𝑺𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚: 𝑰 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒚 𝑺𝑷 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒑𝒂𝒅-𝒆𝒔𝒒𝒖𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚
Tumblr media
First and foremost, I would like to apologise for my inactivity ;w; I've been so focused on school, it was HECTIC and boy do I have a lot of success stories, this being one of them. So start of the school year, I wasn't planning on manifesting a boyfriend. I just wanted good grades, beauty and stuff. Long yapping session ahead!!
I was friends with this guy. Our whole friendship started because I was bored and wanted to play cupid (He liked another girl). So I was talking with him a lot, I was his right-hand woman. But this guy, he's not fond of making first moves but the girl isn't either. Long story short, he got rejected they didn't end up together. Let's call my SP "Coco" for good measure. You thought that was the end of it and we just remained friends? Wrong, I started developing feelings for him and womp womp (I actually thought he was physically attractive when I first saw him but backed off when I saw he liked another girl because I wasn't that attached yet). An even funnier story, we're in a four-person friend group. (2 boys and 2 girls), the other two are a couple. So our friend-group was more like a double date if we did end up together. Since my 18th birthday party was coming up, I had to pick a partner for the cotilion. And I picked him (He was convinced) and I even proposed a solo. So while we were practicing, we had lots of moments and I'm pretty clumsy, you can pretty much imagine that. There came our field trip. And it was mostly water sports. After that, we were all given free time to play in the pool for about two hours. I began carrying people randomly and they started doing the same to me. I actually carried Coco too and of course he carried me too. Around dismissal, I switched places with the other guy in our friend group and sat next to him. Average romance anime cliche moment, I fell asleep on his shoulder. To fast forward through, I confessed to him but he gave me a "You deserve better, I love you as a friend" but not a definite no. The rejection is implied but what does our LOA Barbie girlie do? We persist. That time wasn't the best, I was more than awkward around him but all I thought was, "This is for the plot" over and over again.
Like a Wattpad love story, it started picking up on the day of my 18th birthday, when we sang Photograph. Not relevant? It played our part in 18 Roses (In Philippine culture, it is customary for a girl to dance with 18 bachelors to signify her coming of age). And of course, I just had to experience all the cliche moments like him holding an umbrella over me, carrying my bag, going to get ice cream, walking somewhere and exchanging longing glances when the other wasn't looking and it all came down to a pool party we had when the school year ended. I got drunk (My dumbass thought the punch was orange juice and filled my cup all the way through) and I was just mostly chilling by the jacuzzi because of it. Coco over here, if we weren't hogging the karaoke machine, we were just chilling in the jacuzzi by ourselves (And the annoying pick-me girl of the class occasionally) and when I got too drunk, apparently I asked if I could hug him and for the last 2 hours or so, I was just hugging him. It was weird because Coco would usually join water sports going on in the other pool but he decided to just chill with me.
Before we got together, just like how I would write a wattpad fanfiction, there was the mandatory angst misunderstanding. The confession was really something. Sparks Fly by Taylor Swift was playing in the background and we became an official couple at exactly 12 midnight. Now, we're in a happy and loving relationship! Honestly, I was scared of what he'd be like in a relationship (Cuz I thought he wouldn't give me what I needed, E.G. princess treatment) but since I persisted and said to myself that what I wanted would always be given to me, I'm proud to say I'm dating a guy who practically worships the ground I walk on, not afraid to show his affection and respectful. I could go on and on about how good my relationship is how he treats me so well but I'd save you all the sappy stuff.

5. More than 1,000 trafficking victims rescued in separate operations in Southeast Asia
More than 1,000 trafficking victims were rescued in separate operations in Southeast Asia over the last week, officials in Indonesia and the Philippines said.
Indonesian officials said Sunday they freed 20 of their nationals who were trafficked to Myanmar as part of a cyber scam, amid an increase in human trafficking cases in Southeast Asia. Fake recruiters had offered the Indonesians high-paying jobs in Thailand but instead trafficked them to Myawaddy, about 567 kilometers (352 miles) south of Naypyidaw, the capital, to perform cyber scams for crypto websites or apps, said Judha Nugraha, an official in Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry.
6. A peanut allergy patch is making headway in trials
Tumblr media
An experimental “peanut patch” is showing some promise for toddlers who are highly allergic to peanuts. The patch, called Viaskin, was tested on children ages one to three for a late-stage trial, and the results show that the patch helped children whose bodies could not tolerate even a small piece of peanuts safely eat a few.
After one year, two-thirds of the children who used the patch and one-third of the placebo group met the trial’s primary endpoint. The participants with a less sensitive peanut allergy could safely tolerate the peanut protein equivalent of eating three or four peanuts.
7. Critically endangered lemur born at Calgary Zoo

Looking down into a pit and seeing only fat

Statement of Colton Drake, regarding his experience with the infamous cult La Graisse Bénie. Original statement given February 21st 2015. Audio recording by Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London.
Statement begins.
