How To Choose Wood For Wooden Bathroom Cabinets?
Wondering how to choose the best type of wood for bathroom cabinets? There is no need to put a halt to your bathroom cabinets' wooden ideas on account of confusion. Here is a guide to help you understand the different types of wood available for creating bathroom cabinets and how they vary from one another.
When you choose wood for making a bathroom vanity, there are a few things to keep in mind. The material needs to be relatively damageable in different temperature and humidity conditions. The weight of the wood, the texture, and the strength need to be considered when choosing a material.
Birchwood bathroom cabinets
Birchwood bathroom cabinets are a popular choice among homeowners. Birch is a tree with a thin hardwood layer. It is commonly found in northern hemisphere countries such as Canada, America, and Europe. Even though birchwood is used in the preparation of medicines, paper, and furniture, bathroom cabinets made of birchwood have a separate fanbase. The size of the wood and the finish have made it all the more desirable. It is also resistant to water, which makes it an ideal wood for bathroom cabinets.
The wood is attractive in colour and is quite light-coloured. The wood is strong and durable. As it can resist decay, it is the best choice for long-lasting furniture. You can easily stain and polish them to give them the texture you need. When polished, they do get a stained finish.
Birchwood is available quite easily, and you do not have to spend days finding the perfect materials for your wooden bathroom cabinets. But the wood is a little on the pricey side and can be attacked by pests. Pest-resistant materials are now available, which makes the whole affair a lot easier.
Maple wood for cabinets
If you want a fabulous-looking bathroom cabinet, your choice should be maple wood. The wood itself is quite pretty to look at. It can be painted quite easily, and the wood stains well. Among house owners and contractors for furniture, maple wood is quite popular. The light, creamy shade of the wood has a grain pattern on it. Many buyers are obsessed with that kind of design. The furniture made out of maple is very durable too. No matter what theme you have going on in your bathroom, maple wood complements both the modern and traditional look.
Other than the beauty features, the material is adept at dealing with humidity. This feature is what makes furniture made of maplewood last for decades. Any damage caused by the splashing of water is resisted by maple wood, making it the perfect choice for wooden bathroom cabinets. Any aesthetic look you are going for can be easily achieved with the help of the very versatile maple wood.
Solid plywood cabinets
If you do not want natural bathroom cabinets wooden, there are options for engineered wooden materials to build bathroom vanities. Many layers of wood veneer are put together to form plywood, which is an engineered product. Solid plywood is like MDF boards. It is more of a combination product. These materials are preferred for their durability and cost-effectiveness. The material is affordable and lightweight. Due to its lightweight, transporting the material to the site of manufacture wouldn't be a costly affair. It is also one of the most durable materials for furniture making.
Choose the right wood for your bathroom vanities after understanding the pros and cons of each material. Make a wise choice with all the information at hand to enjoy a durable and cost-effective bathroom vanity fit for your house.

It’s only partially true
For a long time now, the beetles have been absolutely ravaging the forests in Canada and out West. So there’s been a ton of trees coming down from that. In addition, a lot of people were subsidized in the 80s to plant pine forests, especially in the South, to make a profit and produce lumber domestically. So there was a glut of wood, and there still is, there’s no shortage of trees. In fact, the people selling trees are not getting paid any more now than they were in 2019, etc.
But the sawmills were shut down for a while, so there was a delay in production that shot the prices up, and Kidbro suspects they have a vested interest in keeping those up since their costs are the same.
So the price of Baltic birch plywood, a common thing in cabinetry, is becoming ~equal to the price of domestic plywood, because Europe is not having the same stall for some reason. So you can get much nicer wood for the same or slightly more.
And it’s ridiculous! Kidbro got CDX for $18 a sheet a year or two ago, now it’s $48 a sheet. So the shittiest construction-grade materials are as expensive as decent plywood coming out of Europe. Moral of the story.
And it’s not necessarily going to correct itself, because people are still buying all the wood even though it’s ridiculously expensive, because you’ve still got a line of Schmoes who are rich driving up the demand, and until the demand drops the supply is not going to catch back up.
“You should have just recorded my whole speech!” “I don’t have software for that.” “Yeah you do! It comes loaded on the computer!”
That’s all we talk about here in the US, is the price of wood. It’s pretty fun.

