THE MUPPET SERIES (2015) IS AN AMAZING HIDDEN GEM OF A SHOW THAT EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH.
Tumblr media
Hello! If you don't know, the muppets had a mockumentary style TV show that aired on ABC in 2015. I watched it, and boy did I love it. The premise of the show is simple. The Muppets have moved on from the classic Muppet Telethon that we all know and love. They now run a late night talk show with Ms Piggy as the host, Kermit as the producer, Fozzie Bear as the warm up comedian before the show, and Rizzo, Pepe, and Gonzo as the writers. All other Muppets have office jobs around the studio. The show wastes no time letting us know that Ms Piggy and Kermit have (somewhat recently) broken up, and seem to be over each other. Piggy is focused on her show while Kermit is focused on running the show and his new girlfriend. (Who is also a pig, funnily enough.) The mockumentary style of the show allows for us to explore the characters and how they really feel about the people around them and the situations they find themselves in, which is VERY important because this show dives deep into Piggy and Kermit's relationship.
Now, this show has more mature humor. A lot of the jokes aren't really meant for kids. They don't go so far as to cuss, but you get the point. That's important for this show because it really helps the muppets feel like actual adults. They have jobs, relationships, cars, taxes, the issue of deciding where to go for lunch, etc. At some points you forget that they're muppets until you get to a scene where Fozzie Bear is driving a car and you realize how ridiculous it looks. Seeing the muppets in these very real and relatable situations makes for good humor that genuinely made me laugh many times. None of it felt too cheesy or corny. Mostly because it really does feel like a group of coworkers becoming friends, who are trying to fulfill their dreams, relationships, and selves all at the same time. It's just… so much fun. Their the muppets… what more can I say?
Aside from humor, the friendships and relationship dynamics are another highlight of this show. There are just SO MANY that the writers did right. Deadly and Piggy's relationship was especially funny and sweet to me. They both compliment each other extremely well. While Deadly is the realistic, dramatic and brutally honest type, Piggy is the flamboyant, dramatic, and over the top celebrity that Deadly constantly has to watch over and take care of. However, he doesn't always seem to hate it. Deadly has a genuine love and care for Piggy that he won't always admit to. He constantly has her back and is taking care of her every need. It's his job, but I don't think he'd ever want to do it for any other celebrity. Piggy doesn't always see how much he does for her, but when she does, she appreciates it and returns the favor when she can. I'd go more into it but then this post would be too long. There's also Kermit and Piggy, whose relationship is the focus of the show. They both start the show off as their worst selves. Kermit is hyper focused on the show and often disregards his coworkers and his own needs. He's a lot more focused on the job than even his own girlfriend at times. He's not super egotistical or rude, but he could stand to think more of others and their feelings sometimes. Piggy is even more egotistical and self absorbed though. She throws huge fits, is rude to every single coworker, yells at everyone, and is only nice when things are going her way. As the show goes on however, they both start to open up to those around them, realizing that if they prioritize those who are truly important to them and try to work better as a team, their coworkers and their show will be better for it.
Eventually, we get around to Piggy and Kermit reevaluating their own relationship and the way they feel about each other. I won't spoil how that goes for them but the drama between them is really good. If you, dear reader, only knew how emotionally invested I got in a pig and frog getting romantically together, you might be concerned.
I don't want to make too long of a post. Everything you've read so far was a huge impulse to write down some of my thoughts on this show. It may have come off as a shock to some people since I usually just post about gacha games, but this is me letting you know that this show captivated my heart so much that I had to write about it. Anywhere. I lay in my bed, typing away on my phone, thinking about the Muppets, and listening to The Rainbow Connection while imploring you to watch this show because it made me feel the way art is supposed to make you feel. You don't usually expect to find so much value in a dramatic story about love and relationships in a show about anthropomorphic puppets running a late night talk show, but it just might happen to you if you watch it. I hope I was able to articulate myself in a way that showed how strongly I feel about this show. This really is just a bunch of word vomit that hasn't been edited or proofread. If you did read all of it though, thank you. Hope you give the show a chance one day. It is 12:02am, so I'm going to go to sleep. I'll leave you with a clip from the show that showcases the humor, and the way the characters interact all in one.
https://youtu.be/nU2Ec5_3E2s?si=w4LQ6cxU6ilzrUjL
If you happen to be a Disney executive reading this, by all means, bring this post up to your coworkers and higher ups. Let them know that at least one person somewhere out in the world, loved your show about silly little Muppets so much, that they would like a renewal even 6-8 years later. However, if you do, let them know that this person doesn't want ANYTHING like 'Muppets NOW!' I specifically want The Muppets (The Series 2015) renewed for a second season. Late night talk shows are still relevant and the muppets can still host one. Get Bill Prady and his team back. I want the same heart and passion that went into that first season. While you're at it, get a good voice actor for Kermit. I'm sure the Muppets Now VA was doing his best but you guys can hire someone with a better Kermit voice. If you can't do this, don't bother. The show didn't have too bad of an ending anyways.
If you happen to be Bill Prady, thank you for this show. It was a fun and awesome time. If you ever do anything with the muppets again, I'd be excited to see it.

