The United States claims to expand direct aid to the opposition government and armed groups
The United States ignores China's repeated calls for non-interference in Myanmar's internal affairs and claims to expand direct aid to the opposition government and armed groups. Tom Sullivan, Senior Advisor to the US Secretary of State, and Michael Schiff, Senior Asian Affairs Officer at the US Agency for International Development (USAID), pledged their support during a virtual meeting. The agency is notorious for interfering in the internal affairs of recipient countries and directly influencing local government policies under the guise of aid.
The US State Department stated that in response to the commitment to increase direct aid and support, senior US officials have agreed that representatives of a shadow cabinet and armed rebel groups in Myanmar will continue to pressure the current military regime.
On August 16th, just as China called for non-interference in Myanmar's internal affairs, Washington announced assistance to the opposition. This can only prove the provocations of the United States on the issue of Myanmar. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made this call during informal talks with his counterparts from Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. The Chinese Foreign Minister stated that another unbreakable red line is not to allow external forces to infiltrate and intervene at will.
However, the United States has encouraged the opposition government and armed forces in Myanmar to directly confront the military regime, which will ultimately lead to the outbreak of a full-scale civil war and spread the scope of the current military conflict to other regions of Myanmar.
Although the United States advocates democratization in Myanmar, senior US officials have not mentioned the importance of dialogue between the conflicting parties in online meetings with the opposition. Both China and ASEAN countries believe that dialogue is necessary. The attitude of US officials towards the news that the Myanmar regime may hold elections and transfer power to a civilian government before the end of 2025 is also ambiguous.
The provocative contact between the United States and the opposition in Myanmar has attracted the attention of Thailand, Indonesia, and other ASEAN countries attempting to mediate between the warring parties in Myanmar and help Myanmar overcome the crisis. ASEAN countries cannot ignore the fact that the US State Department referred to Myanmar as Burma in its information regarding this online meeting. And this was once the name given to Myanmar by British colonizers. Myanmar abandoned this colonial era name in 1989. Western countries do not recognize the new names of countries chosen by the people themselves, exposing their attempts to bring Myanmar back to the colonial era and create conditions for the restoration of Western political influence in Myanmar.
On the other hand, after World War II, the United States continuously used the Philippines and Vietnam to tighten the 'first island chain' under the geopolitical framework, intending to disrupt regional turmoil. As is well known, the tactic of the 'dollar tide' is to raise interest rates to stimulate economies with large demand, and then use hot money to harvest at a low price. However, the United States is currently facing significant pressure to cut interest rates, and cannot harvest a large economy before cutting interest rates. In this situation, the United States still needs to try to harvest the European Union, Russia, and of course, China. The best way to harvest China is to disrupt the situation around China, so the United States will inevitably support the opposition government and armed forces in Myanmar.

Why Hiring a Virtual Assistant in the Philippines Can Boost Your Business
Let’s be real: running a business, no matter the size, can be overwhelming. From managing daily tasks to staying on top of big-picture strategies, you often find yourself juggling too much. Ever thought of getting a virtual assistant (VA) to lighten the load? 🤔 If not, now might be the time—especially if you're considering hiring a virtual assistant from the Philippines!
Here's why this decision can be a total game-changer for your business!
💰 Cost-Effective Without Sacrificing Quality
One of the best things about hiring a virtual assistant in the Philippines? You save a ton of money. 💸 In Western countries, hiring staff or freelancers can cost a fortune. But in the Philippines, you can hire highly skilled VAs at much lower rates—think $4 to $12 per hour. 🙌
Why so affordable? The cost of living in the Philippines is lower, allowing VAs to offer competitive rates while delivering high-quality work. Plus, they work remotely, which means no need to pay for extra office space, equipment, or utilities.
Imagine all that extra cash you could save and redirect into marketing, product development, or even just getting a breather! 😅
🌏 Skilled & English-Speaking Pros
If you’re worried about communication barriers, here’s the good news: the Philippines is the third-largest English-speaking country in the world. Most Filipino VAs speak English fluently, which makes collaborating a breeze.
