Claire/Steve uwu
name:       sophia-lily  sarah  rogers   gender:      female
general appearance:        sheâs on the dark side of blonde hair, she also has the biggest doe type eyes you could ever see. she normally has her hair down with a slight curl to it. however, she has more of a look of steve than she does of claire.personality:         shy, she isnât as loud mouth as her mother nor has the confidence of her father, tends to hide behind the legs of her parents when growing up  ⌠ however, she is kindhearted and shares the same interests of being completely devoted to family, like claire isspecial talents:          claire would never force her child into anything like her mother did to her with dance, however, sophia ended up becoming quite interest in horse riding  ⌠ so her talent is training horses (  and most likely having some weird strength situation like steve from inheritance )who they like better:           steve for sure, heâs captain america and thatâs her father ? she finds him unbeatable and amazing, since with claire probably just seems like a spokesperson now going around america talking about the dangers of b.o.w.s, she quit the rest of her work, no longer leaving the country, no longer killing the undead, she wants to be a mother and she makes sure she spends most of her time with sophia. so, the child really has no idea what claire did in her past.who they take after more:          when she isnât around strangers and that shy side is gone, itâs probably 100% claire, she has claireâs mannerism, including that cheesy sense of humour, however, steve is in there  ⌠ with his righteousness and somewhat leadership, if she gets more confidence in herself, she will surely become someone who can lead people into greatness.Â
personal headcanon:          this is the only time claire shelters someone from the truth of the world, since claire has quit most of the stuff terrasave does, apart from the amount of paperwork and lectures she does, she does tell sophia some stuff, however, tells her just to call for her or her father and theyâll come running straight away. claire is constantly more scared that her family can be taken away from her in a snap of a finger, so she stays close, sheâs more of a stay at home mother, she does her paperwork at home and every couple of weeks goes to another state gives a lecture and comes straight back to her family. sheâs there to protect it, and to protect sophia along with steve. natasha, bucky, chris and barry, are all the godparents of sophia.Â

When in Love (Sam Wilson x Reader)
A/N: I love Sam Wilson period.Â
ULTIMATE MASTERLISTÂ
REQUEST SOME PROMPTS
Summary: Bucky did indeed flirt with Samâs sister again........and now theyâre getting married. Sam brought you as his date to their big day.Â
âItâs not too late to get Carlos,â Sam said as you straightened his tie, Sam could do it by himself but then he wouldnât have an excuse to have you near him.Â
âIâm pretty sure people would notice if the groom werenât to make an appearance.â You said as you finished straightening his tie, letting your hands linger there for a while as you looked up into his dark eyes.Â
âDonât know unless we try.â Sam half heartedly said. He was only half joking, for the past few years he saw Sarah happier than she had been in years. He knew Bucky treated her well and that he loved the kids as well. Sam knew Bucky would never hurt them.Â
Didnât mean that Sam didnât have Carlos on speed dial and an alibi set up just in case.Â
(Y/n) lightly smacked her hand against Samâs chest as he laughed. His warm dark eyes lit up as he looked at her.Â
(Y/n) smiled and rolled her eyes. She had gotten ready before driving over and Sam couldnât help but think of how beautiful she was in sky blue.Â
Sam had been nervous when he asked (Y/n) to be his date to Sarah and Buckyâs wedding. He knew she wasnât one for parties where she didnât know anyone but she had surprised him by accepting.Â
âWe have a wedding to get to.â You drew him from his thoughts while grabbing your clutch on the bed and walking out the door to wait for him. You had no idea the effect on Sam, even the way your hips sway when you walked away drove him insane.Â
Sam took a deep breath in to calm his nerves as he readied himself mentally. Sam was not only going to be one of Buckyâs groomsmen but also the one giving Sarah away.Â
Their father was the one to give her away the first time she got married, and now since their father had passed Sam was the only one left for the job.Â
Sam gathered his thoughts and headed out of the bedroom and down the stairs to see your figure waiting for him patiently at the bottom.Â
You hear the stairs creak under his feet and look up. You had always thought he looked attractive, but put that man in a suit and your knees began growing weak.Â
You barely managed to tear your eyes away from him for a second as he reached the bottom of the stairs.
âReady?â you asked, trying to keep your voice even.Â
âReady.âÂ
---
The wedding had been beautiful, it was held at the church. The aisle and booths were decorated with white flowers and ribbons.Â
On Buckyâs side there was Dora Milaje and TâChalla. Along with Thor, Brunheilda, and the Guardians. Rocket was mostly looking at Buckyâs metal arm though.Â
The Ceremony had been just as beautiful, Sarah walked down the aisle in a beautiful white gown which made Bucky tear up with Sam. AJ and Cass were already by Buckyâs side, after all Bucky had named them his Best Men.Â
While Sarah and Bucky said their vows Samâs gaze couldnât help but wonder to you. You were seated by Sarahâs side of the church along with almost everyone in town. You smiled and wiped a few tears as the vows got increasingly emotional. You had been seated near a glass stained window and all of its colors bathed you in itâs light. You just got more beautiful the longer he looked at you.Â
Suddenly your eyes had met with his, and he felt his heart stop and breathing suddenly became difficult. It wasnât unwelcomed though, in fact it was quite the opposite. Sam didnât look away and neither did you. You both had stared at each other until Sam decided to be bold and wink and flash his intoxicating smile. You smiled bashfully before winking back and tearing your eyes from his to focus back to the stars of the day as Sam did the same thing.Â
The reception was back at the house, Sam and a few other people from town helped set up the yard yesterday. Making an area for dancing, dining, food, socializing. Decorating it with magnolias and fairy lights and it looked stunning.Â
The sun had almost begun to set by the time everyone got back to the house to enjoy the party.Â
Bucky and Sarah did their first dance as husband and wife to an old 1940â˛s song and was later joined by AJ and Cass. Bucky had gone above and beyond to make sure the boys had been included in everything.Â
After their dance ended, something faster paced began to play and almost everyone began to make their way to the dance floor. You and Sam being among them. Sam had twirled you around and danced with you until it was time for the toasts to begin.Â
âI just want to thank everyone who came here today,â Bucky began to speak on the microphone, a beer in his hand. âI especially want to thank AJ and Cass for letting me into their lives, and my beautiful wife Sarah.â Bucky paused and gave her a wink, Sarah winked back and smiled. âI promise to uphold my vows and protect and love you and the boys with everything I have.â He raised his beer bottle in cheers before taking a quick swig out of it.Â
AJ and Cass had performed their toast next, welcoming him into their family and just an overall sweet speech which ended with Bucky in tears for the second time that day. It made your heart swell to see Bucky so happy after all these years he had to endure alone and tortured. He deserved this, they all did. Sarah, Bucky, Cass, and Aj deserved to be happy together.Â
A few other people gave speeches before Sam gave his. Even Rocket gave an impromptu speech.Â
âCan I have that arm now?â
âNo.â
âIâm getting that arm.âÂ
You saw a quick look of fear cross Buckyâs face as Rocket was approached by Dora Milaje and struggled to hold in a small laugh.Â
Sam made his way up the stage to give his speech. He straightened his jacket before grabbing the microphone.Â
âSarah as your brother I am so proud of you and I know if Dad and Mom were here they would say the exact same thing. They would be proud of the woman and of the mother you have become.â Sam said with tears at the corners of his eyes at the mention of their parents, Sarah wiped her tears away as well. âBucky as your friend I know Steve would be as proud and as happy for you as I am. Happy that you have finally found your peace and I welcome you to the family with open arms.â He raised his glass to Bucky who returned the favor. âAlthough I do recall telling you not to flirt with my sister,â laughter then ensued as Bucky chuckled and shook his head. âAs Sarahâs brother,â Sam then motioned to Carlos sitting at one of the tables, âI want you to know that itâs not too late for me to get Carlos to feed you to the fish if necessary.â Carlos then waved and laughed at the groom who returned the favor. âtreat her and the boys well and I guess weâre no longer co workers.â Laughter erupted as Sam took a drink in congratulations as did everyone else.Â
---
As the party began to die down you had snuck out the pier to get some fresh air away from everyone.Â
It wasnât like you didnât enjoy their company and didnât get to meet some pretty interesting people. It was just you needed a moment to yourself to relax. You were an introvert at heart and so many people at once tended to overwhelm you sometimes.Â
You watched as the water moved gracefully, breathing in time with it. The lights from the party reflected in the water and the music could still be heard although softer now.Â
You didnât even seem to notice a certain man making his way to you before you heard a silent âoh shitâ.Â
If Sam thought you had looked beautiful before, now you were angelic. The sun had long before set and now your figure was illuminated by the faint lights of the party and the moon. It gave you an almost ethereal glow as he noticed your hands fidgeting. A habit he noticed a long time ago, you always have to do something with your hands. He honestly found it cute.Â
