Was tagged by @surgicalpen1sklinik to list my 9 current favorite albums ✨ Tough one to define but here goes… I guess gonna list 9 albums I’ve been spending tons of time with lately:

Talk About the Weather — Red Lorry Yellow Lorry (1985): Was recently reminded of the moment I had with these guys years ago when I was first diving deeper into post punk and I hadn’t really revisited them since. This album is just so good. Such an underrated goth classic.

Burning Bridges — Naked Eyes (1983): Another underrated classic, synthpop this time! Just such solid fun 80s pop, some huge hits on this album but some of the lesser known tracks are suuuuch gems.

The Wall — Pink Floyd (1979): After watching the film adaptation I’ve been kind of obsessed ngl. Whole album is fantastic (duh) but the last like 10 songs in particular just absolutely blow my mind honestly. I’ve had “In the Flesh” stuck in my head for like a week.

Technophelia — Geneva Jacuzzi (2016): After seeing her live recently I’ve just been so enamored by her, this album in particular is just so so so fantastic. A sound I’ve been missing honestly. I said it in the tags of a post recently but she’s giving such a perfect blend of Severed Heads Siouxsie Sioux realness, it’s to die for.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars — David Bowie (1972): The Wall had me thinking about other concept albums I’ve loved so I’ve also been revisiting this one; I had a massive Bowie phase in high school lol. It’s obviously a cold take to say this album is great but tbh I’ll confidently call “Moonage Daydream” one of my absolute favorite songs of all time. It’s so special to me.

The Correct Use of Soap — Magazine (1980): And speaking of favorites of all time, goddamn I love Magazine. I love all Magazine, but I’ve been vibing really hard with this album recently for whatever reason. Howard Devoto is one of my favorite lyricists of all time too.

RAT WARS — HEALTH (2023): Another band I saw recently that just destroyed me, they’ve put on such an insanely good live show both times I’ve seen them now so of course I’ve been listening through their most recent album (and more!) a bunch over the last couple of weeks.

Last Rights — Skinny Puppy (1992): And back to the concept album theme; is it a hot take to call Last Rights a concept album? To me it’s the greatest concept album of all time. I could write a novel on this one so I’ll just leave it at that. Love love love love love.

Idols — Indradevi (2018): It blows my fucking mind that Indradevi is so slept on. Genuinely abysmal that they only have FORTY-ONE monthly Spotify listeners. One of my all time favorite bands, Matthew Setzer’s Cambodian pop / drum and bass / dark electronic fusion side project. Please listen to Indradevi.

As I prepare to transition into my eldergoth years, I'm gaining more interest in wearing better-quality clothes in natural fabrics. Apart from lucky thrift store finds, do you have any recommendations for stores that sell good-quality, spooky-adjacent clothes in cotton, silk, wool, linen, and the like? Thank you!

Holy Clothing has excellent stuff made from rayon. (Caveat: they still use a slur in describing some of their designs, sigh.)

J. Jill and Soft Surroundings carry spooky-adjacent things during the winter holiday season. They’re on the pricy side, so I recommend looking for their stuff on eBay. (Also use search keywords like “black”, “silk”, “cashmere”, and so on.)

Aaaaaand that’s where my suggestions run out, dammit. Okay peeps, anyone have additions to the list?

I got tagged by @lysistra to do that “your URL as songs” thingy. I did it before back in 2022 and I still stand by the songs I chose then, you can check out the last one here, but I decided to redo it with the small challenge of not repeating any songs from the last time! :D

R — Rodent by Skinny Puppy. Saw this song live 4 times last year, then it came on at a damn coffee shop while I was out with Angel and Lissy recently and we all lost our minds. Loooove it.

I — It’s Over by Choir Boy. One of the first concerts I went to this year was Choir Boy. I really really love them, their whole dreamy nostalgic atmosphere is done so perfectly, consistently totally enamored by them.

V — Valium by The Tear Garden. No brainer choice, this is like already a song of the year for me. I’ve been obsessed since January, it’s everything to me atm.

E — EUPHORIA by HEALTH. Definitely another big song for me so far. I just saw HEALTH live and they killed it, but as much as their darker heavier stuff is great I’ve really been digging their occasional brighter synth tracks.

T — The Final Blows by Lead Into Gold. Never gonna shut up about this album. I saw this song live 5 times last year. Makes me lose my fucking mind every single time.

G — Get Down by Revolting Cocks. This is the first song I ever got fucked with the strap to :) Good memories, hottest song ever written, need I say more, etc.

O — Oh, Cruel Darkness Embrace Me by IAMX. I fucking adore Metanoia, it’s definitely an all time favorite album. Been coming back to this one a lot, it’s just so good. 

T — The Bladders of a One Thousand Bedouin by Severed Heads. This is one of the songs that convinced me to do that “instrumental industrial” playlist awhile back. I love this whole damn album but omfg… This is song in particular is just so sounds.

H — Hunger Cries by High Functioning Flesh. Song that makes me lose my fucking mind every single time I hear it. One time I was on acid and got stuck listening to this on repeat while standing naked in the corner of my bedroom and it was like. Transcendent.

1.) What is on your mind right now? I should be writing. Or drawing. Or doing fucking anything other than slowly slipping into apathy. 

2.) Who are some of your closest friends? Nicole, who I have known since 8th grade, Josh (aka Fuckstick), who I am currently so incredibly angry at that it’s turned to numbness, and Jomi, who has not spoken to me in a very long time and may never again. Why do you think I’m always rambling on tumblr? :P

3.) Where’s somewhere you want to travel right now? Honestly, you’ve got me missing the bay. Or maybe it’s just that I’m looking around realizing I have no desire to stay in Chino permanently, and also no desire to return to LA.

4.) Favorite TV show/cartoon/anime/movie, and why’s it your favorite? Watchmen, because the Watchmen film is amazing and anyone who thinks otherwise is cordially invited to blow me. Treasure Planet, because it’s funny as hell, really cool visually, and just generally Good in terms of story and worldbuilding. (Also because John Rzeznik, back before John Rzeznik started phoning it in.) Gia, because somewhere along the line mmm Angelina Jolie turned into me finding this incredibly sad story just...really comforting.

5.) Is there someone you’re missing? ...see #2. Honestly, I’m missing my goddamn life, but it’s a bit late for that.

6.) What are three goals you have for your future? Buy a new (old) van, settle into a decent job where I at least somewhat fit in, get more involved in the haunt scene as a designer.

7.) What are three goals you have for yourself? ...I don’t think I have those sorts of goals.

8.) What are some of your deepest fears? Ehh. I’m most easily unnerved by weird sounds (like...witch house/trip hop stuff that’s just ominous noise but feels like it’s about to resolve into words you don’t wanna hear), super squicked out by squirmy things (think worms, not snakes, snakes are adorable), and slightly claustrophobic. I don’t think I have anything more deep-seated than that.  

9.) Favorite song at the moment? I’m having a re-obsession with the Moulettes’ “Devil of Mine.”

10.) Do you believe in the supernatural/paranormal? Yep.
