Those who know me, know my love of reading. I almost always have a book with me, well, now not always because everything is online now. I am a proud library member and I absolutely enjoy their e-books. Right now I am reading a book - The Official Narnia Cookbook (Food from The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis). This is a sort of cookbook but with stories. If you love the Narnia movies, you may want to try some of these recipes. I know I will! As I was reading the book and how things are different between Narnia (fictional world and yet strangely very close to our world only a few decades ago) and our world (our current world with all the technological advancements), I remembered a very old Indian kitchen gadget - Shil Nora (Sil Batta). This is a traditional heavy stone grinder. It is used to make very fine pastes of ginger, garlic, fennel, poppy seeds and what not. Before we had Nutri Bullet, electrical grinders and paste makers, we had this. The stone is very heavy, I still don't know how my grandma used to lift it up and wash it after every use. Grinding something on the stone takes time and lots of patience. It's a useful thing to keep kids busy for quite some time (which is how I learnt to use it). Intrigued? To read the article, click on my instagram story and click on the link. Or go to the 'Baking Tips and Kitchen Essentials' section of my blog Life Without Alu? and look for the article - Shil Nora (Sil Batta)– stone spice grinder Or click on the below link: https://lifewithoutalu.blogspot.com/2017/03/shil-nora-stone-spice-grinder.html . #lifewithoutalu #homemade #delicious #greattaste #shilnora #silbatta #stonegrinder #grinder #traditional #traditionalgrinder #bhapailish #posto #poppyseed #fennelseeds #togrind #makepaste #paste #gingerpaste #garlicpaste #fennelseedpaste #poppyseedpaste #grandma #bymygrandma #kitchen #kitchengadgets #gadgets #gadget #kitchengadget #oldgadget #spicegrinder https://www.instagram.com/p/CeU_UbtuwOs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
