“Careless” tells the story of two strangers who meet at an open mic in Manhattan. She’s a vibrant musician determined to perform even as her body resists her every move. He’s a mysterious young man weighed down by debilitating, chronic pain and a secret as dark as the mask that hides his face.
Through alternating perspectives, their chance encounter evolves into a night of raw connection and unguarded intimacy. As their stories intertwine, their personal struggles and unexpected likeness surface, revealing the solace and heartbreak of finding hope and relief in one another, even if for one night.
Each scene is paired with a song, making “Careless” an immersive experience where music mirrors the characters’ journeys and the poignancy of their bond.
Song: Grey Room, Damien Rice

He looked down at her lips. Soft, he noted. Trembling. He wondered what it must feel like to brush his against hers.
So, then, she also had something wrong with her. He considered the red of her palms, the repeating hand exercise — squeeze, twist, spread. He wanted to ask more about her diagnosis, how she still managed to play the guitar, to get up there and sing in front of everyone.
He decided to sit with his curiosity. Because here was a girl that could understand the persisting, debilitating pain that threatened to take everything she cared about away from her. But still she performed. Still, she rushed through bar doors, carelessly bumping into people, hopefully desperate that she made it on time to play a single song.
In a way, she reminded her of himself, or at least the person he was before succumbing to God’s kismet. He remembered running to his dad, holding up a giant fish, boasting his spoils of the family fishing trip. He remembered shaking his high school Headmaster’s hand before stepping onto the podium and pulling his Valedictorian speech out of his chest pocket. He remembered signing the release form in Hawaii, before taking to the warm blissful waters for the beginner surfing class that would ultimately aggravate his slipped vertebrae.
He remembered going under, laying face down on the operating table and staring at the sharp, shiny tools on the table beside him, thinking about how they would cut him open. He remembered waking up and the surgery was successful and he cried because he thought it was finally over — the pain in his back and the pain in his family and friend’s eyes when they saw him flinch and squirm and groan for years.
After that, all he wanted was to zen out and spend some time in best place to do so. He thought he at least deserved that, right? He met wonderful people in Japan, climbed the tallest mountains and breathed the freshest air.
But kismet did not allow that relief to last very long. And since July, he has been isolated, alone, lonely. He convinced himself that nobody could possibly understand how this kind of pain could push someone to make a decision like the one he is making, had already made.
He looked at the girl sitting across from him, their knees hovering, the atomic space between them kindly asking for fusion. She was smiling up at him, trying to read his eyes but she did not have the faintest idea what he had resigned himself to all those months ago. And that was for the best — he would not involve innocent people. He had to do this alone. He hated being alone.
A sharp panic rang through his body, though he did not allow himself to show it to her. Calm, be calm, he told himself, trying to still his racing thoughts. You almost forgot why you’re here, remember? No distractions. Leave, you should leave now.
10/41
She wasn’t always this forward, coming up to a random man at the bar. When it came to making the first move, well, she would never make it. There was always something holding her back, a little voice telling her the timing wasn’t quite right and that she should wait a bit longer. But what was she meant to be waiting for? For all of the hurt from the past to suddenly lift its shroud from her? For someone to give her a certificate that says, yes, yes, you did it, you are now ready to share this life with someone else!
She was never really alone, but she was lonely. She had dozens of friends and cousins and grandparents and coworkers who called her everyday, asking when they could see her again. She performed on stage and people followed her online, they knew the lyrics of her music, and they came to her shows. But she still went to bed alone at night. She still woke up stiff and untouched.
Because she didn’t know how to talk to other people, not like that. She must have skipped school the day they taught this, or dozed off or daydreamed during a lecture. Because even when she was able to finally solve someone’s equation, she didn’t know what she was supposed to do with the answer.
“I know what you’re going through.” He muttered, his jest stilled. The dark glint in his eyes became more apparent, though she had noticed it the whole time. His wincing, his body tensing, grasping his thighs as if to hold himself down.
He was in pain. She knew it after she hit him with her bag. She had reached the stage, looked at the crowd, and saw a masked man leaning over the bar with a hand clasping his back.
Maybe sitting here with him felt a little easier to her because he was wearing this mask, just like the one she wore though she did not mean nor want to. She told herself that they must be equals, because they were both hiding something. Her, hiding and shying and trembling under the weight of his stare. Him, well — she couldn’t begin to fathom what else he was hiding.
Yet something told her he was just like her. That he has been through what she has been through. Whether that was a good basis for taking this further, she did not care. It was a bad habit of hers — being pulled towards those who resonated with the things she she showed and told on stage. And anyway, it came naturally to her to be a beacon, especially to those who could not form their own.

The best surf spots in the world

It is believed that the inhabitants of Hawaii were the first to ride the waves using a special board back in the 4th century AD. Nowadays, surfing has turned from an ordinary sport into a real philosophy. It allows you to feel unity with the vast ocean, believe in yourself and get out of your comfort zone. The best places for surfing are extremely popular - there are ratings of countries and beaches around the world that every rider in love with the sea should visit. After all, a dizzying flight on the crest of a wave is one of the few ways to experience an incomparable feeling of freedom.
Ocean Beach, San Francisco, USA

Best time to visit: March-August The West Coast of the United States is famous for its excellent waves, and some beaches, such as Ocean Beach, are ranked among the best surf spots in the world. San Francisco is surrounded by water, and athletes have plenty to choose from. Constant waves and a huge variety of breaks allow everyone to ride, regardless of their level. And in this list, Ocean Beach definitely takes an honorable first place in extreme sports and beauty. Here, giant walls and pipes force you to strain all your strength to stay on the board, and the picturesque panorama of the ocean expanses with the majestic Golden Gate Bridge rising above the water makes you freeze with delight in the pauses between waves.
Jeffreys Bay, South Africa