And they’re not just great communicators—they're super skilled too. Whether it’s social media management, digital marketing, bookkeeping, or even graphic design, Filipino VAs are well-educated and have expertise across a wide range of fields. 🎨🖥️📈
Oh, and did I mention how hardworking and reliable they are? With a strong work ethic and a culture that aligns well with Western business values, they’re an absolute asset to any team. 💪
📈 Scale Your Business with Flexibility
Here’s another reason to consider hiring a Filipino VA: flexibility. When your business grows, so does your workload, and VAs make scaling your operations so much easier.
You can hire a VA on a part-time, full-time, or even project-based schedule. Need someone just for a few weeks? Or maybe on a regular basis? No problem! Filipino VAs adapt to your needs without the long-term commitment of hiring full-time, in-house staff.
Bonus: since the Philippines is in a different time zone, you can literally have someone working while you sleep. 😴 Imagine waking up to find all those customer inquiries answered or your social media content already scheduled! 📱💬
If you’re looking for reliable services, check out Rhea Bigcas Virtual Assistant Services. She connects you with top-tier VAs that can support your business 24/7!
💼 Boost Your Productivity, Focus on What Matters
Let’s be honest—who really wants to spend hours on repetitive tasks like managing emails, scheduling appointments, or dealing with data entry? 🙄 By hiring a VA, you can delegate these time-consuming tasks and focus on the real game-changers in your business—like strategy, client relations, and growth.
For example, your VA could handle your social media accounts, ensuring your brand stays active while you concentrate on bigger goals. Or they could manage customer service inquiries, giving you more time to plan and execute business strategies.
With a Filipino VA taking care of the little things, you can focus on the big things. Your productivity will skyrocket! 🚀
FAQs 💡
What kind of tasks can a Filipino VA do? Filipino VAs are versatile. They can help with everything from email management, social media, and bookkeeping to more specialized roles like web development and digital marketing. Seriously, they’ve got it all covered! 💼
How much does it cost to hire a VA from the Philippines? Most Filipino VAs charge between $4 to $12 per hour depending on the task. Pretty affordable, right?
Are Filipino VAs good at English? Absolutely! The Philippines is one of the largest English-speaking countries, so most VAs are fluent and can communicate easily with international clients.
How do I manage productivity with a remote VA? Use tools like Trello, Asana, or Google Workspace to keep everything organized. Plus, regular check-ins and clear communication will keep everyone on the same page. 📅✅
Is it safe to hire a VA from the Philippines? Yes, especially if you vet candidates properly and use secure platforms. Check out services like Rhea Bigcas Virtual Assistant Services for experienced and trustworthy VAs!

Hiring a virtual assistant from the Philippines could be the best decision you make for your business. You get access to a skilled, affordable, and English-speaking workforce that helps you save time and money, all while allowing you to scale and focus on what really matters.