ARCHIVIST (STATEMENT)
Before I get started, if La Graisse Bénie find out about this I’ll deny every word. If the police or journalists come to me I’ll say you made the whole thing up. I’m not here to get anyone arrested, for people to know my story, or anything. I’m here because if I’m right, then the same might be happening here. Maybe you can stop the weird supernatural shit before it gets too far. If it’s all false then I guess we have nothing to worry about. I’d like to now the end result anyway, maybe it would give me some peace of mind. I don’t know if you deal with anything overseas but you might deal with how it’s spread, I guess. I don’t know. Guess I should get on with it, eh?
I was in the La Graisse Bénie cult from around seven to sixteen. I was actually born in Canterbury, dad’s family have been here for generations and my mum’s came over from the Philippines. It was three days before my birthday before we up and left for France, I threw such a tantrum over missing my party, my school, and my friends. Dad gave me the belt whilst mum packed our things. I mean, maybe I was being a brat but they didn’t warn us. My big brother Alder was fourteen and was pretty ecstatic about it, I didn’t get it at first but he was really, really into the sect’s bullshit. He was the youngest Elder they ever had. When he was seventeen he had my dad bending at the knee and kissing his feet. Alder always loved making him do stuff like that, he was such a creep. Sorry, I’m getting ahead of myself. So, our mum and dad up and moves us to France. We get a really nice big apartment, it had six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a playroom- man, we weren’t poor in England but we had a two bedroom house where me and Alder had bunk beds. Mum was a cleaner and dad worked at Waitrose. In hindsight the fact they had the money for the sudden move and such a nice place was pretty dodgy.
As a kid I didn’t see it that way, I mean I was pretty stoked at first to have my own bedroom and playroom, but the flat was so empty. And our new school was… weird. You know the Catacombs, right? Well, it turned out our flat building had a lift that went all the way down to a space inside them - the Chapel, we called it. That’s where all the bad cult shit happened, that’s where we were schooled, we were allowed to associate with any kids who didn’t live in the flat building. We were used as slaves, essentially. My brother fucking loved it, he loved tormenting everyone younger than him and his charm and beautiful face meant he got away with it. The cult shit was bad. But… I mean, I don’t think it was supernatural. So I guess you’ll find out about that if I’m ever on a crime documentary. The thing was we… Okay so, the thing we worshipped. It lived beneath us. It didn’t speak, the Elders just claimed they heard its requests through the walls. Alder he put me on feeding duty when I turned thirteen, well duty so I saw it. And he said that was an honour, he called it the Feeding Honour. And told me that no one else got that. Didn’t feel like a fucking honour.
So what I had to do, was go downstairs, really far downstairs. There was this dank room with a door like one to a garage. I was to open it and all the contents of it would go down into a pit. Now the pit… that was the worst. I tried not to look at first, but curiosity got the better of me. I climbed over the fence and looked down… and I can’t explain why it horrified me so much. But beneath me was a gigantic face.
It took a while to figure out that’s what it was. But there were bloated lips, lips that were each bigger than me as a skinny thirteen year old. Fat bloated cheeks that were only partially in view, a bloated forehead that hung over its eyes… It was just a disgusting, enormous pile of fat. And the whole into the pit? That was double the size of a jeep. Its head took up the entire fucking space. I stared at it for long enough that it began to grown, maybe it was looking at me but fat covered its eyes completely. It just began groaning, something that sounded vaguely like ‘food’. I opened the garage door, and I looked at all the meat, fish, and god knows what else - it stank so bad - be funnelled into his gaping maw. I ran upstairs. Ran so fast my chest ached and I couldn’t fucking breathe.
When I saw Alder he was delighted. He said he knew, that the blessed fat beneath the earth spoke to me. I threw up, I threw up my breakfast and lunch and all of the bile in my stomach. Of course, I got punished for that, for desecrating the temple. It was then I knew I had to leave. Because it wasn’t… No human could get that big. No person could survive like- anyway, this isn’t going to sound believable but- my job here, in London. I do maintenance for the tube, late at night and that noise I heard? It’s there. I heard it. I don’t know how or why but if you can do something you need to. See, people started disappearing from the temple. They’ll start vanishing here too.
ARCHIVIST
Statement ends.
Well, that was quite the story. Nothing like a good cult to bring up psychosis and hysteria. It’s sad really. I’ve no doubt this young man who has suffered greatly at the hands of a cult, so much so that his mind played tricks on him, maybe hid something horrendous. The Paris catacombs are especially known for these sorts of delusions and he would’ve spent a grave amount of time in there. Martin insisted on handling this one, seems that Mister Drake was quite chatty and they seem to be on very friendly terms. Of course Martin believes him, he always does… One point he did make, of course I will never admit that there may be some truth to this - especially not to him, is that noise in the tube that Mister Drake reported had been something that had been going on for a while. Several different people have told the police about a strange noise, and two different companies have been asked to investigate a problem with the train tracks or sewer system. They too heard it, a strange guttural sound. They put it down to an odd natural phenomena and well, that’s what they say about Leitners, isn’t it?
Recording ends.

A Whole New Chapter
Happy Birthday Max (and Ripley, Olaf, and Daisy)!
June 28th was Max’s 4th birthday (and all of his 8 siblings, though we only know Ripley, Olaf, and Daisy). He celebrated with a special birthday crown, and by devouring a HUGE liver and rice pupcake that Georgia made for him. He had trouble blowing out the candle though.