Best time to visit: May-August J-Bay's epic waves have long been a legend among professional surfers. There are very few places in the world where you can find a pipeline like this, which is a real wall of water reaching 2-3 meters in height. The season here lasts almost all year round, and the epic marine views combined with a pleasant climate and friendly atmosphere make Jeffreys Bay and its famous Supertubes one of the best surf spots in the world.
Popoyo, Nicaragua

Best time to visit: December-April Popoyo is a very popular surfing spot among professionals. A beginner just starting to master the board will have a hard time - hurricane winds on the coast create powerful waves, and the incredibly strong Pacific current can pose a threat to life. However, Popoyo has a relatively calm bay suitable for beginners. Here you can not only learn the basics of surfing, but also ride a horse along uncrowded beaches, relax in a cafe on the shore, admiring the incredibly beautiful ocean landscape against the backdrop of harsh rocks.
Mentawai Islands, Indonesia

Best time to visit: April-October The Mentawai archipelago has 70 islands, and many of them have great surfing spots. Legendary surf breaks for masters can be found on Pagi, Siparo and Siberut - such famous spots as Bankvaults and Macaronis. Beginners will enjoy the calm beaches on the island of Sumbawa, where there are practically no big waves. The Mentawai Islands are not only one of the best surf spots in the world, but also vibrant resorts that rival the beauty of picturesque Bali or vibrant Sumatra. Surfers, lovers of diving, snorkeling and relaxing holidays among enchanting tropical nature come here.
Nazare, Portugal

Best time to visit: October-March The giant waves of Nazaré became legendary after Hawaiian rider Garrett McNamara managed to overcome a wave here that was almost 24 meters high. As a result, Praia do Norte beach has become considered one of the best surfing spots in the world - now the WSL Big Wave Contest is held here every year. Riding in Nazar is recommended only for experienced athletes. And if in the summer even beginners can test their skills, in the winter only real professionals can cope with the biggest waves on the planet.
Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia)

Best time to visit: December-February The magnificent beaches of the Gold Coast became famous back in the 60s of the last century. The coast's unique waves, which create ideal surfing tubes and walls, began to attract athletes and enthusiasts from all over the world here after the release of the film "Eternal Summer", which became a cult favorite in their community. Most surfers visiting the Gold Coast choose to stay in the Gold Coast, which has become one of Australia's premier destinations due to its excellent conditions for a variety of water sports. The total length of the Gold Coast is about 70 km. There are a lot of difficult areas here, so loved by professionals, and beginners can easily find beaches with relatively small waves. You can ride on the Gold Coast all year round, but experienced athletes prefer to come here during the winter months, when the ocean is especially choppy.
Skeleton Bay, Namibia

Best time to visit: December-April The cold and windy coast of Skeleton Bay is a real test for professionals. Powerful surf that does not allow you to calmly enter the water, sharp gusts of wind and huge waves will bring a lot of joy to experienced surfers who love to fight the elements and achieve victory at any cost. In addition, riding here is quite dangerous due to the sharks that regularly visit the bay. But despite all the difficulties, Skeleton Bay is popular among professionals who love adrenaline. The wave length in the bay can reach 2 km - this place is considered the longest left-hand surf break in the world. An experienced rider is able to ride 6 pipes in a row on one such wave thanks to the incredibly strong current. Due to difficult weather conditions, skiing in Skeleton Bay requires a wetsuit and, from May to November, boots.
Oahu, Hawaii

Best time to visit: November-February The north coast of Oahu is a paradise for surfers who come to Hawaii in search of thrills. It is not surprising that this sport originated here - the huge waves are simply ideal for riding a board. On the list of the best beaches in the world for surfing, Banzai Pipeline and Backdoor Surf are at the top positions. Not everyone takes the risk of skiing here - since ancient times, only true masters have dared to conquer the pipes and walls of the Banzai Pipeline. And now, despite sophisticated technology and modern equipment, the exceptionally heavy ten-meter backdoors of Banzai Pipeline make even world surfing champions nervous. Of the 36 unique surf breaks on Oahu's North Shore, dubbed the "Seven Mile Wonder", this stretch definitely deserves the title of the best surf spot in the world. With plenty of reef flats, the North Coast provides some more great surfing opportunities, including Turtle Bay and Waimea Bay, known for their powerful waves. For beginners, the best option would be to head to the beaches of Waikiki. Unlike most surf breaks on Oahu's North Shore, the ocean here is much calmer.
Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia

Best time to visit: June-August Cozy Byron Bay is about 70 kilometers of clean sand and powerful waves that do not subside for 12 months. The beaches of the bay are perfect for surfers of any level - both professionals and those who are just starting to learn the basics come here. Beginners should choose beaches patrolled by lifeguards for skiing - strong waves and emerging currents can pose a danger. In addition, you must pay attention to notifications from the coast service - blue jellyfish and great white sharks often swim into the bay. Despite the presence of protective nets, they can reach the coastline.
Teahupoo, Tahiti

Best time to visit: November-April Tahiti is known for its resorts, but the southern coast of the island is most popular among athletes. Teahupu is one of the best places in the world for surfing, despite the fact that the coastline is practically undeveloped and its wild beaches can only be reached by boat. If you don't want to live in a tent, you can stay at one of the surf campsites - for example, Tahiti Beachcomber or Papara Beach Campsite. Giant waves up to 30 meters high are ideal for surfing. Beginners will have a hard time here due to the shallow water - the walls often break, which means staying on the climb and reaching the ridge will be a very difficult task. Despite this, Teahupoo is popular with beginners in June - August, when the winds die down and the waves become smaller, providing an opportunity to learn basic surfing skills.
Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia

