The Kickstarter is live! Help crafting dreams come true by helping me Bring Marled Yarn Back! If the campaign is fully funded I'll be able to create 12 colorways of Fully Spun marled yarn that will be available online and at local yarn stores across the country!
Wondering what marled yarn is, or why I'm doing a Kickstarter? You can check out my blog posts here where I talk more about it! I also have an Instagram highlight where there are lots of photos and I break down exactly what marled yarn is and why you'll love making with it.

Day 1 ✨ Brand Introduction ✨: Somehow even after introducing myself so often, introducing myself is so hard. It feels like Im constantly saying the same thing, I'm a Computer Science major dabbling in knitwear design. I just graduated with my Masters in January 🎓 This picture is actually from when I graduated undergrad 2 years before that, unfortunately due to /these unprecidented times/ I didnt get to celebrate my Masters. Hopefully I get into my PhD program of choice and in 4-6 years we can all be celebrating me attaining my doctorates 🤞 I knit and I sew, one day I hope to be desigining sewn garments as well as knit -- though I dont think I want to draft patterns for sewing 😬 Im actually trying to get into leatherworking (mainly making plague doctor masks) I also (obviously) program so if anyone needs a python or C++ programmer 💻, I'm your gal 👩‍💻👈 No seriously, though this post is more about my knitting and sewing, I would really like a programming job. Pls. Im trying to break into the industry. I can also work Arduinos and RaspberryPis. I technically do have a logo, but its just a silly red semicolon in a black background. I was thinking of designing something more apt for my brand. The semi in my name derives from my internet handle @semicolonexpected which is a reference to a common programming error. I think what makes my brand me is that my designs usually have an element that seems drawn from the fantastic. Dragons 🐲, tentacles 🐙, magic, and sometimes the creepy crawly. I try to stay down to earth but just floating a little. On the @joannehawker's #MarchMeetTheMaker help and suggestions page it says "now is the time to polish up that speech [the introduction] so you can be prepared for next time" but I somehow bomb the speech awkwardly every time. Btw did you know theres an ig character limit? . . . . . #meetthemaker #marchmeetthemaker2021 #meettheartist #plagueknitting #diverseknitters #knittersofinstagram #knittersofnewyork #stayhomeandknit #diversityincraft #diversknitty #knitweardesigner #knitdesign #designersofinstagram #makersofinstagram #womeninstem #womeninbusiness #teamfiberfawns #craftersofinstagram #bipocinfiber #bipocknitters (at The River Café) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL49d7QJ2J9/?igshid=525d4sfyiubc

Reposted from @lhamiltonbrown I’ve just watched ‘Smallman: The World My Father Made’ a beautiful short documentary by Mariel Brown @marielbrown74 “Smallman is Richard Mark Rawlins’ @rmraffinity personal exploration of the real and imagined worlds that his father, Kenwyn, made, in the workshop beneath their house”. The film won the prize for Best Documentary Short at Caribbean Tales Film Festival, 2015. Please watch (link in my profile) 😍 Watching the documentary reminded me how important it is to capture our families’ making history. This is especially true for black people whose stories are often missing or when told are from a white gaze. It’s Windrush Day tomorrow - my parents like others came to British in response to the request from the Motherland - England. They were tailors, shoemakers, artists, photographers, graphic designers, seamstresses and more - who will tell their stories? Are they valued as Arts & Crafts people? We need to value what our parents and grandparents made and their making stories - do you agree? It’s been lovely to see Belinda @theknittinghotel share information about her Indian mother who was a knitwear designer - studied at the Royal College of Art, London and set up a company called Newsight that ran the British School of Knitting. I think film has an important role to play in documenting these hidden stories. Armed with your phone you can capture these quite easily for posterity. My dad made shoes, designed and made candlewick bedspreads. Sadly I never record him talking about what he made or own one of his bedspreads. I have recorded my mum talking about knitting and her job as a seamstress. #blackmakersmatter #bipocinfiber #knittersofinstagram #crochetersofinstagram #quiltersofinstagram #blackcrafters #oralhistory #modelmaking #modelmaker #windrush - #regrann https://www.instagram.com/p/CBtbBQlJDR2/?igshid=14ja974ydrecr

