All of Kitty’s life has revolved around being perfect. Her father was an extremely successful entrepreneur, and her mother was your typical trophy wife, so Kitty was expected to be the immaculate trophy daughter. She largely took it in her stride, and her mixture of familial wealth, inherited ruthlessness, and the most devastatingly beautiful face her small town had ever seen was the perfect concoction to be mutually adored and feared throughout her adolescence.

(Sexual assault TW) When Kitty was eleven years old, she was assaulted at a sleepover by her friend’s older brother. Being generally maladapted to deal with her own emotions, as well as wrestling with a lifetime of religious shame, Kitty never breathed a word of it to anyone, choosing instead to pretend that it hadn’t happened and enacting her indirect revenge on her abuser’s sister. She tells herself that it’s fine and that she’s moved on, but the truth is that she’s never been further than a chaste makeout session, and it’s not because of the cross she wears around her neck as armour.

Despite this, Kitty has a reputation, and not one that most people would be happy with. It doesn’t bother her though, and she’s never found herself in a situation feeling pressured to engage in any activities she wasn’t enthusiastic about- not that any guy who valued his face remaining intact would ever try to pressure her. She’s never attempted actual dating; her romantic involvements have been sporadic and commitment-free, despite some genuinely trying otherwise. Any desire for a relationship is spurred on by her image than any genuine feelings.

The need to be perfect still permeates Kitty’s entire existence- at least, that is, the need to appear perfect. She wakes up at 5 am every morning to complete her 18-step skincare, haircare, and makeup routine as well as squeeze in an hour at the gym before class. Her flawless GPA has never wavered for a moment, despite a manicured Instagram feed that shows her at every party within a 20 mile radius of Lima, occasionally also taking private flights to LA and New York for more exclusive events. Kitty’s life is the stuff of legends, but you’d be hard-pressed to hear her describe herself as ‘happy’.

Bentley Lynn is the youngest Lynn child and he’s just a ball of excitement – you hardly see him being quiet and he’s one of those kids who’s always talking or is always excited about something. However, this boy is as clumsy as they come – it’s not unusual to see him fall down to the floor while he’s just walking and he’s pretty much always covered in bruises.

·         Much for Kitty’s demise, her second child wasn’t a girl and instead she popped out Bentley. It was no secret that Kitty wanted a girl, hopefully to continue her legacy in the Cheerios at McKinley. In Bentley’s first years, Kitty truly pondered that he should become a male Cheerio – after all, there was nothing wrong with being a male Cheerio. However, the more Bentley grew up, the less Kitty felt like he would actually be a good cheerleader. The boy was hyperactive and he had a lot of energy, but sadly, he was clumsy – really clumsy. Kitty obviously figured this out when Bentley was only five years old and was out in the yard jumping in a trampoline and managed to fling himself out of it and break both his arm and leg. It wasn’t pretty.

·         However, unlike his brother, Bentley did end up being a great student in school. Not because he used to study a lot, but because things just made sense to him. Bentley wasn’t even sure how it was possible, but things just came to him and he always used to get good grades. Thanks to this, Kitty was always satisfied with Bentley’s grades, which was saying something – it was always hard pleasing her. Things were different with Ryder though, he always felt like his dad was more chill than his mom, but he would never admit to anyone that: you never know when Kitty could be listening.

·         Having the good grades made Bentley join the Brainiacs – it was a fun challenge and Bentley did like a good challenge. However, he felt like it wasn’t even enough for him –so he decided to join band, mostly because he had learned how to play the drums with his dad from a young age. He doesn’t make it a big deal being part of the band, but he usually just avoids the Glee Club kids – even they are too loud for Bentley and that’s saying something. Other than that, Bentley decided that hockey would be a good sport for him to try out and even if most of the times he’s falling to the floor, he still tries his best to win the games, but he just really gets more bruises each game he plays.

·         Bentley’s relationship with his brother has always been rocky – he doesn’t hate Benji, of course he couldn’t hate his brother. But ever since they were young, Bentley had always hoped to be close to him but instead got pushed away, even if he tried to get close sometimes. However, that seems to be changing…

From the moment Benji was born, his life was set in stone. His mother made sure to instill a great sense of worth within her son, whereas his father made sure that he was able to see the good, lighthearted side of the world. It just so happened that the Ryder side of Benji’s personality was the obvious shining star.

School was something that never came easy for the Lynn child. He was constantly struggling to meet the deadlines that were put in place for his academic schedule, but he had no one to blame other than himself. In the beginning, Benji tried to sneak his way into pulling his father’s heartstrings by coercing him into possibly believing that he, too, had dyslexia, but in reality, he was a lazy human being. All Benji wanted to do was play video games over finishing homework assignments, and stay later at soccer practice to ensure he would never let his teammates down. He just ended up letting his parents down instead.