Tumblr media
One thing Max hasn’t acclimated well to are the storms, with their heavy rain, lightning, and thunder. He’s always been shy about loud noises, and here, even the rains get loud. I’ve described the intense lightning and thunder before, but just to remind you it’s LOUD! This is all made worse by the fact that we live outside most of the time, often hanging out in our upstairs open-air foyer; even if we’re indoors we almost always have the windows open. We've read that some dogs deal with loud noises better if they wear earmuffs so we experimented. Here’s Max’s first “boom boom” helmet:
Tumblr media
This seemed to help so we’ve since upgraded this to a commercial model that just slips over his ears. We’re not sure if it really muffles the noise or if it just distracts him having something wrapped around his head. He also seems to deal with thunder fairly well by retreating to a ‘sanctuary’, usually underneath my desk in the main room, or Georgia’s desk in our bedroom. We hope he gets used to it quickly – now that we’re in the rainy season we get a thunderstorm almost every afternoon. He’ll get plenty of practice at least!
And Happy 60th Birthday Noel!
Continuing to celebrate birthdays, last weekend we went to Manila to attend the birthday party of our dear friend Noel. Michelle had planned a fun 80’s themed (just my thing!) night, with DJ, dancing, and of course food and drink. We saw many friends there and – small world time – even met two of our neighbors from Kawayan Cove that we hadn’t met before. Here’s Noel with more than his share of lovely ladies.
Tumblr media
On the Road Again
One of Georgia’s friends, way back from her McDonald’s days in the early 80’s, has a vacation house on Lake Caliraya, which is just south of the biggest lake on Luzon, Laguna de Bay. The friend had offered for us to use it anytime we wanted. Although she wasn’t there, we took the drive and spent a couple nights at the lake.
The lake is manmade, its dam constructed in 1939 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for one of the first hydroelectric power projects in the Philippines. The dam was blown up by retreating American troops in 1942 to keep it from being useful to the Japanese, who quickly repaired it. The Japanese in turn destroyed the dam in 1945 when they retreated. It was rebuilt in 1953 by the Philippines National Power Corporation and since no one has blown it up since, it's still generating hydroelectric power. In addition to power, this large lake (about 3 x 8km/2 x 5mi, with a convoluted 157km/98 mi shoreline) provides many recreational opportunities and supposedly the best largemouth bass fishing in the Philippines (we tried but didn’t catch any…).
Even without catching anything we enjoyed our time on this very quiet and serene lake.
Tumblr media
The only downside of Lake Caliraya, for us anyway, was the journey. From Kawayan Cove it’s about 160km each way which shouldn’t be that bad, about 2 hours or so, right? It’s not that bad at all for the first 40km or so, where we have nice, uncrowded highways to Tagaytay/Lake Taal. Past that though, with the exception of less than 10km on the SLEX expressway, it’s a slog along crowded, narrow, surface streets, making in all a pretty stressful 5-hour drive. The last 20km or so, when the route takes you up into the mountains and to the lake, finally let me relax a bit on a twisty but uncrowded mountain road. Reaching the subdivision entrance we continued for a bit on a normal 2-lane road… which abruptly turns into a single lane composed of two narrow strips of concrete. In some places there were drop-offs to the sides of the strips so you had to be very careful to stay centered, and MOST places there was absolutely no room for two cars to pass. Not sure what we would’ve done but luckily we didn’t meet another car either going in or out.
Here's the 'road' as it goes by the lake house, one of the few wide spots where two cars could pass.
Tumblr media
Although the drive was somewhat stressful, it was a good chance to get to know our new car. Yes! I got my Fortuner! We had to wait about a month after we ordered it (waiting for that special Platinum White Mica Pearl paint), and took delivery the day before our trip. Having a brand-new car probably added to my stress, but overall it’s a joy to drive. The Innova, which is now Georgia's mom's car, served us well, and though it’s officially not a minivan it drives like one. The Fortuner (sharing the chassis and diesel engine with the Innova and the Hilux pickup) is much sportier to drive, especially on the twisty roads. Now we have a mini-SUV and a full-size SUV!
Tumblr media
It's a Jungle Out There
The other day our caretakers pointed out a snake that had roosted in a vine near our pool deck, in fact right above my favorite spot to sit and read. It turned out to be a reticulated python, common all over Southeast Asia. These are the longest snakes in the world – the longest one ever captured was 33 feet (9.9m)! One of our neighbors is quite fearful of snakes and warned us to get rid of it as it will kill and eat dogs and cats, cattle, carabao… and you! Well, maybe the big ones, but this guy (less than 3’ / 1m) would only strike fear into you if you were one of the frogs that used to hang out in that spot.
Tumblr media
While we’re talking reptiles, yesterday when I opened our pool umbrella I was surprised by this friendly looking tuko who had taken up residence inside. A large (this one was about 10" / 25cm) and colorful member of the gecko family, these creatures are plentiful here but are very shy and you rarely see them, only hearing their loud “tu-ko, tu-ko, tu-ko” calls in the morning and evening.
