Concept dump for Fleck Blackstar. u_u
I still wanted to do that animatic opening thing for practice but I had to nail down how I wanted to draw him first. 😅 I think I’m rather pleased with this design cause he simotaneously looks like friendly uncle-friend and fearless leader.
Fleck Blackstar and The Green Ember belong to S. D. Smith and the Story Warren!

Every time I see a post about The Green Ember on this site, I instantly get a serotonin boost.
A bit belated, but I wanted to go ahead and share thoughts on the first two Green Ember novellas!
Both of these were short enough that I could read each one in a night without staying up unreasonably late, so that was nice.
Some general story thoughts on each (no predictions; I don't have any new ones ATM):
The Black Star of Kingston
My main question after reading this? Are there creatures in these books other than rabbits, wolves, and falcons? I don't remember seeing any mention of creatures other than these in any of the books so far. There may have been references to insects at some point, but nothing else, and the narrative seems to indicate that this book's events are the first time these rabbits have encountered any kind of non-rabbit creature.
I really like the idea of the Black Star being something that was originally a symbol for a very low-class group — coal miners, who are very much blue collar, very much working class — and becomes a symbol of something important and even elite, but while maintaining a connection to its origin.
Also, the whole trope of someone very low-ranking seeing a problem and coming up with a solution and taking it to the authority figure, saying "Here's my idea, someone more important should probably be the one to do something about it," and the authority figure being like "Congratulations, you are now someone more important, go do what you need to do to make this happen" just makes me really happy.
The Last Archer
Jo is so much more of a mess than I realized, oh my pumpernickel.
Nate Flynn might be one of the most relatable characters (for me) in this series, and we haven't even been in his head. I do not have anything like the angst that a lot of the other characters have, but storm me if the whole "He lets the pressure build and build until it gets to be too much" bit isn't me.
(Then again, Jo's pretty relatable too — how much of my life have I spent trying to be The Best at the few things I was really good at, creating one-sided rivalries with whoever happened to be challenging or outdoing me, and neglecting what I'm not good at more than I should've? More of my life than is necessarily a good thing, that's how much.)
I am, however, inordinately annoyed with Jo neglecting his sword, mostly because the "never forget to clean your sword" bits from Narnia (one in LWW, one in Last Battle) were seared into my brain at an early age. For some reason. Don't ask me why.
In other news, someone requested the main Green Ember books at my library, and while I'm happy they're going to get to enjoy good stories, I am immensely salty that they're doing it now. Seriously. I thought these books were obscure enough that I'd be able to renew them once, at least! Ah well. I shall console myself with rereading fantasy mysteries until I can get the books back again.

Here’s how it shook out on this date in music!
(Which I might add is Warren Zevon Birthday….just sayin’…)
January 24th
1953 - Eddie Fisher
Eddie Fisher was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Outside Is Heaven'. The American singer and entertainer divorced his first wife, Debbie Reynolds to marry his best friend's widow, Elizabeth Taylor, which gave him too much unwelcome publicity at the time. Eddie is father of actress Carrie Fisher who died in 2016.
1958 - The Quarry Men
The Quarry Men performed at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, (this was the bands only performance at the club). It was three years later when they appeared again at the Cavern but under their new name as The Beatles.
1958 - Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Jailhouse Rock'. It became the first ever single to enter the chart at No.1 and was Presley's second UK No.1. It went on to sell over 4 million copies in the US.
1962 - Brian Epstein
Brian Epstein signed a management deal with The Beatles. Epstein was to receive 25 per cent of the bands gross earnings, the normal management deal was 10 per cent.
1969 - The Doors
The Doors appeared at Madison Square Garden, New York City, They were paid over $50,000 for the gig making them one of the highest paid acts this year.
1969 - John Lennon & Yoko Ono
New Jersey state prosecutors issue a warning to US record dealers that they would be charged with distributing pornography if they were caught selling the John Lennon / Yoko Ono LP 'Two Virgins'. The front cover of the album showed the pair frontally nude, while the back cover showed them from behind. The album still managed to reach No.124 on the US, but failed to chart at all in the UK, where only 5,000 copies were ever pressed.
1970 - James Sheppard
James Sheppard, the lead singer from the Heartbeats and Shep and the Limelites, was found murdered in his car on the Long Island Expressway. The US singer had been beaten and robbed. The Limelites reached No.2 in the US in 1961 with 'Daddy's Home'.
1970 - Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin appeared at Leeds University, Leeds, England. It was at this show when Zeppelin had a meeting with fine arts lecturer Zacron to discuss their ideas for the album sleeve of the band's next album, Led Zeppelin III. Zacron, born Richard Drew, had studied at Kingston College of Art with members of the Yardbirds.
1976 - Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan started a five week run at No.1 on the US chart with his 17th studio album Desire. The album features 'Hurricane', which protests the conviction of former middleweight boxer Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter for triple murder in 1966, arguing his innocence.
1980 - Pink Floyd
A billboard was erected on Sunset Strip, West Hollywood, California to promote Pink Floyd's new album The Wall. A blank wall was pasted up and each day a brick was ‘removed’ to slowly reveal the inside spread and title of the album.
2016 - David Bowie
David Bowie was at No.1 on both the UK & US album charts with his twenty-fifth and final studio album Blackstar, Bowie's only album to top the Billboard 200 in the US. Bowie was the biggest-selling vinyl artist of 2016 in the UK, with five albums in the vinyl Top 30, including Blackstar as the No.1 selling vinyl album of the year.
2017 - The Allman Brothers Band
American drummer Butch Trucks from The Allman Brothers Band died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in West Palm Beach, Florida, at the age of 69. He played in various groups before forming the 31st of February while at Florida State University in the mid 1960s. He joined the Allman Brothers Band in 1969. Their 1971 live release, At Fillmore East, represented an artistic and commercial breakthrough.