Exotic Rare Betula pendula silver birch, Weeping White Birch Seeds, Organic B25 Silver birch (Betula pendula) is a fast-growing, medium-sized deciduous tree, characterized by whitebark and pendulous branches. The tree is quite similar to the downy birch (Betula pubescens) but does not have hairy leaves and shoots. Silver birch is located across Europe, from the Mediterranean to central Siberia. Its natural range is further south than that of downy birch and the species is mostly found at higher altitudes. Betula pendula, commonly known as silver birch, warty birch, European white birch, or East Asian white birch, is a species of tree in the family Betulaceae, native to Europe and parts of Asia, though, in southern Europe, it is only found at higher altitudes Count: ~ 25 Sun Exposure Full sun from an early age Light shade when young Name: silver birch (Betula pendula). Height: eventually 8m+ with age. Foliage: deciduous. Climate: cold temperate, warm temperate. Soil: Prefers deep, well-drained soil. Position: full sun but will tolerate light shade. Flowering and fruiting: small cylindrical seed clusters. Feeding: Regular feeding with a balanced, controlled-release fertilizer. Watering: silver birch requires reliable watering, especially during hot and dry periods. They are easy to grow and if properly looked after they will grow quickly for the first few years, with the growth of up to 6ft per year. Silver Birch is very attractive in all seasons with soft green lacy foliage creating dappled shade in the summer. In the autumn the foliage turns gold and in winter you have a brilliant white trunk with red hanging branches. Silver birch is among the most commercially important trees in northern Europe, having a wide variety of uses. The tree’s pale-colored wood is used for carpentry and plywood production, as well as for pulp and fuelwood. Some varieties produce a certain curly wood used for veneer and smaller handicrafts. The tree is a pioneer species, useful for reforestation projects and soil protection. The tree’s young branches are also used as fodder for cattle, while the leaves and bark are valued for medicinal purposes. Silver birch is an essential component of temperate and boreal forests, where a large number of insects and fungi are dependent on its presence. The species thrives on fairly fertile and well-drained soils and is able to tolerate a broad range of site conditions and poor soils; however, it is sensitive to long periods of drought. Growing Info: Scarification: none required. Stratification: cold stratify for 60 days. Germination: requires light for germination, surface sow, and keep moist. Other: stratification may be used instead of surface sowing, it is better to surface sow if possible. How to germinate silver birch seeds Birch seeds are relatively easy to germinate and grow. The dormancy within the seed is short and easily broken. This is achieved by a short period of cold stratification in the fridge. You can do this by first soaking the seeds in water for 24 hours. Fully drain away all of the water and place the seeds in a zip-lock freezer bag. Place the seeds in the fridge, it is important that during this period that the seeds do not dry out or are waterlogged otherwise the pre-treatment will be ineffective. After between 4 and 6 weeks under these conditions, the seeds are ready to be sown. In general, many seeds will fail to germinate unless treated in this way, simply sowing untreated seeds in compost at room temperature will not break down the dormancy and germination will be disappointing. You can also choose to mix the seed with moistened vermiculite, fine perlite, or sand. These help to stop the seeds from clumping together and allow more between the seeds. Mix the seeds with a little moist horticultural sand and place them in loosely tied plastic bags in the bottom of a fridge (not the freezer!). Four weeks at low temperatures for moist birch seed improves the speed and evenness of germination. Aim to sow during April on seedbeds or in a pot (5-10 seeds per pot and remove all but the strongest seedling). Cover the seed with only 1-2mm coarse horticultural sand or grit. It is important that the seed is not covered too thickly as this could prevent germination. Firm the seeds gently. Fill your chosen container with a good quality general potting compost and firm it down well. Suitable containers could be plant pots, seed trays or plug trays, or even improvised containers with drainage holes. Firm the compost gently and sow the seeds on the surface, if you have pretreated your seeds without any vermiculite/perlite etc the seeds will be difficult to separate from each other. If you add a little dry sand at this point and mix thoroughly you will find that the sand separates the seed and makes it much easier to sow. Cover the seeds with a couple of millimeters of vermiculite or failing that a fine layer of sieved compost. Follow with a gentle watering and keep them at room temperature. Germination will begin a few weeks following sowing. The seedlings are very small and delicate, they need to be kept out of the hot sun until the first true leaves emerge. Shading and a moist seedbed are very important for successful germination. Seedling growth can be very rapid and has produced Birch seedlings over 1 meter tall in their first growing season, although heights of 20-50cm are more usual. It is preferable to produce shorter, stocky, well-branched seedlings rather than long leggy ones. These can only be grown if the sowing density is relatively low. Keep the seedlings well watered and free from competing weeds. Growth will accelerate in the second and subsequent years and the developing young trees should be planted in their permanent position usually by the end of their second year. Large trees of these species do not transplant well and should only be moved during the dormant season. How to propagate silver birch Sow the seeds into pots or trays of seed raising mix. Keep the mix damp, and little trees should appear in no time at all. How to plant and grow a silver birch Following pretreatment in the fridge, silver birch seeds should germinate rapidly. Feed regularly with a liquid fertilizer until August to encourage growth. It would not be unreasonable to expect up to 30 inches of growth in the first year, but the plants can be left in the pots for another year, provided they are fed regularly whilst they are actively growing (April-September). Winter is the ideal time to plant out your silver birch, but you can do it at other times of the year, too, provided it is not going to be too hot. Prepare the site well by clearing away any weeds or grass and making a hole big enough to accommodate the root ball. Plant carefully in the hole, to the same depth as it was in the pot, and firm back the soil. Choose