Half Life 1 is a game that rewards you for being kind of a jackass and punishes you for doing your job. I don't think people's irritation with Gordon is completely unfounded.

Like the first thing you can do in the game is try to get a security guard in trouble and blow up someone's food. And of course this is down to individual play style but shut up I'm having fun.

The first thing Half Life 2 teaches you is that you can throw things at people. There's like three whole tutorials about it. Picking up a can to throw at a metrocop's head, throwing things around with the Gravity Gun, throwing pheropods at people and spreading that shit everywhere.

This is not down to individual play style and is mandatory for progression (except throwing things at people WITHOUT the gravity gun that's optional but it's fun still!)
