Hi! I saw your video on YouTube about when you were giving your female starling some medication for her leg. My starling has had the same type of problem and no medication has helped. I was wondering if you’ve had any luck getting rid of the lump?
The leg bumps are a perplexing problem for captive starlings, and despite decades of captive starling care I don't believe anyone has figured out exactly why. There's quite a few proposed causes but the leading theory I believe is impacts with hard surfaces like hardwood that they wouldn't normally encounter in the wild.
Bowie's legs, before and after treatment respectively:
After treatment Bowie's leg bumps did become smaller and less prominent and no longer seemed inflamed/bothered her. There is still some residual bumpiness there but you can definitely see an improvement, and it no longer seems to be an irritant to her.
What I used was dimethyl sulfoxide, or DMSO, diluted 1:9 DMSO to water. DMSO is a solvent sometimes used topically to treat inflammation in various animals. It was recommended to me by my avian vet who has decades of experience, and I trust his judgement, but your mileage may vary. DMSO is approved by the FDA for treatment in dogs and horses for topical inflammation treatment. That being said, please conduct your own research and consult your avian vet before purchasing DMSO and treating your pet with it. I don't have the spoons to really dive deep into the literature right now, so I'm trusting my avian vet knows what he's talking about. Here's a bit more info on its use in dogs and horses if you're curious.
Also, unless your bird is actively picking at the bumps, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Bowie got DMSO treatment because the inflammation was bothering her. It's completely fine to leave them if they aren't causing irritation.
Hope this helps!

Maybe I'm just losing my mind over this because I'm constantly in demon birds hell but Octavia's design makes me go brrr. If anything it's interesting that she has more Stella in her considering the show's direction so far

speaking of sys stuff, so i think i've mentioned that some of my headmates aren't exactly human? they DO look human in our headspace but they don't feel human if that makes sense. which led to this interaction a few weeks ago on the way to a therapy session while i was completely dissociated and didn't remember where to go so two of my headmates had to do most of the work
headmate number one: oh. huh. so these are legs. hm. they look kind of fragile
headmate number two: please be careful we forgot our kneepads today^^''
headmate number one: sorry. it's just. wow these things are fragile. like you're really just expected to... walk with them? like this?
headmate number two: please don't ever say things like that ever again^^