Sam had been so caught up in you that he hadnât noticed a little loose board and nearly tripped over himself.Â
Your hands stopped moving as you saw Sam holding onto the wooden railing of the pier for dear life. You laughed a little at Samâs embarrassed expression as he tried to walk it off as though it didnât happen.Â
You looked back out to the water as Sam finally made his way to your side. Out of the side of your eye you caught a glimpse at the man beside you. The light of the party and the moon made him look romantic, and you noticed that at some point in the night Sam discarded his tie and jacket, rolled the sleeves up his forearms and unbuttoned a button or two on his shirt. He started fidgeting with the watch on his wrist as you both look at the water dancing.Â
You could hear the upbeat music from the party change to another slow dance.Â
âYou wanna dance?âÂ
You turned and saw Sam with his hand out, ready to take your hand if you accepted. Which you did.Â
Slowly you and Sam moved with the beat, the music was quiet and the lights had made the moment all the more romantic.Â
Sam held your hand in one and his other hand went to your waist, pulling you flush against him making your heart beat out your chest.Â
Neither of you said a word, Sam hummed in tune with the song as you smiled at him.Â
Samâs heart was beating out of his chest, usually he was smooth. Usually Sam had no trouble speaking to ladies, but it seemed as though you were the exception.Â
A couple of seconds passed before Sam finally broke the silence.Â
âUsually I can speak just fine in front of someone,â He started his deep voice quiet, âbut now I canât seem to speak without getting all tongue tied.â
You laughed a little at that, Sam loved your laugh. He couldnât understand why but your laugh always seemed to put him in a better mood.Â
âWhatâs so funny?â Sam asked with a smile on his face, you wondered if his smile would ever stop making your heart beat faster.Â
âItâs just something my Mum used to tell me,â you explained, âwhat you just said reminded me of it.â
âTell me.â He said his eyes focused on you, eyes reflecting the light from the reception. You looked down bashfully before meeting his eyes again.Â
âWhen in love speech becomes meaningless.âÂ
Samâs dark eyes stared into yours intensely as if you had become the only thing left in the world.Â
For a moment you wonder if you had misread the signs, maybe you had scared him. Panic starts to fill you as you begin to apologize before his hands move from their places at your waist and hand to either side of your face and kiss you.Â
The first thing you noticed was that Sam tasted of beer and spice. The next thing you noticed was how soft his lips were on yours and how gently he moved against you.Â
You had been so lost in the kiss that you hadnât noticed the music dying down and the lights going out, all there was, was you and him.Â
You both pulled away reluctantly and watched as the moonlight reflected off the water. Content with not speaking another word and just holding each other in peace.

âI Am YEG Artsâ Series: Kristi Hansen
Kristi Hansen. If the name sounds familiar, itâs for good reason. Sheâs an actor, creator, and advocate for inclusivity whoâs disrupting traditional leadership models to create opportunities for equity-seeking communities. Impressed? So was the Edmonton Artistsâ Trust Fund committee, who recently recognized her as one of their 2020 award recipients. But thatâs not the only place you might know her from. If youâre lucky, you saw her in The Silver Arrow or Woodyâher one-woman show that compares and contrasts her life as an amputee to other amputees (real and imagined) around the world. But as impressive as what she does may be, her greatest accolade is who she is. A person unafraid to look deeper, feel deeper, question deeper, and present truths that arenât always put forward.
Actor, teacher, co-conspirator, and self-proclaimed brat in the makingâthis weekâs âI Am YEG Artsâ story belongs to Kristi Hansen.
Of all the titles used to describe you and what you do, which do you use to describe yourself? Is there one you hope to add?
I have started to refer to myself as a âco-conspiratorâ when entering an art practice. I am always hungry for a collective process and am constantly looking for how each artistic process can create an ensemble of co-conspirators who develop a language and community agreement for how we want to work. I am drawn to other co-conspirators who are âbratsâ (artists who are constantly finding ways to gently subvert and find new pathways in the process). It is my greatest aspiration to be a brat. ; )
What was it about the arts that made you feel it could be your community?
I had a sneaky feeling when venturing into my life as an artist that as someone who never really had a community growing up, the arts could be my place where people werenât afraid to look deeper, feel deeper, question deeper, and present the truths that werenât always being put forward.
What keeps you choosing Edmonton as your place to live and work?
I came to Edmonton in 1999 to study at the Grant MacEwan Theatre Arts program without any real sense of how special a place Edmonton is. I didnât imagine myself still being here 22 years later, and yet the more places I work outside of Edmonton, the more I canât imagine myself calling anywhere else home. After Grant MacEwan, I went to the University of Albertaâs BFA Acting program and continued to meet folks within the Edmonton theatre and arts community who inspired me with their DIY punk attitudes. Iâve always been attracted to folks who make their own paths, and Edmonton artists seemed ripe with that resilience and subversion. I always felt like transformation, curiosity, and FUN were at the center of so much of the work in YEG. I got hitched to a really cool Edmonton artist (Sheldon Elter), I bought a very affordable house in the Alberta Avenue neighbourhood (which I love), I can bike downtown in seven minutes, I have a great dog, and I get to work with so many different companies in so many different artistic mediums. I am truly #LivingTheDream.

More people are wanting to build inclusive communities and spaces that donât existâlike what you did with The Maggie Tree. Tell us about that experience and the first steps you took to make it happen.
Inspired by the Edmonton âIf you are looking for an opportunity, create it yourself!â creation method Iâd seen in so many other Edmonton artists and art companies, my friend Vanessa Sabourin and I saw a need for more women theatre artists to work and create together and to be IN CHARGE of their own productions and careers. We started an ad-hoc womenâs theatre company, The Maggie Tree, in 2007. We had no money, but we had a community of supporters: Azimuth Theatre had a small space at the time that they rented to us for a cut of our box office. Vanessaâs dad built the set for us. Edmonton art superstars Amber Borotsik and Lori Gawryluik joined us in the process. Lori let us use the Artery (which she was running at the time) for a fundraiser. Then we did a run of a show. People came. And then we were a theatre company. It grew from there.
We learned how to write grants. We learned and continue to learn how feminism is intersectional and how to be inclusive and welcoming to gender diverse humans and other equity-seeking communities in our practice of what we want our inclusive, feminist theatre company to be. I often get to sit down with young artists who want to know âhow to do it.â Honestly:
1. Find a thing you want to do.
2. Find a place where you can do it.
3. Commit to dates.
Thatâs the foundation. Once you have those three things, youâre off to the races. Not to simplify the other producing aspects of getting something together (all that grant writing, contract building, budgeting, policy creation, and marketing stuff is hard), but I honestly find once I have the three basics decided, I am flying.
Is there a particular piece of feedback you lean on when days are tough?
Iâve had the good fortune of working with many amazing artists who have given me GREAT advice/feedback over the years, but I want to offer a mantra that I came up with years ago (Ha! How hilariously self-congratulatory of me, but itâs honestly my go-to) that serves me well any time I enter a new artistic process: We are going to try some things: Some of them will work, some of them will not, and we are going to keep trying. This mantra keeps me going on the tough days, and keeps me brave when I want to retreat into the safety of what is already known and maybe not as interesting.
Tell us about the role funding and awards have played in your career. What doors do they open?
I first started writing grants for The Maggie Tree as an individual artist to fund our productions. I learned the art of grant writing from Vanessa Sabourin, Steve Pirot, Murray Utas, and Vern Thiessen: All brilliant artist and producers who know how to weave an undeniable narrative and craft a beautifully specific budget. The Maggie Tree started being successful in our asks for Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and Canada Council for the Arts grants. This enabled us to engage more and more artists in our projects and to start moving into being able to offer equity contracts for artists and to create viable work opportunities for Edmonton artists. These grants allowed me to advance myself as an artist and producer and to be able to PAY myself for the art I was creating and/or producing. Iâve been lucky enough to receive a few awards in my career that have helped to launch my profile as an artist locally, provincially, and nationally, and I am grateful to now be known inside and outside of Edmonton artist circles.
Grants and awards offer artists the opportunity to create their own opportunities and to expand their profile so OTHER folks can offer them opportunities, as well. Before you know it thereâs a career in the arts in front of you.
What excites you most about the YEG arts scene right now?
