Vice President Kamala Harris’ push to rally voters in San José around support for reproductive rights ran headlong into protests Monday, demanding an immediate cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas War in Gaza.
At times, protest chants of “cease-fire now” broke out during the rally, interrupting Harris’ speech at least four times. Outside, dozens of protesters lined up along King Road and Alum Rock Avenue, waving signs outside Mexican Heritage Plaza.
[...]
The colliding forces at the Harris rally exposed a key election year challenge for Democrats: many of the younger, progressive voters who the party hopes to win over with a platform of protecting abortion rights are deeply dissatisfied with the Biden administration’s support of Israel.
Holding signs and banners bearing “Free Palestine” and “End U.S. Aid to Israel,” members from the Council on American-Islamic Relations joined a coalition of multi-faith, multiracial organizations with other supporters to demand a permanent cease-fire in Gaza. Allie Felker said she was invited to the Harris event for her work advocating for prenatal care to prevent stillbirths.
But less than three minutes into Harris’ on-stage conversation with actress and activist Sophia Bush, Felker stood up and joined in calls for a cease-fire. Felker told KQED she was motivated by the risks to pregnant women caused by the Israeli invasion. “I can’t come here and advocate for reproductive justice without also standing with Palestine, standing with the women and children of Gaza and saying that the reproductive justice we’re seeking in this country needs to also be equated with what’s happening in Gaza,” Felker told KQED.
[...]
...The ongoing war in Gaza has proven costly to the Biden administration among young voters. A Gallup poll from December found that 50% of Americans under 35 believe the U.S. is giving “too much” support to Israel — compared to 21% who believe the country is lending “too little” support to Israel. “So long as President Biden and Vice President Harris ignore that call [for a cease-fire], they are complicit in genocide, but they are also demonstrating their disconnect with the electorate,” said Zahra Billoo, executive director of CAIR’s San Francisco Bay Area office.

A reminder of the level of rhetoric that is issued from CAIR leadership. Billoo considers 90% of Jews genocidaires because Israel's existence, and our own right to self-determination as a people, is not something we will renounce. CAIR's connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, the same group that birthed Hamas, make it a very poor representative for America's Muslims. They should never have been granted the prominence they enjoy, one they use not to advocate for their coreligionists, but to divide Americans along sectarian lines.

To put it nicely, CAIR’s record on Jewish matters has been a source of controversy and tension. Zahra Billoo remained head of CAIR’s Bay Area chapter after a widely condemned speech last year in which she described Zionist Jewish groups as an “enemy” and urged suspicion and hostility not just toward out-and-out fascists, but “polite Zionists” as well. More recently, CAIR has come to the defense of a City University of New York Law School graduate who used her commencement speech as a chance to rip the university for its entirely imaginary training of Israeli soldiers and to connect her legal education to “the fight against capitalism, racism, imperialism and Zionism around the world.” CAIR’s top leadership, including co-founder and longtime Executive Director Nihad Awad, have a decadeslong history of statements in support of Hamas and religious warfare against Israel. The group opposed the U.S.’s deportation of Rasmea Odeh, who omitted her past conviction for a deadly terrorist attack in Israel from her U.S. immigration application. The Anti-Defamation League has maintained a constantly updated web page about CAIR’s various antisemitism-related uproars since 2015.
In a message circulated to Jewish groups in the week after the plan’s release, the White House stressed that “It’s factually incorrect to suggest [CAIR] are part of the strategy. They are not part of the strategy—there are zero mentions.” The group was merely “listed in a supplemental document as one of the many independent organizations making commitments to help counter antisemitism.”
When reached for comment, State Department Antisemitism Envoy Deborah Lipstadt repeatedly stressed that “CAIR had nothing to do with the preparation of the plan.” I suggested that even the ancillary mention of a group with CAIR’s history threatened to detract from the strategy’s potential strengths. “If you’re asking if it’s detracting, this conversation should be about the plan and the things it’s going to try to do,” she replied.

Cacao-Infused Tinupig: Crafting & Packaging Innovation
Tumblr media
Abstract
The study under the development of the packaging will determine the acceptability of the product to the market as well to the experimentation of adding cacao (Theobroma) to the Tinupig. Developing the packaging is the first step of the study where the researchers seek the advice of experts on how to make a presentable box that will represent Lasam’s best tinupig. Based on the study conducted by Ahmad & Billoo (2012), it is said that by making good packaging, it has a great influence on the consumer’s buying decision. The appearance of the product will decide whether the product will have more profit or not because it is a tool of self-promotion. The packaging has an important role in marketing. Tinupig plays a significant influence in encouraging or discouraging the purchase of other brands, particularly when the customer selects a similar type of product, because it is produced not only in Lasam but also in Pangasinan, Ilocos, and other regions of Luzon.

