Season Announcement Wednesday

This week’s highlight is not just a theatre company promo, but rather a theatre wake-up call. How many of these companies have I supported? How many of these companies have you supported? Though this is not an exhaustive list, it’s a start. It’s a site that highlights companies which have been submitted with links ready to go.

Should you not have money to support them financially, and assuming you’re seeing this on social media, you do have the ability to post about them on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. If they have a YouTube channel, post their videos, especially if they have ads, so that that revenue stream can work to their advantage.

Look at the plays they’ve produced and buy scripts from those playwrights; if you’re an artistic director or part of your company’s season selection committee, consider producing one of the plays when your company re-opens or stage a reading, etc. (when your local COVID orders allow you to safely do so, of course).

Black Theatre Matters. Black Playwrights Matter. Black Actors and Actresses Matter. Black Creatives Matters. Black Designers Matter. Black Art Matters.

Do what you can in the present and then plan for the future. When theatre returns, don’t simply ease into the way things were and then figure out how to diversify your audience/acting/directing/designing/writing/casting practices but, instead, hit the ground running by supporting these companies with intent and purpose. Go see a show!