The day that Benji had gotten word he wasn’t going to be graduating high school after his senior year was easily one of the worst days of his life. If he closes his eyes and focuses hard enough, he can still hear the ringing of his mother’s screams in his direction whenever the letter was opened in the Lynn household. Now, he is trying as best as he can to do better.

Now that updates are out of the way, I have a couple brief housekeeping announcements! Players, please be sure to like this post when you’ve read it.

This post is under a readmore due to extremely vague references to potentially triggering subject matter, so please tread carefully, and decide for yourself if you’re in a state to read it. Thank you!

First and foremost: On The Subject Of Ryder Lynn. Ryder is obviously a current, active, extremely well-played character in this group, and I have absolutely no intention of changing that part. AJ & I are in the middle of discussing what’s to be done about his FC; for now, I’ve updated anywhere his face appears on the main (I think?) to be faceless for now. Since this is such a sensitive subject, and his player’s comfort and the comfort of all current players comes first, I appreciate everyone’s patience while we sort out the ramifications of this godawful news. Until AJ & I have reached a decision, Ryder’s faceclaim is currently set on hold, as it will definitely not continue to be his previous portrayer, whose name I don’t even want to type out. For those not currently in the game, this is the only post I’ll make on the subject, up until such a time another faceclaim is decided, or more information comes to light.

Secondly, our holiday hold of activity checks is almost over! As I said in our Discord announcements, from last Wednesday through tomorrow, activity checks have been paused. That means that regular activity checks will resume Tuesday, December 3rd, so please make sure you have either replied or posted a starter or self-para by the end of Tuesday to avoid an activity check. I know things are busy this time of year, and this game is lax on purpose, but just please remember that this game we all love so much (and we do all love it so much) is only active and alive when we are.

Lastly, especially as we’re resuming regular activity, please remember to interact with everyone (all 20-something of us) in the game in some way or another. Y’all have been so amazing about it, and we’re the syfam, and it can be a lot, but I’d hate for anyone to even start to feel the least bit excluded. As regular activity picks up, old threads may be dropped due to being out of date or lack of muse - if that’s the case, let your partner know, or ask if there’s something else you can do instead! 09. HEADCANONS

Ryder always had trouble in school, he’d study for hours on end and still end up with B’s as his absolute highest, it was only after confiding in a friend in third grade that he had trouble reading and that friend told a teacher did he see a specialist and find out he has dyslexia. Which was a fact he didn’t disclose to many for a while until he got more comfortable with it. Though it still is a challenge for him sometimes and he doesn’t like to talk about it often.

Another challenge for Ryder is trusting people. Girls specifically. When he was eleven years old, his parents were out of town and he had a babysitter who walked in on him in the shower. After she went home and his parents came back, he never told anyone about it, but he does think it did something to him and caused his trust issues.

He got his Serpent tattoo and was officially a Serpent when he was 16, and he’s enjoyed it for the most part. They aren’t as crazy as the Ghoulies or anything and he’s very loyal to them. If anyone was to learn something about him, it’s likely to be one of his fellow snakes before anyone else.

Ryder went to high school on the Northside, it had better programs for dyslexic kids than on the Southside and his parents wanted him to get through school the best he can, and it went really well. He joined Glee, made some friends, almost thought he was going to get into college, but the last part didn’t happen. His grades were better since he was getting help with his dyslexia, but not good enough to get into any colleges.

weekly tasks & events.

this week was invitationals and the glee club was tasks with coming up with a set-list for their gala that took place on saturday. unfortunately, as per-usual, mr. schuester 'knows best' and not only waited until the last moment to solidify the set list but he also didn't listen to anyone's opinions. the new directions performed okay at best, and the rest of the teams functioned as well-oiled machines !!

perhaps the lackluster performance at invitationals had something to do with the fact that the glee club is currently experiencing a shift within it's ranks with mason mccarthy leaving - and others soon to follow?

our seventh weekly task & glee club assignment was posted, we had a free week !! despite this, we still had active participation with posting edits and catching up on the dash. as always you can find all of the task fills for this week on the inspiration blog & on the discord server in the appropriate channels !!

jake puckerman: marley’s ex boyfriend from her sophomore year of high school seemed like her actual dream guy. no one made her laugh harder, no one made her heart feel quite as warm, but when he began to pressure her into doing more physically than what she was comfortable with, things became incredibly tense. he eventually ended up cheating on her and breaking her trust, and that was the end of the relationship. ever since then, when she sees him around back at home, she makes a herculean effort not to even look in his direction. kitty wilde: marley and kitty were at each other’s throats when they first met, kitty constantly calling her names and making her feel less-than. however, as kitty’s frozen heart softened over the year they spent together in glee club, the two became close to being friends. if we have a kitty i’d love to explore them actually getting to become better friends or maybe develop a way for them to have become better friends already. unique adams: her sister from another mister, marley can’t imagine loving another person as much as she loves unique. this is her ride or die. she would go down fighting for her, and to be honest, she almost did years ago when she tried to take the fall for her catfishing nonsense with ryder lynn.

