Stoking the Flame
Tumblr media
Summary: Jenny and Beau have been ignoring the spark between them for a long time. How much longer can they continue?
Pairings: Beau Arlen x Jenny Hoyt
Warnings/Explicit 18+: Light smut, kissing, groping, implied smut.
Word Count: 727
A/N: So, I was unhappy that we didn't even get a Beau/Jenny kiss in the finale. Then I read THIS interview with Jensen, where he says:
Jensen: [Laughs] Or would you have rather seen, like, boom, kiss, and the bedroom door flies open, and we’re just hungrily attacking each other, and we fall onto the bed, boom credits?
... ... ...
Maybe it’s now time to drop those walls down and start opening up to this person — which we know when you do that, that just leads to more things. So I think had there been 15 more minutes of the episode, we probably would’ve seen Beau leaving the next morning.
And I knew immediately that I had to try and give us what might have happened in those 15 minutes at least. 🥵🫠
So, here goes. ❤️ I threw this together kinda quick, cause I wanted to get it out there while the finale was still fresh in people's minds. So sorry for any glaring mistakes. ❤️😊

Beau slid his big hand over the rounded bend of Jenny's knee, and she felt an electric buzz of pleasure begin emanating from where his palm and long fingers warmed her skin through the denim she wore.
He looked into her eyes again as she slid her hand over his where it rested on her knee. In his eyes she could see the same warmth and glimpse of desire that she'd seen from him before.
It had been there from day one.
Under the cover of antagonism and teasing, behind the barriers of obligations and professionalism, there had burned the embers of a fire she knew would quickly flare to life if they ever dared to stoke the flames for even a moment.
Beau broke their locked gaze, as he usually did, looking away into the fire. But he squeezed her knee gently, letting her know without words that he wasn't pulling away completely.
She leaned into him a little closer and laid her head on his wide shoulder, his jacket slightly rough beneath her cheek. He kissed the top of her head before resting his cheek against it.
They stayed that way for a while, knowing that they could continue on like this, simply giving each other comfort and staring into the flames; they wouldn't be going any further, they wouldn't be risking anything, they could still make believe they were just partners, just friends.
They could stay like this and stay safe.
But as though by silent, simultaneous agreement they pulled out of the easy embrace, turning to look at one another. Their gazes connected again and Jenny knew Beau wasn't leaving tonight.
She knew it before she watched his eyes slide down to her mouth. She knew it before her tongue flicked out to moisten her suddenly parched lips.
And sure enough Beau raised his hand to her cheek as he had once before, pushing a lock of her long blonde hair behind her ear.
His voice was deep and rich, his light Texan drawl thickening slightly as he spoke quietly.
"I can go, if you want."
Jenny was shaking her head before he'd even finished his sentence, reaching up to brush her fingertips across the mouth that had thoroughly distracted her on more than one occasion.
"No, stay." She said simply. If she said anything more she was afraid the words would scare away her daring. So she simply leaned forward, grasping the lapels of his jacket. She parted her lips slightly in invitation and Beau wasted no more time, settling his mouth against hers gently.
His lips slotted around her top lip, sucking delicately. The light tug cause a soft moan to fall from Jenny's throat which brought on a much rougher answering groan from Beau.
And just like that the fire between them was raging as she had always known it would - Beau plunging his hands into her hair, Jenny pushing the jacket from his shoulders, him tilting her head to the angle he wanted so he could sweep his tongue deep into her mouth, tasting her completely.
Their hands were in a flurry, tugging at clothes, desperate to feel each other's skin.
Beau got his hand up under the hem of Jenny's shirt, and squeezed her waist, dimpling her flesh with hard fingers.
Jenny had the buttons open on Beau's shirt in mere seconds, ripping at a few of the stubborn ones. She slid her hands over his wide chest before running her nails down his torso. He shivered slightly and grunted into her open mouth and Jenny felt her core muscles clench at the sound.
She grinned slightly against Beau's lips, as they both paused in their desperate groping, having finally made contact with bare skin.
"I don't know about you," Jenny whispered, her voice low and slightly shaky, "But I've thought about this quite a bit, and a rushed, desperate, quickie on the couch isn't really what I had pictured."
Beau chuckled softly and the sound was warm, welcoming and sexy as hell. "No, I definitely had something slower in mind."