Tumblr media
And Back to the Friendly Skies
Tomorrow we’re starting our journey back to the states, for about a 5-week visit. Check on the house, visit friends and family, go to the dentist, that sort of stuff. Max will stay here with caretaker Vima, with whom he’s become very good friends. We’ll be coming back to Manila right before Danny, Ben and Lachlan arrive for a visit in late August, which we’re excitedly looking forward to!
So that wraps up this chapter. I’ll probably be back in September.
Until then, leaving you with a couple of nice sunsets. Take care everyone!

I Found Peace in Calauan, Laguna
Angela Palma 2023
Tumblr media
There are many places I have traveled so far in the Philippines ever since I became aware of them. For example, the Quezon province, specifically Nakar and Infanta, Pangasinan, Antipolo, Caloocan, Taguig, Makati, Manila, and Laguna. Out of all these beautiful cities, beaches, spots, views, etc., you may also wonder, Why Calauan Laguna?
Tumblr media
Our first visit and stay here was for our cousin's 7th birthday celebration way back on November 27, two years ago. It was summer, and they had just finished building their house there, so we were the first to stay. I remember our first summer here being full of excitement and happiness. I loved the close neighborhood, the generous people, the packed sari-sari stores, the overlooking mountains, resorts, lagoons, hot springs, and the fields. At my cousin's birthday party, we set up tents and hired clowns to entertain the kids that we invited from the neighborhood. It was quite a big children's party, but it was expected in our tradition to have big parties when we turn seven. It was a fun and memorable celebration for everyone. The next day,our family went to make a second celebration at a village named "The Promise," then into Camp Silva Natural Hot Spring.
Tumblr media
In July 2023, we decided to have yet another summer break in Laguna. I never thought that me and my family would need this short break especially me, because, being here for the second time, it was different. Coming back here helped me think clearly and solve all the puzzles that were trapped in my mind in Manila. What helped is the way life here is filled with such simplicity. It filled my longing for a simple, quiet, and peaceful life.
A walking-distance field near the house we're staying in has a hidden, built-in playground, a bicycle lane, a small stage, and wide grass floors. At noon, this is where everyone hangs out, including families, their little kids, and teenagers. There are also areas with fruit trees, plant farms, and farm animals such as cows and horses. On Laguna, this was my favorite spot. My siblings and cousins stop by in the mornings and at noon, and I usually bring my phone to take pictures along with my drawing book, journal, and a novel to read. Since it is quiet and windy out, I spent my time here writing my thoughts on paper or reading books that I brought with me on this trip. I also learned how to draw scenery, which is something I've always wanted to do. One of the most pure and memorable experiences I had here was when little kids approached me to compliment my drawings, even if they seemed simple or funny to me. They were so appreciative that they make me smile every time I see them and refer to me as "ate ganda na marunong mag drawing."
I also enjoyed my time indoors in our lovely home and helped with chores. I enjoyed accompanying my mom to the palengke to buy fruits and vegetables, and I enjoyed being assigned to prepare our daily meals. This place made me want to stay longer because it made me feel alive again. Unfortunately, we all have our own responsibilities back in Manila, but it has been an adventure to be here in such a magical place. Who knew that such a simple place would bring us closer and give us the peace we needed?.
Tumblr media
If I could write more about this journey, I would say that it healed me. My inner child and I are so grateful that my family decided on this trip because I can't think of a more beautiful way to spend a short summer vacation than this.

Week 2 Blog
This week I read pages 42-95 of the book “Monsoon Mansion” by Cinelle Barnes.
The most important sentence of this week can be found on page 54: “I said, ‘God, I need a new hairbrush. And I just want everyone to stop fighting. Amen.’” Her father tells her about a war happening in the Philippines, and how she and her brother are to band together against the common enemy. The author experiences a sudden change in her life, when her parents start constructing a place for weddings, birthdays, and parties. She is trapped upstairs for the duration of time where there are events hosted everyday. Then she is introduced to Elma, the daughter of Manang Biday (the helper), they build a friendship, since her brother is engulfed in his video games, ignoring everything. One day everything changed for her, a huge monsoon hit, flooding her family’s mansion. During those forty days everything was hectic, flooding from the main floor to the second floor, valuable items from the monsoon gone from the ocean, her family being torn apart from everything. Her mother frustrated from losing everything, her father in sorrow, her brother silent and distracted, the helpers adapting the best they can with their chores. While that is all happening she and Elma, were in a state of imagination to distract themselves from the situation.
I can’t help but feel sympathetic for Cinelle, she is going through a lot, the family issues, her house being flooded, and how aware she is with everything. She knows more than anyone in this book, and she’s only a child. I learned that her mother is like a child, throwing tantrums when she doesn’t get everything her way. Although her actions are childish, I feel bad for her, she lost everything, her money, children, and home. I also feel bad for her father, the mother is always lashing out at him, since their money is going down the drain from his job. There are stories from her father’s childhood that are entertaining, he grew up poor and has lots of tales to tell. Even for Paolo, he’s silent during the whole incident, and copes with video games. I’m glad Cinelle now has a friend with everything she is going through. I really like the book so far, very interesting and captivates my attention.

