Ever read an actual novel and just think: This author totally writes fanfiction. The tropes are there. I see them. And I'm here for them.

I've been sucked into this book for two days straight. I can't put it down. It's a real damn shame there's not fanart whatsoever of this series. WHY?? And literally no one is talking about it aside from reviews on amazon. This makes me upset.

and yesss baby trapping. something about eichi claiming ownership of you, letting people know he’s the ones who’s making your body change and that the kid you’re carrying is his. he’d be so smug and happy, making sure everyone gets to see the bump and let you know you’re taken

What's your favorite of the more darker kind of ship tropes for Mev/Nef?

This is a kinda difficult question, I love it tho!

I always adore hurt & comfort especially if hurt and comfort are both dealt out by the same character. That's a pretty popular/standard trope tho.

Manipulation and an obsession with/addiction to each other is less a prompt and more a way to describe their entire relationship lol.

So I'll go with ownership/possessiveness. Mev claiming Nef to be his 'little gift from the gods' started out a something flattering, something that made him feel so special. But how those words have changed their meaning once things started turning sour, how it suddenly made him feel more like an object, made to be owned, and less like a lover. And I do love how "You're mine!" hit's different depending on the situation. And of course, markings, I adore them, from bitemarks and jewellery/collars to something a little more permanent like tattoos, scars and burn marks <3

The doll/puppet prompt is a close second that kinda ties into the ownership/possessiveness one tbh. With Mev controlling the way Nef dresses and looks and smells like in general by buying him expensive clothes, parfums, jewellery and everything Nef could ever ask for. If he wears what Mev wants him to wear he'll get complimented, if he doesn't he gets backhanded comments. It's subtly, but effective enough so that M!Nef still wears the Victorian suits Mev had chosen for him, he is still clean shaven and short haired the way Mev likes decades after his death. Even L!Nef has issues freeing himself of Mev's influence since over the centuries they had been together he had adopted Mev's tastes. Btw I do headcanon that Nef had long hair when it was in fashion, but Mev hated it so he just grabbed him by the pony tail and cut it off.

Mev is controlling his behaviour too. A hand on his shoulder gently guiding him, Nef's gaze instinctively flicking to Mev to see his reaction, to see if he approves. A backhand when Nef curses, or putting a fork through his hand should he behave inappropriately at the dinner table is hardly needed anymore-

[In the TwoNefsAU Mev would be so thrilled that M!Nef still looks and behaves the way he wants him too. Meanwhile L!Nef is slowly managing to develop his own style and started (mildly) cursing as an act of rebellion and Mev does fully intend to 'fix' him as his time with the Resistance has clearly tainted him.]

The more on-the-nose version of the prompt is like in my fic 'Puppet' where Mev learns to blood bend Nef into being literally his puppet which is a violation of Nef's freedom on a whole nother level. Or my AU where Mev carves a sigil into Nef's tongue that prevents him from speaking about certain things. I'm not sure if I ever talked about it on this blog or just in private but I love it so.