Best time to visit: April-October Uluwatu beaches are considered the best surfing spot in Bali, but they are not suitable for beginners. Not very large, but powerful and complex waves in this region force even experienced surfers to strain their strength. In addition, there is an incredibly strong current here, which makes skiing much more difficult. But if you feel confident on the board, you should definitely come here to try your hand at it. The festive and incredibly friendly atmosphere of Uluwatu, combined with extreme challenges on the waves, will definitely be remembered for a long time.
Florianopolis, Brazil

Best time to visit: December-April Florianópolis has more than 40 beaches, and their total length is approximately 1,500 km. The best surf spots are located around the island's capital, Santa Catarina. Due to the unique climatic conditions, there are waves all year round, and thanks to the vibrant tropical beauty and wide variety of surf breaks, the coast can easily lay claim to the title of one of the best surfing spots in the world. Beginner athletes usually ride on the beach of Barra da Lagoa. There are no strong waves that make orientation difficult, and you can choose between right and left breaks. For professionals, the beaches of Praia Mole and Praia da Joaquina are more suitable, where the waves are higher and less predictable due to frequent wind changes.
Buxton, North Carolina, USA

Best time to visit: December-February, partly May The best surfing beach on the Atlantic Coast of the United States is named after the Old Lighthouse Beach lighthouse overlooking Cape Hatteras. This is an open point break with long and fairly powerful waves that do not require special qualifications. It does not work very often - those who want to ride the wave will have to wait for the westerly wind. The water here is quite cool, so a wetsuit will be required.
Surin Beach, Phuket, Thailand

Best time to visit: May-October Despite the fact that Thailand is not on the list of the best places for surfing, there are also opportunities for those who like to ride the crest of a wave. One of the most suitable places for this is Surin Beach on the island of Phuket. The cozy and very beautiful coastline, almost 1.5 km long, is perfect for beginners. The waves here are small, but quite stable, although there are days of complete calm. It’s best to ride in the evening, when the heat subsides, the wind rises, and the colorful sunset enhances the feeling of unity with nature.
Black's Beach, San Diego, California, USA

Best time to visit: all year round Black's Beach is the most extreme surf spot in California. There is nothing to do here not only for beginners, but also for those who have begun to feel more or less confident on the board. The best surfers in San Diego gather at Black's Beach, and athletes from all over the state come here on weekends. The sharp wind and fast currents create high and very difficult waves that are difficult for even a professional to ride. Another advantage of the beach is the almost complete absence of people, with the exception of small groups of nudists.
Bundoran, Ireland

Best time to visit: December-February Bundoran has a strong claim to being the best surf spot in Europe. Huge waves here can reach heights of 50 m, although in many areas they are much smaller. Such diversity makes this natural corner of Ireland attractive to both professionals and beginners. At Bundoran, everyone can choose a spot that suits their skills - from rough elements to flat, gentle waves. The main thing is to have a warm wetsuit with you, as the water in this region is very cold even in the hot summer months, not to mention the winter when surfers flock here.
Killer Point, Taghazout, Morocco

Best time to visit: November-March The Killer Point surf spot gets its scary name from the killer whales that often swim into the region. Nevertheless, skiing here is still quite dangerous - sharks are found in this area, and long and powerful waves near the shore crash against the rocks. Beginners should go to other spots - there are quite a lot of them nearby, but professionals will definitely like the adrenaline-filled Killer Point. The waves here reach 1.5-3 meters, and the strong and changeable current will add to the pleasure. It is necessary to take into account that despite the hot weather, it is worth having a wetsuit with you - it will protect against sunburn and rather cool, especially in season, water.
Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Hawaii

Best time to visit: all year round Horseshoe-shaped Hanalei Bay has the kind of tropical beauty that can only be found in Hawaii. Wild rocks, a stormy ocean sparkling in the sun and waterfalls flowing among exotic greenery make an indelible impression. Additionally, Hanalei Bay is known for its consistently consistent top tube waves. The bay is large enough to offer areas of varying difficulty. There is a place for both professionals and beginners - which is why Hanalei Bay can easily be called one of the best places in the world for surfing.
Pedra Branca Ericeira, Portugal

Best time to visit: October-May Pedra Branca Ericeira Beach is located about 50 km from Lisbon, next to a small fishing village turned surf town. Now this zone has the status of a nature reserve - the only one of its kind in Europe and the second in the world. Its main difference from most European surf points is several powerful reef breaks, which create huge waves. Only professionals are recommended to surf here - it was in Pedra Branca Ericeira that the first Portuguese surfing championship was held.