In the Philippines, a "fiesta" is a big party. It's like a celebration for a town, a birthday, or a religious holiday. People get together, eat yummy food, and have fun.
Before Borongan's fiesta, our instructor asked us to attend the ESSU NITE. I was so happy because it was a chance to get out of our boring boarding house and spend time with my friends. That night, I watched some of my friends perform on stage, especially Annalie's group. Afterward, we went to a fun place called the "peryahan." It was like a carnival with lots of tasty food, souvenirs, and exciting rides. I even rode the "octopus" ride, which helped me overcome my fear of heights. After that, we went to Baybay where there was a party, but it was late so we headed home.
I didn't know anyone in Sawang, so I didn't go there during the fiesta. But I had a great time with my friends at the ESSU NITE.

So Good
My life isn’t anything I wanted it to be
But that’s ok because it’s a better feeling than I could imagine. Queens was a good move for us. Leaving roommates behind, leaving the million and one places to party, I mean there’s still a vibe I miss. I go to Brooklyn for but I’m finally okay living out here and enjoying the suburbs. Which that is what Astoria feels like to me. And I still can do what I want.
Dance class, museums, volleyball. Visiting friends and making new ones. I honestly really love my regulars. They’re all cool. All at different places in life. They’re normal people with their normal problems and I could definitely relate. And most of the time we really vibe on music, good food, and good drinks.
Truth is part of me will think of my beautiful mother and be sad. Especially in September. Sad of all that could’ve been, sad for my family, But also with all that sadness I’m happy that she created this family. And showed me the world and took care of me. I’m so glad I got to know her at all. Things that people can’t tell you. Like her perfume, that she liked red lipstick, and red nail polish. She was a girls girl through and through and she could dance. She was loud and had so many friends. That she could draw and collected things from every place she went. and that she was amazing at giving gifts and made people feel really good. And the dish I miss most is breakfast. Her Spanish omelette.
I think about how my choices may have disappointed her. That I moved out at 18. That would’ve never happened if she was a live. And the possibility of how strict she was would’ve made me a different sad. Not the depression of losing my mother but the depression of possibly not having freedom. I like to think she would’ve been cool, you know idealistically. That she would’ve let me study acting, probably would’ve funded it and I might’ve split my time with Asia and New York. I mean when u got her permission you got everything with this woman. That’s the hard part though. Whatever she wanted she got. Just respect it.
I get why she left the Philippines. I love it there too but I stick out like a sore thumb. The culture is historic and there’s typhoons, and life isn’t always fair. However, it is incredibly beautiful and I can’t wait to show my fiancé what it’s like. Her birthday is this month. Libra. All I Wish is that she was around for my wedding.
But I hope she knows wherever she is that I found happiness for the most part. And life is so good. In all situations life loves to throw at ya.
also if you’re reading this I’ll be trying to stay away from social media. Just wana post and get away.

Once again, I found myself immersed in the world of digital art, breathing life into a beloved character. The subject of this new artwork is Sara Crewe, the heroine of "A Little Princess," a children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. But my inspiration for this piece comes from a particular adaptation that holds a special place in my heart—the 1985 anime "Princess Sarah", which is not only nostalgic for me but also for many others in my country, the Philippines. It’s such a well-known series here that a Filipino-casted live-action remake was made, further deepening its influence on our culture.
This piece shows Sara in her birthday gown, a look that has always stood out to me from both the novel and the anime. I wanted to capture her in that moment of elegance and youth when life still seemed so filled with possibilities before her world crumbled around her. The gown itself is a soft, pale pink, a colour that exudes warmth, innocence, and subtle sophistication—perfect for a young girl of privilege who hasn’t yet faced the challenges to come. The dress flows gracefully, its soft ruffles cascading in layers that look delicate yet regal.
Her gloves are a pristine white, extending just past her wrists in a style that adds a touch of refinement. I imagined how they would feel—smooth, soft, and cool to the touch, the kind of gloves a young lady would wear to a formal event like her own birthday party. On her head, she wears a simple pearl hairband. The pearls reflect the same sophistication as the rest of her ensemble, but they are not overdone. Sara has always been a character of quiet grace, and I wanted her appearance to reflect that.
When you look into her eyes—large, bright green eyes full of depth—you see more than just a pretty young girl. You see kindness, compassion, and an enduring optimism. That’s one of the most striking things about Sara Crewe. Despite all the hardships she faces throughout her story, she never loses her innate goodness. In many ways, this artwork is my tribute to those qualities in her that inspire people, even decades after the book was first written and after countless adaptations of the story have been made.
I didn’t want to create just any fan art; I wanted to embody who Sara Crewe is at her core. She’s kind, caring, and compassionate. Even when she is treated poorly, she remains generous and polite to everyone around her. She doesn't boast about her wealth, nor does she look down on anyone. Her humility is what makes her so endearing. Her intelligence also plays a significant role in her character. She reads extensively and speaks several languages, including French and Hindi. I kept this intellectual aspect in mind as I depicted her thoughtful, serene expression.