I am constantly inspired by the younger generations of YEG artists coming up. I am here for the push for a kinder, more inclusive, more transparent workplaces (cuz letâs face it: Art is WORK, and as much as we love our art, we are still workers). I am excited for new art spaces: CO*LAB, the new Roxy⌠Iâm also pretty hyped for new performance technologies being created right here in YEG with Moment Discovery.

Tell us about your workshops and commitment to being an educator/mentor. What do you hope people will take away?
I am pretty into the idea of educating/mentoring folks by being led by them and the artist they are. Iâm not interested in people changing themselves into what they think is marketable or palatable for whoever their âaudienceâ is. I want them to be the best and most authentic THEM they can be in their work. When I work with a group of humans, I am most interested in ensemble training and dismantling hierarchy in groups. I return to the idea of the co-conspirator and the brats: How can we work together? What agreements need to be made in order for us to do our best work together? What are the rules? And when do we know itâs time to break the rules (cue the brat)?
I had the good fortune of many wonderful mentors who taught me so many important lessons and also taught me things that no longer serve me. I hope that for any of the folks I have helped mentor that they take anything that I pass on that is useful and let go of anything that is not or that no longer serves them in their practice. We are all on our own artistic journeys, but it is as a communityâor ensembleâthat we grow and move forward. Ultimately, we need each other.
Youâve talked about the importance of artists generating opportunities for other artists. Can you speak to that a little more?
I truly believe this is the way it works. When you care for your community, the community cares for you and those you keep bringing into the circle. I also think itâs important to nudge people when you see opportunities that could be good for them. Let them know youâre thinking of them. They may not have the confidence to apply on their own, but that little push can go a long way. There is nothing more encouraging as an artist than to know that someone else believes in you and your work.
Whoâs someone inspiring you right now?
Iâm pretty inspired by Carly Neis, Cynthia Jimenez-Hicks, and Cameron Kneteman (along with producer Mac Brock) as they continue to workshop and produce their new TYA play focusing on disability, Tune to A. They are being giant brats and being kind all over the place on this one, and I couldnât be more proud of the accessible practice model they are building in their process.
Describe your perfect day in Edmonton. How do you spend it?
Breakfast on my patio in Alberta Avenue, putzing in my garden, taking the dog on a bike ride through Dawson Park, a piece of cheesecake from Otto, seeing a show (art show, theatre show, music show), then finishing the night off with a beer and burger from the Next Act. Iâm a simple creature, really. ; )

Compromise (Part One)
Pairing: Bucky x Reader
Chapter Warnings:Â Mom!Reader, Dad!Bucky, Ex-Relationship, Co-Parenting Drama, Angst, Fluff
Summary:Â You didnât want to trust him again, because every time you did, Bucky broke your heart just a little more. Deep down, though, you wanted to get along with him. You wanted to be amicable. You wanted your daughter to know her father. Youâd always wanted that. It just required a compromise.
I really donât need to be working on yet another WIP but here I am, like a clown!
It all started with some of the best sex youâd ever had in your life. You know the kind: rough and desperate. Needy. Passionate. The kind straight out of a romance novel, blazing hot and full of love. The kind that, even four years later, served as inspiration for your fantasies â even if you despised the man responsible.
No, that was a lie. You didnât despise him. You just wished that you did.
It made your toes curl then, and the memory of it still did, even now. The only difference was that you used a toy. That was all you could do, because in between your job managing a small cafĂŠ and your three-year-old daughterâs care, you had zero time for dating. You were Winnieâs mother and primary caregiver, because of course you were.Â
Her father was the Winter Soldier, after all.
The two of you split when Winnie was just thirteen months old. Unsurprisingly, the court didnât give Bucky custody, not when so much of his past was bound by red tape. You knew that it wasnât his fault, the things heâd done, but you were still surprised heâd gotten anything at all. Not only was Avenging a dangerous line of work, but it was the exact reason why youâd left.
He only got to see her once a month, with supervised visits â visits that were much harder on you than on your daughter, but you put on a brave face just for her. Maybe some small part of it was for yourself, too. You were still in love with him â or with the idea of him, you werenât sure anymore, but the fact remained that he chose his work over his new family out of some misguided idea of making up for the awful things heâd done.
He chose Steve. He chose Sam. He chose his past over his present.
Not you.
The visits were difficult, but manageable â when he even managed to show up, of course. It was about fifty-fifty whether or not heâd show, usually because of work and he often tried to reschedule last minute, which you eventually started to refuse. You and Winnie had a set schedule, and youâd be damned if you deviated from it because of him and his neverending excuses.
You did try, once. You tried to work with him, tried to empathize â at least until he rescheduled three Saturdays in a row and Winnieâs poor little heart shattered to pieces. She was inconsolable for weeks, and needless to say, you stopped trying after that. He didnât deserve it, not when he hurt your young daughter so easily.
Your usual meet-up place was the small park near your house. There wasnât much else around, anyway, not like inner city Manhattan which you so desperately missed. You couldnât afford to live there on your meagre barista salary, so you moved shortly after your trainwreck of a break-up. Moving caused an even bigger rift between you and Bucky, one only worsened by heated arguments and nasty words.
Upstate was where you moved, about three hours away from the city.
Upstate was where Bucky was living now, too, about fifteen minutes from your home.
He broke the news during an impromptu lunchtime visit to your cafĂŠ, one you especially did not appreciate due to the fact that heâd shown up at your workplace. It was almost like heâd known you wouldnât be able to leave, as you so often did when he tried to talk to you about anything. You always put on a smile for your daughter when you dealt with him, but she wasnât here and you had no reason to be nice.
The mug in front of you sat untouched as you stared down at the coffee within, delicate latte art slowly melting away while you processed what heâd just said. He was going to be just a few miles down the road at the new Avengers facility, and though he didnât say it outright, the implication was enough: he could come here anytime he wanted to; could pick Winnie up from preschool anytime he wanted to; could see her anytime he wanted to, court order be damned.
Youâd been reduced to nothing more than a barrier keeping him away from his daughter â your daughter â and it stung. Then again, that was what youâd become. That was what youâd been forced to become, because of him.Â
A barrier.Â
A bitch.
âI want to see her more,â he told you, but his cordial tone did nothing to hide the thinly-veiled threat. âItâs been years since the last agreement. Things are different now.â
Donât make me get a lawyer was what he meant.
Whatâs worse was that you knew he was right. Heâd been cleared of all charges, and although his work wasnât exactly ideal for childrearing, he earned much more money than you did. Not only that, but with the compound right down the road, there was no way heâd be denied this time. If the two of you went back to court, heâd get joint custody. Fifty-fifty. Equal. You knew it, and he did, too. He was forcing your hand.
âYou barely make it to your monthly visits as it is,â you responded evenly, though inside you were about ready to scream. âHow are things different, Bucky?â
âIâm close by. Weâre training more Avengers, so my hours are flexible. Iâve already talked to Steve.â
Why couldnât he have talked to Steve two years ago?
âI can show you around the compound, if thatâs what you want. Itâs better than the tower.â
You remembered the tower. You hated the tower. It was no place to raise a child, what with all the missions and the parties and the late-night take-offs which constantly woke Winnie from her sleep. The one good thing it had going for it was the security.
Somehow, heâd remembered your gripes. You couldnât decide if you should be flattered or not.
âIâve even got a spare bedroom for her now, sweetheart. Canât we make this work?â
âDonât call me that,â you finally snapped, to which Bucky held his hands up in a show of surrender. He didnât offer an apology, but then again, you didnât want one. You didnât want any of this.
Except maybe you did.
You chewed your lower lip, coffee now long forgotten in favour of worrying about the future. You didnât want to trust him again, because every time you did, he broke your heart just a little more.
Deep down, though, you wanted to get along with him. You wanted to be amicable. You wanted your daughter to know her father.Â
Youâd always wanted that.
And if you didnât, then the next step would be a lawyer. You didnât have the time or the money for another custody battle, whereas Bucky had plenty of both and he certainly had no qualms about going down that route. This visit was just a last-ditch effort before he did.
âFine,â you acquiesced through grit teeth, âbut I want to see it first.â
âYeah?â he asked, blue eyes wide with surprise.
For a moment, you were rendered speechless. God, you hadnât seen him look at you like that in years. The last time probably would have been when you told him that you were pregnant with Winnie.Â
Even now, you were still so weak for him. You always managed to stay strong for your daughter, but never for yourself. You missed him, and, well, it wasnât like you had a choice in the matter either way.
âYeah,â you repeated, reluctant and hollow.