a spot that is going to be out of hot winds, as these can scorch the leaves. The silver birch is frost tolerant. Make sure the site is prepared well and lots of compost has been added to the soil. Fan the roots out gently across the hole and plant the tree so that the soil is at the same height or slightly higher than the potting mix was when it was in its pot. Water it well. Caring tips Silver birch is a water lover, and you need to guarantee it water in the drier months. In drier parts of the country, you might even consider installing a small irrigation system to keep the soil damp. How and when to prune silver birch Silver birch needs no real pruning, except to ensure it has a straight main trunk, and this is usually not necessary as the nursery has done it for you. If it is in a narrow spot, you might want to remove the lower branches for ease of access or weeding under. Diseases and pests Another reason the silver birch is popular is that it rarely suffers from diseases or pests. Check your tree every now and then and address any problems if they arise. FAQ Do birch seeds need stratification? Stratification of birch seeds is not necessary if they are sown in the fall. And fall-sown seeds often germinate early in the spring- sometimes even before the soil can be prepared for spring sowing. This early start provides a longer growing season. For these reasons, many nurserymen prefer fall sowing. http://springsofeden.myshopify.com/products/exotic-rare-betula-pendula-silver-birch-weeping-white-birch-seeds-organic-b25

Blurring the Lines Between Art & Furniture with the ‘Living Tower’
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The radical design movements which emerged across Europe in the 1960s was a trajectory Scandinavian designers refused to adopt – instead, defined their renowned, minimal and functional aesthetic. This wasn’t true for Danish architect #VernerPantonwhose approach of fusing pop art into the furniture realm countered his regions practises. “The main purpose is to provoke people into using their imagination. Most spend their lives in dreary, grey-beige conformity, mortally afraid of colours. By experimenting with lighting, colours, textiles and furniture and utilising the latest technologies, I try to show new ways to encourage people to use their phantasy and make their surroundings exciting” Panton felt restricted as protégé of Denmark’s functionalist pioneer #ArneJacobsen and decided to channel his unconventional vision by founding his design studio in 1955. Inspired by radical designs utilising post-war era technology, experimentation with bold colours, synthetic materials and exaggerated shapes expressed his avant-garde style when his counter-parts stuck to a neutral palette of natural materials. Gaining acclamation for his lighting and furniture, he intended them to be viewed as works of art more so than functional pieces. The Living Tower furniture sculpture was unveiled in 1969. The 2 connecting structures stand at 2m and consist of 4 upholstered seating arrangement combinations encouraging communication. Compiled from polyurethane foam over a birch plywood frame and released in a selection of vibrant colours brought life to any room. Panton was commissioned to curate the ‘Visiona’ installations at 1968 and 1970 Cologne Furniture Fair assembling the towers to create the impression of a futuristic ship. Recently revived, it’s been used on the cover of #SteveLacy’s album and #LilYachty has given a #TikTok tutorial of its various positions. The 1967 Panton chair was the first independently developed product by Vitra and having built an extensive partnership has allowed them to acquire his eccentric designs for retrospective re-releases following his death in 1998.

Birch Bay
12 September 2020
Tumblr media
Our travel hasn’t exactly been extensive or exotic this year! In April, we didn’t go to Europe. In May, we didn’t go to California. In June and July, we didn’t go anywhere. But in August, we went to the Kitsap Peninsula. For three days. And then last week, we went practically to Canada.
Tumblr media
We started with an outdoor visit with Canadian friends at Peace Arch Park in Blaine, then drove twenty minutes south from the border and spent three nights camping at Birch Bay State Park. Where we read, played games, and pretty much did nothing ... which was the whole point. We walked down to the beach several times and even went out for a short drive each day, but that was about it.
Monday evening’s sunset was great and we could see the Gulf Islands and the mountains north of Vancouver very clearly, but the smoke came in on Tuesday and stayed around . Fortunately, for us, it never got as bad as Seattle, let alone OR or CA.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We had a fire the first night, but the fire ban kicked in the next day (right after we bought firewood). Mornings are better with a fire; marshmallows are better toasted. But sometimes, fires just seem like a bad idea.
I spent a stupid amount of time after our last camping trip coming up with a design for a camp kitchen. Basically a collapsible plywood box that holds the stove, utensils, and has some counter space. Heavy, but it worked.

The Wood Database
Hardwood is not suppose to be harder and denser compared to softwood but it comes from flowering trees while softwood comes from conifers.
Hardwood :
- Maple, Oak, and Walnut. These trees grow slowly, and hard wood contains denser wood fibres.
Properties of Hardwood :
- It grows slowly compared to softwood, so as it takes a longer time to grown the price become higher than softwood.
-It is durable, close grain and requires low maintenance.
- Good fire resistance
- Commonly used for wooden flooring , comes with natural colours, styles and patterns.
Softwood :
It comes from gymnosperms, they are seed bearing trees such as Pine, spruce, fir, cedar, juniper, redwood and yew. They grow tall and straight so it is easier to cut them down.
Properties of Softwood :
- non- porous wood
- As vessels are absent, it allows softwood to absorb adhesives quickly, resulting in a better finish.
- commonly used in. building material  e.g. Structural frames, exterior and interior wall cladding, fitting, floor coverings, formwork and scaffolding etc.
- Loose grain, higher sap content, and lighter colour.
- Poor fire resistance
- Fine and Lightweight structure which suits for making furniture.
Hard wood Examples
1. Mahogany

Qualities of Wood
Timber is a type of wood that primary use for the structural support.
“ Fire Resistance”
When timber get exposed to fire it is going to break down so it Is important to choose the wood that provide a fire resistance. It called Self protecting nature of wood so it provides a basic natural resistance for itself. Denser wood often has a higher fire resistance.