But it’s her imagination that truly sets Sara apart. Throughout the story, Sara makes up fairy tales to entertain her classmates at Miss Minchin's school. I could just imagine how her creative spirit would radiate through her posture and the soft smile on her lips. In this artwork, her smile is not broad; it’s delicate and gentle, the kind of smile that hints at stories hidden in her mind, stories she’s too humble to share without being asked. Her optimism is perhaps her most defining trait. No matter what happens to her, she never loses hope. Even in the darkest of times, Sara believes in the goodness of the world, and I tried to convey this unwavering positivity in her facial features and soft, pastel surroundings.
Of course, creating fan art like this requires a deep understanding of the character’s background. Born in India to Captain Ralph Crewe and his wife, Sara was showered with love and attention from her father, especially after her mother’s passing. Captain Crewe spared no expense when he sent his beloved daughter to Miss Minchin's seminary in London. The novel makes it clear how lavish Sara’s life was at the time—her room, extravagant furniture, a wardrobe full of beautiful dresses, a servant, a parrot, and even a pony.
That’s one of the most fascinating aspects of her character. Miss Minchin, the strict headmistress of the school, sees Sara’s wealth and assumes she’s a spoiled, selfish child. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Sara’s kindness and grace win over her classmates, and even those who are initially envious or indifferent towards her can’t help but be drawn in by her sincerity. Through this fan art, I wanted to show the world what Miss Minchin couldn’t see—Sara’s inner strength and beauty.
But, as those who are familiar with the story know, Sara’s life takes a devastating turn on her birthday. She receives the news that her father has passed away, and with him, her entire fortune is lost. In a matter of moments, Sara goes from being the wealthiest girl at Miss Minchin’s school to having nothing. Miss Minchin, showing her true nature, forces Sara to become a servant, banishing her to a cold, desolate attic room shared with Becky, another servant. The once-grand life Sara had known disappears in an instant. She is made to cook, clean, and endure daily cruelty from not only Miss Minchin but also other students like Lavinia, who are all too eager to see Sara suffer.
Despite all this, Sara never loses her grace. Even in rags, she continues to imagine herself as a princess at heart, a princess not because of wealth or status but because of how she treats others. It’s this enduring sense of dignity that I wanted to capture in my artwork. Sara in my fan art still wears the beautiful birthday gown, but her posture and expression convey a deep inner strength—a strength that will carry her through the dark times ahead. I wanted to capture the essence of Sara's resilience and grace.
One of the most poignant aspects of Sara’s story is how she refuses to let the cruelty of others change her. Even when she’s at her lowest point, when she’s cold, hungry, and exhausted from endless chores, she finds ways to be kind and compassionate. She shares her food with Becky when they’re both starving. She uses her vivid imagination to transport herself and others away from their miserable surroundings, telling stories that bring hope and light into the darkest corners of their lives.
For me, that’s what makes Sara such a powerful character. She doesn’t need material wealth to be a princess. Her royalty comes from her heart. That’s why I chose to depict her in this elegant gown, as a reminder that no matter what happens to her externally, she remains a princess internally. Eventually, Sara’s fortunes change once again. She is discovered by Mr. Tom Carrisford, her father’s friend who has been searching for her ever since her father’s death. He restores Sara to her former wealth and adopts her, giving her the happy ending she so richly deserves. But even when she regains her status as a princess, Sara remains humble, kind, and generous.
This artwork is my way of paying homage to that resilience and inner beauty. It’s not just a portrait of a girl in a pretty dress. It’s a reflection of who Sara Crewe is at her core—a girl who faces unimaginable hardship with grace and dignity, a girl who never loses hope, and a girl who remains a princess, not because of her wealth, but because of her character. She remains a princess because she believes in the power of kindness and love to overcome any obstacle and she knows that true beauty comes from within.
In conclusion, creating this fan art was more than just an artistic endeavour for me. It was a way to reconnect with a character who has long inspired me and countless others. Sara Crewe’s story is one of hope, kindness, and the enduring power of imagination. Through this piece, I wanted to capture not just her physical appearance but also the essence of who she is—a true princess, in every sense of the word. In doing so, I hope to convey the magic that Sara Crewe's character exudes on the page of the book.

Did viber recorded my convo? or the devil did?
I'll do a timeline:
That effing devil asked me something about Dina (my roommate) and Carlos (his roommate) He is feeling close. I don't like him. them. My alterego ate or maybe the baby don't like them. Understand? They were not raised poor.
Then he asked again if I have a phone. I'm not interested actually. I have an analogue. I just wanted a laptop for YM and movies. But he mentioned Viber, which is not yet in the Philippines then, (he knows because he came to Kwt, around 6 months before my batch) He even asked me that day to join him because they are going to the mall. He even waved like a puppy from the other bus.
I didn't join him, but I did take a phone because I learned that it was their mode of communication. Everyone even whatsapp. So, he is the first person that I asked about the app. I was so haphazard in checking. He sent so many food stickers.
January birthday celebrants prepared a party (I think they collected money from us too) I wanted to join. That's how we were raised in school. K? We were kinda like part-time actors. All performing arts after school. Yes, like Singapore's Private classes. The top students like Korea's cram school. I thought maybe because the pop student was a director's son. Yes, he is not the relative. Going back, when I asked him about the party, he didn't answer that was his style. I was a bit insecure at that time. He doesn't answer even those he hears me he was kinda like internalizing.
