There’s a lot to do. It’s a new year with new goals and January is moving along right on schedule, however, what’s most important at this very moment is the upcoming Black Ski Weekend.

Officially called Black Ski Weekend, it’s a yearly pilgrimage for Black folks to convene and share their love for the slopes together where hopefully they can enjoy it in peace. Cuz, #2018taughtus that #RacismisAlive and it’s hard as hell being Black in the world especially if you do things��“they” don’t think YOU as a Black person should be doing.  

This year, you can join in on the fun at Blue Mountain Ski Resort in Canada during the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, attendees will celebrate the civil rights leader’s vision of equality for all. This event begins with a dedication ceremony to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and features tours to the famous Underground Railroad museum located near the ski resort.

Participants will experience a true winter festival full of indoor/outdoor activities, skiing, snowboarding, tubing, foods, social events, night-time parties, receptions, comedy show, fashion, networking with other exciting people, and of course… snow!

Blue Mountain is conveniently located within driving distance of nearby urban metropolitan cities including Detroit, (4.5 hours), Toronto, (1.5 hours), and Buffalo, NY (3 hours). A truly international collective of over 2,600 participants, representing 39 states and several countries is expected!

It doesn’t stop there. Head over to Steamboat, Colorado and join the National Brotherhood of Skiers for their annual summit and fundraiser in March. This prestigious black ski club has been around since 1974! Where have we been?! If you’re looking for a “Wakanda Forever” kinda vibe, then you gotta hurry up and get your ticket for the Urban WinterFest 2019 – Zermatt Resort, UT, Jan 17-21 that includes Park City and the Sundance Festival. Girl, grab your bag and go!

It was our first time on the slopes for the season! @skibutternut weekday $25 lift tickets is perfect for families. Kid 1 goes back to virtual classes this week and we wanted to get some fresh air while making family memories before her school load picks back up. Mission accomplished! If you are looking for a fun way to enjoy family time during the winter months, I highly recommend giving skiing a try. Look for deals and even second hand gear. Skiing doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, if you’re willing to get creative. I got up at 5 am today to get work done and also worked in the car during the ride there and back. We can’t wait to get back out there again. Thank you, @mountsunapee for hosting our family for an incredible day of skiing. Located, just 1 hour and 45 minutes from Boston, Mount Sunapee is perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway. Despite its small size, the resort has decent vertical with dependable snow. Even with temperatures in the 50’s today (not typical for January in NH), the mountain had plenty of terrain to keep our entire family happy. The mountain has stunning views of Lake Sunapee from above, as well as a full service lodge with rentals, food, drinks, store, lessons and a dedicated learning area. We have found a new favorite family ski mountain. The resort itself is located in a large NH state park which has a variety of activities.
