i was just thinking about the time i was researching parallels between billy joel and roger waters for ā€œfunā€and most of the things they had in common were decidedly not ā€œfunā€ and actually very sad and traumatic so i had to abandon the project

billy joel's vienna (1977) is like the more comforting and reassuring cousin of pink floyd's time (1973) and i love them both! <3333

iā€™ve said it before and iā€™ll say it again but if david and roger had just listened to ā€˜a matter of trustā€™ and applied it to their situation they mightā€™ve stayed together never underestimate the power of billy joel

roger waters, david gilmour, and billy joel have got to be my favorite trifecta of men that write songs about the importance of communication and then donā€™t even follow their own fucking advice (affectionate)

omg the way david wrote a whole song about their lack of communication and how he and roger never seemed to be able to communicate in the healthy and constructive way that he clearly desired. šŸ˜« and david has said before how hard it was for him to put his feelings into words, i also recall in 'pigs may fly' that david was struggling to write his own lyrics.
he recounted that he had called up roger and asked him to please help him write the lyrics, but roger had pushed him to do it on his own and reach the potential he knew david had inside him. and similarly, david did the same for roger and encouraged him when he wss insecure about his voice and singing lead vocals on 'brain damage'. šŸ„ŗ
so when in 'keep talking' when he expresses how it felt impossible to break through the barrier, or the wall, that roger had built between them, that shit fucking really hit different. and also for all of roger's poignant lyrics about how imporant human connection and breaking down barriers is, he still didn't seem to be able to apply those sentiments to his real life. šŸ˜”
all this to say this is yet another time billy joel would have came in clutch and saved so much heartache. like why couldn't y'all just communicate? šŸ’” bc i truly believe that if david had just listened to 'tell her about it' and roger had listened to 'a matter of trust' or maybe even 'leave a tender moment alone' they could've worked it out!!!! like man i just know it!!!!

oh and also i truly believe that the discography of billy joel could have saved the relationship between roger waters and david gilmour and i stand by that!!!!! some of his hits such as ā€˜tell her about itā€™ and ā€˜a matter of trustā€™ just came out too late in the game and so now weā€™ll never know :(