That weekend, you found yourself staring up at the gates to the compound in awe through the windshield of your small beater. The compound was indeed much larger than the tower had been; you couldnât see much from the road, but there was plenty of acreage. Plenty of room for Winnie to run around and play, almost, if it wasnât practically a military base.
When you pushed a button, the CCTV camera came to life, whirring as it likely zoomed in your faces through the side windows of your car. âMaâam, this is the Avengers Facility. You might have the wrongââ
You abruptly interrupted him with your name, followed by, âAnd this is Winnifred Barnes. B-A-R-N-E-S.â
There was a long pause, then, as the guy on the other end seemed to realize who you were. Then he had an immediate change of tone. âOh, thatâsâ thatâs today! Right! Iâm so sorry, maâam!â
Ugh. You werenât old enough to be a âmaâam.âÂ
Were you?
After the gate started to open, you slowly made your way up the long driveway, humming quietly to yourself to calm your nerves. That was when Winnie started to sing along with you, the same off-key tune that the two of you often sang together in the bathtub. Sheâd never been a fan of baths, so you used the song as a distraction. Now it was supposed to be your distraction, but it didnât work very well.
You parked next to a small fleet of shiny black cars with tinted windows, feeling just as out of place now as you did when you and Bucky were dating. Youâd always made coffee for a living, while he was⌠him. How you even managed to make it work for nearly two years was beyond you, as brief and fleeting as your whirlwind romance had been.
âIs Daddy here?â Winnie asked excitedly, peering out the windows at the large complex of buildings. Her breath fogged up the glass and you couldnât help but laugh a little.
âYes, baby,â you told her as you got out of the car and slung your purse over one shoulder, before you opened her car door. âDaddyâs here. Weâll see him soon.â
She bounced happily as you unbuckled her from her car seat, and then you hoisted her up onto one hip and shut the door with your free hand. After that, you slowly made your way up the steps to what you assumed was the main building.
Christ, this place was massive.
Just before you got to the top, the glass double doors up ahead were shoved open and there was Bucky in all his glory â tall and muscular, just like always, albeit almost out of breath. His hair was pulled back into a loose, messy bun, strands of hair framing his face in the familiar way youâd always loved, and the stubble on his face nearly made you swoon.
You hated that you were still attracted to him. Â
âSorry, weâre a little early,â you admitted, nodding to your daughter. âSomeone wanted to see you.â
As if on cue, Winnie shouted, âDaddy!â and reached out for him with her little arms, making grabby hands in his direction. She was so eager that you might have dropped her once, but you were used to her excitement.
Bucky met your eyes for a moment with a note of appreciation before he turned to her. Then and only then did the corners of his eyes crinkle up in a genuine smile â one directed at your daughter, not at you, one not meant to keep up a charade like the two of you were wont to do. That was the only type of smile he offered you, and that hurt, too.
âHowâs my best girl?â he cooed, peppering her face with noisy kisses.
She giggled and half-heartedly tried to push him away. âDaddy, no! Itâs scratchy!âÂ
At that, he just rubbed his stubbly cheek against hers some more, lightly, not enough to hurt, and she squealed. He slid his hands under her arms with ease before he lifted her up and away from you, and although you knew he wasnât being malicious, you always hated giving her up.
She just slung her tiny arms around his neck and buried her face in his shoulder. It had been awhile since sheâd seen him â probably about two months, now, and you didnât blame her. Youâd missed him, too.
âHow was the drive?â he asked you, holding Winnie against his side as the three of you made your way inside. With his free hand, he held open the glass door for you.
âIt was a whole twelve minutes,â you responded dryly, more joking than not. Twelve minutes was much better than the nearly three-hour commute from when he was living in the city; not that you had to make it very often, as it was usually his responsibility. âNot too bad. Thanks.â
You werenât really sure what you were thanking him for. The door, maybe.
Bucky paused to study your face for a moment, hesitant, before he quickly lifted Winnie up onto his shoulders, adorable peals of laughter escaping her. The ceilings were tall enough to offer plenty of leeway, and sheâd always enjoyed being able to see things from such a high vantage point, especially someplace new like this.Â
âI bet Auntie Nat will be so happy to see you, sweetpea,â you told her, more to fill the silence than anything else. Bucky sure looked like he wanted to say something to you. He had that same reluctant expression on his face, the very one that creased his brows and made your anxiety skyrocket. Â
Thankfully, he seemed to understand that you werenât willing to discuss whatever it was yet, and instead chimed in, âSheâs waiting for us upstairs, princess. Do you wanna go see her?â
âYeah!â Winnie sounded incredibly chipper as she gripped two handfuls of Buckyâs hair in her small fists, almost like the reigns to a horse. âLetâs go!â
You stifled a laugh as she half-directed him where to go. The stairs were steeper than you anticipated, and by the time you reached the next floor, you were well and truly winded. The second flight was even worse; they were both already at the top by the time you got halfway there, because Bucky took them two or three at a time.
âCome on, Mommy!â Winnie cheered. Â
âIâm coming, baby,â you called out, holding onto the handrail for dear life. That wasnât an exaggeration.
One step, two, then three and you finally made it there. It wasnât that you were out of shape, exactly â except, well, you were. Youâd never completely lost the extra weight that came along with having a child, and you definitely didnât have the time to work out with all of your other responsibilities as much as you would have liked to.
Buckyâs eyes were soft on yours when you glanced over at him, to which you huffed and quickly looked away. Knowing heâd seen how out of shape you were was embarrassing enough.
âWhereâs Auntie Nat?â Winnie asked, then, and you were never more grateful to her for it.
âSheâs making lunch for us,â Bucky told her, gently placing a hand on your lower back to guide you in the right direction. When you froze up at the unexpected contact, he immediately pulled it away, like heâd only just realized what heâd done.
If your heart wasnât already racing, it certainly would have been after that.
âHowâs that sound, Win? Are you hungry?â you asked as the three of you walked into the large kitchen and living area. The open floor plan was full of expensive things youâd only ever dreamt of, no doubt courtesy of Tony.
âYeah!â she responded happily, which soon became an excited shriek when she spotted Natasha spreading peanut butter onto a few slices of bread. On the marble countertop in front of her was also a jar of strawberry jam, Winnieâs favourite.
âHi Winnie,â Natasha greeted. âGuess what Iâm making?â
âPeanut butter jellies!â Winnie exclaimed, wiggling a little, clearly ready to get off of Buckyâs shoulders to properly say hi to Natasha. Predictably, he plopped her onto the floor with ease, and she did just that. The sound of her scampering across the unfamiliar tile brought a smile to your face. It almost sounded like home.
Natasha kept her entertained while you and Bucky watched in tense, uncomfortable silence. If nothing else, you were glad that Winnie was able to spend some time with her two favourite people. You, of course, werenât one of them. You werenât the fun parent. Bucky was.
âIâm sorry about the other day,â he said, then, softly enough that Winnie couldnât hear.
You didnât look at him, instead focusing on what was on the other side of the room: the two black leather sofas surrounding a large flat-screen TV mounted to the wall, with a lavish coffee table in front. All you noticed were the sharp corners and invisible price tags. You werenât broke, exactly, but all of this was much nicer than you could afford.
âDonât be,â you replied with a shrug. âSheâd be over the moon if we had such a big TV at home.â
âIâm happy to give you more,â Bucky said, crossing his arms. âWhy am I not surprised youâre still driving that car?â
At that, you shot him a look that clearly conveyed your displeasure, to which he met your eyes in challenge.
You didnât want more money from him. You only accepted the bare minimum of child support because it was court-ordered, and even that was a blow to your pride. You and Winnie were managing just fine without the ridiculous sum of money that Bucky made whilst working with the Avengers.
âIt still runs. Why would I get rid of it?â
âItâs not as safe as the newer models,â Bucky responded far too evenly for your liking. âYou know that. Are you really going to let your pride get in the way of our daughterâs safety?â
âSheâs fine,â you hissed. âAre you really going to do this right now?â
âMommy? Whatâs wrong?â came your sweet little girlâs voice, then, and your bristly demeanour disappeared in an instant. You always did your best not to argue with Bucky in front of her, but every now and then he just had to push your buttons. This was one of those times.
âNothing, honey,â you said with faux cheerfulness, walking over to the counter where she was now seated, jam smeared all over her cheeks and chin. âMommyâs just hungry, thatâs all. Can I please have a bite?â
Winnie just beamed and held out one half of her sandwich to you. That was when you noticed that Natasha had lovingly cut it into triangles, just as she always did, and your smile suddenly felt more real than it had in days.