Jack Lynn and Marisol Torres had only been casually dating for four months before Marisol discovered she was pregnant. Jack begged her to consider having the baby. Although she agreed, it was very clear from the beginning that this baby was something she was only following through on for Jack. When the baby finally came, regardless of sex, Jack begged for the baby to be named after his father who recently passed: Ryder. Marisol complied and followed suit by dedicating the baby’s middle name to her older sister who stayed in Colombia: Anaís. Unfortunately, the middle name Marisol chose lasted longer than her presence in Ryder’s life. Marisol walked out on Jack and Ryder when she was only 11 months old, leaving Jack to raise a baby girl on his own, and leaving Ryder without any real knowledge about her maternal family. Unsure of his ability to be a single father, Jack moved from Queens to Brooklyn with Ryder to live with his older brother, Michael, and his partner, Daniel. Michael owned a building where he ran a bar downstairs and rented four apartments upstairs (aside from his own). Putting music somewhat off to the side, Jack began working in his brother’s bar and the two Lynn men worked together to raise Ryder.

Although Ryder was a bright kid, it became obvious that something was getting in her way in high school. After some testing done by her school psychologist and insisted on by her JROTC coordinator, Ryder was diagnosed with ADHD. While she never really saw herself going to college, her performance in athletics and JROTC made her a perfect applicant for the United States Military Academy in West Point. Ryder got into the college and focused on Communications and graduated with her bachelor’s degree by the time she was 21 in time for her first tour.

When it came time for Ryder to sign her new contract, she opted out and found herself back in New York. Her service and everything she had seen had shown her that she wanted to be a writer. Ryder began working as novelist/freelance New Yorker journalist Elliot Gilmore’s personal assistant, which has been a less than peaceful job. Her boss is a notorious asshole but working under him and getting his critiques on some of her writing has helped Ryder hone her skill. Of course, Ryder cushions her income by working part-time at ACup as a barista and as a weekend bartender for her uncle’s gay bar, Wunderland.

As for her love life, Ryder hasn’t had the most exciting history. Alternating between crushes on Kitty and Marley, an awkward incident with Unique, and the occasional hookup, Ryder hasn’t ever been in a serious relationship. She plays off the lack of romantic connections in her past as something that has occurred intentionally. Truth be told, Ryder doesn’t really like talking about her love life, or lack of, with anyone, which likely stems back to losing her virginity at age 12 to her 17-year-old Math tutor and the subsequent responses she got from the few jealous peers she told.

Regarding her life philosophy, Ryder tries her best to try. Unfortunately, her curiosity and impulsivity has gotten her into some sticky situations. Overall, however, Ryder has a natural drive to do what is right, but the “right” thing to do isn’t always clear to her. Her strong desire to never hurt anyone has also caused her to not act when action should be taken. At the end of the day, Ryder enjoys being altruistic and doing what she can to be helpful. She hates being forced to stay still and is quick to get antsy.

Ryder has always felt trapped in his family’s shadow. His parents both had respectable jobs and a lot of expectations for little Ryder from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While he loves both of his parents, he always knew that he had to be just as successful as they were one day. The only trouble was his grades. For years and years Ryder would struggle with the most basic things, reading, writing and comprehension.

He braved his way through school but in his Sophomore year of high school, a teacher noticed his struggle and brought in a specialist. They learnt that Ryder was dyslexic and started to put support plans in place to help him progress. This helped him out a lot, but he still felt trapped to a profession he knew he could never do. He could never see himself as a doctor or a lawyer. He was lost and didn’t know what to do with himself.

As senior year approached, he still had no career plans. He knew he loved playing football and he was good at it, but he hadn’t been recruited by any scouts. He enjoyed performing but he knew there was no way he could be on Broadway or a major film.

When he graduated, his parents started to pressure him to get a job and to make something of himself. Go to college. Get a career. He managed to get a job at a local coffee shop and worked there for a year.

But as the year went on, things only seemed to get worse. Ryder was seeing one of his colleagues of the coffee shop, Cheryl. The two got along really well and he thought about asking her out. He had a plan on how to do it but then, something went wrong.

They both went to a party and got very drunk, they talked, ended up kissing and he woke up in her bed. He didn’t remember how he got there, and he didn’t remember doing anything with her. When he woke up, she informed him that they had sex. He had passed out before even taking his pants off and she had just continued. He felt horrified and left immediately, not contacting her again.

Ryder gathered as much money together as he could, packed a bag and got on the first plane he could. It brought him to Seattle, Washington. He had no where to live and no job but he needed a new start.

