i know it’s supposed to be funny but i have a lot of feelings about zuko making iroh (very bad) tea and earnestly going “i hope i made it the way you like it” and iroh choking the first cup down and throwing the second away when zuko isn’t looking because he doesn’t want to hurt his feelings 😭😭😭

Sleep does not come easy tonight, so I’ve followed the good advice from a dear person in my life and have fixed myself some bitter tea.

I’ve turned on some music, put together a second volume of a dungeon synth playlist I can listen to, and scrolled through the hashtags #crt, #dungeon synth, #goblincore, and found something there.

So now I am waiting for my tea to cool off, using my really nice and expensive typographer’s keyboard to write this post like I would put together a moody spell, and envision myself by candle­light.

Something about blurry, about fuzzy, about lower fidelity, something you don’t put into words, on purpose. Something about being ageless, yet mortal.

I’m thinking about Moomins. About that travel through Austrian snow‑covered mountain forests. About the simple joy of not only being left alone, but requiring an ignorance of the world’s comings and goings.

And there’s a sadness in those who fail to demand being left alone: you can see it in how they constantly try to get your attention, as if that’s what’ll cure them of having the world in their heads.

May your inner worlds remain free of the world at large.

May your inner worms turn the detritus of the world into fertile soil for your mind.

May you find bitter tea for your sleepless nights. And dungeon synth music.

alright but imagine in a few years, buck has been around the block, explored himself, and never really stopped thinking tommy, the one that got away, until he's sat in a gay bar after another failed date, just drinking alone and settling into comfortable silence before he sees tommy on the other side of the bar, gently swaying to the music.

their eyes meet, obviously, and the world stops spinning for a second, and it feels like they're back to that night in buck's loft. they drift towards each other slowly, both of them trying not to make it awkward.

buck tells himself he's just going to say hi, tommy tells himself they'll just catch up over some beers and part ways at the end of the night. except they don't.

they fall right back into the groove of them. they drink and laugh and tell stories, growing closer and closer until their noses almost brush when buck throws his head back to laugh. buck brings his head down again, meeting tommy's eyes and seeing his pupils dilate and his cheeks flush.

buck tilts his head, moving an inch closer.

"tommy..."

"yeah?"

"can i?"

"it's a bad idea."

"that's not an answer."

buck brushes their noses together, "i don't wanna let you go again. so can i?"

tommy swallows hard, nodding. after so many years, he still can't say no to him, or to his stupidly wide eyes, or to his dazzling smile, or his pretty birthmark.

when they finally kiss, it really does feel like that first one. but older somehow. more mature. more practiced, maybe. but still raw and passionate and gentle.

buck forgets about the music, the club, the dancing bodies framing their still ones. he forgets about his horrible date from earlier or the scars that are bound to reopen in the morning.

"i've missed you."

"evan-"

"it doesn't have to mean anything. it can just be casual, i just- i miss you, tommy."

it will never be just casual with you, evan, tommy thinks. "okay," he says instead.

it turns out tommy was right, it was a terrible idea. old wounds reopen and scabs get picked at. but in the morning, when tommy wakes up and looks down at evan in the soft morning glow, he remembers everything he gave up to try to let evan go. he remembers how much he's missed in the meantime. and he remembers evan's words from the night before.

I'm excited for Shatterspin as much as the next guy but Ninjago is quickly falling into the trap of having every piece of related media be set within a very limited time frame. Why does Garmadon have to look for the Forbidden Five in the same era as the Serpentine War? There's hundreds if not thousands of years between that and, say, the Spinjitzu Brothers books, why can't we explore that time more?