After you took a bite, you brushed Winnieâs soft brown locks away from her forehead and left a kiss there. âThank you. Now be a good girl for Auntie Nat, okay? Mommy and Daddy will be back soon.â
âOkay, Mommy,â she said so sweetly, you couldnât help but give her another kiss. Then you shared a warning look with Natasha â almost as if to say keep her out of this â before you walked back over to Bucky.
Together, the two of you went back out into the hallway to finish the argument he started. You were already ready to rip his head off after his unexpected visit-slash-threat earlier in the week, not to mention the snide comment heâd just made about your ability to parent.
The moment the door shut behind you, you were in full attack mode, zero to sixty in no time whatsoever. âDamn it, how many times do I have to tell you not to pick a fight in front of her?â
âWell, maybe if you were more reasonableââ
âMore reasonable? Maybe if you made an effort to actually show up every once in a whileââ
âWhat the hell do you think Iâm trying to do here, sweetheart? Sheâs three and Iâve barely seen her!â
âAnd whose fault is that?â you spat, jabbing your finger into his chest for emphasis, âYouâre the one whoâs always working, Bucky! You know how excited she gets, and whenever you let her down, Iâm the one who has to try and make her feel better! Iâm the one making promises you canât keep!â
Bucky exhaled slowly, then, in a clear attempt to calm down. The two of you never used to fight like this, but ever since you moved away, things had been beyond tense and youâd long since been forced to recognize when he really was trying to control his temper.
Of course, things werenât always so bad. There were days where both of you were at least somewhat amicable towards each other, maybe even friendly. In fact, this one seemed like it might have been heading in that direction â in the beginning, at least.
Then he finally spoke again, tone clipped, âLet me show you her room.â
Yeah, like seeing whatever he had in store would suddenly make you forget the last three years.Â
âFine.â
Bucky led the way down a winding corridor on the same floor as the communal kitchen. You guessed that each floor probably had its own. The building itself was large and expensive as hell, more than anything youâd ever be able to afford. Just being here almost felt like a privilege.
You hated it. What you hated more was that you liked it. For Winnie, anyway. She deserved the world.
The door to Buckyâs apartment opened with a fingerprint scan, because of course it did. The technology reminded you of your shared suite in the tower once upon a time.Â
The apartment wasnât anything impressive, more of a bachelor pad than anything, but at least it was clean. A grey suede sofa was the focal point, across from another large TV. Boys and their toys, you supposed. At least the coffee table in here had no sharp edges.Â
On the other side there was a small kitchenette â big enough for one person, but not necessarily two. Then again, Winnie didnât eat nearly as much as an adult so that wasnât really a problem.
Down the hallway, you spotted three doors: one on the left, one on the right, and one at the end. Bathroom, spare room, and his room. At least, that was what you assumed.
You were right.
The second you opened the door to the spare bedroom, your breath hitched in your throat. It wasnât overly pink or girly like Winnieâs room at home, but you could immediately picture her living here. Not all of the time, because you did still want primary custody, but it was evident that Bucky had put a lot of thought and effort into this. Â
There was a twin bed up against one of the walls, with a small guardrail to prevent her from rolling onto the floor â just like at home, where sheâd only recently moved into a big girl bed. The sheets were a delicate lavender, and the duvet matched perfectly, white and purple gingham print. At the foot of the bed was a grey fleece blanket, which you absentmindedly brushed your fingers against as you took everything in.
In one of the corners was a small white desk and chair, and on top of it was a stack of childrenâs books. She hadnât yet learned how to read, not really, but she loved being read to at bedtime. As you skimmed through the stack, you noticed that a lot of the books were her favourites.
Then you spotted the stuffed animals.
There were a bunch of them, with tags in an assortment of languages. You didnât even have to look to know that they were from different countries. Bucky must have been saving them for a while. He already knew you had too many at your house as it was; youâd ripped him a new one for it once already, because he liked to bring Winnie one whenever he got back from a mission. You had so many now that they covered her bed, and then some.
He still was picking them up on his missions, it looked like. He just hadnât given them to her yet.
When you turned back to him, you found him leaning against the doorframe with a hopeful look on his face.
âHow longââ Your voice broke, then, and you cleared your throat in an attempt to sound like you werenât about to cry. It didnât work. âHow long have you been collecting these?â
âOver a year,â he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly as he nodded to the room itself. âDo you think sheâll like it?â
You let out a shaky breath, willing yourself not to cry in front of him. That didnât work either.
âOh, Bucky,â you sniffled. âSheâll love it.â
He hesitantly pushed off the doorframe when he noticed you were upset. âAre you crying?â
âNo,â you blubbered, burying your teary face in your hands before he could get a good look.
Bucky wanted to be there for your daughter. At last.
You were beyond touched by all the work that had gone into this, and although you werenât happy about his unspoken threat of legal action, you could finally see why. He cared about her. He cared about her just as much as you did. He just didnât show it as well.
The way Bucky wrapped his arms around you was gentle, unsure, but when you leaned into him his hold on you tightened just a little. It had been far too long since youâd been held, for one, and for two, god it felt good to be held by him. Youâd forgotten what it felt like to be in his arms.Â
Youâd missed it â missed him.
That might have been why you finally managed to swallow your pride and ask, muffled and teary, âWhat car has the best safety features?â
When he pulled away just enough to look at you, he gave you a smile, the same kind where his eyes crinkled at the corners.Â
It was genuine.

Evanescence: âGuitarists need to be honest. Use your voice. We donât need fake â we need humanity and real peopleâ
Jen Majura and Troy McLawhorn wax lyrical on the high-octane gear, influences and themes behind the band's upcoming fifth album, The Bitter Truth
The Bitter Truth, the fifth full-length from Evanescence set for release in March 2021, will be their first album of new material in a decade. The American arena group led by singer/keyboardist Amy Lee had already released three singles, though the recordâs completion was stalled by the virus pandemic that dominated headlines for much of the year.
The first sessions took place at the beginning of 2020 with rock super producer Nick Raskulinecz [Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains] in his Nashville studio, spawning the tracks weâve heard so far â Wasted On You, The Game Is Over and Use My Voice. Then, of course, came Covid, putting an end to safe travel and forcing virtually all plans to change.
For the members in America, it was incredibly problematic. For German guitarist Jen Majura, who joined in 2015, it was an absolute nightmare. Nevertheless, the group kept chiseling away and fleshing out their parts for album number five.
When Guitar World tracks down Majura and co-guitarist Troy McLawhorn towards the end of 2020, things are still very much in the process of being finalized...
Looking back now, that session in Nashville must feel like a very long time ago!
Majura: Definitely! What hit me so hard was that weâd recorded that first chunk of songs and waved goodbye at the airport, thinking weâd be back in a couple of weeks. And then suddenly this pandemic hit, airports were all shut!
âI had never felt more apart from my friends in the States than since this all started. Itâs so unnatural for me not to be there! Iâm very old-school â I like my tube amp and 4x12 cabinet. I like to sit in the studio with the humans Iâm working with and creating in the moment.
âBeing away from Amy and the boys while working on material has felt so unnatural to me, but thatâs the we have to do it and we have to make the best out of it. The time we spent with Nick in Nashville was the happiest ever.
âIt felt amazing to see these songs coming to life â you have this idea but when you are all in a room creating, things change and become better, you end up trying out different ways. Itâs such a vibrant and beautiful way of working. But I get it, thereâs this thing called corona, so you knowâŚâ
This will be your first album working together on new material. How do you go about splitting guitar parts?
McLawhorn: âWhenever weâre jamming, if someone comes up with up something cool, they play it. Thereâs no set thing. So far Iâve probably played the majority of the lead guitar â if Jen comes up with something she is always welcome to play whatever it is. Itâs a good working relationship. The first batch of songs, the first three that came out, were done in one session before the coronavirus hit. We were all together for those ones.
âBut then Jen flew home back to Germany and we were supposed to tour in Europe, but it all got cancelled. Everything weâve done since then has been without Jen with us, weâve been kinda flying sessions back and forth. I probably played a lot of the guitar on the album, but sheâs been coming up with cool ideas and putting her stamp on it too.â
The Game Is Over definitely feels like the heavier side of EvanescenceâŚ
McLawhorn: âThereâs a lot of good stuff like that on this one, stuff that people will be surprised by maybe. Thereâs a fair amount of that aggressive type of music, but itâs a good mixture. So far everyoneâs heard the lighter side of the album, like Use My Voice and Wasted On You⌠but then thereâs The Game Is Over. It was a lot of fun to play and thereâs more heavy stuff on there too!â
Majura: âThat bridge is so heavy, I love it! Itâs going back to the real rock roots and having lots of fun. When you have a low-tuned guitar you have to be a bit careful â you canât just smash your strings but they will warp a bit.