How to Book Flights for Surfing Getaways
Surfing getaways are a dream for water sports enthusiasts seeking adventure and relaxation in equal measure. Whether you're a seasoned surfer or a beginner looking to catch the perfect wave, planning your travel is crucial to ensuring a smooth and enjoyable trip. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to book flights for surfing getaways, ensuring you get the best deals and optimal travel arrangements.
Book cheap flight tickets and hotels-https://trailtravelz.com/
1. Research Surf-Friendly Destinations Before booking your flight, research destinations renowned for their surf spots. Places like Hawaii, Bali, Australia's Gold Coast, and Portugal's Algarve region are popular among surfers for their consistent waves and vibrant surfing culture.
2. Check Surfing Conditions Timing is everything when planning a surfing trip. Check surf reports and forecasts to determine the best time to visit your chosen destination. Aim for periods with favorable wave conditions and fewer crowds for an optimal experience.
3. Flexible Travel Dates Flexibility in travel dates can significantly impact flight prices. Use flight comparison websites or apps that offer flexible date options to find the most affordable fares. Consider traveling during off-peak seasons to avoid high prices and crowded beaches.
4. Book Early Airlines often release their cheapest seats months in advance. Booking early not only ensures better prices but also provides more options in terms of flight times and connections. Set price alerts to monitor fare changes and snag the best deals as soon as they become available.
5. Pack Light and Smart Surfing gear can be bulky and expensive to transport. Check airline baggage policies and consider renting equipment at your destination to save on luggage costs. Pack essentials like rash guards, sunscreen, and swimwear in your carry-on to hit the waves as soon as you arrive.
6. Consider Layovers While direct flights are convenient, they may not always be the most economical option. Consider flights with layovers as they can sometimes be cheaper. Use this opportunity to explore a new city or rest before continuing your journey to the surf paradise.
7. Loyalty Programs and Travel Hacks Joining airline loyalty programs or using travel rewards credit cards can earn you points and miles that can be redeemed for future flights or upgrades. Keep an eye out for special promotions and last-minute deals that could make your surfing getaway more affordable.
Conclusion Booking flights for surfing getaways requires careful planning and consideration to ensure a seamless travel experience. By researching destinations, monitoring surf conditions, booking early, and packing efficiently, you can maximize your time on the waves and minimize travel stress.

Chasing Swells: Tales from the Life of a Dedicated Surfing Enthusiast
of a dedicated surfing enthusiast. Surfing is more than just a sport; it's a way of life, a profound connection with nature, and a source of endless stories and adventures. This article delves into the allure of surfing, the journey of learning to surf, the thrill of chasing the perfect wave, and the community and environmental consciousness that shape the life of a surfer.
The Allure of Surfing
Surfing has an almost mystical appeal. The allure lies in the simplicity of the sport—just a person and a board against the vast ocean. Yet, within that simplicity, there is a profound complexity. The sea is a dynamic and unpredictable force, and mastering the art of surfing requires a deep understanding and respect for it.
For many surfers, the initial draw to the sport comes from a desire to connect with nature. The ocean's power is humbling, and harnessing that power to glide across a wave is an exhilarating experience. My surfing journey began as a fascination with the ocean's beauty and an urge to immerse myself in its vastness. I remember my first surfboard, a battered old longboard, and the feeling of anticipation as I paddled out into the waves. Each wave was a lesson, each wipeout a step closer to mastering the craft.
Learning to Surf
Learning to surf is a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. The first lessons often involve falling off the board more than riding it. Yet, every fall is a step towards progress. The key is perseverance and a willingness to learn from each mistake.
I recall my early days of surfing with frustration and fondness. The waves seemed intimidating, and the balance required felt elusive. But the first time I managed to stand up on the board and ride a wave, even for a few seconds, it was a moment of pure joy. I offer beginners this advice: be patient, stay persistent, and enjoy the process. The ocean rewards those who respect its rhythms and persist in their efforts.
Chasing the Perfect Wave
The pursuit of the perfect wave is what keeps surfers coming back to the ocean. Each wave is unique, and the thrill of riding a particularly great one is incomparable. Surfing trips often become quests for these perfect waves, taking surfers to some of the world's most beautiful and remote locations.
One of my most memorable surfing trips was to the Maldives, a paradise for surfers. The crystal-clear waters and consistent swells provided the perfect conditions for surfing. I spent hours on the water, chasing waves and feeling a profound sense of freedom. Understanding wave patterns and weather conditions is crucial for finding the best waves, and it's a skill that comes with experience and a deep connection to the ocean.
The Surfing Community
Surfing is as much about community as it is about the sport itself. There is a unique camaraderie among surfers, a shared understanding, and respect for the ocean that creates strong bonds. Whether surfing at a local break or traveling to a renowned surf spot, the sense of belonging within the surfing community is palpable.
I've been able to surf with locals in places like Hawaii, Australia, and Indonesia. Each community has its own culture and traditions, but the underlying respect for the ocean and fellow surfers is a common thread. Competitions and events also play a significant role in fostering this community, providing opportunities for surfers to connect, compete, and celebrate their passion for the sport.
The Impact of Surfing on Life
Surfing has a profound impact on both physical and mental well-being. The physical demands of paddling, balancing, and riding waves provide a full-body workout. At the same time, the mental focus required to navigate the ocean's ever-changing conditions fosters mindfulness and stress relief.
For me, surfing has been a source of life lessons and personal growth. It has taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of being present in the moment. The ocean is a constant reminder of the power of nature and the need to live harmoniously with it. Balancing surfing with other aspects of life, such as work and family, can be challenging, but the rewards of a life intertwined with the ocean make it worthwhile.
Environmental Stewardship
As surfers, we have a deep connection to the ocean, and with that connection comes a responsibility to protect it. Ocean conservation is crucial for preserving the beauty and health of our marine environments. From participating in beach cleanups to advocating for policies that protect our oceans, surfers play an essential role in environmental stewardship.
I've been involved in several conservation initiatives, from local beach cleanups to supporting organizations that work towards protecting marine life. The ocean gives us so much; we must give back and ensure its preservation for future generations. I encourage all surfers and ocean lovers to get involved in conservation efforts and make a positive impact.
Surfing is a journey that goes beyond riding waves. It's about connecting with nature, embracing challenges, building community, and fostering a deep respect for the environment. The stories and experiences from a life dedicated to surfing are rich and varied, filled with moments of exhilaration, introspection, and camaraderie.
As I reflect on my journey as a surfing enthusiast, I am reminded of the endless possibilities the ocean offers. Each wave is a new adventure, and each surf session is a chance to grow and learn. For those who have yet to experience the magic of surfing, I invite you to take the plunge, chase the swells, and discover the profound joy of riding the waves.

