Bich Dong Pagoda (Chùa Bích Động) in Ninh Binh, Vietnam. It's interesting to note that, in Vietnam, Buddhist structures like this are designated as pagodas rather than as temples; temples are dedicated solely to monarchical/political figures. (Taken by me, 2023)

Cuc Phuong National Park
Cuc Phuong Forest is a nature reserve about 120km from the center of Hanoi. This is not only a place to discover the diversity of flora and fauna, but also a unique natural check-in point. I visited Cuc Phuong National Park in a trip with my school friends quite a long time ago. And it was such a interesting experience. I have to admit that I do not really like to walk or trek through the…

Bich Dong Pagoda is a sacred place for Buddhists. This temple is located in a majestic mountain and cave on top of the mountain. Upon entering the temple compound, you are welcomed by reflecting waters of the rice field. More lotus and beautiful flowers are present on this place. Much like Catholic Churches, this Buddhist gate displays Buddhist figures. The tropical forest conceals more of what is inside the compound.
Inside the Bich Dong Pagoda, there are a number of ancient pagodas combined and hidden in a tropical forest. The area is an ideal place to meditate and pray because of its peaceful environment. During our visit, it was almost sunset, and the interplay of light and shadows on the forest and buildings bestowed upon me a conscious sense of the sacredness and spiritual essence of the place. There are more places in Bich Dong that require climbing up towards the cave, but my family and I are tired from travel. Overall, we were glad to stroll through these peaceful and spiritual grounds.

Ninh Binh interesting At Bich Dong there's a series of pagodas and a fascinating collection of caves farther up the outcrop. Some of these caves were used by the Viet Minh to hide from the French during the First Indochina War. The caves are full of stalactites that have been carved into Buddhist images, as well as stalactites that are hollow upon which tunes can be played. You can climb all the way to the top of the outcrop, from where there are fantastic views over the surrounds. The rice paddies all reflect the surrounding peaks giving the effect of an emerald mirror. For stunning views across Tam Coc and Bich Dong you'll have to put some effort in: 500 steps of effort to be precise. The vantage point is located a good few kilometres from Tam Coc, with steps built into the side of a hill. At the top is a statue of Quan Am and a small shrine, but it's the views you'll be wowed by. To get there from Tam Coc, head along the wide road towards Ninh Binh, and after couple of kilometres you will see a pond on the left, with a large tree with many roots at the corner. Turn left after this pond and keep going. You'll see a sign for Hang Mua on the left. #NinhBinhAdventure #ExploreVietnamHistory #HoaLuTamCoc #BikingInNature #BichDongBeauty

For history enthusiasts, Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam during the Dinh and Le dynasties, is a must-visit. The site includes two main temples, dedicated to King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh. Tam Coc / Ninh Binh, Vietnam — February 2024. The Wooden Door Hotel was so sweet and decorated the room for Chris’ 60th birthday on arrival. After a quick freshen up we hopped on the bikes for a look around. Chris has a treasure hunt he has to solve for his birthday weekend and the first challenge was to make his way to the most beautiful viewpoint of Ninh Binh. At Hang Mua you climb up, up, up the dragon’s back to a lovely view of the surrounding karst mountains and paddy fields below. After lunch he had to find his way to a small cluster of 600 year old temples set against the mountains called Bich Dong pagoda. With a full belly and beat for the day, we peddled home to relax at the hotel and ended up meeting two fellow guests, Yvonne and Jasper. They’re traveling with their two year old daughter from the Netherlands.