Shape: a high quality of Wood will remain their original shape and structural during any season or any process
Strength: Strength increases with density. Timber has 3 types of straights including bending straight, shearing straight and tensile straight.
Toughness: Be able to endure shocks and vibrations.
Water permeability: If the wood has higher water permeability it will quickly absorb moisture

All about wand woods: Magick and meaning from Alder to Zebrawood
Tumblr media
Posted by Michelle Gruben on Apr 29, 2019
Welcome to the world of woods! As a wand-maker (or wand purchaser), you may wish to know more about the different woods that lend their character to your magickal tools.
This list is alphabetical and includes many of the most common wand woods. The woods on this list are drawn from three broad categories: The traditional Celtic (Ogham) trees, domestic trees that are more commonly found in American parks and backyards, and the exotic imported woods that are favoured by luxury wandmakers. It’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s a start. I’ve included an overview of each tree, personal notes about the energy of each wood, and some comments about its availability for the shopper (or scavenger).
Many wood properties and meanings have been subsumed into the lore of the Harry Potter universe. That’s fine for imaginative play, of course—and J.K. Rowling was clearly inspired by some of the occult traditions surrounding various trees. Still, for the serious practitioner, Potterania leaves something to be desired. For this article, we’re going back in time to learn the ancient meanings of each tree, and into the present to visit the experiences of “real” magick workers.
Obtaining wand wood
There is much tradition (and superstition) that concerns the gathering of wood for magickal wands. Some say that wands should be made from fallen branches only. Others maintain that the most powerful wands are cut from living branches (after observing the proper permissions and offerings to the tree spirit, of course). Each tree spirit has its own customs/prohibitions and preferred offerings.
Many Witches prefer to use wood from a tree they visit often, or even a tree that is under their care. Many also prefer to shape their own wand by hand—indeed, this is a beginner’s exercise that is required by some magickal traditions.
Making your own wand from a local tree is an excellent way to bond with your tool, but it's not strictly necessary. Follow your will. There’s no shame in using other avenues to obtain the wand of your dreams. Unless you happen to live in the tropics, you’re not going to be able to go out back and prune a branch of Mahogany for your wandcraft. Unless you have extensive woodcrafting experience and access to speciality tools, you may not be able to craft a wand that matches your inner vision of what the Wand should be.
Here are my (admittedly simple and animistic) thoughts on the matter of purchasing wand wood: Each tree has two spirit beings attached to it. It has an individual spirit (i.e., the spirit of the oak tree) that dies when the plant dies, and is primarily concerned with the health and survival of that individual plant. It also has a ruling spirit (the spirit of “capital-O” Oak). The ruling spirit does not die, but lives through every existing Oak, and is concerned with manifesting its greater purpose in the world.
Ideally, the magick worker would craft a wand in communion with both spirits. But, depending on the type of wood desired, that may not always be practical.
If you can’t make contact with the individual tree that provided your wand wood, at least take the time to study and meditate on the ruling spirit of that type of tree. Be creative with your offerings: A gift of energy or money toward distant conservation efforts could stand in for the more traditional offering of blood, milk and honey, or fertiliser.
Some wand woods listed here are scarce or threatened in their natural habitats. Some trees should only be pruned of branches at certain times of year (or not at all). These wood descriptions are provided for information purposes only. It’s not an endorsement of using rare or vulnerable trees for your wand. Seek out the most current information on these woods and use your best ethical judgement as a Witch.
And now, let's meet some trees!
Alder
The Alder tree is gentle in appearance but possesses legendary strength. Alder trees are associated with battle and steadfast survival. When cut, the white wood releases red-orange sap, giving the appearance of bleeding. Alder wood is resistant to decay and hardens when immersed in water, making it very valuable to European builders before the invention of concrete.
The Alder is a sacred tree in Germanic, Druidic, and Celtic lore, and is said to be a gateway to the Otherworld. It supports and protects humankind and is allied with human goals. In Irish mythology, the first man sprang from an Alder tree. The courageous Alder led the charge in the saga known as the Battle of Trees.
Wands made from Alder carry a Fiery energy that is excellent for spells of protection, motivation, and action. Working with the wood increases courage and determination. Alder wands are complex and somewhat unpredictable—you could say the wand of Alder is willing to change and evolve with its user.
Physically, Alder is a relatively soft, even-textured wood with a lovely honey tone. It is not considered a fine craft wood but has come into favour as an inexpensive lumber source. The fast-growing Alder tree is common across North America and Europe, where it is frequently planted for re-forestation and to stabilize wet soil.
Apple
The Apple tree symbolises immortality and true love. Its wood is durable and sweet-smelling—an ideal wand for the loyal and heart-centred Witch. Apple wood embodies the feminine aspects of the Divine and is traditionally used for healing and love magick. (Pear wood has very similar physical and metaphysical properties.)
The generous Apple tree provides fruit, shade, ornamentation, and excellent timber for the smoker and fireplace. Cured Apple wood is widely available, and fresh branches can often be found for free, especially if you know a landscaper or arborist.