Planning a Surfing to Maui: Which Beaches Should Be On Your List?

If you are a surfing enthusiast and looking for a place to try your hands then Maui in Hawaii is one of the most popular places because it has got some of the most pristine beaches that are considered paradise by surfers. Moreover, the height of waves that one gets to see in Maui is considered ideal for surfers.
While beaches galore in Maui there are certain places that are a must-visit for you if you are a surfer. Here in this article, we will discuss the beaches that you must visit when going to Maui for surfing.
Honolua Bay
Lahaina Harbor
Kahalui Harbor
Kaanapali Beach
Honolua Bay
Among the various beaches that are thronged by thousands of people, the Honolua Bay Beach stands out from the rest due to the waves that you will find over here for surfing. Experienced surfers often seek out the northwestern coast of Maui because it has multiple crags that are very effective in producing big waves, especially in the winter months.
The major factor that helps in producing big waves is the angle of the coastline and if the angle is perfect as is the case of Maui then you can expect perfect waves throughout the year for surfing. Moreover, apart from surfing if you are looking forward to some other water sports experience then you can also go for snorkeling activity in Honolua Bay.
Lahaina Harbor
The Lahaina Harbor in Maui is often frequented by both experienced and beginners in surfing because of its prevailing conditions. The Lahaina Harbor is a man-made harbor located on the west coast of Maui and unlike other man-made harbors that break the pattern of big waves, the Lahaina Harbor on the other hand produces big waves because of various geographical factors.
During the summer months, the south end of the water swells up and the northern end of the breakwater provides long waves that are considered perfect for surfing as they move from left to right before breaking up on the shore.
Similarly, during the winter months, the north end of the water swells up & fills the gap between Maui and Molokai and this helps in producing a series of big waves that move from right to left before breaking up in the southern end of the breakwater.
Due to the nature of the waves experienced in Lahaina Harbor, it is considered the perfect destination for both experienced and novice surfers. Most people interested in learning surfing visit the Lahaina Harbor because there are many surfing schools located nearby that provide surfing lessons to people interested in the activity.
Kahalui Harbor
One of the biggest harbors in Maui and also the largest city, the place is packed with people throughout the year and if you are professional surfer then you must straightaway head to Kahalui Harbor. The harbor presents you with different surf spots and being the largest harbor you can also get a secluded place for surfing if you want to avoid the crowd.
The entire coastline gets big waves both inside and outside the harbor and if you are a looking for a series of big waves then you must head out to the west side of the harbor.
Furthermore, the big waves that are produced at this part of the beach travel through the wide entrance with high energy sourced from the deeper channel of the harbor and this lets the waves swell up & bounce off the jetty creating a fascinating roll-in wedge in the shallow waters.
Due to the big wedge that is produced here, it is considered a paradise for professional surfers and if you are just a beginner in surfing then you must head out to Lahaina because it produces some small waves that are considered best for beginners.
Kaanapali Beach
One of the most striking beaches that you will come across in Maui is the Kaanapali Beach which not only provides you with a good surfing destination but is also a beautiful place to spend some quality time with your friends and family members.
Moreover, surfing at Kaanapali Beach is ideal for people who are trying their hands at surfing for the first time. The beach is situated at a prime location in Maui making it convenient for people to visit it whenever they like.
Finally
If you are thinking that these are the only beaches in Maui that are fit for surfing then you are mistaken because there are countless other beaches on the island that are best for surfing. However, we have compiled this list keeping in mind the requirements of all categories of surfers from the novices to the professionals everyone’s query is being taken care of.

North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii
seashore during golden hour
Photo by Sean Oulashin on Unsplash
The North Shore of Oahu - famous for its surfing, snorkeling, and of course the fifty-one beaches that stretch for more than 11 miles along this incredible expanse of Oahu coastline.
If the perfect wave exists, you’ll find it on Oʻahu’s North Shore. The towering, glassy winter waves of this legendary surf mecca draw the best surfers in the world, while smaller and gentler summer waves are better for beginners.
Stretching for more than 7 miles, the beaches of the North Shore host the world’s premier surfing competitions during the peak winter months, including the biggest of them all, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing (November - December). Waimea Bay, ʻEhukai Beach (Banzai Pipeline) and Sunset Beach are great places to sunbathe and stroll along the shore—just leave surfing the huge waves to the pros because they can be very dangerous for inexperienced surfers.

