The Unit MBTI - Raehwan MBTI
Tumblr media
Raehwan (BIGSTAR) – ENFJ
Cognitive Functional Stack – Fe Ni Se Ti
Raehwan is known as the mother of Bigstar, and continues in this vein on The Unit, showcasing his dominant Fe.  He cares deeply for other people, sometimes almost regarding his own needs as an afterthought or luxury to be dealt with later, as a reward for sorting other people out first.  His motherly nature means that he is often found giving purposeful skinship, such as an arm around someone, or a pat on the back.
Raehwan is a very emotional person (Fe).  He is easily moved to tears in a variety of situations, and for a variety of reasons.  We see this often when the camera focuses on him during the show.  He readily admits that he is one of the first to cry, and likens himself to a champion in that matter, and regularly states emotions such as, “I was really upset”.  ENFJs, with Fe as their primary function, need to be able to express their emotions outwardly in order to be able to deal with them.  Only then can they move on from them.  Raehwan clearly knows this about himself since after becoming upset about something, he then clarified, “I’m sensitive but rational – I overcome things quickly”, showing a strong use of his entire functional stack.   He is also expressive with his love, regularly commenting, “I love …”, showing he is generous with his love and emotion.  He cares deeply about his fans.
He values the emotional input of other people, such as when Jun Q sends him a heartfelt message hoping that he overcomes his difficulties and feels better soon etc, etc.  Raehwan cares deeply about what other people think of him and who shows him kindness, which was clear when he reposted the message that Jun Q sent to him.  He also cares deeply, and remembers things that other people say to or about him. For instance, when Hwang Chiyeol praises his style when they have their session on “My Story”, he is overcome and moans/screams about it later on when the team return for practise.  He’d expected Chiyeol to be negative about him (a pre-conceived notion developed by his Ni and dodgy inferior Ti logic) but was over the moon when he was given praise instead.
He shows fantastic leadership qualities and kindness, which other contestants remark upon.  Giseok and Gunwoo both reckon that he practices the hardest out of all the performers, Gunwoo even commenting that he “works hard and sleeps hard” – Raehwan doesn’t do anything by half measures (Ni-Se). However, this means he is sometimes less concerned with material things in life (Ni), such as eating his meals properly – Seyong the sensor has to encourage him to eat properly – and Raehwan ends up losing weight without trying to over the duration of the program.
As a user of both Fe and Ni, he is apt at discerning other people’s emotive states.  This becomes clear when during the practices for 4th mission, Raehwan takes notice of Kijoong’s emotional state, and works out that he’s about to cry before Kijoong even knows it himself!!!!  He’s guided by his caring nature for others (Fe) and his intuitive knowledge-gathering (Ni) of the current situation (Se).  He ascertains correctly the exact reasons for Kijoong’s sadness, and then spends the rest of the mission time helping him to rectify the problem through individual practise and morale encouragement.  This is Fe’s nature of wanting to deal with and rectify a situation rather than just gloss over it and try to move on.  He’s always there, giving Kijoong a little boost, a little bit of mentoring here and there, and a little bit of support, like when in their evaluation with Chiyeol he gave him a small signal that he’d done well. He knew that this would mean everything to Kijoong, and Kijoong even mentions that Raehwan is the first person in several months who’s made him feel positive about his singing again.  His kindness is truly altruistic.
Raehwan’s Ni is also observed singularly in that he states, when worrying about if he can continue as a member of Bigstar or an idol in general, that he “doesn’t know what else he would do” apart from singing.  His Ni has this single-minded “destiny”, so to speak, and Raehwan can’t conceive of anything else, for now.  However, when Kijoong, after the My Story performance, tells Raehwan that it won’t be his last performance, you can see from his face that Raehwan is taking his words with a pinch of salt. Raehwan only withholds from disagreeing with Kijoong because he can see it would hurt Kijoong if he were to nullify his words of kindness and encouragement (Fe).
I hope that Raehwan does manage to find some success in the future as a singer, because as Chiyeol says, he does have a certain “groove”.  He is also a kind and caring ENFJ who deserves happiness and love for the future.

The Unit MBTI - Feeldog MBTI
Tumblr media
Feeldog (BIGSTAR) – ESFJ
Cognitive Functional Stack:  Fe Si Ne Ti
Feeldog is such a gem and a pleasure of a person to watch, as well as be with, from what I can gather.  All his actions are channelled through his incredibly strong Fe.  He’s extremely kind and compassionate to all around him but doesn’t blow his own trumpet about it in any way.  He uses his Fe to be in total harmony with whichever group he’s working with and he’s one of the most valued competitors in the competition, by audience and peers alike.  Yet he stays humble.
