8 years ago Blackout was released by Britney Spears. 2007 was a dark and bizarre time in Britney's life and this album reflected that artistically. The music was ahead of its time and inspired a change in pop music. Blackout contained elements of electro pop, trance, dub step, and dance. Rebellious and shameless, this was a departure from previous mainstream pop efforts. I was 16 and experienced major life changes during this time. The timing of this album was eerily brilliant. Not one Britney album, or any album as of late has been inspiring as Blackout personally for me. Celebrity can be damning to music, but in this case it was embraced and weirdly relatable.