Surfs up - JJ Maybank x reader
Pairing: JJ Maybank x Female!reader
Word count: 3,128 (I got a bit carried away)
Warnings: lots of fluff, a steamy make out, and swearing
Summary: JJ is in desperate need of a job, and you have a dream to learn to surf. What happens when you offer JJ a job for your dad with a wage he can’t say no to as long as he teaches you how to surf.
A/n: send in requests for JJ and Rafe, and I’d also be willing to write for John B. and Pope. Also I’ve only been surfing a couple times so if I got some stuff wrong I apologize, I’m just going off what my dad taught me last time we went on vacation to California.
All you wanted to do was learn how to surf. You begged your dad to buy you a board, and after weeks of trying to convince him he finally gave in. Most likely because you would mention how you wanted one every chance you could. Unfortunately though none of your friends had any desire to surf instead they preferred to swim in their pools or play golf at the country club. You were determined to learn how to surf, but you were also too scared to do it alone which put you in a bit of a predicament.
You were currently at the surf hot spot sitting on a towel next to your brand new board watching the surfers from a distance. You didn’t see a familiar face until you saw a certain blonde boy you recognized from parties. You knew his name was JJ, you also were aware that he was troublemaker, and he was a pogue and you knew that, but he was a damn good surfer. You watched him ride practically every wave, and you were truly impressed, and the moment he stepped out of the water you decided that you would ask him to teach you. You lifted yourself from the towel and made your way towards the soaking wet boy.
“Hey, you’re JJ right” you asked, startling him. His eyes were looking at you like you were crazy.
“Um yes why are you talking to me” he questioned.
“Well for one I have a right to talk to anyone I want, and I need your help” you stated and he just stared at you dumbfoundingly.
“What makes you think I would help you with anything kook” he scuffed.
“I want you to teach me how to surf” you said standing a confident front.
“Yeah, definitely not, I don’t have time to teach you how to surf because I just lost my job, and even if I didn’t just lose my job I would rather drown than have to spend time with a selfish kook like you” he retorted and began to walk away. You weren’t going to lie that kind of hurt. You usually weren’t talked to like that and for some reason you were really upset that he hated you, and he didn’t even know you. Although he hurt your feelings you were determined to make this work. You remembered your dad was looking for some to tend to the boat and do yard work, so you were going to offer him a job with a high starting price you’d convince your dad to pay him under the condition that he taught you how to surf.
“I can get you a job that pays really well” you blurted, and he whipped his head to turn back and look at you.
“What”
“My dad is looking for someone to tend to our boats, and do yard work type of stuff, and I can convince him to pay whatever you ask as long as it's reasonable” you declared.
“I’m assuming the catch is I have to teach you how to surf” he guessed, walking back towards you.
“You would 100% correct JJ, and my board is already here, so we can even start today” you smiled hopefully, and JJ couldn’t help but admire your determination.
“Fine, and then after that we settle this job thing” he nodded, and he followed you to your board.
“So I waxed it like the internet said, and I’ve watched videos, but the reason I asked you is because I’d rather have someone helping me in real life to make sure I don’t drown” you laughed picking up your surfboard.
“None of your kook friends are willing to surf” he smirked, and you turned around rolling your eyes to see him sitting on your towel obviously checking you out.
“No, and eyes on my face buddy” and he just laughed. You started to walk towards the water and he didn’t follow. “Are you coming” you yelled.
“I don’t know where you're going, but if you never surfed before I have to teach you how to get up outside the water first”
“And you decided to let me walk away instead of telling me” you snapped stomping back towards him.
“It's a nice view when you walk away” he flirted, and you rolled your eyes.
“You’re disgusting” you spat, but started laughing, and he laughed along with you. He grabbed the board from you and placed it on the sand. He placed his board next to yours, and laid down on it. He then looked up at you gesturing to you the same. You got down on the board, and laid down then turning your head to face him.
“Alright so It’s quite simple getting up, the hard part is balancing” he explained. “So what you are going to do is place both your hands on the board, and then you are going to use you arms to push yourself up almost like a jump, and once you get both of your feet planted you lift your hands up, and try to balance as best as you can” he showed you the motions after explaining, and you were paying attention, but you couldn’t help but watch the way his muscles contracted. The boy was hot that's for sure, and you couldn’t deny that. “Alright now you try”
You placed your hands on the board, and bounced up standing on both your feet, and looked at him to see his reaction. “So how was that” you asked.
“Good but you have to stand more like this” he suggested trying to show you, but you weren’t getting it. He walked up to you and it looked like he wanted to touch you to help your position because he was hesitant.
“You know you can touch me I don’t bite” you laughed, and his face got a bit red which made your heart skip a beat. He grabbed both your arms placing them how they should be. He then instantly grabbed your bare waist moving it to the side. Everywhere he touched made your skin feel on fire. You hadn’t realized it, but you haven’t been touched by a boy in ages, and you were craving touch which intensified the feeling even more. Once he was satisfied with your position he stepped back, and told you to try again, but have this be your ending position. You tried again multiple times until you finally got it, and you ecstatic. You gave JJ a high five, and jumped back on the board doing it again. “So can we try in the water now?” you asked.
“Not today” he said and you frowned. “But tomorrow we will because I got to get home, and tomorrow I hope you will have everything settled about the job”
“Of course I’ll meet you here tomorrow at 12:00 sharp got it”
“Sounds good to me princess” he winked, adn with that he picked up his board and left the beach, leaving you wanting more.
--
It was 11:45 and you were already at the beach. Your dad had agreed to hire JJ at the rate he wanted since he was also teaching you how to surf, and he told you to bring JJ over to start after your surfing lesson. You placed the surfboard on the sand, and began practicing what you did yesterday, when you heard a voice from behind you.
“Ah you’re a great student, getting here early, and practicing” he laughed, and you turned around sticking your tongue out.
“I’m extremely determined” you stated.
“I can tell,” he chuckled.
“You said we can go into the water today so where's your board” you asked.
“I’m teaching you how to surf, I'm not surfing with you. I’m gonna take you out in the water, and push the board for you to help you get momentum” he said while he took his shirt off. You tried so hard not to watch, but you couldn’t help yourself. You were practically gawking at his body, but before you could tell you shook your head looking down at the ground. You already had the rope attached to your board around your ankle, and you had your board held to the side. He began walking towards the water, and you followed suit. You enter the water and the cold makes you shiver. Once you got about waist deep JJ had you get on the board.
“Alright there aren’t big waves today so this is a perfect day for a beginner. Once I see a potential wave I’ll push you, and I’m going to have you paddle, and try to get up. You aren’t going to get it right away so don’t get too frustrated Y/n”
“Sounds good to me” you smiled. Once JJ got you far enough into the water he stopped, and was holding onto your board using it to float as you waited.
“So what got you so inspired to learn to surf” he asked. His face was pretty close to yours because he was using the front of your board to float.