âI remember forcing myself, especially during the bridge, to play gentle even though it had this badass attitude. It took me a couple of takes⌠the first ones were completely out of tune [laughs]!â
Jen, it must have been a rollercoaster five years for you. How did you end up getting the gig?
Majura: âWhat happened was that I was playing bass in another band, not really being happy as Iâm a guitar player. We happened to play two festivals, one in Germany and one in the Czech Republic. And it turns out Testament were playing the same days as us.
âIâm a huge Alex Skolnick fan, so we ended up talking and keeping in touch. A couple of days later, I got this very mysterious email from him saying, âJen! Some friends of mine are going to contact you and I canât reveal too much but I think itâs something you should say yes to!â I was wondering what the hell he was talking aboutâŚ
âAnd then a day later, I got this email from Evanescenceâs management asking if I would be interested in⌠and I didnât even finish reading the email. I just immediately replied âYes!â and sent it. That was a total no-brainer.
âSo this was around July 2015 and the next evening I was on the phone with Amy talking. She invited me to come visit her in New York and hang out. I thought, âOkay⌠cool!â and three days later I was on a plane flying to fuckinâ New York wondering if this was really happening. It was insane.â
Did you bring your guitar?
Majura: âI didnât! I asked her if I needed to bring one and she said, âNah, I know you can play, Iâve seen plenty of videos â letâs just hang out!â And thatâs exactly what we did for the next three days. Hanging out, long walks and talks, going out for dinner or to a concert. Becoming friends and getting to know each other on a more human relationship kind of base.
âI realize now thatâs the biggest deal when you have to replace a member. A band is a family. Iâd like to quote Rob Zombie on that, because he said it in the movie Hired Gun!
âFinding a good player is the easy part â the world is full of virtuosos. You also need someone who can commit to touring, being on the road and that whole lifestyle. The third and last thing, also the toughest, is that you need people you can stand hanging out with 24/7.
âConcerts are only 90 minutes â what about all the other hours in the day? You need to all fit together. Within those first few days with Amy, I realized we both had a strong work ethic and know exactly what we want, which is beautiful.
âSheâs a very strong character. I appreciate her musicality and personality too, she quickly became one of my best friends because we laughed about the same things and then figured out we both love Sex and the City [laugh]! I am so grateful and thankful to have experienced everything I have with her and the boys.â
Troy, youâve been a member of Seether and filled in for Sevendust on some tours, but youâve been an on/off member of Evanescence for over a decade nowâŚ
McLawhorn: âYeah, to be honest, I never really left Evanescence. We have big breaks between albums. When I did my first tour with the band, Amy told me she was taking a long break, probably around four or five years. I just went out to find something to do in the meantime and ended up playing in Seether for a few yearsâŚ
âWhen it was time for me to leave, it coincided with Amy being ready to do another album. And it was a huge coincidence. I ended up in New York and went to Amyâs house. I was having trouble in Seether and wasnât happy there, and she said sheâd love me to come work on the new album. Thatâs how it all went down.
âThere seems to be some pretty long breaks in between albums with this band but I think thatâs part of Amyâs creative process. She likes to take her time when sheâs writing the lyrics. The final product always turns out really nice that way, so why mess with it?â
What can you tell us about the gear responsible for the guitar sounds on this album?
Majura: âI signed up with Synergy Amps in November last year. When I joined, I think Steve Vai was the only big name working with them, but I figured if itâs Steve Vai itâs gotta be fucking great. So I went over to check their amp out and I was very skeptical. It looks like a tube amp but with all these holes and parts missing!
âBut I plugged in, hit one chord and realized it was actually phenomenal. Theyâve sent all the different modules to me, like the Diezel, and the perfect solution for me was the Friedman HBE. It has the perfect rock and roll sound for my solos but it also has the mighty depth of high-gain stuff too â which are all frequencies you need for Evanescence.
âI was originally expecting Iâd go with the Diezel one, but the Friedman felt more right for me. Iâm very open-minded when it comes to technology. You have two modules, each with two channels, so you get a four-channel amp made out of your favorites.
âFor example, I could combine a Vox AC30 Brian May sound with a Diezel VH4. Itâs phenomenal what theyâve managed to open up for us musicians in terms of sound options. Itâs been my tour rig and studio rig ever since.â
McLawhorn: âI used a combination of different things on this album. On The Game Is Over, it was basically my live setup which is an Orange Rockerverb 100, with an analog pedalboard.
âA big part of the tone I get from the amp comes down to a 10-band EQ I use to boost the mids on the lead channel. Thatâs about it â I donât really use overdrive pedals or anything like that and probably use less gain than most modern guitarists. I almost use EQ to find a modern sound, instead of more gain.
âI also have a Fractal Axe-Fx III, which Iâve used here and there on the album, especially for clean parts â itâs really good for that. Iâve done some overdubs with the II as well, stuff that has a lot of effects or sounds really wet â Axe-Fx is great for that, too. I also have a 1969 Marshall Superbass 100 which we split with a Bogner Ecstasy or Uberschall, and used for the rhythm tracks on a couple of songs.â
And how about for guitars?
Majura: âIâve been with Ibanez for many years now and Iâm very happy. They deliver the most perfect instruments. You pick up an instrument and either like it or not. Some of them seem to instantly merge with your system â you become one â and that is true of most Ibanez guitars, at least for me.
âOf course Iâve played Les Pauls and other things, but theyâre really not my style. I have so many Ibanez guitars now. I think the AZ series was such a smart move â the family is even bigger and better now⌠Look at players like Tim Henson, who is just amazing. He makes me feel so old. Heâll be nailing it and Iâm at home just playing along to AC/DC or something!
âFor pedals, I stick with the Line 6 Helix pedalboard because I remember at my first rehearsal in 2015, they would tell me certain parts would need a chorus or flanger or this or that. At the end of the rehearsal I had a battery of pedals in front of me and realized I couldnât do it. Iâve never been a pedal dancer. I went to Line 6 asking for a solution and they were just about to come out with the Helix⌠it was perfect.â
McLawhorn: âI was using a baritone PRS SE. I changed the pickups out, but thatâs it â I love the guitar and how it plays. I tried a few different sets, most by Seymour Duncan. One of my seven-strings has a Seymour that my tech put in on the road and I donât know which one it is! He just found it in my guitar coffin and asked if we should throw it in. It stayed for the rest of the tour â it was probably a JB, who knows!
âBut the one on the record is the Distortion (SH-6). I really like how they sound. At first, they were a little hot for what I like â I tend to prefer somewhere in between modern metal and classic rock. It felt like really high gain, way too much, especially when switching from my other guitars. But he really lowered the pickup down and that fixed everything, making everything super-tight and adding some nice mids.â
Use My Voice has a really powerful message behind itâŚ
Majura: âYes! Another thing that connects me and Amy very strongly is that we both went through moments in our careers where males would tell us, âYouâre just a girl â what do you know?â Itâs time for strong women â in rock or wherever â to stand up and say being good at a craft has nothing to do with gender. Itâs been happening for way too long.
âThat feeling of our voices being suppressed needs to change, because every voice matters. Weâre all the same. It does not matter if you are male or female or transgender⌠humans are humans. I think we should spend more time understanding why weâre the same. Use My Voice is an important message for women to stand up and be heard.â
Where do you think your influences differ as guitar players?
Majura: âThe first guitar hero I had at around 10 or 11 was Steve Vai. He was so revolutionary in terms of what heâs done for the guitar world, both sound-wise and crafts-wise. Electric guitar wouldnât be what it is today without Steve Vai.
âI respect him so much for how he feels and talks through his instrument. Heâs influenced my thinking about a lot of things. Heâs an amazing person, not just an amazing musician.
âThen I got into Nuno Bettencourt, who plays for the sake of the song instead of showing off. Which is what I tried to do on my first solo album, Inzenity, everyone expected a shred album and it wasnât. I played for the song. If it didnât require a guitar solo then fine, Iâd just leave it. I didnât need to prove to the world how good I was.
âNuno also has the percussive style of playing, which brings this tone that I really like. And finally, Angus Young. Iâve been playing in an AC/DC tribute band for four years and I love his playing.â
McLawhorn: âA lot of them for me were the classic players while I was growing up. So Ace Frehley for sure⌠KISS were like Slipknot for us who grew up in the '70s [laughs]! Then thereâs Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. Tony Iommi as well, he was a massive influence on me as a kid.