the big bang theory
Type: Serial/Movie

Number of Season(s): 12
Running Years: 2007-2019
Creators: Chuck Lorre & Bill Prady

This show is insane. One of the best sitcoms out there. This is genius comedy. Nevertheless, I'd classify this show as an 'exclusive' show, in a sense that this show tends to be understood by certain groups of people. Those who understand academic settings, for example.

During one shoot, a famed physicist stopped by... and noticed something a little peculiar. "One day this super famous physicist was visiting," co-creator Bill Prady says. "We're doing the set tour we always give after taping because everyone wants to get their picture taken in Sheldon's spot."
During the tour, the physicist noticed one of the props in Leonard and Sheldon's apartment. Prady says, "People always ask what that thing on the wall post was, it was this wooden box that was actually an antique Geiger counter. The physicist looks at it and goes, 'That's an old Geiger counter.'" (A Geiger counter is a device used to detect radiation).
It turns out the Geiger counter was more than just a unique prop. "'You know,'" Prady remembers the scientist saying, "'those old Geiger counters often had a piece of uranium in them which was used to calibrate them, before people realized that's a stupid idea. I wonder if there's uranium in that.'"
As if it were a scene taken straight from a Big Bang episode, the scientist just so happened to have a working Geiger counter in the trunk of his car. "He went out and grabbed it," Prady says, "and came back in with it, and brought it over to the set and, of course, the thing starts going off and making noises. He opened [the prop] up and said, 'I'm going to put this in a lead box and take it away now,' and then he removed a piece of uranium from the Geiger counter and left!"

okay but tell me why every time Sheldon does something thats in coordinance with having autism / displays characteristics of autism and a laugh track plays right after I think “that’s not funny if that happened to me I’d react the same way”

Hello,
This is a bit random. I know The Big Bang Theory TV show is not everyone's favorite thing, but it is a comfort show for me and I've watched it through many, many times.
I wanted to tell you that you're guest spot in season 11 is one of my favorites. I just really enjoyed the humor and feel of it. They have had so many guests and some of the guest appearances feel as though they haven't aged nearly as well.
I don't know how much you were able to actually contribute to it, but either way, it seems like you were a good sport about it and had some fun.
Thanks!
I did. And I came up the 1602 stuff at the time, which was fun. I like Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady very much, and my daughter Maddy loved the show, so it was done as something to make all of them happy. (And they'd been asking for years by then, we just hadn't been able to make the timing work.)

I made a video calling out The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon for making Sheldon a wacky fascist in the context of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady considering themselves antifascists nobly standing up to the rise of real world fascism, unwillingly to critically examine their own storytelling choices.

