Bhandardara Camping: A Magical Night with Fireflies
Tumblr media
Bhandardara: A Slice of Paradise
Bhandardara is nestled in the Sahyadri mountain range, about 185 kilometers from Mumbai. It's a picturesque destination, famous for its serene lakes, lush greenery, and historic Wilson Dam. What really drew me to Bhandardara, however, was the promise of camping under the starry sky and witnessing the mystical fireflies that light up the night.
The Perfect Location
The Bhandardara camping site was a bit off the beaten path but well worth the journey. The lush surroundings and tranquil ambiance make it an ideal destination for a camping adventure. Surrounded by towering hills and the pristine waters of the Bhandardara Dam, the location couldn't have been more perfect. Before setting off on this adventure, I did some research and found several packages available. I chose a package that included a tent for two, delicious meals, and a guided nature walk to see the fireflies. Bhandardara camping booking was a breeze with Universal Adventure and they have package options as well, and I was all set for a weekend of nature immersion.
A Date with Fireflies
Our camping adventure began late in the afternoon. The campsite was buzzing with excitement as fellow campers set up their tents. The real magic, though, awaited us in the night.
As the sun began to set, our group gathered for a guided nature walk in the nearby forest. Our guide was an expert, and he took us deep into the woods where the fireflies were known to shine their brightest. The sight of thousands of fireflies flickering like stars in the forest was nothing short of magical. It felt like I had stepped into a fairytale.
Campfire and Conversations
Back at the campsite, we gathered around a roaring campfire. Bhandardara camping location is a perfect one for stargazers. Under the starry night sky, we shared stories, laughter, and delicious food. The camp organizers had set up a bonfire and had even arranged some soothing music, adding to the enchanting atmosphere. Sitting there, with new friends and the sounds of nature all around, it was the perfect way to spend an evening.
Tumblr media
A Night in the Tent
The camping packages at Bhandardara usually include tents. The tents were comfortable and had all the essentials we needed. It was amazing to fall asleep to the soothing sounds of nature, far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It's a unique experience you won't get in a hotel room.
Sunrise Over Wilson Dam
Waking up to the tranquil beauty of Bhandardara was something I'll never forget. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a warm and golden glow over the Wilson Dam. The campsite offered a spectacular view, and I couldn't resist taking a few photographs to capture the moment. The Bhandardara camping packages also included a simple but delicious breakfast served with a view of the serene lake. There's something special about enjoying your morning coffee with the backdrop of nature's beauty, and Bhandardara offers just that.
>> How much does it cost to Bungee Jump in Kolad?
Exploring the Bhandardara Dam
After breakfast, we had some free time to explore the area. I couldn't resist taking a walk down to the Bhandardara Dam. The vast expanse of water surrounded by the rugged hills was a sight to behold. It's a great spot for some photos and to soak in the natural beauty. The beautiful experience of Bhandardara dam camping could not be explained in words.
Tips for Bhandardara Camping
Pack Warm: Evenings and mornings can be chilly, so make sure to pack warm clothes.
Insect Repellent: Don't forget to bring insect repellent to keep those pesky bugs away.

Check Weather Conditions: Before heading out, check the weather forecast. Avoid the monsoon season due to the risk of heavy rains and potential flooding. The best times to camp are during the post-monsoon and winter months.
Pack Appropriately: Bring weather-appropriate clothing, including layers for cooler evenings. Essentials include a sturdy tent, sleeping bag, mat, and comfortable footwear. Also, pack a flashlight or headlamp, as well as extra batteries.
Food and Water: Ensure you have enough non-perishable food and snacks. Carry sufficient drinking water or a water purification system, as access to clean water may be limited.
Fire Safety: If you're planning to have a campfire, follow all fire safety guidelines. Use established fire pits if available and ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the site. Avoid lighting fires during dry conditions.
Respect Nature: Follow Leave No Trace principles by disposing of all waste properly. Carry out all trash, and avoid disturbing wildlife and natural habitats. Use biodegradable toiletries to minimize environmental impact.
Stay Hydrated and Protected: Drink plenty of water throughout your stay to stay hydrated. Use sunscreen and insect repellent to protect yourself from sunburn and bugs.
Plan Activities: Plan your activities, such as boating on the dam or hiking in the surrounding area. Make sure to inform someone about your plans and expected return time.
Safety Precautions: Be aware of the local wildlife and take necessary precautions. Keep food stored securely to avoid attracting animals. Also, ensure your camping gear is secure and properly set up to handle the local conditions.
Local Regulations: Adhere to any local camping regulations and guidelines set by park authorities or campsite operators. This helps ensure safety and preserves the natural environment for future visitors.
Emergency Preparedness: Have a first aid kit on hand and know the location of the nearest medical facilities. In case of emergencies, have a plan and communication devices ready.

Mahabaleshwar
The historic hill town of Mahabaleshwar is renowned for its breathtaking views and several vantage points. Many places give panoramic views of the Jor Valley, such as Arthur's Seat, Elphinstone Point, or Wilson Point, which is the highest point (1400 metres), on this huge plateau that spans 150 kilometres. Numerous historic temples, like the Panchganga Temple and the Old Mahabaleshwar Temple, are nearby in the Old Mahabaleshwar. Most significantly, Mahabaleshwar is where the Krishna River originates.
Panchgani
This stunning hill town, which is situated in the heart of five Sahyadri Mountains, is around 100 kilometres from Pune. Surprisingly, Panchgani's volcanic plateau, colloquially referred to as "Table Land," is Asia's second-highest plateau. It is the Deccan Plateau's expansion. Sydney Point, which gives a breathtaking view of the Dhom Dam Lake, and Parsi Point, which offers a viewpoint of the Krishna River Valley, are two of the more well-known locations.
Chikhaldara
230 kilometres from Nagpur lies the well-known hill station of Chikhaldara, which is located in the Amravati District. There are plenty of stunning views, lakes, waterfalls, and animals in this area. The Melghat Tiger Reserve, which is also close, contains a sizable population of Bengal Tigers (around 41 in 2017) in addition to 80 other mammalian species. The two notable lakes are Shakkar and Kalapani.
GaganBawda
The little hill village of Gagan Bawda is located less than 300 kilometres from Pune. You can discover soul-satisfying hiking options in the foggy Western Ghats if you take a detour to Mudagad Fort, 60 kilometres north, or Shivgad Fort, 60 kilometres south. The Gagangad Fort, the Karul Ghat, and the Bhuibawada Ghat are a few of the must-see locations in this area.
Bhandardara
This oasis beside the lake is situated in the Ahmednagar neighbourhood. Numerous hikes, including the Kalsubai Peak Trek, lead to and from Lake Arthur, a popular destination for campers. Water falls from 170 feet at the Randha Falls of the Pravara river, which is about 7 kilometres from the camping area. Bhandardara, a Cenozoic-era region, also has Maharashtra's tallest mountain. With a low height of 1645 metres, Kalsubai is about 13 kilometres away from Lake Arthur by car and is a short stroll away. There are even more reasons to visit this location when you have the most recent Makemytrip discounts & cashback deals.
