Meanwhile, troubling new leads arise, taking Our Team in a surprising direction.

And Draco, still hiding his relationship with his SIO from the upper echelons of the Auror force, is definitely not falling in love with Harry Potter along the way. Not at all. Don’t be ridiculous.

Draco is reeling from his loss, and Harry is trying to be the best boyfriend he can, which may mean not being Draco’s guv any longer. Harry’s uncertain what his team’ll find as they press deeper in the investigation, but he knows they will all be tested, perhaps more than they can bear.

But they haven’t a choice, have they? It’s the bloody Death Eaters, after all, and the political integrity of Wizarding Britain and their magical allies hangs in the balance.

Seven-Four-Alpha are back in London with available resources of the Ministry tracking their every move. Draco Malfoy remains lost, last seen in Thibodaux, Louisiana, as MACUSA was closing in. Harry is raging, barely in control of his magic, and the rest of the team are battered and unsure. Their recent failure haunts them, as does the spectre of a MACUSA-Ministry alliance under the control of the Quahog administration and its shadow puppetmaster, Aldric Yaxley. The Dementor crisis with Luxembourg is brewing in the background, as is a conflict with Rodolphus Lestrange. And that’s not even mentioning the bargain Blaise struck with Death to return his cup. The team have very little energy or resources for one fight, much less several of this magnitude simultaneously.

Should they fail, though, political tyranny will grip both sides of the Atlantic and evils recently banished may return. Each of them is fighting for something they hold dear, but no victory comes without a price. Still, desperate situations call for desperate measures, and desperation appears to be all they have.

Hi! I love your Rodolphus HC. Do you have any Lestrange Snr HC?

Thank you for the ask, anon, and sorry for the late reply! More than you'd think, actually, so much so I had to put them below the cut.

It's canon that Lestrange Snr was part of Tom Riddle's Slytherin gang, although we don't know if they were in the same year. I headcanon that they were, the two of them shared a dormitory. Rodolphus and Rabastan are clearly both devoted to Voldemort (the two of them spend 14 years in Azkaban for LV too, lest we forget, and even Bellatrix says it - we alone were faithful, we alone tried to find him), and I like to think that their father played a key role in this.

So. Roland Lestrange, heir to the English branch of the Lestrange family, whose grandfather was Minister for Magic, who lives in a huge Cornish castle and whose Vault in Gringotts is amongst the best guarded meets Tom Riddle, dirt-poor son of a nobody with a cockney accent, who comes from East London and is more than rough around the edges on his first night at Hogwarts. And he knows that he will be eaten alive in Slytherin. This is the 1930s-1940s and I admit that I'm not an expert on all-boys boarding schools for rich kids at the time but I somehow don't think it'd be the easiest ride for someone like young Tom.

But boy, is he wrong.

Because by the end of Tom Riddle's stay at Hogwarts that boy is just a pale memory. I am firmly convinced that Tom MyFairLady-ed himself and made himself into one of them, just better. And one, all of his classmates fall in line. If he cannot charm them, he manipulates them; if that fails, he threatens them and when he still doesn't get his way he resorts to outright violence. He rules them with both love/admiration and fear. Voldemort's a natural leader. I headcanon Roland to be something of a right-hand-man while in Hogwarts. (That title is then snatched away by Antonin Dolohov, who accompanies Tom in some of his continental travels, and later on by Bellatrix herself.)

What's this man like?

Not as pretty as Rodolphus (but then again, few men are <3), but easy on the eyes, and he has an elegant bearing, hard features, and lots of money. He's also Tom Riddle's friend and all the ladies want a chance to at least sit next to him.

Generally a cold man. Dutiful. Tom found him easy to rely upon, and obedient enough, but without a true spark (that both Rodolphus and Rabastan do have, in different ways).

He marries Margot something (that's a headcanon I still have to figure out), who was a first/second year when he was in seventh, as soon as she finishes Hogwarts. He's known this was the case for his whole life and when the time comes he does what's expected of him. They do end up with a surprisingly successful marriage, based on duty that becomes companionship that becomes a sort of comfortable love. She's truly, honestly heartbroken when he dies.

And he does die. Before (or shortly after) he turns fifty.

The culprit?

Lord Voldemort himself.

It is a huge headcanon of mine that Voldemort is directly responsible for the deaths of several of his former classmates, the only people who would remember Tom Marvolo Riddle before he was Lord Voldemort. He poisons them, curses them, inflicts a pandemic of Dragon Pox on the country to get rid of them. Roland Lestrange was ill for some time before he died, so was Druella Black. Orion Black dies suspiciously early after his son's disappearance - many would have taken it as suicide. Alphard Black dies around that time as well- he wasn't old at all. An accident, they said. (This is one of the most callous things he does, in my personal headcanons, because he knew these people as a young man and has no (0) mercy in disposing of them.) After they are gone, no one except for Dumbledore (and maybe Borgin and Slughorn) remember who Tom Riddle was before.

His children.

He does love his children, but you guys know me. You know how much I love dysfunctional families and family systems, and The Crown and Succession etc etc. I've spoken at length about the Blacks.

Rodolphus is very much the golden child. The eldest son, the heir, the perfect one, bright and more powerful, the strong one. Rodolphus only ever made one mistake - marrying Bellatrix. He chose her, pleaded with his father to have her, got his wish. And the thing is, Roland likes Bellatrix (especially after discovering that the Dark Lord likes Bellatrix), he can understand the appeal. But he dislikes that she cannot (or will not) give his son children, that he dies without there being Lestrange heirs.