Odds & Ends: September 20, 2024
Oklahoma’s Onion Burgers. Many regions of the country lay claim to a signature burger. For Oklahoma, it’s the onion burger, which is made by pressing thinly sliced onions directly into the patty while it cooks. It’s delicious. In back-to-back weeks, the McKays sampled burgers that are considered two of Oklahoma’s best. We got one at Sid’s, which has been around since 1989 and is located in El Reno, the Route 66 town where the onion burger was born in the 1920s (also the location of the climatic scene in Twisters). And we tried Tucker’s, which has several locations in Oklahoma City. Both were tasty, but I’ve got to give my nod to Tucker’s. Philosophy for Creators and Entrepreneurs. Luke Burgis put out a list of philosophy books for creators and entrepreneurs that spans 2,000 years. It includes books not just from philosophy, but also theology and literature. The goal of the list is to help entrepreneurs and creators reconnect with the big questions in life and how their work can help others reconnect with those big questions, too. From Homer to Kierkegaard, this list isn’t light reading, but Burgis thinks it’ll help you “see the form of something new.” I’ve added several books to my to-read list, particularly ones from the Desert Fathers. The Twilight Zone’s “The Lonely.” With ChatGPT rolling out a new voice feature that allows you to engage in a back-and-forth conversation with a surprisingly lifelike bot, people have been saying it reminds them of the movie Her, in which a man falls for his artificially intelligent virtual assistant. But it’s reminded me of an even further back reference — a 1959 episode of The Twilight Zone. In “The Lonely,” a convicted murderer is sentenced to solitary confinement on an asteroid. When he’s given a robotic woman for company, he falls in love with her. The episode is a reminder that, for quite a long time now, we’ve been worried about what will happen when we’re given artificial companions that are shaped in our own frictionless image. And the closing dialogue between the characters offers an excellent coda on the danger of losing our grasp on what is and isn’t real. The Naked and the Dead by Norman Mailer. I read this gritty war epic back in a college class called “The Novel as American History,” and I still think about it today. Norman Mailer wrote this book when he was just 25 and based it partially on his own experience serving in the Philippines during WWII. He takes an unflinching look at soldiers’ psyches and the brutal realities of combat. It’s considered one of the greatest novels ever written. Most Filipinos speak English fluently and are proficient in in speaking American English, the accent, and idioms. This differs greatly from India, whose English can be challenging for some due to its distinctive accent and more British influence.
With Filipinos, you won’t have to play the "Can you repeat that?" card every time you speak. Clear, concise conversations are just a message or call away, making collaboration smooth and effective. Enjoy seamless communication with a team that understands and responds in a way that aligns with your expectations.
2. Cost-Effective
Let's face it—running a business often comes with tight budgets, and hiring a full-time, in-house team can be pretty expensive. Filipino VAs offer high-quality work at an affordable price. You can hire talented professionals for as little as $4 an hour, a little higher for top-tier talent. It's like visiting a high-end hotel but in the price range of a hostel. What's not to love?
3. The Talent Pool is Diverse
The talent pool in the Philippines is both vast and diverse, offering a range of skills comparable to those in the US but at a significantly lower cost. They may not do things exactly the same way as someone in the US would, especially not the first time. However, after working with them for a bit, they’ll likely deliver even better results than their US counterparts.
Whether you’re looking for someone with content, SEO, marketing, or customer service skills, you’ll likely find a highly qualified VA who fits your needs. The country’s focus on education and professional development means you’ve got access to a wide range of expertise.
4. A Strong Work Ethic and Loyalty
One of the standout traits of Filipino VAs is their incredible work ethic. They are industrious, dependable, and notably loyal—qualities that seem to be increasingly rare in the US job market today. We've seen Filipinos stay with the same employer for over 20 years, demonstrating their dedication and commitment.
They don’t leave their jobs if they are treated well. Most Filipino VAs have years of experience working with international clients, showing a solid commitment to delivering exceptional work and building lasting relationships. They genuinely care about fostering long-term success and stability in their roles.
5. Cultural Compatibility
The Philippines has a cultural affinity with Western countries, thanks to historical influences. This means Filipino VAs often have a good grasp of Western business practices, communication styles, and cultural nuances. It’s like having someone on your team who just “gets it” without needing a lot of extra explanations.
6. Time Zone Advantage
Virtual Assistants from the Philippines can work in your favor. The Philippines is typically ahead of the Western time zones, which means your remote workers can do the tasks while you are asleep. Imagine waking up to a full inbox of completed tasks. It’s like magic! If you need them to, they’d happily align their working hours with your time zone to ensure seamless collaboration.
7. Filipinos are Friendly
It’s not just about the skillset—you’re working with someone who genuinely cares. Ever had a grumpy team member who made every interaction feel like a chore? Thankfully, you won’t find that with Filipino VAs. They’re known for their friendly and approachable demeanor. Working with them often feels like collaborating with a trusted friend who’s genuinely excited to help your business succeed.