Ash
The Ash tree grows abundantly across North America and Europe. The Druids considered it the most magickal of all trees. Some people also say that Yggdrasil, the World Tree of Norse cosmology, is an Ash tree. It has long been associated with wisdom and noble sacrifice.
The wood of the Ash is quite hard but also resilient, as it bends to resist shattering.  The wood is pale beige to medium brown, with a wavy grain that somewhat resembles Oak.  An Ash wand will amplify and enhance just about any kind of magick: Protection, power, knowledge, love, justice, wisdom, and prosperity.
The Ash tree is common to many regions, and the wood can be obtained either commercially or in the wild. Ash is tough and is less expensive than Oak, making it a popular choice for furniture, tool handles, kitchen utensils, and sporting equipment. (And wands, naturally.) White Ash produces the finest Ash timber—it’s an appealing blond wood that’s odourless and gives an even finish.
Birch
Known to Pagans as the White Lady of the Woods, the Birch tree represents rebirth and fertility. As a fast-growing, upright-standing tree, the Birch makes an ideal wand for the magickal novice. (Read our in-depth article on Birch here.) Other magickal properties of Birch include adaptability, inspiration, and fearlessness.
Birch wood is easy to work with, sustainable, and reasonably priced. Its uniform grain and light colour means it takes wood stains exceptionally well. Birch can be finished in any colour from blond to ebony. Birch lumber is most commonly used as a plywood/veneer, but thicker logs and branches may be available to the woodworker.
Bubinga
An exotic hardwood native to equatorial Africa, Bubinga is a strongly magickal and luxurious choice. It is reddish in colour and heavy, with a prominent dark-brown grain that may be wavy or straight. Bubinga veneers are popular in the construction of fine stringed instruments, which makes the wood an appealing choice for the bardic magician.
Bubinga carries the energy of the Moon and Jupiter, with a hint of fiery Mars. A Bubinga wand is excellent for bringing about positive changes, especially in matters related to the emotions. Its attributes are passion, courage, intuition, creativity, charisma and influence.
Cedar
Cedar is the Grandfather of trees—one of Earth’s oldest beings, nearly unchanged since the primeval forests. Magickally, Cedar corresponds to wisdom, protection, and longevity. Wands made from Cedar are ideal for cleansing and warding, as well as creating sacred space where learning can flourish.
Cedar has a reputation as a difficult wood to work, especially on a lathe. Its irregular grain and variable hardness means that it reacts unpredictably to the woodworker’s tools. However, the wood is still prized for its swirled patterns and spicy fragrance. A Cedar wand, when patiently crafted, is a beautiful and unique tool that displays the unique character of this ancient tree.
Cherry
Nicknamed "New England mahogany," Cherry is one of the finest woods North America has to offer. It has a distinctive light reddish colour and beautifully figured grain.  (A lot of "Cherry" furniture is made from Maple that has been stained to resemble this elegant timber.)
All fruitwoods are sacred to the Goddess. Cherry has an especially harmonious, feminine energy and is good for healing, love magick, unity, and community. A Cherry wand will not react badly to being shared, so it's a good choice for teachers and covens. Divination, mediumship, and the detection of magick are also properties of Cherry.
Ebony
A dense black hardwood native to India and western Africa, Ebony is synonymous with luxury. Ebony carvings have been prized for thousands of years, with some specimens being found in Egyptian tombs. The small tree yields a silky, tightly grained wood that rewards fine craftsmanship and a high polish.
Ebony is regarded as a wood of pure power. It is attributed to Water and to receptive, feminine energy. Ebony amplifies without discriminating. This is a wood that does not guide, but instead lends its power to whatever the bearer intends. Its amoral nature means that Ebony is best suited to the mature practitioner.
Ebony is expensive, but available from purveyors of exotic hardwoods, especially in small pieces. (Know your supplier: Ebony is threatened/endangered in many areas, and the Ebony trade is rife with corruption, over harvesting, and smuggling.) Wear respiratory protection when carving or sanding Ebony, as the dust is toxic. If a wand of pure Ebony is out of your budget, consider incorporating a band, bead, or inlay of Ebony into your wand’s handle or reservoir.
Elder
The venerable Elder tree is associated with the Crone, the death phase, and the Faery realms. She is a keeper of some of the oldest and deepest magick. Working with an Elder wand requires patience and courage, but it will reward the true seeker with transformative wisdom. Magickal properties of Elder include healing, banishing, and underworld journeying.
Folk wisdom has it that Elder branches should never be cut or burned. The Wiccan Rede states: “Elder be ye Lady’s tree/Burn it not, or cursed ye’ll be.” When making a wand from Elder, use fallen branches only and finish by hand, using no fire nor metal tools. An Elder wand should be used for benevolent magick only, as any curses cast with Elder are sure to have unintended consequences.
Perhaps due to superstition, and perhaps due to the tree’s small stature, it’s difficult to find Elder wood for sale. (Box Elder, popular with hobbyists, is in fact a relative of Maple.) To find wild Elder, the dedicated wand-maker will need to seek out hedgerows, scrubs, and wastes. Elder’s beautiful white flowers and edible berries mean that domestic plants are sometimes available in nurseries—though you will need to wait a while before any branches are large enough to be suitable for wandmaking.