The heated anticipation in his words had Jenny jumping up and tugging him roughly to his feet.
"Then let me show you the rest of my place, Sheriff."

Currently plodding though Season 2 of Big Sky, just so that I can get to Season 3.
Tumblr media
~MINOR SPOILERS ALERT~
Season 1 started off fine but got a bit lost mid-season, where bleach don't smell and odd choices abound.
Thoughts on Season 2 so far: – Lots of beautiful people and scenes. – Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas is a definite bright spot. Talk about foreshadowing. – Ren Bhullar (Janina Gavankar) is a fun addition to the show. – Were the kids inspired by Stranger Things (and its popularity)? Not sure they work here. – How many times can a law enforcement officer go to an undercover cop's motel room or meet up with him in broad daylight without breaking his cover?? – Don't even know where to begin with Ronald's storyline. 🤦
Overall, an entertaining series marred by major plot holes and some questionable procedures.
Sigh... the stuff I'll watch for this guy...

Big Sky S3 E12
Omg! This episode!!
Tumblr media
First of all, Jensen killed it in this episode. The way he's so worried about Emily in the beginning, calling her to check in, as though he can just feel the spectre of something bad coming. You can see it in his eyes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then his desperation when he finds out she's gone:
Tumblr media
Every moment is played perfectly. As always.
I can appreciate that Avery probably does think he loves Emily, but when you truly love a child with your entire soul, you'd never CONSIDER getting them mixed up in something so shady just to save your own, embezzling ass.
And while I'm sure he really doesn't want anything to happen to her, he's still acting like a fucking moron, who thinks he has any idea what he's doing, exactly as Beau says:
Tumblr media
He agrees to listen to what Beau says, follow his instructions,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then he brings in a gun without telling him! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
Such an idiot. I think he's dead (though he may have been wearing a vest.) and I can not be sad about it.
And then, we find out that Buck had them all the time!! 😯😯 Why? How and why did he take them? I mean, obviously he's psychotic, but I'm curious why he chose Emily and Denise!
Oh my poor babies in the back of that truck! 😭 Emily's screams actually made me tear up, she's so terrified.😭
Now, I'd like to close by showcasing, once again, my "today reason" for hating Carla.
So, she KNOWS people are likely out to get her and/or Emily. Then she sees and confronts some weirdo who's following her, and yet, she doesn't think to call Emily that very second to even to check in? Like, at that point, I'd be immediately driving over there, calling Beau from the road to get him to meet us, and not letting my daughter out of my sight.
Like, as SOON as Beau hears someone's following Carla, he's like, "Where's Em?" Because he's an incredible Dad. Meanwhile Carla runs to Beau in person, cause she's scared and wants the man she walked away from to protect her. When if she was any kind of mother, she would have just called him on her way to protect her child - but she is JUST that self-centered. 😤😤
Sorry, it's just that, if I haven't been clear, #i hate carla. 😠
Anyway, this was a great episode, even if it does still feel like they have way too much story to wrap up in one episode next week!!
Lastly, as an end to my post I'd like to present you with the staggering beauty of Beau Arlen!
Tumblr media
Look at these fucking thighs!! JFC!! 😭😭

Um...
Jensen: Probably, right? [Laughs] Or would you have rather seen, like, boom, kiss, and the bedroom door flies open, and we’re just hungrily attacking each other, and we fall onto the bed, boom credits?
Yes, Jensen - that is EXACTLY what I would have rather seen!! (But a slower move to the credits too!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can I also say that I'm heartbroken grateful that this is a print interview and not recorded? Listening to him give that description in his deep, sexy, smooth af, Godiva-chocolate voice, would have just ended me.
Also, he said this:
Jensen: So I think had there been 15 more minutes of the episode, we probably would’ve seen Beau leaving the next morning.
Fuck. Me.
Tumblr media
*gathers things and leaves to hunt down the creators of Big Sky and demand the "15 more minutes".*
Jensen Ackles Likes Where ‘Big Sky’ Season 3 Finale Left Beau & Jenny
I have to say how seamlessly Beau has fit into the world of Big Sky since his introduction last season.