Rabastan is younger, and born after a difficult birth, and I imagine him as a sickly child. In my headcanons, he's bisexual with a preference for men. Now, he never confesses this to his father but Roland can pretty much sense that there is something queer about him and dislikes it immensely. He loves his son very much, but he doesn't like him. He mislikes that he refuses to marry, the way he conducts himself, the complete lack of duty, especially since his brother has no children. (Rabastan feels this deeply, this lack of love, of physical affection, hurts him. He's a mama's boy. He's a bit of a Roman Roy.)

There's a portrait of him in what was once his study (the recurring gag here is that everyone in Rodolphus' life will always refer to it as Roland's study) and he is cranky. Portraits aren't precise reflections of who the wizard/witch was when they were alive and Roland's portrait's personality is cheerless at best.)

BIOGRAPHY:

Born April 1st, 1952 Amycus came into the world shortly before his sister, Alecto. A fact he holds over her to this day, the wizard is and always has been more than proud thinking himself to be the older of the two. And the more emotional twin.

His childhood was spent with the education of every pureblood wizard, the standard curriculum that one would follow until the day that the Hogwarts letter would arrive. By then Amycus already knew both the expectations of others as well as his own wishes and needs. Early on her found himself drawn to the art of alchemy, the magic behind it. At the end of the day wasn’t it the one true way that the world was woven?

Upon his arrival at Hogwarts young Amycus was sorted into Slytherin, found himself at home and granted his parents’ approval on the matter. He found himself a group of friends, never having to look back. Beyond that it was immediately clear that he’d taken a liking to certain matters and over the years Transfiguration, Charms, Potions and eventually Alchemy became part of his class roster and daily schedule. There was something drawing him in, into the art of turning one thing into another. To him any of those topics and classes inevitably ended with exactly that, whether it was the simple transfiguration of one item to another or the way charms seemed to adjust the flow of things, all the way down to the way alchemy seemed to have the power to take one element only to replace it with another. It was magic in its purest form.

And so, upon graduation, Amycus found an apprenticeship with an alchemist. He was dedicated and willing to learn, eventually become a full-fledged alchemist himself who then, years later would open his own shop, Aureum Solis. With time a second location was added, in Hogsmeade and over time a portal was constructed, his own invention outside any network.

Of course, the war did not miss the wizard. Given his family and friends, the young man found himself equally drawn to the cause of the Dark Lord. After all, wasn’t the idea of purity the path he walked as well? Amycus was ambitious, and so he joined up with the others and eventually received the Dark Mark. The wizard doesn’t deny his involvement in the cause, if asked but is also smart enough not to parade the fact around.

Over recent years the older Carrow twin has managed to establish himself as one of the top alchemists for the cause. Always on the search for more, the desire to discover even the path to immortality has been added to his goals. Amycus has become someone to supply his fellow Death Eaters with things such as small smoke nades and other items. Just recently he’s discovered a way to turn almost anything to stone, wondering just what he can use that fun little party trick for.

IMMORTAL VAMPIRE ARC.

Just as a note: if I ever write or reference an immortal arc for Jack, I will be referencing this verse, and it is heavily affiliated with both WWDITS canon and musecraft & shadowcovcn. Jack’s primary ship is with Laszlo & Nadja in this arc, but like them he is also polyamorous and has taken plenty of other lovers during his immortal life.

This verse diverges from POTC canon after the events of On Stranger Tides: Jack encounters Laszlo and Nadja while on their golden age of piracy Caribbean honeymoon. The three quickly hit it off and, after having the prospect of immortality dangled in front of him mere hours after meeting, Jack jumps at the prospect of vampiric transformation. At this point, the Black Pearl is safe ( and stuck ) in a bottle, and will remain that way for the next 250 years.

Temperance isn’t easy for him as a newborn vampire and he struggles for the first six months between his aversion to killing and the hunger that has taken hold of his rational mind, beginning a nomadic lifestyle with Nadja and Laszlo as they travel from port to port. It isn’t long before the age of piracy itself starts to fade: Shipwreck Cove and Tortuga soon fall to the English and Spanish, leaving the number of safe ports available to the trio of vampires dwindling by the year. It is at this moment that Jack must finally shed the legend that he has spent his entire mortal life creating: Captain Jack Sparrow becomes a name committed to legend, a pirate who disappeared at sea, with no records of ever being apprehended or hanged for his crimes. Jack, meanwhile, leaves the Caribbean with Laszlo and Nadja to join the vampire cult led by Baron Afanas.

This verse encompasses the next two hundred and fifty years of Jack’s immortal life, from a failed stint at Baron’s court to his hijinks in pre-revolutionary France, his escape from the guillotine to his adventurer era as the Industrial Revolution takes hold, to languishing on a yacht in the Caribbean during the Great War, before finally settling in London in the mid 20th century. To humans at least, Jack runs a Soho club that becomes an integral part of the emerging rock ‘n’ roll scene of the 1960s and 1970s. To his fellow vampires and other supernatural creatures, Jack becomes part swindler, part expert in magical and occult artefacts. Disliking or indeed making enemies of most other vampires, Jack prefers to exist in both the human and vampire worlds, never quite belonging to either.

Jack is reunited with Nadja when she travels to London with Guillermo to take up a place at the Supreme Vampiric Council, and after she ditches the council to return to Staten Island at the start of season 4, Jack returns there with her.