“My brother is going to college in Hawaii right now, and he surfs literally all the time, and whenever we talk he tells me how amazing, and cool it is. I just want to be able to do it so when I go visit him or when he comes home I can show him that I can do something besides tan at the pool since he seems to think I can’t do anything besides that” you ranted as the board went over small waves.
“So you’re learning how to surf to prove a point” he asked.
“Well kind of, and I don’t want people to think I’m just your usual kook who doesn’t challenge themselves to do anything, and gets everything handed to them” you sighed.
“I admire that you know, thats says a lot about you as a person, and I haven’t met really any kooks with that mind set”
“So you don’t hate me” you asked
“I never said I hated you”
“I don’t know” you trailed “our first interaction you definitely seemed like you hated me”
“Well now I know you're not the average kook so I tolerate you” he laughed, and you rolled your eyes playfully pushing him from the board. He went under for a second and then popped back up looking into the horizon. “Looks like we got some good waves coming”
“Finally” you laughed.
“Remember what I said, once you are riding the wave and feel ready try, and stand up like we were doing on the beach no fancy moves just ride the wave straight to shore and i'll meet you where you fall okay”
“Sounds good” and with that he began to push you and you paddled, and began to get carried by the wave. You felt ready, and placed your hands on the board, and tried jumping up, and the second you released your hand you went crashing into the water the board flying in the air. You swam to the surface, and you heard JJ holler.
“Are you okay”
“Yep” you yelled back, swimming to meet him halfway.
“Alright so now I’m actually going to teach you to duck dive so when we are coming out, and there are actually waves you won’t get toppled by them” he said and you nodded. “It super simple, so I see some wave coming so when they get to us you are going to push the board down with your hands, and dive under the wave, and don’t worry I’ll help you”
“That sounds much easier than standing up on the board” giggled, and he laughed as well. When the wave came he gave you a reassuring smile, and you held your breath as he helped you dive under the wave.
After a couple more waves you were able to do it by yourself. You then tried surfing about ten more waves where you stood for one to two seconds, and then wiped out. You were definitely going to have bruises, but you were honestly having fun. It had definitely been over an hour so you told JJ you would try one more wave, and then the two of you would head to your house so JJ could start his job.
“Alright you ready” he asked.
“My arms, and legs feel like they are going to give out at any moment, but I’m ready as I’ll ever be”, you breathed.
“I’ll meet you at the shore” he said as he pushed you into the waves. You slowly placed your feet down, and they wobbled a bit, but this time you were able to stand, and you were doing it. It was nothing fancy you were just going straight forward, but you were standing on the board as the wave took you towards the the shore. You could hear JJ cheering you on, and then you jumped off the board once the wave had died swimming to shore a smile from ear to ear. Once JJ reached the shore he gave you a bog smiled, and you ran to him giving him a hug.
“I DID IT” you squealed into his wet body.
“I’m impressed for a newbie” he laughed when you pulled away, and once your excitement died down you were a bit embarrassed, by your outburst, and the hug. You both stared at each other awkwardly for a second and then you turned around to go dry yourself off. Both you got dressed, and then headed to your jeep, and he took his motorcycle following you to your house. Once you reached your house he took his helmet off walking to the jeep to meet you.
“My dad is actually quite nice just don’t be a dick, do what he says, and you’ll be fine”
“Yes Ma’am” he replied sarcastically, and you just stared at him annoyed until you both laughed.
“Also I’m definitely going to be sore tomorrow so surfing lessons will have to resume in couple days”
“Sounds good to me princess just let me know” every time he called you princess it gave you butterflies and you hated it. You walked him to your dad, and introduced the two, and then walked into your room JJ on your mind. You were interested to see where this friendship was going to go. He was much different than your kook friends and you liked that.
--
After about a month you and JJ had gotten pretty close. You were now pretty decent at surfing, and didn’t need a teacher, so now JJ was just surfing with you. You weren’t just surfing anymore either. You would go get smoothies after, and after he was done working the 2 of you would sometimes hang out, and you had for sure developed a pretty big crush on the blonde surfer boy. There was for sure tension between the two of you. It was obvious. The stolen glaces, the unnecessary touches. You felt on cloud nine when you were with him.
Currently you were tanning on a towel at the beach waiting for JJ to arrive to surf with you. You had on a bikini, and you had sunglasses on.
“Blue is definitely your color babe” you heard immediately knowing who it was. You sat up taking off your sunglasses to squint and look at JJ.
“What did I say about checking me out”
“You wish I checked you out Y/n” he laughed, and you stood up getting close to him, and whispered in his ear.
“No need to be embarrassed I check you out too” and you watched his body go visibly stiff, and when you backed up his face was bright red, and you laughed, and grabbed your surfboard, and headed to the water JJ following behind you. The wave were dead, so once the two of you had paddled far enough you stopped and sat up.
“Do you ever get scared you are going to get attacked by a shark, because I feel like I think about that way too much” you rattled off randomly.
“I mean I don’t really think about that” he laughed at your randomness.
“How though, were sitting in an ocean full of sharks that are hungry, and we technically are easy prey since we swim like one mile per hour, and not to mention we look like seals just chilling out here with our boards” you explained
“I mean when you put it like that I guess I’m a little scared of getting bit by a shark”
“See its a rational fear” you started but JJ pushed you off your board to scare you, and he was bored since no waves were coming.
“JJ” you squealed, and swam to his board flipping him off, and you went under the water popping up right next to you laughing.
“Sorry I was bored” he laughed, and you playfully wacked him. After your laughter stopped you realized how close you were. Your legs were practically touching, and your faces were inches away from each other. You longed to kiss him, and you craved his touch. You weren’t exactly sure where the confidence you had today was coming from, but you decided to let it go to waste so you connected your lips making JJ eyes widen, but he immediately began to reciprocate the movement of your lips against yours. One of his hands went to your waist pulling you into his body. Your arms wrapped around his neck playing with his wet hair. You wrapped your legs around him, and pulled him as close as possible. One of his hands used his surfboard to hold him up, and the other hesitantly moved from your waist to your ass, and squeezed, and you moaned into the kiss. JJ slipped his tongue into your mouth, and you both battled for dominance, him quickly winning. You pulled away slowly resting your forehead against his. When you opened your eyes he was still closed. He was staying the moment for as long as he could. JJ wanted to do that the second you approached him on the beach a month ago. When he opened his eyes y/e/c met his blue orbs, and you smiled. He smiled back, and kissed you one more time slowly, and full of love.
“So I was right you like me too” you breathed.
“Was it that obvious” he asked
“The constant checking me out gave it away” you giggled.
“How about we surf to shore, and you let me take you out on a date” he said cupping your face, and you melted into his touch. You pecked his lips, and separated from his body.
“Last one there is a rotten egg” you yelled hopping onto your surfboard, and you paddled away a smile on your face, because not only did you get a surfboard you got a boyfriend too.

