this scene is so domestic and honest and...loving that..yana...we just keep winning.

ciel doesnt have to ask. no one would care if his butler gets a tea or not, sebastian is a demon, he doesnt have to drink. no...this is, just like sebastian dressing ciel up in stuff he doesnt need to, doting to him; ciel showing volnurability...

Black Butler chapter 212: The Butler, Heading South

The chapter dropped today!! Fortunately i had enough points to read the chapter!!

Here's some spoiler tidbits:

The two finally board the train, Sebastian suggested for o!ciel to eat breakfast

While in the dining car, they talked about the others and wondered how they're doing, Sebastian is still dissing as always lol

Lau is cooperating because he wants to get his hands on "advanced medical technology", according to o!ciel

Out of the rest, o!ciel says that he has no doubts with the Baldo-Lau team, he's more worried about the other three

They also talked about the servants, more like a flashback wonder, talking about the servants' former condition by the time they were taken into the Phantomhive household

Near the end of the chapter, the servants are shown in individual panels with snake dead, finny injured 😭😭😭 it's so heartbreaking

Chapter 212 (Come now, our holiday of revenge awaits…)

There’s something about the blurb, “The Butler : Heading South” that bothers me. It is a dictum and it means “if something head south, it begins to fail or start going bad.”

Now, I don’t want to claim that it is a freaking premonition, but of course knowing Yana T it could be a double whammy. On the surface, she only meant it in a geographical sense. From London Victoria train station, modern transport will take one an hour to reach Brighton using the southern line.

It is interesting that Ciel and S’ coach is No. 6.

Their minds discussing but Ciel, knowing the quagmire he is in only gets to communicate with his servant telepathically, hence the meeting of their eyes on the third page. *

Ch 212: That Butler, Going South

Basically, the chapter covers Sebastian and Ciel traveling by train to Brighton, discussing the servants’ missions as Ciel enjoys breakfast in the dining car.

(Remember that all the missions are happening simultaneously more or less, so Ciel doesn’t know how successful or not they all were.)

It’s actually quite brilliant of Yana and her team to time things like this. This chapter is a great way for fans who may have lapsed during the servant arcs to catch up again, or even for new fans lured in by the anime to get a taste of the manga.

It’s also interesting to see a how a some of the scenes mirror panels/moments from previous arcs.

For example, the shot of Sebastian and Ciel on the train together is akin to the end of the circus arc. (And admire how much her art has improved!)

Later, we get a (shocking, to me, anyway) shot of Sebastian sitting at the table with Ciel as equals, reminiscent of when they ironed out the details of the contract.

The chapter begins with the two of them on the train in their first class compartment, en route to Brighton from Reading.

Sebastian, ever the conscientious butler, notices the time and mentions breakfast, but Ciel is cautious: they’re fugitives, after all. Sebastian points out that most people wouldn’t expect a criminal to be casually taking a meal in the dining car. Seeing his point (and since Ciel is driven by his stomach lol), they go to have breakfast together.

They then discuss the servants’ missions and what they expect. For example, Ciel brings up the point that Lau can only be trusted so far, and he is the one who first brought their attention to the whole mess back in the Campania arc with Karstein Hospital. And he is a mafia boss.

But, both of them acknowledge that Bard is the smartest and most capable of the four servants (Bard, Mey, Finny, Snake), and that he managed to make it to the UK all the way from America alone. Plus, he’s trustworthy. Ciel points out that’s precisely why he paired them up. (Seeing them compliment my man 😭😭… Take that, Bard haters!)

They also discuss the mission Ran Mao and Mey are undergoing and ofc Snake and Finny. (I’m sorry but I’m tired and I don’t care as much about the other servants as Bard so I’m… not going into detail on their pages. Maybe tomorrow if I have time and spoons I’ll make an add-on to this going over those pages.)

This panel is one of my fave moments in the chapter… it translates more or less like this:

Mey: For our lord

Bard: With pride

Snake: With my life on the line

Finny: I do the assigned work and see it through to the end

Despite initially being wary of leaving their compartment, when Sebastian suggests they leave the dining car, Ciel wants to stay and stretch his legs. It’s only a few hours to Brighton by train.

Looks like next week we’ll start the arc in earnest and maybe learn how they plan to infiltrate the hotel.

Kuro 212 Summary and Thoughts:

The boys are back!

On a choo choo train to Brighton, taking the long trip around due to being hunted by the police

Ciel still suspects Lau and how he knows about the more modern tech for the collection for the Dolls. Chalks it up to Lau also seeing the connections but I have a feeling that Lau could be under the Undertaker’s command as well or is secretly a shinigami (as I don’t recall him opening his eyes in the anime since season 1. The manga he’s done but let’s face it. New studio messed up on Vincent’s eyes). Lau is known for also using people to get what he wants much like Ciel himself.

Ciel and Sebastian basically sum up the last 3 arcs between the servants.

I know Ciel might not care about his servants all that much but he cared enough to take them in and even recalled with Sebastian how much they’ve grown since being taken in, well Finny at least. I have a feeling he’ll still be upset or sad to a point once he finds out about Snake or at least feel guilty. He destroyed Snake’s “family” only for him to live a short life free until his death. (Yana I’m still mad at you about that)

Now they just have to wait it out and see what awaits them in Brighton. For now, let them enjoy some tea

Blame Yana T’s rendition of Full English Breakfast on Chapter 212 that I suddenly craved for it.

Apologies if you are a vegan bc of the meat assault.

How to make your own full English breakfast fast with your combination :

The basic idea would be like this. “There is no fixed menu or set of ingredients for a full breakfast.”

Mine goes something like this: assorted small sausages, hash browns, baked beans in tomato sauce, fried/grilled tomato slices, fried/grilled mushrooms, eggs, toasted bread. Paired with orange juice and tea.

You need sausages, different varieties. If you only have the Frankfurter, that’s fine too. Cut them in half and fry them. I love hash browns so I reheat them in the oven. It is safe to say that I didn’t prepare anything here, but just fry them after purchasing them from the supermarket. There is a British shop here but I didn’t like their sausages so Austrian it is. Choose huge tomatoes for frying after you cut them in slices. I love mushrooms too. After cleaning them by removing the outer layer (don’t soak them in water !) and fry both sides. Baked beans in tomato sauce can either be bought or cooked. It is your choice. There is one by Heinz, but I prefer the Austrian product, bc it is cheaper and organic. Calculate how much baked beans you would eat, I use my Chinese small bowl. Microwave it. The crowning glory is the sunny side up eggs 🍳!! And there you go. I love some toasted bread with butter so yes, bring them on. All in all I spent 15 euros for this and I didn’t get to finish all of the ingredients.

I ate full English breakfast in London and Edinburgh but the best I had was in Prague. It was in a clandestine street in the inner district where no one would notice that it was a coffeehouse but once you entered inside, it was so spacious, full of living plants and the owner was playing blues. So it was good. It is a full meal for a day bc of how heavy it is. Others have sworn of its dietary integrity.

Of course you can also make it vegan. There are sausages based on other ingredients like beans, but like always it is up to you.
