Pretty late to the party but coming back to tumblr to write some headcanons/rewrite concepts about the fourth descendants film because that's what I watched for Christmas
Spoilers under the cut!
In the opening scene, I'd rather have it that Red instead smuggles Wonderland people out to Auradon and that the Rabbit Hole wasn't the only "hole" to get in/out, or that it wasn't locked to begin with, with only The Red Queen barricading and forbidding anyone to go anywhere near it. This would've made her a noticeable rebel against her own mother, as the subjects continue to lessen and her power over people weakens, compared to just vandalizing portraits and going past curfew.
The near execution of the guard and the sequence up until the coup still remains like in the movie.
Red doesn't leave the Wonderland even though she has can due to the fact that she wanted her mother to let her go as Princess Red, not to run away as Rebel Red. She chooses to stay and try to get The Red Queen to change her ways (to no avail).
Now, to Chloe. Instead of being "goody-two-shoes", she may be a bit of a tomboy. She grew up with Chad's exaggerated retelling of the events of the past movies, thinking that her brother was some valiant hero who helped with unifying the Isle of the Lost to Auradon and aspires too much to be like him, a "knight".
When the coup happened, I like to extend the The Red Queen's abilities. With how she summons soldiers using her cards, she's also able to trap people inside of it, targeting Uma first as she's familiar with her powers due to being related to Uliana.
Chloe was also about to be carded for going after Cinderella but Red saved her in the nick of time by pressing the time machine, sending them both to the past.
Chloe is vehement on not changing history as it could have various effects into the future but Red argues that if they don't stop the event that would make The Red Queen like that, the future would be doomed nonetheless. They still fight over the time machine, and Chloe gets it, trying to use it back, only for Red to reveal that it only answers to her as she's the first one to use it or that a week is needed for it to be used again. Chloe keeps the watch like in the movie.
The scenes are the same until they meet their mothers' past selves. Bridget is the complete opposite of The Red Queen: cheerful, hardworking, and determined; and Ella is unlike the dignified Cinderella that Chloe knows, she's treated as a commoner and is rough is some areas.
It is revealed that Bridget likes to give gifts and treats to people but they always fail one way or another as she recounts some of them getting burnt or hexing the person, nonetheless, people still take them due to her genuineness.
The sequence until the end of the "Life Is Sweeter" is the same, and instead of Uliana scarfing down the flamingo feathers, she each gave the VKs with her one of it, like how Uma cares for her crew. Maleficent is the one to give back the plate to Bridget instead of Uliana just dropping it to Red, and then burns it with her breath, making Bridget drop it to the floor, with a few of her hair catching in fire.
Bridget assures Ella that it's fine and we get the same scene about hyping the Castlecoming. Red and Chloe goes to Ella's house to ask about potential people who might be out for Bridget and the two assumed that Uliana might be the one to do the prank solely because of Ella's testimony that she's a bully. The vase breaks and Ella's grounded.
Red and Chloe goes to the Black Lagoon and sees a pirate ship owned by Captain Hook, there they find out that Uliana plans on turning every student into eels during the Castlecoming, and needs an elaborate spell that requires a spell book. The two first went to Bridget for information and she reveals that the book might be in Merlin's office along with her practice dance for the Castlecoming and her secret surprise pastries for everyone. Red and Chloe argue about breaking in or not to steal the book first, and Chloe goes to Ella for advice. Instead of cleaning up the courtyard (I'd assume that the Evil Stepmom would not like a dirty one in the first place so it will always be clean), they go get ingredients for Bridget's cooking, still relating to "Get Your Hands Dirty" sequence, and Chloe decides to help Red.
While Morgie was sent as a look-out, it is because of his inherent magic that is nearly with par with Merlin, due to his mother being Morgana, preventing anyone from being able to get inside. He gets caught by the headmaster in the end.
The fight scene and the frozen VKs still remains but when Red and Chloe opened the book, Chloe notices something strange.
On the eve before the Castlecoming, Chloe confronts Ella about sabotaging Bridget's cooking. It turns out that the "ingredients" that the two gathered weren't just ingredients but can also be used for creating the "failures" that results from Bridget's creations. It wasn't Uliana that will change Bridget's life onwards on Castlecoming, it's Ella.
Ella reveals that when Bridget first transferred in Merlin Academy, she is a klutz and messed up her gifts at first, it was when Ella intervened that she got appreciated by people for the first time in her life. Since then, she tried "sabotaging" Bridget. At first, it was small mistake in measurements or giving Bridget the wrong ingredients, which results in another failure and Ella will come save the day, getting appreciation from her peers and keeping a friend (Bridget) by comforting her. Chloe persuades Ella to come clean and stop doing it to Bridget.
Chloe says that Bridget's treats might end up becoming failures again in the Castlecoming, confusing Ella as she doesn't know anything about it. Chloe informs Red about this and the three girls stops Bridget from setting up her surprise. While Ella doesn't reveal what she had done to Bridget, she does say that the ingredients she gave Bridget the day before were accidentally wrong.
The surprise pastries doesn't happen but the Castlecoming still goes as planned, with Red and Chloe joining in with a song and dance number. At the end of it, the watch regains its energy and Red and Chloe goes back home.
With the changed The Red Queen, it goes along with how the movie ended, but as Uma says that tampering with time has consequences, someone calls out to Red.
It's Charming, and he refers to her as his daughter.
Then a sequence of how the original timeline played out was seen, with Bridget continuing with her surprise and everyone ended up becoming Card Soldiers and attacked the others. Thinking that Bridget was starting a coup for Wonderland, everyone saw her as a monster. Ella freed Charming from being a soldier with True Love's Kiss and was hailed as a hero, while Bridget was sentenced for explosion for what happened.
Back to the present, Red and Chloe looked at each other as they realized that their interference with the past resulted in Red becoming Red Charming instead of Chloe; and when she asked Cinderella about her brother, Chloe backs away in horror upon the revelation that—
Chad Charming does not exist.