Elm
Elm is the Elven tree—strong, practical, and magickal all at once. Elm is both an earthly protector and a gateway to the Otherworlds, a medicinal plant and an emblem of death and transformation. The Elm spirit is an impartial observer and arbitrator. Its elements are Earth and Air.
Elm wood is similarly multi-faceted. An Elm wand puts the energies of love and protection in balance. Its magickal uses are diverse, and can include protection, counter-magick, attracting love, and connecting with nature spirits. An Elm wand is ideal for both the advanced magick worker (who can appreciate its complexity) and the beginner (who can be guided by its possibilities).
There are many Elm species, and Elm lumber varies widely in colour and texture. It’s not particularly pleasant to work—being coarse, porous, and fuzzy—and the green wood has a strong urine-like odour. (Don’t let any of this deter you if you are drawn to work with Elm.) Elm trees are gentle in temperament and usually do not mind being pruned for their branches. Harvest Elm branches only in the early growing season (before the Spring Equinox) to avoid exposing the cut tree to disease.
Hawthorn
Hawthorn is the third part of the “Oak, Ash, and Thorn” triad of Celtic magickal trees. Hawthorn has strong ties to the realm of Faery, and in European lore it symbolises both fertility and death. Hawthorn energy is powerful and complex—it is one of the only plants attributed simultaneously to Mars and Venus.
A Hawthorn wand is a traditional tool for spells of love and fertility, as the tree has folkloric associations with the festival of Beltane. (To bring the flowers indoors is considered bad luck, but no such prohibition exists for the branches and thorns.) Hawthorn is both a medicinal and magickal healer of the heart…it is also a tenacious protector of its occult secrets. To work with Hawthorn requires patience, tolerance, and a keen sense of discovery.
Hawthorn branches are white to yellow—often small and twisted with a darker figured grain. This wood is not often found commercially. (In Britain and Ireland it may be called Whitethorn and sold as a material for walking sticks.) In North America, Hawthorn trees are planted as hardy ornamentals. As it is sacred to the Faeries, one most always ask permission (and wait for an answer) before taking branches from this tree.
Hazel
Hazel is a tree of wisdom and learning. Its forked branches represent decision-making, and it is said that meditating beneath a Hazel tree will bring clarity in any dilemma. The Hazel nut is a repository of knowledge in Celtic folklore, and the origin of the phrase "in a nutshell."
A wand of Hazel brings inspiration, increases psychic abilities, and helps put the bearer in touch with the wisdom of nature. Hazel is attributed to Mercury, and it is said that the messenger god himself carries a staff of Hazel.
In Celtic magick, Hazel is one of the most traditional trees for wand-making. It is sacred to Brighid, and often grows near sacred wells. In the American South, Witch Hazel is used in dowsing rods for water witching and other folk magick customs and formulas. (Witch Hazel isn’t closely related to true Hazel, but the plants bear a superficial resemblance to each other.)
With its short stature and thin trunk, Hazel has never achieved viability as a commercial timber. Nevertheless, it is hard and close-grained, finishes beautifully, and is sometimes planted as a landscape tree. If you seek Hazel wood, try asking an arborist, or seek out individual sellers on Etsy or eBay.
Hickory
One of the densest woods available, Hickory is synonymous with strength. Hickory is hard, stiff, and heavy and yields tough, inedible nuts.  It is structurally sound even when cut thin, and is popular for tool handles and golf clubs. (In Texas, we treasure this slow-burning wood for the barbecue pit!)
Hickory wood is an ideal choice for the stubborn or resolute mage. Protection, power, and direction are its magickal traits. A wand carved of straight-grained Hickory is an apt symbol of the unbending Will.
Holly
The evergreen Holly tree embodies both protection and peace. It happily endures the changing of the seasons—for this reason, it is a symbol of immortality. Physical strength and sacrifice are also attributes of Holly. It is a symbol of the warrior, when the warrior is also spiritually aware and true of heart.
Holly wood is dense, fine-grained, and creamy white in colour. (It is among the hardest and palest of the hardwoods.) Holly blanks and dowels may be purchased the wandmaker. Holly’s popularity as an ornamental tree/shrub means that it is also easy to find in urban and suburban areas.
Mahogany
Mahogany is a luxurious hardwood valued for its straight grain and luscious, reddish-brown colour. Mahogany conducts vibration well, which has historically made it a favourite wood for fine musical instruments. It has a deep, warm, energetic tone that matches its rich colour.
Spiritual growth, guidance, and strength are the magickal properties of Mahogany. Mahogany is a sophisticated, balanced wood—imbued with energies of both Earth and Fire—and seeks a magickal partner who is equally well-rounded.
Mahogany is prized as a craft material, and several varieties are available from speciality wood shops. It is medium-hard and easy to work. (Use protection. Like many tropical woods, Mahogany dust may irritate the lungs and skin.) Some types of Mahogany are threatened by over-harvesting—consider the source when purchasing.
Maple
A quintessentially North American tree, Maple yields both sweetness and strength. It is a smooth, blond-coloured wood that sometimes shows semi-translucent or chatoyant effects. It is hard, but not excessively heavy or brittle.  "Curly” Maple has irregularities in the grain that form a desirable wavy pattern.
