaction to Zatanna in Rebirth Young Justice and her relationship with Cass in Future State). With this in mind, the flowers feel like a kind of cheeky nod to the past and how we are now able to move forward - in new, queerer, more lavender directions.
Or, y’know… Maybe Stephanie Brown just really likes purple and I’m thinking about this too hard… Who knows!

eventually she just stopped asking me to follow her because she only brought me a coke when she wanted me to come to class with her
shed jusrt walk up to me and hand me a coke and id get up and go with her

1.I've noticed that ethnically ambiguous people like the Kardashians and Rita Ora use their ethnic ambiguousness to commit cultural appropriation. Though I wouldn't sy the tw cases are the same cause anybody would think the Kardashians looked blakc if it werenmt for the plastic surgeries while people kept insisting that Rita Ora looks black (even though to be she's obviously Albanian but I don't blame Americans for that) to the point of saying that she must be adopted or that her mother cheated.
2.It's definitely shitty of her to exploit that ambiguity though. It probably started as just ignorance cause she is an Albanian from Britian so she didn't experience American culture first hand or know American history bu then laster she kinda vcoose to continue that so... I've noticed that many Albanians who aren't from America think that black hairstyles and hip-hop/rap/r&b are just "American culture" and try to emulate that. But of course not knowing any better doesn't excuse this.
Anon, you can't say she's obviously Albanian when so many people believed she was Black. That's the point. She made little to no effort to correct people on that
If it did start off as ignorance I have yet seen any demonstration on her part acknowledging and learning from it. So she, along with so many other white celebrities profit off our looks by either getting plastic surgery, tanning, or putting on 50 thousands pounds of makeup on to transform their faces

okay lads im slightlu smashed and watching rocky horror, how is everyone my guys, you’re all absolute madlads so i hope everyone is doing good in these weird old times :) i always wanna chat to people if they need it so just msg or anonymous me, i love it
also ACAB duh black lives matter, go donate to those blm petitions and sign about changes in curriculum to include poc history including blakc, indigenous (for any country) and asian history because countries in europe and north america do not get taught about this stuff enough. As someone who takes history of art for a degree at a rather liberal university I am lucky to be taught more about different non white cultures from non white lecturers but that should be the case everywhere because its so important to staying knowledgable about the histories and presents of these oppressive countries and governments
be the change you want to see in the world and support black creators as much as you can, they need all the help you can give right now so ill try to find some more posts and links to petitions and information and accounts run by black people
lets also remember breonna taylor’s murderers still havent been arrested and held accountable yet so lets get on that (http://chng.it/Sd6JJdtPjV that should be the right link for the petition for justice for breonna taylor)
use your voice and your platform to life up black folks, they’re amazing and needed by everyone :), you want to be on the right side of history
#blm#black lives matter#sign those petitions ladies#get going on that activism#keep it going even if your timeline is clear of posts like this again#we gotta stick up for each other#esp the lgbtq+ community#we owe it to them#get those rights back guys#justice for breonna taylor

Film Review: John Lewis: Good Trouble ★★★★
Dawn Porter’s feature length documentary John Lewis: Good Troubleis both an up close and personal biographical study of the activist and longstanding public servant, as well as a compelling examination of the history of the Civil Rights movement, through Lewis’ vital role in it. What results is a fascinating and inspiring chronicle of an extraordinary life of dedication, and a timely look at the…

My reflection
As a student of the college of science, it was a fantastic opportunity to take this course and complete a project in this format; it provided a new perspective on how to learn and study Blakc Pop-music. I have previously worked on numerous academic projects involving biology, chemistry, and other related disciplines.... This is my first time taking part in a project like this.
To be honest, the style of this class is totally different from the classes I have taken before. In other science courses that I take, lectures are like inputs, and online discussions are the outputs. However in this class, we are not only able to take lectures, but also have chances to communicate with classmates. In that sense, we are not passively accepting knowledge from the lecture, but we can learn more by having discussions with classmates. The discussion with others also teaches me a lot and was a successful input during my first investigation on Black pop-music. Taking the class gives me an opportunity to know more about African roots and history. This project gives me spaces to know more about the history and significance behind the performance.
In this project, I researched for related interview videos, performance videos and some articles related to the African roots and tried to connect these with our topic, black expression. I also incorporate something into our group's script to emphasize the link between them. I study most of the scripts so that I can act as a narrator. This project taught me how to communicate, research, and organize. Because this project is divided into sections, organizational ability aids in making each section clear. Connections between sections are also necessary. As a member of the writing group, it is also our responsibility to ensure that the entire event is cohesive and appears as a whole .As a student who is constantly learning how to troubleshoot, I would approach the problem from my perspective first and then solicit suggestions from my group. Improvisation is a crucial skill in music, in particular. Because I didn't have much experience with this, I'd say I'm still learning. This class and project use outside of class has improved my ability to express my own ideas about a piece of music, art, or any other type of information.
Last but not least, this project provided me with a new avenue for learning and expression.

LIFE AFTER LIFE is the first book in the Todd family saga. it was also nominated for both the Walter Scott Prize Best Historical Nove and the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction Best Book. For as she grows, she also dies, repeatedly, in any number of ways. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. Sadly, she dies before she can draw her first breath. Signed by author ontitle page in blakc fountain ink.On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born, the third child of a wealthy English banker and his wife.

You Can't Touch This?...Taking the Vanilla Out of History
You Can’t Touch This?…Taking the Vanilla Out of History
If anyone has not caught on I became obsessed with documenting those that had passed so they could be remembered for future generations a few years ago. Some stories are all very serious — some can be quite dark.
Do we think that serious textual stories are better, more “literary,” whereas something lighter fare is for the under educated? If so, then we have a problem. Today’s generations are…