He wants to resolve any issues as soon as they arise, bringing discussion neatly and carefully into the open so everything can be ironed out (Fe-dom).  He’s a total cute father-figure to everyone in the group and can easily switch from cute to badass or anything inbetween depending on what’s needed of him.  This is the essence of his performance and how it’s determined by Fe – everything he does, every move he makes, is calculated carefully (SiTi) to create the best possible form of enjoyment from his audience, who he cares about deeply (Fe). He’s family orientated since he thanks his parents (FeSi) and shows that in the way he looks after the younger contestants too.  He gets easily choked up talking about his family, as seen in the second results stage, when he’s asked to say a message to them.
Feeldog’s Fe empathy can be observed in his friendship with Hansol.  Hansol was so excited to make friends with him that he talked throughout the night – Hansol just continuously asking questions – and the fact that Feeldog didn’t shut him down so they could get some sleep shows that he cared about Hansol’s curiosity and wishes (a Fi/Te user would have “known what’s best for them” and enforced sleep).  We also find out that Hansol is so timid in front of the commentary interview cameras that Feeldog goes in with him to talk and loosen him up a bit – sacrificing his own time so that his friend can have some good screen time. Dom Fe Fe FE!!!!
When Jungha was still injured for the “You’re Mine” performance, Feeldog wasted no time in rearranging the dance so that he could still be sensitively included.  When Rokhyun told him that Jungha could still be in the cast for the performance, Feeldog showed concern and threw no judgement or scorn or exasperation on Jungha.   He was perfectly patient.  Then when it transpired that Jungha’s injury was worse than previously thought, Feeldog showed nothing but concern for Jungha.  He even said, “I can feel that he feels sad,” which is the most direct use of dominant Fe that I’ve seen from anyone in the competition.
However, his Fe also means that he cares deeply what other people think of him (this is one of the reasons why he was so delighted to be picked early for the team grouping exercise for 4th mission).  He particularly doesn’t appreciate comments regarding his height!
His Si is apparent in how he mentions his past with BIGSTAR, and it clearly shapes the way he acts. However, he isn’t hugely vocal about it. Nonetheless, he values some of the golden oldies from the group greatly, like Rokhyun, and Lee Geon.  Notice how cutely excited he was when Rokhyun picked him for his 4th mission team.  He was like a baby!!
He has also used his Si to help him become one of the best dancers – he has a fantastic memory for moves, and in conjunction with a crowd-orientated Fe, his moves are clearly perfected and completely entrancing.
His Ne mainly appears in the form of him worrying about what other teams are doing and/or wondering about them.  He can also use the quick-thinking combination of Ne with his other functions to make witty remarks, such as when Chan is apologising for his short legs, and Feeldog shouts out, “it’s ok, it’s ok” – a comment that is both witty and amusing, because of who says it, but also kind and comforting, demonstrating his Fe.
His inferior Ti means that he doesn’t question anyone’s decisions, just simply gets on with them and works to make the absolute best out of what he’s got. Fe-Ti gived him good leadership qualities when he’s the leader or dance instructor, and he responds well to having to take on responsibility.
Overall, Feeldog demonstrates bucketfuls of Fe, and a smattering of enough of the other functions to be sure he’s an ESFJ.  I would expect a lot of people to misinterpret him as an ESFP because he’s such a performer, but as I’ve shown above, the motives behind that performance show more clearly that he’s such a great performer because of hard practice (Si) and empathy for his audience (Fe).

The Unit MTBI - Daewon MBTI
Tumblr media
Daewon (Madtown) – ENFJ
Cognitive Functional Stack – Fe Ni Se Ti
ENFJs are loyal, helpful, kind, compassionate, and group-orientated people, which is a relatively succinct and accurate description of Daewon.  Throughout the series we can see his extreme (although not always perfect) use of his dominant Fe.
Something that is clear with Fe users is how they respond to praise.  Praise from other people means the world to Daewon and it’s what makes him feel validated (Fe).  Unlike Fi users who are often less reliant or dependent on this praise, Daewon needs it to survive.  This is why he is so affected by Lee Geon having 6 boots but only having 1 boot himself and reads too much into how Lee Geon feels about this himself.  (Daewon assumes that Lee Geon must regard himself as superior to Daewon when in fact all Lee Geon cares about is that they both got through.)
However, the fact that he regards praise as being so important is shown in how he treats other people.  When he takes the MAS band members under his wing to teach them how to dance (altruism since it could lead to him missing the opportunity to be in a group that could win first mission – Fe) he praises them for every little thing, saying, “I believe words of encouragement work wonders” (Fe-Ni).  He’s also quick to share any praise that he’s given, always confirming that the rest of the group worked hard too.  “I love my team”.  ENFJs are good at making people comfortable, which MAS clearly felt under his guidance. Shy Giseok stated that Daewon was the first person he felt able to grow close to.