Build it so good they'll say it had to be made by aliens... regular human over here, but I had to have evidence of an amount of POC Inclusive Pride skeins that I don't think I'll ever see again. A person who I grew up watching knit on TV, and whose book I'm pretty sure I got at the library to help teach myself, reached out and wanted to include my yarn in her subscription box for Pride Month. Talk about full circle! More details on that to come, but in the meantime I dyed a few extra and they are in the shop.
If you are looking for the other Pride colorways and haven't been able to find the ones you want, I'll be opening up a preorder soon so you can get as many as you want delivered to you in early June. I'll also be hosting a Pride themed KAL this June and July.

Came in a little late to the #fiberuarychallenge, but better late than never 🙃 Here's my Day 1 and 4 (I'm allowed to combine prompts to play catchup right?) Intro: Hi, on the interwebz I'm SemicolonExpected and as expected from that username I am a Computer Science major who just graduated with my Masters in January! 🥳 I dabble in knitwear design and have so far released 3 patterns 🔼 LINK IN MY BIO 🔼 and working on releasing my fourth! (🤫 Hint: its the sweater I'm wearing right now - I'm working on getting a call for testers out. Just need the perfect modeled shot first 🤫) I like all things fantasy 🐲, lovecraftian 🐙, and am definitely partial to period dramas and anything with pretty costumes 👗 Its cliche bit video games 🎮 are definitely one of my biggest sources of inspirations. Day 4: Made in 2020 was also this sweater Ive introduced above. I was inspired by @hashtagliza's Smock Madness when I noticed that the smocking st looks like scales and I knew I had to make a draconic sweater. Any guesses to what Ive named this? . . . . . . . . . . #craftersofinstagram @fiberuarychallenge #diverseknitters #knittersofinstagram #knittersofnewyork #knittedsweater #knittingaddict #diversityincraft #fiberuary #bipocinfiber #bipocknitters #fiberuarychallenge2021 #handknit #plagueknitting #dragonsweater #knitstagram #ravelry #knitweardesigner #knitdesign #sampleknitting #testknit #testknitter #teamfiberfawns #madebyme #nerdgirl #nerdy https://www.instagram.com/p/CK4D5lLpjvK/?igshid=13ose1dmixjmu

For me, the Pride Collection is a chance to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community where I have found myself, and found some of my closest friends. In a world that often doesn't leave space for us, we make space for ourselves and each other. The Pride Collection is available year-round, but I have dedicated May to making sure you have as much as you need for your Pride-themed craft projects.
Now through 5/22, or when space runs out, all existing Pride Collection colorways are available for preorder on Fingering and DK weight bases. Preorders will ship on 6/7.
The Pride Collection currently contains 13 colorways, but there are many other Pride Flags to choose from! Help us choose the next colorway(s) to add at the form here, then stay tuned for a live dye-along when I create them!

Barn Owl is a beautiful golden straw color which complements many of our other Fully Spun colorways. It is pictured here on the 100% American Merino base which is a non-superwash base milled in North Carolina. This yarn base is fluffier than our SW DK and is perfect for a hat or cowl!

There are four new colorways available in the shop! They are a small collection of colorways inspired by Anita Baker. To me she is one of the top tier music artists in history, and I am excited to have been prompted to create yarn inspired by some of her runway and photoshoot looks. Each colorway, apart from Sweet Love, is available on Fingering, DK, and Aran weight bases. Sweet Love is available on Fingering weight. Swipe to see some other items from the update!

I've been moving slow this past few weeks, but moving nonetheless. I'm working on getting the last roving braided and photographed for this week's update. I love how the BFL takes dye in a more muted but equally beautiful tone. These are going to be fun to spin!