Former Blackstars player Sulley Ali Muntari is in 'trouble' right now!
Sulley Ali Muntari
Referee John Terry has vowed to take police action against controversial Ghana star Sulley Muntari for physical assaulting him during a local friendly match in Accra.
The match official says he still fells some pains one week after the former AC Milan star allegedly thundered him with a hefty slap during a local friendly.
According to a report on Peace FM on Monday, a friendly match between two sides involving two of Ghana’s respected footballers Muntari and Laryea Kingston had to be cancelled after the player with countless disciplinary problems launched his shocking physically attack on the referee.
Locals in the Accra suburb of Kotobabi booed the former AC Milan and Inter Milan player after he slapped the referee in the face and kicked the ball out of play for a card shown him.
Muntari, who has had several disciplinary problems both at club level and with the national team the Black Stars, took the ugly part of his character to the streets when the referee John Terry showed him the yellow card for an offence.
Not pleased with the decision of the referee, Muntari lunged forwarded like a baboon, angrily slapping the ref in the face before grabbing the ball kicking in into the nearby houses in a shocking and disgraceful fits of anger.
Shocked over the conduct of the global football star, players had to calm the referee down while kids who were watching the game chanted chorus of disapproval with the elders booing Muntari.
The attack by the temperamental star led to the abrupt end of the match but Muntari’s friend Laryea Kingston is denying there was a slap.
The denial by Kingston who was present during the match has angered the referee who has now vowed to take legal action against Muntari for assault.
“I have not dropped the case. I will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion with the authorities,” referee Terry told Peace FM.

IKEA flat-pack refugee shelter wins Design of the Year 2016
IKEA's temporary shelter designed for refugees has been named the 2016 Beazley Design of the Year, beating the artwork for David Bowie's final album and a robotic surgeon.
IKEA Foundation's Better Shelter was announced as the winner at an awards ceremony that took place at the Design Museum's new home in west London this evening.
The OpenSurgery robotic surgeon, which could allow users to carry out procedures at home, took the prize for the digital category
Dezeen is media partner for Beazley Designs of the Year, an annual programme celebrating design that "promotes or delivers change, enables access, extends design practice or captures the spirit of the year".
Selected as the winner of the architecture category, IKEA's Better Shelter beat five other category winners to claim the overall prize for its "outstanding contribution towards the global issue of population displacement".
Jonathan Barnbrook's cover for David Bowie's Blackstar album, released just days before his death, was named winner of the graphics category
The IKEA Foundation launched its flat-pack emergency shelter back in 2013 to offer an alternative to the tents often used to house refugees and displaced people, of which there are now more than 65 million worldwide.
Designed to last three years, the shed-like structure is made of lightweight polymer panels laminated with thermal insulation, each of which clip onto a steel frame.
"Better Shelter tackles one of the defining issues of the moment: providing shelter in an exceptional situation whether caused by violence and disaster," said jury member Jana Scholze of Kingston University.
"It shows the power of design to respond to the conditions we are in and transform them. Innovative, humanitarian and implemented, Better Shelter has everything that a Beazley Design of the Year should have."
The Lumos light-up bike helmet took top prize in the transport category
The jury – which included Dezeen's editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs, designer John Morgan, entrepreneur Loyd Grossman and MB Christie of Tech City – also awarded winners across the digital, fashion, graphics, product and transport categories.
Among them was the album artwork for David Bowie's final record, which was designed by Jonathan Barnbrook to reflect the musician's mortality.
"The graphics category caused heated debate among the jury," said Morgan. "The Blackstar design is an iconic piece of graphic design that defined an important moment in musical history."
A video exploring advertising through the eyes of children won the fashion category accolade
The OpenSurgery robotic surgeon, which could allow users to carry out procedures at home, took the prize for the digital category, while the Lumos light-up bicycle helmet was the top pick of the transport projects.
In the fashion category, it was a video exploring advertising through the eyes of children that won the award. Titled Children vs Fashion, it was created by children from CEIP La Rioja School in Madrid, Spain.
Space Cup, a coffee cup for astronauts, topped the product shortlist.
A coffee cup designed specifically for astronauts came top of the products category
All of this year's shortlisted projects are on show in an exhibition at the Design Museum until 19 February 2017.
In an interview with Dezeen ahead of the announcement, Gemma Curtain, curator of Beazley Designs of the Year, said this year's displayed greater engagement with world problems than previous years.