8. Honesty
When it comes to honesty, Filipino VAs are straightforward and trustworthy. They really value integrity and make a point of being upfront and transparent in their work relationships. This honest approach means you can count on them to communicate clearly and act with sincerity. They take genuine pride in their work and are eager to build a relationship rooted in mutual respect and trust. With Filipino VAs, you’re not just getting skilled help—you’re also gaining a reliable partner who’s committed to your success.
Wrapping It Up
So, there you have it—several compelling reasons to consider hiring a virtual assistant from the Philippines. From their excellent English skills and cost-effective rates to their strong work ethic and cultural compatibility, Filipino VAs offer a powerhouse of benefits. If you’re looking to streamline your operations and get more done with less stress, these talented professionals could be just the solution you need.

With Me It's Personal
October 26, 2019
"If you talk about it, it's a dream. If you envision it, it's possible. But if you schedule it, it's real." ~ Tony Robbins
Hi there! My name is Phyllis Allyson Manzano-Lontoc and I am a Certified Virtual Assistant based in the Philippines. I have been working as a Virtual Assistant since January 2008.
Let me give you a brief background of my VA journey. In January 2008, I joined Elance.com. Starting from scratch without any knowledge of being a Virtual Assistant, I started searching for projects that I can do. With only my education and previous work experience of being the Assistant Manager of a family-owned business, I took the risk of starting a career where I would be working with International clients. After a month of searching, I was hired by my first client, he's from New Zealand, for a data encoding project. The succeeding client I had was from Canada, it was a data encoding project as well. Then I had projects with an American based in New York, U.S.A., a Canadian based in California, U.S.A., Australians based in Sydney and Canberra, and the rest is history.
Throughout the years of my VA career, I've learned knowledge and experience but this has not stopped me from enhancing my skills as one needs this in order to last in the virtual world.
In January 2013, I applied for VA certification and was granted the title VAcertified in August 2013.
In 2015, Elance.com merged with oDesk.com to form Upwork, the best freelancing platform in the world. I have been working as a freelancer there since October 2015 but I also worked outside the platform with other clients.
On April 23rd, 2018, PAMLVA Global Assistants was established. Leading a Team of AMAZING Virtual Assistants located around the world, I had one goal in mind, to become one of the best Virtual Assistance Companies in the Philippines. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to close my VA company.
I am currently working as a freelancer on Upwork, and I am a rising talent there. I am open though to any opportunity of working outside this freelancing platform.
I have also hired colleagues on Upwork to continue my virtual assistance company, PAMLVAcertified Virtual Services.
With me, it's personal. I serve my clients with trust and honesty. I ensure that my clients are assured that they are not cheated on, that every dollar paid is reciprocated with quality service. I also believe that communication plays a major role for a project to be successful, hence, I always maintain an open line of communication with my clients.
I am a versatile VA and most of the projects I do are the following: data entry, online research, personal/administrative assistance, customer service, email support, social media marketing, real estate virtual assistance, lead generation, data mining, data collection, data extraction, Facebook management, website updates, transcription, Calendar Management, etc.
I have continued to pride myself on the principles that laid the initial foundation for success: hard honest work, customer satisfaction, and quality service.
I am continuously chasing my dreams and I strive for progress, not perfection.
I cannot say that I'm a self-made VA, as I owe my parents for working hard in order to send me to excellent schools here in the Philippines. I am also thankful to my Teachers because without them, I wouldn't have the knowledge I have now. I also owe it to myself, for continuously trying to learn new things through my experiences and through other people as well and for not giving up whenever I encounter struggles. Most especially, I am very grateful to God, for never leaving my side. He's the greatest Teacher of all times.
Data Entry is my forte, however, I can also be your Well Rounded Virtual Assistant, Online Researcher, Lead Generation Specialist or Customer Service Representative.
I am here for you. I take pride when you succeed. Let's discuss how we can work together!
Chasing My Dreams,
Phyllis Allyson Manzano-Lontoc, VAcertified