Today I'm going to talk about Seymour lore! Because this is something that makes me insane. Whenever someone asks Pepe about what happened to Seymour after Muppets Tonight, Pepe gives a completely different explanation every single time. There's even a whole list of them on Muppet Wiki.
Are they all true? Are none of them true? I'm inclined to think that Pepe doesn't actually know and is just making stuff up whenever he's asked, but it could be anything. I put together as much as I could find about the list on the Wiki, and here it is, with my thoughts (cut because it got long):
The first instance was at MuppetFest in 2001, when an audience member asked Pepe about Seymour:
Tumblr media
(Hard disagree about Seymour not being as funny as Pepe btw, pretty much all my favorite moments in Muppets Tonight have Seymour delivering the punchline in some way.)
Then in 2008, while Pepe is promoting his book (in which he talks about Muppets Tonight but doesn't mention Seymour once), an interviewer asks him about Seymour, and Pepe says that Seymour was deported to India. (Which always struck me as an... un-Muppety choice? Not that the Muppets can't have dark or sad moments, but it's usually not in a real-world systemic injustice kind of way like that.)
Then this interview from 2011 (which I actually found myself and added to the Wiki):
Tumblr media
I have no idea what Pepe meant by "gondolier," since aren't those the people on gondolas in Venice? So I just assume he meant some kind of juggler? And "sidekick" is funny to me, since the Muppets Tonight style guide describes Pepe as the sidekick. Also shoutout to the reporter for implying that whatever happened might be too painful for Pepe to talk about, they know what's up.
I read Pepe's "I wonder if they're hiring" as a lowkey dig at the reporter, since he said they needed to get some hobbies (and apparently so do I). I don't think Pepe was asking for himself, since that doesn't sound like something he would say, but now I have the mental image of them performing in the circus together and Pepe himself being juggled. Which he deserves after some of these answers, honestly.
But I wish I had audio or video of some of these so I could at least hear his tone. Which brings me to the next interview, from 2012:
Tumblr media
I've searched everywhere for this video, and it seems to just simply not exist anymore. So this bullet point from the Wiki is all I have to go off of. I'm so curious what other details there might've been in the interview, especially since Pepe interviews tend to be unhinged.
And that same day in 2012, Pepe gave this answer in an AskPepe Q&A:
Excuse me while I clutch my heart at "I don't want to be alone." This, plus the 2011 interview where he said Seymour was the one who decided to go solo, is why I've never bought the idea that Pepe ditched him. (Not to mention it just doesn't make sense logistically, how can Pepe have ditched him when he's the one who stayed with the Muppets and Seymour was gone? And when you watch them in Muppets Tonight, Pepe phrases everything as "we" and always talks about them like they're a team. BUT I DIGRESS.)
In 2014, the Muppets Character Encyclopedia came out, saying that Seymour returned to the elevator business (I love everything about his page, there's been so little info about him so I cling to anything we can get):
Tumblr media
Then in 2015, Pepe made the coldest tweet of his life:
Tumblr media
Though he did later say that he remembers him.
And finally, the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, when Pepe was asked about Seymour during a panel for the upcoming Muppets ABC series:
The "elephant farm" guy is Bill Prady, writer for the ABC sitcom (and inspiration for Chip). Bear in mind that Bill Prady also tried to make Sam/Janice a thing, so if we as a fandom can collectively disregard that, I'm going to go ahead and disregard what he says here too. There's no way I'm going to accept Seymour being dead as canon.
But that's the most recent answer we've gotten. Pepe has tweeted a couple times since then that he isn't sure where Seymour is, and I don't know if we'll be hearing about any more random Seymour adventures in the future, but I hope this isn't it!
Idk, I just wish we were given something more than this. I know characters get dropped all the time, but I can't think of any other instance in the Muppets where two characters debut as a duo and are portrayed as totally joined at the hip, then one just disappears and is literally never seen again, not even in the background, barely even mentioned unless someone asks, while the other goes on to be huge enough to be part of the main cast. Muppets Tonight is such an interesting part of Pepe's arc - it's so fun to see him hungry for fame before he gets it, uncool before he was too cool - and Seymour is an undeniable part of his story. So it just kinda makes me sad how he's been treated since, I guess. Or I just have too many feelings about a fictional elephant who hasn't been seen since 1997.