Jensen Ackles: It’s never easy coming onto an established show and trying to find your footing. I came in [the] third season on The Boys; now I’m coming in third season on Big Sky. I’m just like, OK, here we go again. It’s like the new kid at school. But everybody was very welcoming. Everybody was very gracious, and yeah, they gave me a character I thought filled maybe a little bit of a void in what we were seeing in the show. I just tried to hit those notes and bring a little levity to what is essentially a pretty grim basis for a show, which is just murder mystery constantly. But it’s good to layer in some of the lighter moments. I think it just gives the show and the storyline some complexity that makes it makes it more entertaining.
At the beginning of the season, you joked with Elwood Reid about when you would go all Liam Neeson, and you certainly got to do that in these last two episodes with Avery (Henry Ian Cusick), Sunny, and Buck to save Emily.
Yeah, I feel like that might have been a little prophetic for me. [Laughs] I think I said it, and I willed it to happen, and Elwood was like, “look, man, it was your fault; you said it.” I was happy with the way it ended up. I kind of figured that that was where we were going, and I was looking forward to getting to show a different side of Beau and get to play that less happy-go-lucky, good ol’ boy and more of just a father in absolute misery and fury.
At the end of the season, Beau is kind of torn between moving back to Houston with Emily and Carla (Angelique Cabral) and facing his ghosts there and maybe staying and looking forward. Do you think he has any idea what he wants to do?
I don’t know. The show leaves Beau, I think, in a real contemplative state. I think that he has a strong desire to reconnect with his ex-wife. I think he still does love her. Obviously, he wants to be in as close proximity to his daughter as possible. That’s very enticing for reconnecting with his ex-wife as well. But then, at the same time, does that just lead to the same place that ended up breaking them up in the first place? And is this new role and a new place with new faces and new friends a fresh start for him that he needs to kind of move past what he was coming from in Houston? I think it sets up those questions in a great way. Whether or not we’ll answer them that’s not up to me.
How does Beau feel about Jenny? I kept expecting something to happen in that final scene…
Yeah. In my opinion, that’s just good TV. Leave the audience wanting more is something that I’ve heard many, many times, and I think it’s just a formula that works. And I think we gave just a little bit of what some of the audience was hoping for. There was a moment there, and there was a connection there, and there were clearly sparks. But do we need to play it out in a graphic sex scene? I don’t know. That’s for the streamers. We’re still doing broadcast TV here, still trying to keep it a little friendly.
Kisses do tend to happen in finales…
Let me ask you this, would it have been even worse had we started leaning towards the kiss and they cut the credits?
Probably.
Probably, right? [Laughs] Or would you have rather seen, like, boom, kiss, and the bedroom door flies open, and we’re just hungrily attacking each other, and we fall onto the bed, boom credits?
I was expecting to be left with the question of whether they would even go further than a kiss and cross that line.
Yeah, absolutely. I think that was that moment. A kiss wasn’t necessarily needed for the moment of, “OK, the walls have just come down. The lines are certainly being crossed, but let’s not jump across the line. Let’s tiptoe for now until we figure out what this is.” I thought that was a nice way of doing it in a way that wasn’t scratching that itch that everybody wanted to scratch so much, you know what I mean? I appreciated it, but I could also see why people were like, “Oh, come on, give us the goods.”
Is he ready to open up to Jenny about his ghosts? He says after a few more beers, but that’s different from being ready.
That was just like; I’m not ready yet. I’ve got to warm up to that. As I would know, a way for a Texas guy to say that is, “well, I’m gonna need a few more beers before I get into all that,” which is just, “I need to be a little bit more comfortable. I need to know how I’m gonna phrase it, how I’m gonna say it. Because you start to think about how you’re gonna react and how I’m gonna feel, and do I really want to open up that Pandora’s box with this person who I work with on a daily basis? I’m gonna have to see her on Monday. Is this something that now it’s gonna be awkward?” So there’s, I think, a lot of questions in that moment, which fired it up in a way that that made it not so sexual. It made it like two humans really, truly connecting. It wasn’t just like, oh, let’s rip each other’s clothes off. It’s like, oh, let’s strip away the walls that we’ve been hiding behind all season, and let’s maybe get to an emotional point here with each other that could certainly then lead to intimacy.
