Sarah Bishop (Guardian of Diana): Fierce protector of her family and intensly loyal. At first concerned about Diana's relationship with a vampire but soon becomes very happy for them as they welcome their own children into the world.
Eva Moore (Mother of Liv + Evan): Loving and proud of her daughter's achievements and becoming increasinly concerned about her daughter's despondent attitude and tries to reach her.

The Saint: The Man Who Liked Lions (5.8, ITC, 1966)
"As an enemy, Mr. Templar, I trust you'll prove an exciting opponent."
"I generally do."
#the saint#the man who liked lions#1966#itc#leslie charteris#harry w. junkin#douglas enefer#jeremy summers#roger moore#peter wyngarde#suzanne lloyd#michael wynne#jeremy young#michael forrest#ed bishop#peter elliott#nike arrighi#robert russell#steven scott#phyllis montefiore#we open on Simon at the colosseum musing on the gladiators of old‚ in a cold open that's disconcertingly similar to that of 1.2 The Latin#Touch; and sure enough‚ Simon has a comic taxi driver assistant‚ only sadly it isn't old friend Marco (Warren Mitchell presumably less#easily booked now that Alf Garnett was a running success). we do get Ed Bishop tho! alas he doesn't make it through the titles.. Suzanne#Lloyd makes her 4th Saint appearance in an impressively expensive looking episode that is nevertheless slightly unhinged#i do feel like‚ after a few fairly standard adventures‚ this fifth series has just rocketed into madness now; first Nessie‚ now a Roman#emperor wannabe (a delightfully OTT Peter Wyngarde‚ who rather improbably complains about the effeminate men of today.. ahem.. and has a#scene where he's massaged by a very muscular and mostly nude man.. someone on the production team was doing him favours..)#the set dressing and costuming for the roman party finále is all very impressive and surely left overs from another production (altho the#series certainly wasn't a cheap one to produce). i had wondered if they were leftovers from Cleopatra‚ which had originally shot in England#before relocating‚ but that would have been Pinewood not Elstree. regardless this is a handsome if silly episode

Republicans on the move
There’s a lot going on right now so I may ramble. First up, Dan Bishop is running for attorney general. It’s no surprise and I’ve written about it before. Bishop is an amoral man. He spread the Big Lie, voted to overturn the election, and would have followed Donald Trump down any treasonous road he took. He has no respect for the Constitution or democracy. He’s not somebody with whom to have a…

Today in Christian History
Tumblr media
Today is Friday, December 2nd, the 336th day of 2022. There are 29 days left in the year.
Today’s Highlight in History:
1381: Death of Jan Van Ruysbroek, “the Ecstatic Doctor,” so called because of his mysticism. He had written The Spiritual Espousals (1350), a commentary on Matthew 25:6: “Behold, the bridegroom comes,” which will influence contemporaries such as John Tauler and Gerard Groote, and later writers such as Thomas à Kempis.
1697: Dedication of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, designed by Christopher Wren. It replaces a medieval cathedral that had burned in the Great Fire of 1666. The Right Reverend Henry Compton, Bishop of London, preaches the dedication sermon based on Psalm 122: “I was glad when they said unto me: Let us go into the house of the Lord.”
1751: A Consistory of the Dutch Reformed Church writes with frustration from Colombo, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), complaining that Roman Catholicism has greatly increased, despite severe penalties meted out by Dutch governors.
1873: After years of struggle, Frances Havergal, Christian singer, sees the importance of complete Christian surrender “as a flash of electric light,” and makes it.
1906: The first of Paulo Mwamribwa’s pupils are baptized in Digoland, Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika). He had founded the first indigenous Protestant mission school in the Gombero area.
1910: Death in Richmond, Virginia, of Bishop Channing Moore Williams, who had served as an Episcopal missionary in the Far East, founding a divinity school in Japan.
1916: The Suwa Maru docks at Kobe carrying missionary Irene “Sensei” Webster-Smith, who will later rescue Geisha children and convert Japanese war criminals.
1947: Death of Alexis Kabaliuk, Apostle of Carpatho-Russia, who had played a major role in reviving the Orthodox Church in Transcarpathia (a region on the western edge of the Ukraine) in the early twentieth century despite persecution by Austrian-Hungarian authorities.
1948: Romania’s Official Gazette #281 publishes a decree transferring Uniate church property to the Romanian State without compensation.
1994: Death of Sir James Norman Dalrymple Anderson, a legal scholar and missionary to Islamic regions.

IT BEGAN WITH STOLEN TOILET ROLLS
AND ENDED EATING SOGGY CORNFLAKES ON A WORN-OUT SOFA Introduction: This essay will critically reflect on the lived experience of poverty by the researcher (autoethnographically) and how that enabled a meeting of heart in the missional life she now lives outside of poverty. It is only through this lived experience that the researcher was compelled to go outside the structures of the…

Aliens are a controversial bunch, whether genocidal xenophobes or lovable harbingers of technology and galaxy-based cooperation. Regardless of what flavour you take your politics, it would probably be a good idea to check up on them. In 1998, a family film poked fun at the fictional investigators tasked with keeping the status quo, as the alien guests of the new millennium were met by the Men in…

[Giustizia][Franco Buffoni]

The Saint: The Saint Bids Diamonds (4.7, ITC, 1965)
"Ah, Felson! Good morning. You slept late."
"Do you mind?"
"Not in the least. Little touchy this morning, aren't we?"
"Just naturally unpleasant."
#the saint#the saint bids diamonds#1965#itc#leslie charteris#pat lasky#jesse lasky jr.#roger moore#eunice gayson#george murcell#jean st. clair#gerard heinz#peter illing#ed bishop#neville becker#laurence herder#ricardo montez#leslie norman#another of the comparatively rare full novel adaptations (and presumably the last; once the series hit colour‚ it became more dependent on#original scripts and relied much less on Charteris' work). Thieve's Picnic was first published in 1937 but had been given the title used by#this episode as early as the late 40s. i haven't read it as far as i can recall‚ but looking it up this appears to have been a relatively#faithful version‚ including most of the major plot beats. not entirely sure where the minor astrology subplot comes from and I'm even#less certain why Simon should be quite so sceptical (this is the man who experienced voodoo for real back in 3.21)#ed bishop spends almost the entire episode tied up in a cellar‚ so that Simon can impersonate him which can only mean... yep it's time for#another look at Roger Moore's American accents! he goes subtler here than he has in other eps so it's basically ok‚ tho it does wander in#one or two scenes. a fairly late role for Heinz (a great actor who never quite broke through like he deserved to) and a wonderfully#grotesque turn from the ever excellent Murcell‚ but this doesn't have the urgency or high stakes that the other novel adaptations have#shown. also Simon has been hired by a museum to get back some jewels? Simon Templar‚ viewed by most of the world as an infamous#jewel thief? quite a plan. this was the only Saint script from husband and wife team Pat and Jesse Lasky but both worked on#subsequent ITC productions including Danger Man and The Protectors.