Then C and her minions attacked me. Real? She you? It wasn't necessary. Jim's dopple ganger was right. No expectation. I know my place. They made this epic. It wasn't necessary.
March, your anniv? She kind?
My friend's birthday.
I panicked, so I asked a friend. A late acceptance to his prior invitation. I don't want to talk to the girls. The bastard cried. I'm used to hanging out with friends. Why would he cry? I'm supposed to be the one crying on that day. I wanted to meet new friends. I think I knew then that the white lady from H&M was in their flat. That extortionist? That's what I know. And Dina also talks a lot about Carlos, his roommate. That's me. I needed friends.
I knew then that I was dealing with... If I am a robber, I was seeing pick pocketers. You know, scheming planners. Like these, that I am blubbering. building effing network. A network's name...
They just hit me hard. Obando after Jerry. They turned him. Yeah, they became Millionaire's children.
He is not real to me? Then what was his purpose for getting close to me? You know when gossip mongers whisper their cuss, they will gather around me. Then he'll say "apat dapat" (must be four) He, Melojane and Monatus. See, they ganged up on me. Threat? because I was surrounded with foreign friends. Sayang naman panlilibre at pagkocoat nila for a dinner sa hotel. Eliting the arabs? Elite e. Melojane was like: My husband brought me this for this KD. Yes, 3 idiots' mr. price tag. I know some real rich people would say I bought this BRAND for a cheaper price (but of course it was not really cheap). Then Arjun will say: We used to be rich. My father had a business. He a fortune teller? He is so fucking amazing? Fucking kind to everyone right? Haha! See, they like throwing parties. I just like parties. No bribery. No political advertisement. They look so effing rich. Monatus said his mother is a DOH secretary (he was a grocery bagger)
Me and Melojane was chosen as the trainer cum assistant. They had to go back to the stores. Look here. During our team building and send off party for them, he sat beside me. Didn't notice him until he asked (surrounded by everyone) "Did you love me?" How do relationship starts? I dunno? but maybe I should try. I think my quick thoughts was actually the possible impediments of my finances, like, if I can handle him if this is a kasubuan, like, not for fun. I still have responsibilities. I mean gf can be so I said "yes, maybe" (duh! how did your first relationship started? Love at first sight? He's not handsome, He's not intellectual and he is not good looking and not articulate) THEN HE CRIED LIKE A DRAMA ACTOR. WATERFALLS. saying "my girlfriend is coming" I said ok. For me, it was just a try. An answer to his question. When he said that then, it's invalid. Truth is, in my blog, I was thankful for the shady part. It didn't become a commitment. Wait for the effing bluntness. What actually confused me was after his drama, he acted like a victorious actor. They rode a taxi, I was left with Mina. We walked to our place. Then I realized, maybe he cried for me? That was another loss? So, I cried, while Mina was tracking our way in his GPS. Accidentally, my phone fell on the beach that night. Thankfully, I don't need to talk to him. He was my chatmate. I chat with others too. Even Don (not dawn) I was not interested. More cautious with them. Because I don't know their culture. What I didn't know was the desperate kababayan culture. We have mixed friends right? Gender? Come on, adult doctors that I know male and female mix too. I have group of friends that are very very mix. Pride. I was testing waters, we mixed during the training.
You will think, to see if you can handle the consequences. But it was just all good intentions. Fucking trust in humanity. I have broken relationship with my family. Rehab wasn't the norm, but we do argue, just a spur of emotions but we normally make up so yeah, when I'm kind, I'm weak. Kind people don't win. Devils won.
Anyway, I did cry. But I was really happy about the training. They know I love the brand. My phone was off for days. I even yahooed, It said I should open it, let it dry and bury it under my rice. (Devil's advocate, hey, I read it from a local pocketbook) I tested my phone during our lunch break at work. In less than a minute, it rung. He was calling. He never call. I think not in viber. He called. I was very happy then. It was nothing really. Honestly. Not necessary to avoid. The thick faced called. Laughing! Did he think that I closed my phone because of him. How many times did he try? Instant rung? Coincidence? Thick face right? I searched him on FB. I didn't see any picture of a girlfriend or a name in all his posts. His family? Fat. Dark. Shady. No right to be mean. Who like who? I am not Cherry. But I only have filipinos to rely on. I don't belong to christian church too. Not kidding. Not religious but, very student for me. You know, like me as a student and nurse. They do recollections every week. See, my lola was a community prayer leader. I always join her. She pinches me whenever I move my head or say "hipus" eventhough I am not talking to anyone. But we just pray the rosary. My tita brought us to a catholic group. There was a seminar for new joiners, me and my cousins make fun of what we do sometimes but we listen. Some acts are too dramatic but we've done it in school. The priest invited us to his seminary where my father used to study. I don't know how long. I'm not an atheist. We just attend mass after the orientation.