Katheryn and I talked about it. We talked about that a lot more than I think normal. She and I usually come in guns blazing, we’re ready to go, and we can hit those script notes and do our job. But this scene took a little bit more kind of ironing out just from the emotional standpoint where we wanted to land and how we wanted it to go from A to B and B to C. And I thought it was a deeper, richer way of going about it in the fact that it was less just, oh, here’s two adults that are attracted to each other, and so let’s start making out and head of the bedroom, and more about, this is a friend who clearly there’s chemistry there, and she wants to know about my backstory. Maybe it’s now time to drop those walls down and start opening up to this person — which we know when you do that, that just leads to more things. So I think had there been 15 more minutes of the episode, we probably would’ve seen Beau leaving the next morning.
Talk about filming the Beau-Buck fight.
Yeah. I kind of knew that was coming down [the] pipe, and Elwood had mentioned that this was gonna roll out. I was really excited because I’m just such a huge fan of Rex. And I told him that the first day. He showed up with Reba, and everybody was like, oh, Reba, Reba, Reba. And I just ran right up to Rex. I was like, “dude, I watched so many of your movies. I grew up watching you. I’m such a fan.”
He and I are both were both born and raised in Texas, and we just got along really well. And so, to get to work with him in that capacity, I was tickled. It was a lot of fun. He’s such a great performer and scene partner and just a good guy all around, not just working with him on camera. Just throw a football with him, just hang out with him, drink a beer with him. He’s that kind of guy. So to get to do that kind of work with somebody like that just made it all that much more fulfilling and fun and exciting.
I liked the nods to Supernatural this season, especially Beau giving Cassie salt for her new house, so she’s protected — “from demons,” as she remarks.
I can’t remember if that was in the script because it was so long ago. I think it was an ad lib — because I did a few different versions of that. That was one thing that they kind of encouraged me to do was do one scripted, and then if I’ve got some ideas, I can ad-lib some stuff. Not changing the script, but just changing a word here like that, for instance, I’ll just throw it in. It’s not gonna change the scene at all. It’s not gonna change the moment. It’s not gonna change anybody else’s dialogue, but it just kind of keeps it fresh. I got to do that quite a bit this season, which is a lot of fun. And I think that that was just an ad-lib that I think that I threw out there. [Laughs]

okay okay okay but before anyone disagrees with me, I DID love seeing Walter and Cormac meet, plus I ship the fuck out of Donno and Tonya so that scene made me happy. But the rest of it was... lackluster. the season deserved better. guess we'll have to wait and see if we get a season 4 now (which i hope so because I NEED more Katheryn Winnick and Big Sky in my life)

@onlydevilsleft {{because of course, tumblr}}
Despite growing together on neighbouring spreads like ivy and trellis, Beth isn't aware of all the Dutton secrets and those they go to war against, and this is what it feels like. The chaos and confusion, sounds more or less foreign to her. The man in front of her made of steel and fire. He sounds like Andy when he talks. Somewhere around the edges, he looks like Billy. Like Kayce. She has to wonder if her siblings are out there. Jay, the baby, a livestock agent, might have been on the call list, if anyone had managed to make one. Fingers of fear seem to latch tighter around her throat as she thinks about her siblings and of those close enough to be cousins, friends, life long companions. And some part of takes a step back and wonders why she's so willing to trust Holden as readily as she does, not suspecting him in having a hand on this ambush. Some relief rises up like a spring when he told her Cara was no where near this mess, and neither was John. A man she loved and admired and put on a pedestal, as if he were the spirit of the Living West. A man more myth than real in some ways. But when Holden looks down, she does too and sees the dark stains. She doesn't have to be a doctor to see what a ticking time-bomb that is for both of them, though now doesn't seem to be the right time to try and get his shirt off, see if the wound needs hospitalisation. There's no blue to his lips, no sign of a punctured lung. She can't help but twitch a grin when he stops himself. Of course she does. All of the Rileys had learn to shoot at around the same time they learned to ride. Some of them you could swear were born in the saddle. She remembers the Admiral standing behind her, holding up most of the weight of a small, two shot Derringer when she was just a little over five years old. As she grew, so did the calibre and weight of the weapon. She and Jay excel at long guns where as the boys are more adept with pistols, though they all can defend life, land, and liberty if they must. She narrows her gaze at him. Did he have the same sort of comfort? She counts with him, and when they hit three, she and Holden move as two halves of a whole, creeping low but fast.

The season 3 finale of Big Sky was the most anticlimactic finale for a TV show that I've ever seen. Think of a balloon when the air is let out. It was the most jarring, disconnected mess.