Introduction
Food tourism is simple, and there are no substantial discrepancies between the definitions supplied by various authors. Food tourism is commonly defined as "a visit to primary and secondary food producers, food festivals, restaurants and specific locations for which food tasting and/or experiencing the attributes of specialist food production regions are the primary motivating factors for travel” (Buhalis & Costa, (2006). To make it simpler, it can be stated that food tourism is traveling to other destinations to consume their food. But the researchers define food tourism as simply a matter of traveling beyond your immediate neighborhood to find great food. Of course, the further you are willing to travel, the broader your range of culinary experiences will be.
Lasam is very well known to tinupig as the traditional delicacies where rice is the major produce agricultural product. The food known as tinupig, which consists of crushed glutinous rice and coconut strips wrapped in banana leaves, is cooked on a hot stone that has been burnt by charcoal. According to the locals, the tinupig has high demand as pasalubong for OFW’s and to locals residing in Lasam. Tinupig is very important to Lasamenos (people in Lasam) because it is being celebrated as Tinupig Festival.
According to Bicarme (2012), in the year 2005, the Lasamenos set the record for having the longest run of tinupig for about 2.82km long. Tinupig was then loved and appreciated by many people and of their family outside Lasam. By then, Lasamenos celebrates the tinupig festival every year particularly in the month of May and made a great change to the town because visitors from outside the municipality come by and buy products of Lasam that greatly effects the economy of the municipality. According to vendors of tinupig, in typical months, they can make at least 150 boxes with the total of 3,000 pieces of tinupig and during festivals they can make four times the said quantity. Locals say they buy the iconic product not only for them but also for their family from abroad. The product is usually boxed in reused boxes of juice and has never changed since 2005. That's why the researchers conducted the study on how to improve and promote the iconic delicacy of the municipality. Food tourism can affect a community through exporting products from town to town, to cities, and to other countries. And the result will dramatically change the way of living of the people in that community because of the products they make. Rice trading in Cagayan is known throughout the nation. According to Philippine Statistic Authority (2004), With 118.7 thousand farms covering 175.5 thousand hectares, Cagayan came in second. This means that Cagayan is rich in resources when it comes to rice, therefore, the more resources a province has, the more profit the locals possess. The same principle will be applied to tinupig production in Lasam. Thus, researchers are finding new ways to promote and introduce the tinupig.
By innovating the packaging of the traditional tinupig, it will increase the demand of the product and can be sold outside in the town and will also affect the shelf life of the product, because the researchers will make two ways in making the packaging, particularly in the boxing and vacuum sealing. By making a presentable packaging, it will greatly affect the demand of the local product turning it more profitable than before.
The study under the development of the packaging will determine the acceptability of the product to the market as well to the experimentation of adding cacao (Theobroma) to the Tinupig. Developing the packaging is the first step of the study where the researchers seek the advice of experts on how to make a presentable box that will represent Lasam's best tinupig. Tinupig, which is produced not just in Lasam but also in Pangasinan, Ilocos, and other parts of Luzon, has a big impact on whether consumers pick one brand over another or, on occasion, are discouraged from doing so.
Under the experimentation of adding cacao, which is another product of the town, it will also act as an additional factor to health benefit. According to Marie, J., (2015) cacao beans have a rich natural antioxidant compound, and it contains a natural chemical such as a flavonoid, a type of antioxidant compound that promotes general health specifically it stabilizes and ultimately destroy free radicals in the cells and tissues. Thus, it might lower the risk of several diseases. Compared to the traditional tinupig, the researchers are hoping that the newly innovated tinupig will be the key to changing the way of preparing it.

A vocal anti-Israel activist, who has made several donations to Rep. Rashida Tlaib's, D-Mich., House campaigns, mourned the assassination of a top Hamas leader on Wednesday, saying his "martyrdom is not in vain."
Zahra Billoo, a disgraced former Women's March leader and the executive director of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in San Francisco, took to social media after it was reported that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, Iran, prompting Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to vow "revenge" for the attack.
"Never say that those martyred in the cause of Allah are dead—in fact, they are alive! But you do not perceive it," Billoo said in the first part of her post, appearing to quote the Quran.
"Tonight, we mourn Ismail himself but know his martyrdom is not in vain," she continued, using a controversial phrase pushed by anti-Israel activists to mean the elimination of Israel. "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free."

"I mourn yesterday’s martyrs because I can see the horrific path killing peace negotiators leads to," Billoo added in a follow-up X thread, accusing Israel of a "genocide."
Billoo's initial post immediately drew backlash from social media users, with some people mocking the Quran quote and saying the Hamas leader is definitely "not alive."
"Probably important to remember this, too, whenever you see the name CAIR," journalist Bari Weiss said.
Billoo, who has donated almost $1,000 to multiple Tlaib campaigns, has been a lightning rod of controversy in recent years over her anti-Israel rhetoric, which led to the left-wing Women's March board severing ties with her in 2019 after only serving two days. She posted a 25-post Twitter thread at the time blaming her ouster on an "Islamophobic smear campaign" and "right-wingers."
