Most people wait for the year to be over and restart on New Year’s. I do mine on my birthday. Every year, I set a “life theme”. I’d focus on one word how I want my life to be, on how I’m going to live. It’s the precedent on all my choices, may it be big or small. This year, I chose the word “ready”. I was ready to forgive mostly myself. The self-loathing I used to hold on to, I threw it out. I was ready to completely let go of people, of habits and of situations which no longer serve me. There’s no room for trash here. I was ready to change my self-destructive patterns. I have a lot and I loved giving myself a hard time. I even got ready for all the bullshit I know I will have to deal with and all the difficult people I will have to come across. I’m sure they won’t just disappear. I want to believe I’m ready for them and so I become what I believe. I was just soooo soooo ready. But then by the time I was ready I also forgot to pause. Now I’m teaching myself how. To breathe, to pause, to relax oh and my favorite? To find my center. 23 taught me how to be brave and taught me that no matter how prepared you are, things will continue to change for sure.