Vuosi sitten kuolleen David Bowienhttp://ift.tt/2icEJkV viimeiseksi jäänyt albumi on lisännyt uusien vinyylilevyjen myyntiä.
Suomalaisen Levykauppa Äxän vinyylilistaa taas hallitsevat tuoreet kotimaiset hiphop-albumit.
Lipponen sanoo.
Britanniassa vinyylimyynti kasvoi viime vuonna 53 prosenttia. Musiikin kokonaismyynnistä vinyylin osuus on silti vain 2,6 prosenttia. Suurin osa musiikista myydään suoratoistopalveluista.
Suomessa äänitealan keskusjärjestön jäsenyhtiöiden myynnistä vinyylin osuus on ollut alle kaksi prosenttia, mutta itsenäisten myyjien myynnin takia kokonaisosuus on jonkin verran suurempi.

New Post has been published on http://www.livingvibes.com/stephen-appiah-richard-kingston-set-play-blackstars/
Stephen Appiah and Richard Kingston Set To Play For Blackstars Again?
Richard Kingston and Stephen Appiah
It has now been confirmed that a former assistant coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun, Ibrahim Tanko, will be Coach Kwasi Appiah’s main assistant during his second stint with the Black Stars.
This was the fallout of a proposal the new Black Stars coach submitted to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) last Tuesday. According to a source close to the GFA, Appiah has proposed Tanko as his first assistant, apparently, due to the rich experience, he brings on board through his huge exposure on the international front, both as a player and coach.
The affable Tanko shot into prominence in 1997 when he won the UEFA Champions League with German Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund, before climaxing his illustrious career with SC Freiburg from 2001-2007. As fate would have it, the man who scouted for the former Stars coach, Avram Grant, at the 2017 Africa Nations Cup in Gabon, incidentally cut his teeth in his coaching career as the assistant coach of the reserve side of Freiburg under his long-time pal, Volker Finke, in 2007.
He later reunited with Coach Finke as an assistant coach for Urawa Red Diamonds in the J1 League in Japan from 2009-2010, served as an assistant coach for FC Cologne in 2011-2012, before rejoining Finke again as a trusted assistant when the German trainer was appointed to handle the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun from 2013-2015. Also contained in the proposal, the source hinted, is the choice of former Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, and former teammate, goalkeeper Richard Kingson, as the new team manager and goalkeepers’ trainer of the Black Stars respectively.
According to Graphic Sports investigations, the issue of a second assistant coach for Appiah remains unresolved since the new Stars coach is said to be looking for somebody who has a vast knowledge of the local terrain and could help in the scouting of players for the local Black Stars. It came to light that the race is now a straight one between the Stars’ incumbent assistant coach, Maxwell Konadu, who served under Appiah during his first stint from 2012-2014, and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, who is currently assisting at the GFA technical directorate.
The source intimated that all outstanding issues regarding the review of the Stars technical staff would be addressed at a GFA Executive Committee meeting next week after which the new Stars coach will be officially unveiled.
Though Kwasi Appiah, who made history in 2013 as the first Ghanaian coach to qualify the Black Stars to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, is yet to sign the new two-year contract, he was officially due to start work last Monday, May 1.
