Skies flashing with each breath pulsing with that blissful runner's high running for peace - running for fun finish line in sight; another flash of light this one comes with a gush of heat the sky flashes, this time in concussion a symphony of shattered air spins the world around The next thing to tear the air that surrounds is the rising sea of disbelieving cries - a sound that comes with waves of pain as flesh meets ground The world around strobes, this time in pain with millions of shell-shocked neurons sending distorted cries throughout the brain Chaos on the sidewalk, a warzone in an instant as shaky hands find quaking asphalt and push. The second wave of distorted air does this attempt great disrepair as screams tear again through this cloudless sky. Standing again, staring at the finish line Seventy eight years back from the verge of vanishing and jogging towards that swinging, bloodstained banner to finish what he started; a marathon for peace.

Bill Iffrig (78) was blown over by the Boston bomb blast. He got up, dusted himself off and finished the race. His actions are a metaphor for us all. No matter what happens to us, no matter what knocks us over, we have to get up, dust ourselves off, and finish this marathon called Life.

I was just approaching the last straightaways of the finish line and I had a good day -- I was feeling really good. And I got down to about 15 feet of the finishing apron then just (a) tremendous explosion -- sounded like a bomb went off right next to me. And shock waves just hit my whole body and my legs just started jittering around. I knew I was going down, and so I ended up down on the blacktop. And I didn't feel any severe pain, and as I rolled over, I'd seen a little scratch on my leg, but nothing too bad. So I laid there, just momentarily. One of the finisher assistants come over, and talked to me, and asked me if there's anything to do, and offered to give me a hand, help me get up, help me get over the finish line and finishing my race.

He adds that he declined a wheelchair to transport him from the scene, choosing to walk back to his hotel six blocks away.
