BIOGRAPHY:
Kashvi Saxena was born to a perfectly upperclass family in Hampstead in London. She was the third and last child born after two older brothers who not only doted on their only sister but also pestered her to no extent. She was a studious young girl, finding freedom in books and allowing them to sweep her into the vast knowledge they provided. Her brothers had down the correct route of choosing their careers, one choosing to become a doctor and the other an engineer which left the third profession in the accepted trifecta to fall to her—becoming a lawyer.
Kashvi was not good at arguing or confrontation since a very young age. A part of that was due to having others speak for her. She was content always to hide in the shadows of her siblings and allow them to speak and choose for her.
It was only when she decided to choose a career that she first stood up to her parents for the first time. She would not be lawyer, nor would she choose the medical field or engineering like her parents wanted. Instead Kashvi opted to get her degree in the arts, a field that did not surprise her parents or herself. But she thrived, she enjoyed being able to write and read to her heart’s desire. She was so determined that this was the career path for her.
But while her academic future was looking bright, her personal life was doing even better. Because she met the love of her life, Pearce Callahan during this time. Pearce was older to her by five years, but all that seemed to fade away when they were together. She had been supportive of his move from the world of writing to psychology, not missing the joy it brought to him when he spoke about how much he wanted to help people. He truly swept her off her feet and as her first real relationship—it was everything Kashvi had ever dreamed of or read of in her books.
Pearce had been the perfect husband, allowing her to continue her courses the best she could but given how quickly they’d had their nuptials, much to the disapproval of her family—she felt like she needed to take a step back and try earning some money for their family instead.
It was during this time that she discovered her love of marketing. Kashvi had started small, helping local mom and pop shops put their name out there and drive in more business but slowly she began getting recognition for it and thus began her official career as a freelance marketing consultant.
Kashvi would help whoever she could in assisting them to have a bigger reach with their shops and brands and it was during this time that she met Ali Sharif again. Ali had been someone she’d known since she was a child. Apparently Ali’s grandparents and hers had been friends since they were young, living side by side and thus—their fathers too became friends and ultimately so did the kids. Of course Ali was closer to her brothers and while Kashvi had always admired him she’d never really thought much of it.
But upon his return to her life, a widower who was just staring his own coffee shop, Kashvi had felt those familiar flutters she’d recalled having when she was a mere teenager. Ali to his part had always been respectful with her and Kashvi had made it known from their initial meeting that she was married and living a good life with her husband despite his sometimes long hours. But she didn’t fault Pearce for that—how could she when he was doing all this for their future?
However Kashvi’s heart didn't listen to her head at all and she began developing real feelings for Ali through the course of all their professional interactions. Business meetings, turned into dinners. Events turned into private moments where they spoke for hours and hours.
Kashvi Callahan may not have crossed any physical lines with the man but given all the time she was spending with him—it was almost written in the stars that Pearce would begin to grow suspicious. But Kashvi fully defended herself, proclaiming to him over and over that nothing ever happen but after a few such incidents—clandestine moments that Kashvi should’ve stopped from happening…Pearce refused to believe her anymore.
He decided to officially hand her a divorce and given how futile she knew it was to fight with him once his mind was made up, she’d signed the papers and sent them off to his lawyer, not even bothering to retain a lawyer for herself.
This would prove to be her biggest mistake. She’d believed that the divorce would be appropriately handled on his end and never thought about checking the paperwork herself ever again.
Kashvi continued on in life, building up a good name for herself. Promoting different companies and brands through the years allowed her the chance to travel through Europe frequently as well and she was living what she’d call a charmed life.
But the charm came to a stop when she decided to use these skills she possessed and open her own businesses in London. She had found a beautiful bookshop and had been applying for the loan when all of a sudden the banker she was dealing with gave her the shocking news. ‘Upon pulling your credit Ms. Saxena, it looks like you’re still married. We could not find a divorce agreement in the database.’
Needless to say that she was absolutely shocked. It had been over ten years but in the UK there was no law that stated after a certain period of separation that a pair was legally divorced which was what had her finally seek him out. She’d tried reaching out to the lawyer he’d used when he’d sent her the papers but the individual had been no help.
And so that is what brings her to Wilmington, to find her ‘husband’ and officially get the divorce she thought she had gotten ten years ago.