Then one time, Melojane invited me to visit everyone at avenues. we saw him with Carlos. He was too elated, fooling around. Not disciplined? It was so effing awkward. What I did instead is stand before Carlos who was doing embroidery at some baby blanket. I shut my ears. I was too shy. It was awkward. He was too happy. I thought, this is what I do at my lola's house. Maybe I didn't think of that, but that is what I normally do. I watch skilled people.
Fucking people who said I'm the bitch.

Our 3-day Intramurals
Day No. 1 - Wed, October 25, 2023
Today, was our first day of intramurals. Both teams, Golden Flames and Lightning Jams met at our school, I am in the team Lightning jams. Once all the members of both teams were there, we started a parade towards the place of ma'am Songcal, a place where we normally have our intramurals. On the way, both teams chanted what we practiced a few days ago, while also raising the props we made. It was super fun! Our school guard even came along with the parade! When we arrived, we started the program a few moments later. It started with the Lupang Hinirang, the Philippine national anthem, and then followed the lighting of the torch, by one of my groups leaders. After that, we said the Oath of Amateurism, in which only a few people said the oath properly, as others forgot what to say. Afterwards was a song performed by NxN, the song they performed was "Raining in Manila" by Lola Amour, many students sang and cheered along with the song! Following was the production number of the candidates of Mr. and Mrs. Intramurals. Once a candidate from our team was introduced, we would cheer as loud as we could! The candidates couldn't help but smile at the audience. Then was a song performed by Crimson, called "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus, again, many students cheered and sang along and some even waved their hands. Later was the dance of grades 1 & 2, and 3 & 4, their parents rushed to the front to watch and some also took videos, the dance was good and cheerful. Then was the raising of the banners, both team leaders had to tie their team banner on the wall and race to see whos first, Lighting Jams won this. Our team cheered so loud for our leaders, im sure they were really happy. Lastly were some more songs performed by NxN, Crimson, Infin8ty, and Seventh Symphony.
In the afternoon, those with sports like badminton, basketball, etc went to that place again, while those who didn't stayed i school. I stayed at school since im only in the game scrabble, so we played, and J, my friend ,won the match. It was a fun game and it made me learn a bit more about scrabble. Afterwards me and J, headed to the gr.8 room, and ended up playing some really fun games there! We almost didn't notice it was time to go home, because we were so focused on the game! Our day no.1 of intramurals was amazing! It was fun, and nothing went wrong!
Day No. 2 - Thu, October 26, 2023
Today, was of second day of intramurals. Again, those with sports went to the place of ma'am Songcal, while those who didn't stayed at school. Since some of us from Lightning Jams stayed, we helped our leader in making props, some pompoms. We need to make 15 pairs. While making our pompoms, there were times when we needed more crepe paper, double-sided tape, etc, so our leader went out to buy some more. Today was one of my classmates birthday, so during lunch break, his parents gave us some food, it really was good! Afterwards, one of my teachers told us that if we didn't have sports, or if we didn't win one of the games, that we could go home already, so the second day of our intramurals was short, but still, it was fun and we had a really great time!
Also, it turns out we had to go back to school before 12:30, but i didn't bring my phone, so i couldn't read the chat in our teams gc. J said they worked on props, and i feel bad i couldn't help, but theres always tommorow, right?
Day No. 3 - Fri, October 27, 2023
Today was the third, and also the last day of our intramurals. For me, today was the best day out of the three, alot of exciting and fun stuff happend. In the morning, we met at school and finished some of the props, like the pants that needed golden foil, and the confetti. The other team, Golden Flames, were practicing on the school grounds, so we took advantage of that opportunity and practiced on the place of ma'am Songcal, and went back to school for lunch, we went back there in the afternoon. Now in the afternoon, we waited for a few minutes for the program to start. It started of with the introduction of the candidates of Mr. and Mrs. Intramurals, since they had to do that again because last time, there were no judges, again we all cheered for the candidates from our team, also those from Golden Flames! After that, the Golden Flames performed their chant, and also their cheer dance. Both teams practiced them a few days ago, and also this morning. Their dance was amazing! It looked so good with all their props! Everybody cheered for them. Afterwards, it was our turn to dance and chant, we were all excited, but also nervous at the same time. After our dance, some people cheered and we were all proud of our selves, since we tried our best. Then, those candidates began their sports demonstration. Their outfits were great, and also their demonstration! Next, one of our teachers chose people to give their experience of this years intramurals, some students ran to the back just to escape being chose! I think she only chose about 8 students, including former Mr. and Mrs. Intramurals. Lastly was the awarding. Mostly members of our team won some of the Mr. and Mrs. Intramurals awards, like best in sports demonstration, etc. Following was the awards for the winners of the sports, and winners of the board games chess and scrabble. Then she gave an award to the team with better sportsmanship, best cheer dance, etc. And finally, she announced the overall champion, of the Intramurals 2023. After all that practice, and the 3-days of intramurals, we won! Everybody from Lightning Jams jumped around and cheered so loud i could feel my eardrums pop! All that hands up was definetly worth it, and in the end, both teams did amazing, and im sure we all did our best! This intramurals was my first time being in a team, and it was definetly my best! Especially when some of my classmates will move schools next year, this is a huge memory for us! After all that, I conclude, this was our 3-day Intramurals, 2023!