Surfing Tips For Beginners

Surfing is an indoor water sport in which a person, typically a surfer, applies a surfboard to a flat surface, typically a surfing wave, that takes the surfer to the edge, or the bottom, of an extremely moving eddy pool of water. Unlike most other water games, surfing at its most basic level, involves nothing more than the individual being able to move his body relatively quickly. When the player reaches the edge he is said to "surf", or "kick out". The actual act of surfing is very similar to playing a sport like beach volleyball, where the player will use his body as a springboard and attempt to shoot the ball into the hoop of the net, hopefully hitting it back out for a point.
Because surfing is an exercise in flexibility and balance, it can be difficult to watch without becoming intensely interested in learning how to surf. There are several different types of waves used in surfing, all of which have distinct characteristics relating to their potential impact on surfers. It is therefore important to become familiar with the different kinds of waves present in a particular surfing zone so that you are better prepared to cope with and possibly avoid these potential hazards.
In terms of the actual waves available to surf, it is best to try out your skills in smaller locales before trying them out in the ocean. There are many places throughout the world that offer surfing opportunities on small, calm water, such as beaches. You can also try your hand at surfing in the Southern California beaches. However, the waves in these locations are typically much stronger, much larger, and oftentimes more unpredictable. It is often best to try out surfing in waves that are not too big, and that are less likely to break when you are riding on your surfboard. These conditions are more likely to help you develop the skills necessary to control your surfing vessel in such adverse weather conditions. Click over here Juno Beach Surf
As you progress from being a beginner to an intermediate surfer and beyond, you will want to be sure to check out the topography of the ocean floor where you are planning to surf. Most beginners begin their surfing travels in Northern California, Northern Hawaii, and along the Eastern seaboard of the United States. The types of waves they face and the elevations they encounter will depend on the type of waves they will face as well as the elevations of the ocean floor itself. These conditions are known as "the meter" and "wave height." Learning about the metering and the height of waves can make all the difference between a fun day of learning how to surf and a life-threatening crisis.
Groundswell is often an unavoidable risk when you are surfing in unfamiliar territory. Ocean floor currents are complex and often unpredictable, sometimes even when you are aware of what lies beneath. Wave height is also another element involved in surfing that can vary based on the topography. For example, certain wave heights are good in certain environments while others are dangerous in others. If you are entering the water on a flat shoreline, waves break closer to the surface, but if you are coming in on a steep slope or approaching shore at a turn, groundswell makes the waves much higher, sometimes even up to the eye level!
Fins are an important component of your surfboard. Different surfboard materials have different weights and provide different tipping stresses and reactions. Choices include fiberglass, wood, steel, carbon fiber, and composite materials. Fiberglass fins are light, cost effective, and forgiving when it comes to beach breaks. Wood is great for getting a soft feel under your foot, but the flexing of wood fins can lead to being painfully smacked by a large surfboard tip.
Tip size and shape are two other important considerations in choosing a surfboard. Fins with tapered tips tend to have more of an impact on your surfing performance than a flat tip, and larger fins with a little tip will give you more of an advantage in flatwater. The right surfboard shape can vary from hardtail, which are long and narrow for a flat shore, to freestyle, which is shorter and has a more generous lip. Some surfers who perform their best in windy conditions like to surf in an "S" shape, with the tail of the board pointing out towards the rider.
While surfing, you should wear all the appropriate clothing for your skill level, available in your local sporting goods store. Tops need to be breathable to allow air to flow through them; bottoms need to be firm to help avoid injury, but flexible. Hats, t-shirts, and shorts should always be wearing with water shoes to prevent damage to the surfboard. Surfing boards come in different lengths depending on the type of surf you are doing. You can rent surfboards at most sporting goods stores. However, surfboards can also be bought directly from manufacturers if you are a skilled surfer and have access to specialized surfboard equipment.