Daewon is known as the “angel” of the unit due to his altruistic and extremely polite nature. This is a result of his dominant Fe. ENFJs are types that are known for wanting to try to “save the world”.  Sometimes they get caught up in their good deeds and can get a sort of saviour-complex which makes them blind to decisions that they think they make in everyone’s best interest but actually aren’t.  Daewon sometimes verges on this trait, for instance when he calls out Lee Geon into the boxing ring.
As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, Daewon is quite naïve in how he does this.  If he truly desired for both of them to make it into the final lineup, he should have used that extra screentime much more carefully. However, he suffered from a lack of planning (inferior Ti) and didn’t realise how TV shows edit to portray the maximum amount of drama possible (underdeveloped Ni-Se).  He acted in haste (Se) because his feelings were simply ready to burst out (Fe) due to how hurt he’d been.
In spite of being friends for the majority of their lives, Daewon and Lee Geon’s functional stacks couldn’t really be more different.  Their friendship is based entirely on loyalty, companionship, and shared interests in things such as music and sport.  Their minds won’t connect in an implied understanding of each other through shared functional traits but rather only through familiarity of knowing what the other is like.  Their cognitive functional stacks are completely different;  Daewon is a Feeler, Geon a Thinker;  Daewon is an Intuitor, Geon is a Sensor.  None of their lower functions overlap with the other’s either.  They simply don’t really understand what’s going through the other’s mind and this led to their clash in the boxing ring.  However, Lee Geon, having Si and Ne, was more pre-disposed to be able to see what potential outcomes of this interaction would be for them and therefore took the opportunity not to say anything.  Meanwhile Daewon’s limited Ni thought that the future would be bright as long as they made up and then carried on working hard (Ni-Se).  He didn’t realise that viewers would remember this encounter and hold it against Lee Geon, even after they’ve made up (no Si-Ne axis).  Daewon should have used his Fe to be able to feel this from other people but I think that at that point he was so used up from his own feelings that he was blinded to other people’s feelings and how he should have interpreted them.
Daewon is inclined to look towards the future rather than the past (Ni), always talking about how he wants to walk “flower paths” in the future, with his friends (Fe).  However, he also makes connections that other people don’t, and “says random things at random times”.  Seyong thinks he’s one of the most “4D” people in the competition (Ni). It’s a kind of obliviousness to the current setting (inferior Se).
Inferior Ti can mean that in stressful situations, an ENFJ is caught up with asking questions like “why is this happening to me??” rather than actually working towards relieving the stress in a meaningful way.  Daewon sometimes gets a bit like this, notably when he experiences stress related to friendships such as his friendship with Lee Geon.  He is simply concerned with the “why doesn’t he like me?? Why isn’t he talking to me?  Why is this happening to me?” questions rather than focusing on how he can work on being friends with Lee Geon again, or actually considering the reasons behind Lee Geon’s recent decisions (which I’ve explained on the Lee Geon post).
Daewon is slightly immature for his age, but not drastically so.  This can be explained away somewhat by the tough conditions that he’s had to go through to get where he is, from living on the floor by candlelight in some empty office spaces, to having the burden of leading his best friend into a failing company.
His altruism is what makes the main part of his personality, almost consumingly so.  He almost uses it as a means of proving that he still has self worth after a difficult journey through life to where he is now.  This is proven when the Kingsman team are doing their introductions, and when it’s Daewon’s turn, Seyong simply says that he should just introduce himself as an angel from heaven.  Daewon obviously likes this because it’s validation for him that he is a Good Person, which is what he’s aiming to be in life.
Ultimately other people’s opinion of him is what feeds Daewon, and none more so than Lee Geon’s opinion, which means so much to him.  He loves his teams, and they love him in return.  He shows love for his fellow competitors by promoting their songs (said he was listening to Bigstar/IM/Snuper).  He enjoys receiving help and advice from other people and giving the same in return.  He’s on the same wavelength as fellow ENFJ Euijin for their choreography (mentioned 4th mission) and he tries his best to be kind and fair to others, saying, when asked for whom his rival was, “I do not know about rivals”.  As Hwang Chiyeol said, those who lower their head will be able to raise it later, and this is precisely what happened with Daewon. From one boot to the final lineup, he’s the member of UNB with the lowest original boot score.
Let’s hope that Daewon can walk on many flower paths to come.

OH my gosh, how amazing!!  What validation!
You all can watch his video here, although it’s not Eng subbed or anything, it’s still obvious he got ENFJ, and appreciates a lot of the description as being accurate.