âEddie Van Halen was a huge influence on me, too â it was very sad that we lost him so early and so young. When Van Halen came out, I started taking guitar very seriously. The bluesy side of his playing always appealed to me but he also had all that technical prowess, too. A very inspiring guitar player for so many people.â
What advice can you offer anyone out there hoping to become a good session player?
McLawhorn: âYou need to know how to communicate with people. Iâve done sessions with some Nashville guys that have this shorthand way of writing music. Reading music and knowing theory is always important⌠I wish I knew more myself.
âIt puts you at ease walking into a session knowing you read and play anything back. I canât really do that â I just really really listen and learn things by memory. I can read some music but thatâs going back to trumpet at high school [laughs]. So I rely on communication always!â
Majura: âI think guitar players need to be honest. Use your voice. Be real. Be pure. We donât need fake, we need humanity and real people. What I love about people like Mattias IA Eklundh is heâs just himself. Heâs pure and innovative in a really interesting way.
âIâve gotten to know guys like him, Guthrie Govan, Richie Kotzen and Jeff Waters â theyâre all awesome and very honest players. I think one should never think one has seen it all and learned it all.
âWe need to keep in mind weâre all on a journey in search of becoming better. In terms of advice, I always have to say being open to different styles is so important. Thereâs something to learn every day. You should never stop trying to improve to make the world a better place. You should never stop learning⌠thatâs what makes you human.â

new york city - usa
Your bright smile and smart dress were the only thing keeping the fact that you were sleep-deprived and exhausted a secret. The black skirt suit was too hot and you felt yourself pulling at your neckerchief whenever you thought no one was looking.
âHello and welcome to Gaia Airlines! Could you place your luggage on the conveyor belt for me?â
Over and over and over, that sentence was seared onto your mind like a brand, so natural were the words that fell from your lips that it felt as if you were on autopilot, not really thinking about anything as you asked the typical questions and ripped tickets with the mechanical movements of a bored human being.
You cast a glance down the line of people on the night shift alongside you and saw the similar subtle signs that lack of sleep adds to your features. Sam was rubbing his face, Buckyâs shoulders had sagged, Natâs heels lay strewn on the floor under the desk and Steve beside you had dark circles under his eyes and a slightly more worn smile than usual.
Heâd caught you stealing a glance at him between customers and inclined his head towards you just slightly with a small tilt as if to ask if you were doing okay. You gave him a soft smile and a tiny, almost imperceptible nod that you knew he would pick up on. Not only was he good at reading others in the first place, but you two had gotten to know each other rather well over the past five and a half years. Calling him a best friend, calling all four of them best friends, didnât feel out of place.
He turned back to his next customer, satisfied with your answer, and began to serve them, you continuing with your own line. Why people couldnât just get flights in the daytime like a normal person would baffled you. But not really.
Youâd take any flight you could get if it meant youâd get to go out and see the world.
Working at an airport and watching people flying away on magical adventures every single night whilst also being someone who had never left the United States and had a serious case of wanderlust was an interesting situation to say the least. The irony was certainly not lost on you.
Almost a whole night of the same old, same old checking in had gone by and if it was even possible, everyone appeared to be flagging so much more. Youâd lost your own heels a few hours previous, secretly reaching down to massage your aching feet every couple of minutes. It wasnât as if you even got a decent break in your 12 hour shift, just two half hour ones that were just used for a much needed sit down, a run to the bathroom and a quick snack.
With just an hour left, it was Steveâs turn for a break and as soon as the clock struck the hour he put a rope across his station and stepped back from the podium with a stretched out sigh. He walked behind you to make his way to the break room and squeezed your shoulder on the way past with a pitying smile and you brought your hand up to cover his for only a second, meeting his glance with grateful eyes.
âIâll grab you a coffee,â he whispered on his way.
âThank you!â you mumbled, even though he was already gone and you could hear his shoes clicking on the floor, quieter and quieter as he travelled down the corridor.
There was a part of you, your heart most likely, that seemed to warm at the thought of Steve offering to get you a coffee and none of the others, however selfish it may have sounded. But in reality, it reaffirmed your belief that the relationship the two of you held went a little beyond the rest of your work relationships. Steve was a little more than that to you than a mere best friend and it was nice to know that feeling was reciprocated.
There were other feelings in the back of your mind for Steve, ones that used to be right at the forefront, begging to be set free, but it had been a long time since you had properly listened to those. They just happened to lurk there, completely unwanted and unreciprocated, of that you were sure, and so you cast them away in fear that they may one day interfere in the best friendship of your adult life.
You heard a mini beep from your computer screen that indicated a chat message. You continued to talk through the protocol safety questions with the customer you were currently serving but clicked on the little bell icon to open up the chat window at the same time. Sam had set up the chat about a year ago, installed it on the five workstation computers only and done it in a certain way you didnât quite understand to ensure that the airline wouldnât see it and that the day shifters couldnât access it either.
You were added to a chat with Badass, Princess and Birdman.
Nat: Sorry, am I mistaken or did somebody just offer just one singular person a coffee?
Bucky: No Nat, Iâm pretty sure thatâs exactly what just happened.
Sam: What would possibly cause such unabashed favouritism?
Your brow furrowed at the messages but you ignored them for a second as you ripped the tickets youâd just printed from the mini printer and handed them to the customer in front of you as you told them to have a wonderful flight. There was no one left in the queue for the time being, though you knew it wouldnât last, so you turned your attention back to the messages.
Y/N: If you guys ever want to stop being children, just let me know.
Bucky: Someoneâs tetchy. Itâs as if we havenât all just done 11 hours of a 12 hour shift.
Y/N: Less of the sass, Barnes.
Nat: Youâre willingly blind, Y/N.
Sam: Willingly ignorant, blind isnât a strong enough word.
You have left the chat.
You could feel a couple of glances at the side of your head as the others noticed your exit but you ignored them, focusing on the person that had arrived in front of you to be checked in. Your colleagues, as you currently felt compelled to call them just colleagues, had been alluding to a crush from a certain other colleague for a good few months now, but it was something you wouldnât even consider a possibility. It wasnât up for discussion. Not anymore. Not when youâd had to spend months locking away every thought of Steve that you couldnât have, months boxing up every inappropriate feeling you found in your brain.
Steve returned and you felt his arm just brush your side lightly as he placed a steaming hot mug on your desk, not stopping to talk to you but just returning to his station. You glanced at him and he was already looking at you, a weird glimmer in his eye and a grin adorning his features. You shot him a quick puzzled look but he shook his head lightly, the grin only growing.
And then he did something completely new. He winked at you.
It was playful and excitable and he was like a puppy that had just been given a new home. He looked revitalised, a different man to the one that had trudged away to the break room half an hour ago. Completely bewildered, and just slightly more flustered than youâd like to admit, you hurriedly dropped your gaze away from him and towards your work instead, silently wracking your brain for anything that could have happened to him to have made him so cheerful so suddenly. The others were looking confused too, with Bucky and Sam shaking their heads at each other and rolling their eyes and Nat mouthing expletives at you. You resolved to ask him about it as soon as your shift ended.
You had never seen such a sudden change in Steveâs mood. And he had never sent you a wink that made you shiver.
30 minutes earlier
Steve struggled through the corridor, desperately trying to keep his feet moving, one after the other, even though it was difficult to keep it going. He was so tired. Heâd taken the early and late break this evening, so that the others could have the middle ones that they really needed. Especially you, since youâd been secretly signing yourself up for the early and late breaks for the past week in order to help the others.
Heâd now signed himself up for the coming week. It was the absolute least he could do.
As was grabbing you a coffee.
In the break room, there were a myriad of other airport employees, flight attendants, duty free salespersons and even a few pilots scattered around. Steveâs ears automatically tuned in to a familiar voice and his lips turned up in a knowing smile.
â...so I told him, look Rhodey, just because youâre my co-pilot doesnât mean Iâll hesitate to send you out the door with a parachute!â
A few of his colleagues laughed at his clearly exaggerated tale as Steve walked over and tapped him on the shoulder, watching his face break into a grin when he turned around.
âSteve Rogers!â he exclaimed, cupping his face with both hands and planting a kiss on each cheek, something Steve had grown somewhat accustomed to.
âTony Stark,â he replied, clapping a hand on his arm, âItâs been a little while. How was South Korea?â
âWonderful. Howâs Y/N?â
Steveâs whole face seemed to slump into one of a grumpy teenager although there was the faintest hint of a blush forming on his cheeks that told Tony his teasing wasnât unwarranted. Heâd been teasing him as such for about four years, however, so it was beginning to become tiresome.
