@meetingofmindsuk by Safe: On Black British Men Reclaiming Space - Tuesday 12th March 2019, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM @ Foyles Bookshop, Level 6, 107 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0DT Writer, poet and host of the hit podcast 'Mostly Lit', Derek Owusu joins us to discuss the position of the Black male in Britain, as told through the rich and varied stories collected in his anthology 'Safe: On Black British Men Reclaiming Space'. Featuring essays from poets, writers, musicians, actors and journalists, Safe offers personal insight into the Black male experience in relation to schooling, media and community—and shows us how a new generation of Black voices is inspiring and educating us to re-examine our ideas about British identity. Derek will chair a panel including Mostly Lit partner and blogger Alex Reads, and author and playwright Courttia Newland (The Scholar; The Gospel According to Cane). They will open up a discussion about culture, sexuality and well-being, and will examine what it really means for Black men to reclaim and hold space in the current social landscape. This event will be followed by a Q&A and a book signing with Derek, Alex and Courttia.