He kept in close contact with his family but every time they had asked why he had suddenly moved away, he couldn’t tell them the whole truth. Ryder confided a lot in his sibling about why he had left, mainly the pressure he had felt from his parents.

When he found out his sister had been diagnosed with alcohol poisoning, he moved back once again. He got back on a place and uprooted his life to be at her side. It broke his heart watching his little sister go to Rehab, but he believed in her. He would never tell her this, but he wanted to beat the shit out of her ex for getting her in this mess.

Learning after her recovery she would be going on tour with Cordella, Ryder knew he had to try and keep a close eye on her. He filled out a form, (with the help of his mom) and applied for a tech crew position. Luckily, with the connection of his sister, Due Hesitation accepted him on their team as a stage crew member, mainly working with setting up the equipment and monitoring the sound levels.

He was delighted to actually have a job that sounded cool for once! Plus, he knew his dyslexia wouldn’t handicap him in this position. Ryder packed a bag and was on his way to the tour, he knew that things could only get better.

RYDER LYNN is a 25-YEAR-OLD resident of Dent, South Carolina. He is currently the OWNER AND OPERATOR OF LYNN GENERAL. He is based on ALEX WHEATLEY from SAFE HAVEN and has the endgame of KYDER.

THE STORY SO FAR.

The path of the Lynn family was paved with good intentions. From coming to the town in order to start the only general store in the county to pushing their son to be the star of the city -- it was all based on the best of intentions, but the results were much different. Ryder was never one to falter under the pressure, but he was never one to live in it. The dream of him owning the store after his parents was never him, the dream of being the quarterback was never him, the dream of marrying Quinn Fabray and being happily ever after in Dent was never him. Knowing what was him was the problem, and was the only consistent question in his mind throughout his youth. It wasn’t until he was sixteen that he saw her and realized the answer -- Madison McCarthy.

On a Tuesday after Madison’s eighteenth birthday, Ryder and his new wife left the Dent court house hand-in-hand. The clerk had called his parents moments after the deal was done, but any efforts to get the two to undo their deed proved moot. After days of fighting and resistance from Ryder’s family, a compromise was made. Ryder would take over the business and his family would accept Madison as his wife -- a  deal too easy to make. To Ryder, having his wife and beginning his family was his true purpose. A few years later, they had their daughter, Lexie. A year and a half after they introduced her into the world, Dent said goodbye to Madison after a tragic accident. Just like that, Ryder was lost again.

Ryder and Lexie, now a bright-eyed five year old girl, are the sole workers of Lynn’s General. His parents had left to Charleston to enjoy their retirement, leaving their son and granddaughter to feel some relief of their loosened grip. Even then, Ryder can fully admit that he is flying blind in regards to raising a daughter. Still shackled by the grief of his wife, the townspeople use softer gloves when making their purchases at Lynn’s. Ryder still lives in the same home that he shared with his wife, her things still packed away in the drawers.

NOTABLE CONNECTIONS.

QUINN FABRAY. Being the children of two of the most established families in Dent bonded two unlikely friends more than most would’ve expected. With Quinn being the daughter of the long-time mayor and Lynn’s family owning the stable store in town, all eyes were on them in their youth. Quinn as a cheerleader and Ryder as the quarterback didn’t help with the rumors that the two families were pushing their children together romantically. It was a frustration that the two of them could only understand, giving each of them a place to vent. Quinn even helped Ryder admit his feelings for Madison and make the first move, a push that Ryder was always thankful for. Ryder even accepted the task of being Quinn’s alibi for the last summer of their senior year, despite never being told where Quinn really was. Honestly, he respected her enough not to ask.

MARLEY ROSE.  The two were all but strangers in high school. Poor girl from the outskirts of town and the football star – the only thing they each knew was their names. Following Madison and Emmett’s deaths, the two finally had a commonality in their grief to relate to each other over. It was almost sad that they don’t have much else to share sad looks over, until Lexie turned five and could finally attend kindergarten. With Marley as her teacher, the two were able to become close and Ryder finally found a little help with Lexie. In emergency situations, Marley always heads to the Rose’s property first for help with Lexie. It’s become harder now that Marley is needing to help her mother, but they still have momentary conversations to check in with each other.

KITTY WILDE. In a town with one general store, avoiding the manager is all but impossible. With Kitty stocking up on all the basics in her new home, Ryder Lynn turned out to be more of a nuisance than anything else. A constant flow of questions and good intentions, nothing spells more of a problem for Kitty than a genuine interest in her original roots. As much as sneaking through the isles gives her a few moments of stealth, Ryder’s daughter always finds a way to say hello and reel her into a short conversation. By that point, any attempt to avoid the pleasantries becomes futile. Even if he sees how much she’s hiding, there’s something that makes him wonder if there’s something deeper than the new girl with a chip on her shoulder.
