There is nothing more than the love I have for drumming and Florida State University. I have found the perfect school after trying two other before finding where I truly belong. I haven't met a family outside my blood relatives that mean as much as my big 8 family. Yeah, sometimes I don't want to wake up at 5 am for game day rehearsals or have preseason training when it's 106 degrees outside, but i wouldn't trade a single minute that I've experienced. This picture was taken by my incredibly talented band director Dr. Dunnigan. I remember him asking my name my rookie year because so many people were asking who I was. I managed to snag a spot on big 8 as the only female on a drum way back in 2009... That year was really rough for me and I needed to focus and find myself before being able to return, but for those two years I was away I couldn't stop thinking about big 8 and what I needed to do to get back there. I worked almost full time (38 hours managing a KFC) and nearly had a 3.8 GPA.... All while drumming for a military college just to keep those chops up. I returned for the 2012 season... I was welcomed back with open arms by everyone there. I barely knew a handful of people on the line, but it didn't matter. I was family to them then and I'm family to them now. I plan to return for at least another year, but I want to try to march for 5. We will see what happens. "Big 8 section marching down the field.."