Maple conducts and stores energy exceptionally well. (The high mineral content which gives Maple its characteristic sheen also contributes to its energetic properties.) Maple is ruled by Mercury. Magickally, it is versatile and forgiving and is said to contain both masculine and feminine energy. Known as the "traveller's wood," Maple aids in many spells including healing, communication, learning, creativity, beauty and abundance.
This beautiful wood is available commercially in many different grades, shapes, and sizes. Midsummer is the best time to cut fresh Maple branches, as they will not be over-full of sap.
Oak
The strong and hardy Oak tree and has been known as an ally of humans for millennia for its wood. Oak timbers have a mostly straight grain with some swirls and rays. Its watertight properties make Oak historically valuable for boat-building and vessel-making.
Oak has long been regarded as one of the most sacred trees. Sometimes called the "Lightning Tree," the Oak tree is associated with sky Gods. Its magickal attributes include authority, leadership, focus, wisdom, truth, and personal sovereignty.
White Oak is light to medium beige, with an olive-yellow cast. Red Oak is a slightly softer wood that comes in shades of reddish tan. Oak has a strong, friendly energy that is comforting and empowering to handle.
Oak grows widely and many excellent varieties are available to the wand-maker.
Pine
Pine is one of the Celtic Ogham woods—however, it’s not a traditional wand wood. Pine is more soft and resinous than deciduous hardwoods. It dents easily and the sap tends to gum up tools, which can limit its utility as a fine craft material.
Even so, countless Witches wield Pine wands because it is the most common wood available at craft and hardware stores. Pine does not make the most durable or powerful wand possible. Instead, it is a wood that rewards creativity and spontaneity with its low cost and flexible energy. Magickal properties of Pine include prosperity, purification, and protection against negativity.
Poplar
Poplar (also known as Tulipwood or Whitewood) is a creamy yellow timber, sometimes tinted toward grey or green. Lightweight and supple, Poplar wood has little visible grain and grows very straight.
The fast-growing Poplar tree has an affinity with the element of Air. Versatile Poplar is suitable for most magickal applications. It's especially known for attracting money, bringing eloquence, and adapting to changing circumstances.
Poplar is related to Aspen, and the two are basically interchangeable for magickal purposes. It's widely available as a craft wood.
Purpleheart
An exotic wood from Central and South America with a dramatic natural purple colour. When first cut, it’s often greyish-brown, but the colour deepens to wine as the wood is exposed to ultraviolet light. Purpleheart is among the heaviest of all craft woods. It is an ideal partner for the imaginative, the spiritual, and the creative magick worker.  Purpleheart can feel different to each user, but its main attributes are divination, aspiration, knowledge, spirituality, and transformation.
Purpleheart (and its relatives, Yellowheart and Redheart) are prized by woodworkers for their rich colour, and can be found at most speciality wood shops.
Rosewood
Rosewood refers to any number of richly hued tropical timbers. It is named for its sweet, floral aroma—which is strongest when the wood is freshly milled—and not for any botanical relation to Rose bushes.
Rosewood has a very special energetic quality, full of mystery and dark magick.  It is not the darkness of negativity, but of repose and inner knowing.  Rosewood is said to bring true and lasting love, psychic openness, and healing energy to magickal spells. Rosewood has a compassionate, receptive energy that makes it well suited to reflecting matters of the heart. A desert plant, Rosewood remembers what it is like to thrive despite hardship. It is traditionally used for love magick, divination, and healing.
Rosewood is rich brown (with darker veining), very strong and heavy, and takes an excellent polish. (Brazilian Rosewood is perhaps the most coveted of all the craft woods.) It was overharvested in the 1960s and 1970s and trade in most varieties of Rosewood is now restricted on the world market.
Still, some types of Rosewood are available to the wand purchaser. Indian Rosewood, or sheesham, is commonly found in imported crafts. It is a true Rosewood (though softer and more porous than finer varieties) and its energetic properties are similar to its rarer cousins.
Rowan
Also called Mountain Ash (though it’s not a true Ash), Rowan is a smallish, high-dwelling tree with red berries. It has a long folkloric association with witchcraft. In Scottish tradition, Rowan was used to make dowsing rods and walking sticks (for protection), and non-magickal uses of the wood were forbidden.
Rowan is associated with protective magick, and Rowan wands are excellent for warding, banishing, and commanding spells. Other meanings include insight, inspiration, persistence, and Faery blessings. Rowan branches are thin, but the wood is light-coloured and good for hand-carving.
Rowan is found mostly in Europe and Britain. Its small size and remote habitats mean it’s rarely available as a timber. In the United States, it is occasionally planted as a shrubbery, and is better known to landscapers as Mountain Ash. Seek out speciality craft wood suppliers to purchase Rowan. Bundles of Rowan twigs are occasionally found as a rustic décor item.
Walnut
Walnut trees are large, hardy and slow-growing members of the Hickory family. (An old Dutch proverb says, "By the time the Walnut tree is tall, the planter will surely be dead.") A Walnut wand is ideal for the magician who wishes to cultivate patience and strength. Walnut contains the combined energies of Air and Earth: clarity and intelligence, confidence and wisdom. In Italian tradition, it is said to shelter dancing Witches at their Sabbats.
