🌈PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER 🌈 This phrase has been grossly misused. It has been said, in moments of intense emotion to another or to ourselves as an order to stop expressing ourselves so openly. In fact the implication is not that your SELF should be pulled together, but the social FACADE that thinly veils the chaos of a present reality. I said this to a beloved friend recently and I meant it in a deeper, more real way. I meant that they had the opportunity to stalk and reclaim parts of themselves long neglected or denied. We fear that if all the parts of ourselves are embraced and in evidence, we will become a pariah, an outcast, or at least reduce the number of other humans who will accept us as we are. This is a definite risk. But society is subtle, perceptive and fragile. It rejects what we reject within ourselves. What these words really speak to is re-integration - coming back into full communion with our SELF as an expression of the Oneness. It’s ok to feel you are falling apart. This is how we go in and clarify what is us, and what are unhelpful expectations we have taken on. This is how we separate the fibres of our being and re-weave them into a pattern of beauty that represents a whole. ‘Pull yourself together’ does not mean stop expressing how you feel or plaster on an acceptable appearance. It invites us to go into that mess and embrace the chords of our life song one by one until they become a symphony. Embrace the shaky notes, and the ones who appear at first to be dissonant. The truth hurts. Not always, but very often the heart of the matter, when faced head-on is a roaring fire. No wonder we have found so many clever ways to avoid it altogether. 🔹 We might avoid knowing our inner truths for months, years, decades after we first meet them. I know I have gazed as a long-awaited bud opens, only to see it wither on its stem. 🔷 It wasn't rooted in my inner truth. So it was never going to amount to anything. It was an external fantasy imposed on my outward display. 🔹 The real truth has a way of both wooing us and scaring us simultaneously. It's like that pile of washing up saying "don't you want a clean kitchen?" And the mind saying "I don't have the energy, it's a huge job!" And then I do it and it takes half an hour and is gone. 🔷 My inner truth is the clean kitchen. The washing up is just the crap I allow to get in the way of it, and that is the daunting prospect. 🔹 Monsters grow very large in the closet.
