Waistcoat #2: DONE.
Tumblr media
Tomorrow I'll begin cutting out the pieces for coat #2.
I should probably just cut out all the pieces I need for the breeches too rather than just doing it after constructing another piece.
Tracing and cutting is literally the worst part. I just want to start assembling. 馃槧

And we are DONE.
We survived.
We made it.

Cuffs are attached!
Still to do:
Trace, cut, and assemble collars
Attach collars
Trim and hem bottom of both jackets.
Honestly the less said about the pants the better, but we'll get there!

So I know I haven't posted progress pics in awhile, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working on things, just nothing interesting to photograph.
These are the front lace appliques for the front of the jackets. I tacked them down on the machine with a zig zag stitch, but ultimately stitched around each of them by hand with a blanket stitch.
Takes for fucking ever, but it's a lot more precise than the constant starting, stopping and reshifting with the machine.
Would probably be a little faster with an embroidery hoop, but I don't have one on hand.
I am still very much on schedule and hope to stitch the first pair of breeches together to try on today. 馃帀

So I think I broke my sewing machine.
I tried lowering the feed dogs (the little grippy bits that move the fabric along) to get my fabric in place without snagging it and the lever successfully lowered the feed tags, but won't move them back in place.
I took it apart but other than cleaning out some lint, I don't even understand how the lever was working at all in the first place. There doesn't seem to be anything for it to catch on? And it's just plastic? It doesn't look like anything cracked off either?
I've tried googling, but my machine is a 25+ year old Kenmore model from Sears that I inherited from my late grandmother, so... no real in depth stuff to be found.
So I guess I'm going to spend my evening cutting out lining fabric and the pieces for the pants.
Tomorrow, I'll run to Joann's to see if they have either of the machines I'm interested in and grab one since they appear to be on sale.
If not, I'm going to have to grab one from amazon.

Waistcoat 1 of 2: DONE.
Might need to take a tide pen to the little colored pencil markings for the buttonholes though. 馃槵
I think I have gotten the hang of this now, pretty sure I could bang out another in 3 days time.

I sewed one cuff upside down, so gotta fix that tomorrow, but buttonholes and buttons are all that's left for Lucius's undershirt!

Undershirt is coming along.
Unlike the first one I finished, this one is made of muslin rather than linen. Linen would have been better, but I don't have enough left for another shirt and muslin or broadcloth are decent period appropriate options.
Tomorrow sleeves and cuffs go on, then hemming. Sunday will be buttonholes and some buttons. I'm waiting on the rest to arrive in the mail.
Probably going to wash it once its finished to see if some of my markings will wash off. 馃槵

I may not yet have finished Stede's demon purple trousers (close I swear!), but I have finished folding all my pocket squares, so if you're going to anime milwaukee this weekend find me for your emotional turmoil.