American Black Walnut has an unmistakable chocolate-brown colour.  It is durable but also fairly light, and for these reasons it is much sought-after by fine furniture makers. The grain is highly figured near the roots, but becomes straight as it travels up the tree's trunk. Neither "zingy" nor sluggish, the energy of a Walnut wand is a good balance between the two.
Walnut wood is available to the wandmaker in lumber, in dowels, and in turning blanks. American Black Walnut is widespread across the eastern United States, and other species may be found in most temperate climates.
Willow
Willow has been known since ancient times as a Witch’s tree, or tree of enchantment. Willow has flexible branches, but deep roots. One of the lessons of Willow is to hold fast to the Earth, but to bend with the breeze. Willow’s “weeping” stance reflects its association with changing emotions, especially grief.
Indeed, one of Willow’s main magickal uses is for healing. (This is a water-loving tree whose bark has medicinal properties.) As a Lunar tree, Willow wood believed to increase psychic sensitivity. Willow is also sacred to poets, as the sound of its rustling branches was said to inspire song and verse. A Willow wand is an ideal choice for poets, bards, healers, and seers.
Willow wood is non-durable and vulnerable to rot, so it’s rarely available as a craft wood. Bundles of Willow twigs can sometimes be found at craft and décor shops. Willow needs to be dried thoroughly (and protected from insects and warping) if it’s to be used as a wand wood.
Yew
Yew is a sacred tree that can live well over 1000 years, and there are Yews in Britain that are reputed to be much older than that. Some say that it is the only living thing that is theoretically capable of living indefinitely.
Yew is a being whose life outspans all other creatures—its mysteries are deep and difficult to understand. Most parts of the plant are poisonous. It is attributed to Saturn and linked to death and immortality. Yew wands lend themselves to dark and complex magickal workings.
Yew is rarely seen as a craft wood due to slow growth and centuries of overharvesting. Older trees are usually hollow, and almost all lumber is riddled with pips, knots, and voids. English Yew is not commercially available due to the protected status of many old groves. Still, it is possible to make a Yew wand responsibly if you are content with using a smaller piece of wood (or Pacific Yew rather than English).
Zebrawood
This exotic West African wood is named for its unique black-and-gold striped pattern. Its magickal attributes are love, luck, creativity, and beauty.
Alternately hard and soft, Zebrawood is prone to warping and requires skilled cutting, carving, and finishing to display its best character. It is usually sold in quarter-sawn panels or small pen blanks. It may take some searching to find a piece of Zebrawood that is wide and long enough to make a wand…or even a wand handle. Consider using Zebrawood (and other rare woods) as part of a multi-wood wand design.
Thank you for reading, and happy wand-ing!

Exquisite Plywood - Gives a Complete Turnaround to Your Home and Premises
The  versatility of plywood in terms of strength, appeal and workability has made it  have a central role in a wide range of construction elements including furniture, floors, wood crafts, walls and many other places. In manufacture,  the plywood can be made of soft or hard wood. Some of the plywood’s that will  give the best product include the Elliotis pine plywood, Birch plywood and  poplar plywood.
Tumblr media
In other cases, depending on the intended  usage, the plywood may be made faced with real wood for enhanced decorative  effect. Due to the  unique arrangement of layers of wood chips on the board, the material becomes  stronger than a similar sized piece of wood and also twice resistant to  shearing compared to regular wood.
Hardwood  Plywood
Tumblr media
The Elliotis  Form Plywood of hardwood plywood exhibits greater features of strength,   durability,  impact resistance, stability, and aesthetic appeal compared  to softwood  plywood.   In addition, the grain orientation and   characteristics add to the   beauty  and appeal of the product.   Consistency and quality of chips  are also important considerations in   the production of hardwood veneers. The manufacture of the  grains is   done in different   processes to enhance the strength of the final    product.
These   processes include;
Rotary log slicing Quarter slicing Rift cutting Plane slicing
All these  methods produce grain orientations that ultimately give special effect to the  final product.
Elliotis Pine Plywood
Tumblr media
This product is manufactured from a single species of the Elliotis     pine plywood. It is manufactured with an odd number of plies with each of the   plies  oriented at 90 degrees to the adjacent plies to achieve the   enhanced   strength effect and a balanced construction. The face and   reverse   veneers are always oriented to the direction of the longest     dimension. The plywood can be used in walls, roofs and floors. In non     domestic applications, the Elliotis plywood can be used in sit   hoarding, window shuttering, structural applications, wall sheating   floor and in roof decking.
Birch Plywood The Birch plywood product is native to the north eastern regions of   Europe and was primarily developed for the European cabinet making.   Unlike the traditional plywood,   the layers of inner plies may be up   to 1.5mm thick,  which are cross   banded and laminated with exterior   grade adhesive, and this  results   in a void free core. Au-Mex provides wide range of Birch Plywoods which includes:Interior plywood, Exterior plywood, Film Faced plywood, Exterior (WBP) plywood, Sale Birch plywood.
Important features of the Birch  plywood Superior screw holding Cleaner joinery Improved strength and stability Very attractive appearance Thicker face veneer of  reasonable quality
Poplar Plywood