Tumblr media
I've been through many, many TV shows, including the BBC Merlin and Once Upon a Time. Those shows had some wacky finales, but they were still exciting, they brought a new element that left the story on a cliffhanger, and most of the plot threads from the current season were tied up neatly. They also made you want to keep watching the show.
I don't know what it was that I watched last night. I feel like the show didn't answer even half of the questions that it brought up during the entire season. I have a list of the questions I wanted answered and which are probably going to stay unanswered.
Why/how did Paige steal the money in the first place and why was Luke involved in the theft?
Buck is the Bleeding Heart killer but never explains why, not even to Sunny? He said he tried to do good but can't explain why he murdered innocent girls and put their hearts in jars? Wtf? Is he just a cold-blooded psychopath? What is his story or "excuse"?
Walter's murderous tendencies (hunting Luke, the backpacker) are just wiped away as if they never happened?
Why was Avery even in Montana in the first place?
Why/how did Avery agree to work with the syndicate to get part of the money?
How did Avery know about the money or Paige/Luke when he got into Sunny's camp?
Who the hell ARE Paige and Luke?
Was Walter holding Paige against her will? Did she have any real feelings for him or just manipulated him?
Why does Buck kidnap Denise and Emily? He doesn't bargain for his freedom and I'm not even sure he knew that Paige saw the heart jars. What was even the point of this? He acted like he had no clear motive?! He could have asked Sunny to come anyway?
Second, I think the show was unfair to a lot of people who were shipping the main couple because nothing happened. We're not asking for big dramatic gestures, but as far as I'm concerned, it seems like Jenny's interest in Beau was one-sided/unrequited and even if that interest was sort of returned, it was too weak to be noticeable. I would have preferred for them to just be good friends and partners instead of the writers teasing a building romantic relationship that they had no intention of pursuing. Maybe the season just wasn't long enough. At this point it seems like they are anticipating the show will not be renewed and they didn't want to upset anyone in particular, either those who don't like Jenny and Beau as a couple or those who wanted them to get together. When are writers going to learn that you can't make everyone happy and you shouldn't even try because that's bad storytelling? Pick a side, people!
I will admit I started watching Big Sky because of Jensen Ackles and his great performance in The Boys. I think the acting is good, but the scripts suck. Honestly, what even was this finale? It was action filled and yet it felt like nothing happened. There were no real stakes because nobody really got hurt except for Buck, and I even would have appreciated an ambiguous ending where we weren't sure whether the big baddie or the good guy survived.
I feel like parts of the story were taken for granted and the writers expected us to fill in the blanks ourselves without giving us any backstory or explanation. I'm afraid that just won't cut it for me. I'm not saying that I need everything to be handed to me on a platter - I can think and figure things out for myself - but I still need them to give me enough information to put together. Everything was so disconnected and motives were so unclear that the reason I should feel anxious or concerned for the characters didn't exist. Buck had no legitimate reason to kidnap those girls, and he didn't do anything with that action except ask for his wife, who wasn't in prison or under arrest. She was just under surveillance and that was it. Again, there were no real stakes here.
To me, the writers seemed tired of their own story and opted to create an ending that was the easiest for them to write. Do I sound disappointed? Good, because I wasted so much time on this show, expecting it to be thrilling and well written, and I got a season finale that was written worse than for a fantasy show. The plot threads were not tied up as they should have been, and there was only partial resolution for character arcs. The red herrings were ridiculous. Sunny was advertised as the villain of the season, and while she was involved in crimes, it didn't feel like true villainy at all. Most of the time, I thought she was boring and not fleshed out enough for me to hate or even dislike. She seemed as much of a player as any of the other characters in the story, not the villain that is supposed to stand directly opposite the hero or even anti-hero. Then Buck didn't even go to jail or do penance for all those girls and other people he killed. The serial killer tendencies are hinted at too late to make much of an impact. He was evil but not fleshed out enough to be a villain either! Why should I even care when he never said why he believed he could do what he did, knowing that it was wrong? Motivation is what makes characters evil or good. I even speculated that Buck was covering up for Cormac or they were both serial killers, a father and son duo. Anything?! You can't just say, "Oh, he's a serial killer!" and that's it. No explanation, no motivation, nothing. ALL CRIME HAS A MOTIVE. FREE WILL = MOTIVE.
Even if Big Sky gets renewed for a 4th season, I don't think I'll be watching it. Rant over.