âWonderful,â Steve mumbled reluctantly, âBut you could really ask her yourself.â
âWhere would the fun be in that?â
Tony grinned and Steve glowered at him, but still he sat opposite him at one of the tables in the break room when Tony indicated to do so. Tony may have been a pain in the ass, but he was an old friend and one of the only people Steve would willingly endure such teasing from. The other was Bucky, and sometimes Nat but never Sam. He had his limits.
âSeriously, have you still not said anything to her? You know she-â
âTony,â he warned, sounding exasperated, âMove on. Was Pepper on your flight to Korea?â
âNo,â Tony grumbled, âThey donât let us on the same flights more than once a month now, something about not trusting us to keep the plane...sanitary.â Steveâs nose wrinkled in light disgust.
âYou know how gross that is, right?â
âWe most certainly do!â
âPepperâs such a lucky woman,â Steve said sarcastically and Tony laughed, Steve congratulating himself on successfully changing the subject, even if it was just for now.
âThat she is. Sheâs back from Thailand tomorrow so best to stay out of our way for at least 6 hours, then feel free to stop by the apartment and say hello!â
âIâll give you 12 hours, but I will pop over, I havenât seen Pep in such a long time!â
âChief flight attendants donât get too much free time.â
âNeither do pilots, Tony. How do you two manage it?â Steve asked, curious and a soft, genuine smile played with Tonyâs lips as he shrugged lightly.
âWe get by. Cherish the time we do spend together. It helps that weâve known each other for ten years. Though five and a half is probably enough too.â
âTony-â
âOh come on Steve! Itâs been four years of you being in love with this girl and four years of being too scared to anything about it. Do you realise how long that is? Four years!â he insisted and Steve felt a small anger building in his stomach.
âIâm not too scared to do anything about it, Stark,â Tony looked slightly taken aback by the bite in Steveâs words and knew that he was only referred to as Stark when heâd gone just a little too far, âIâm not doing anything about it because, above everything, I count myself lucky to have Y/N in my life and I refuse to do anything that might jeopardise that. Period.â
Tony blinked a couple of times.
âOkay, fine. That makes sense, I guess,â it almost sounded as if Tony was being serious but Steve knew him better than that, âOr at least, it would if I wasnât 100% sure without a doubt that Y/N is head over heels for you.â
âShe isnât.â
âIâve known her for just as long as you, Stevie, and I know that she does.â
âYou donât see her everyday like I do. Weâre best friends; I would know. Drop it.â
Tony sat back in his chair with a heavy sigh. He couldnât count how many times the two men had had this conversation. It was growing unbearably annoying. Steve was forthright about his feelings about you and had been for a very long time and whilst you wouldnât dream of admitting anything to Tony, who was little more than a friendly face that you saw around sometimes, Tony had seen the way you looked at Steve. He knew that look. It was the look he got when Pepper was around.
It was that of a lovesick puppy.
And whilst you werenât much of the puppy type and that was far more Steveâs game, he knew what heâd seen. You were smitten. Steve was smitten. Why neither of you were brave enough to take this further was beyond him. Though this was coming from the man who had showered his wife with bouquets upon bouquets of flowers and one ill-begotten batch of strawberries before she agreed to date him, so subtlety wasnât exactly his strongest suit.
âShe means that much to you, huh?â
A pause. Full of weight. Meaning.
âYou know she does, Tony,â he said softly, looking down at his hands which had starting wringing together nervously without him even noticing, âIâd do pretty much anything for her. Which reminds me, I should really be getting her coffee so-â
Steve pushed himself up from the chair with his hands on his thighs, not noticing the look on Tonyâs face and the clear fact that heâd just had what he thought was a genius idea. As Steve wandered over to the coffee machine in the kitchenette area, Tony bounded up from his chair and over to his friend, taking off his pilot cap and tugging it over Steveâs head.
âIâve just had an incredible idea!â
âNo.â
âYou havenât even heard it yet,â Tony pouted as Steve waiting for the coffee to brew, having put your favourite pod in the machine. He turned from the counter and leaned back against it, hands pressing into it on either side of him. He nodded reluctantly for Tony to continue, âWhy donât you and Y/N take a trip? All expenses paid by yours truly, a holiday from the night shift, a chance to spend some quality time together. It would be perfect!â
âAre you out of your mind?â Steve scoffed, shaking his head, âI am not going on a trip with Y/N.â
âWhy not? You said it yourself, youâre best friends. Best friends go on vacations together.â
âYeah but-â he floundered for some other excuse, âI canât let you pay for it!â
Tony laughed at that. Steve could admit that was a pretty weak point. What with Tonyâs air miles and his ridiculous amount inherited from his father, he wouldnât even notice if somebody stole from him, Steve was sure. And he was a generous man at heart, so accepting such a huge gift, though difficult, wouldnât be that hard to stomach.
âForget the conversation we just had. Forget romance. You love her. That means something, even between best friends. And wouldnât this make her happy?â
Steve paused. It would. There was no denying that this would make you happier than heâd probably ever seen you. Work was beating your ass lately, and there wasnât a day, or night, that went by when you didnât talk about some part of the world you wanted to see, or lamented about an incredible place that one of your flight attendant friends was flying out to that night. Youâd always wanted to travel.
He could make it happen. He could make you happy.
Or, at least, the trip could.
âI donât know, Tony-â
âYou think too much, Rogers,â Tony pointed, accusatory, at Steve, a stern look overtaking his features, âFor once in your life, just do something spontaneous. Invite Y/N to come around the world with you. Why not?â
There were so many reasons why not. Because it was ill advised for a man in love to go away with the object of his affections. Because he shouldnât take a free trip from Tony Stark. Because you might say no, he might be crushed. Because you did not love him back and he should be distancing himself from you in order to deal with that fact and not throwing himself before you in some grand gesture that wouldnât win your love or make him feel any better about his unreciprocated feelings.
âOkay. Iâll do it.â
Tony clapped him on the back in his excitement with a grin of glee on his face.
âAsk her tonight, ask her tonight!â
Steve chuckled, because, although it was clear that Tony was getting ahead of himself, he couldnât deny that he was feeling a little lightheaded himself. A world trip? The only thing that made those three words exponentially better was the addition of another two words.
With you.
He picked up the coffee cup, the steam rising in a steady stream from it and disappearing into the air above. Smiling at Tony, he placed a firm hand on his shoulder for a second.
âThank you.â
It was sincere and the look of happiness on Tonyâs face, in the crinkles around his eyes, was evident enough. With that, and a final word that he would come visit him and Pepper in the coming week, Steve left the break room, fulling intending to arrive back to you a little earlier than was necessary and forgo some of his break.
You needed your coffee after all.
And so here he was, grinning unnaturally at anyone who arrived with tickets at his stations, messing up his perfectly practised lines and questions and, instead of stumbling and apologising profusely, simply chuckling with a light apology and a small shake of the head at himself. He had even winked at you and hadnât thought twice about how ridiculous he mustâve looked. He was the epitome of giddy.
A beep brought him out of his reverie.
You have been added to a chat with Princess.
Bucky: What is going on with you, pal? Youâve been smiled manically at yourself for the past ten minutes.
Steve: Tell you later, Buck.
Bucky: Can you at least tell me how to change my damn name on this crap?
Steve has left the chat.
Princess suited him too well. He couldnât rob the team of that chuckle every time he was added to a chat.
The shift finished quicker than ever for Steve and what felt like slower than ever for you. Steveâs change in mood was almost worrying, even if it seemed positive, and you cornered him in the staffroom as soon as you arrived there. You both had your lockers open, ridding yourselves of suit jackets that would be needed tomorrow night, Steve passing you your heels that he had carried back for you.
âOkay, come on Rogers. Spill.â
âWhat are you talking about?â he feigned nonchalance, but he was such a terrible liar and he was still smiling. He hadnât stopped smiling since. It was unnerving.
âYou. Your face. Itâs weird,â you argued, pulling out a black duster coat from your locker and weaving your arms into it, pulling it tight around yourself as you hoisted your bag onto one shoulder and shut your locker, âSo tell me whatâs going on.â
âOkay, fine, there is something. Just, donât freak out.â
â...Okay.â
You were beginning to get a little worried, but you tried not to let it show, not wanting to put Steve off telling you whatever was on his mind. He was easily spooked.
âI saw Tony on my break-â
âOh my god! Tony! How is he? Still a little shit?â you said playfully as Steve closed his locker and you both began walking through the airport towards the staff car park.
âStill a little shit, yeah. But heâs good, Pepâs back tomorrow and they have a week off together so heâs naturally ecstatic,â you laughed slightly but looked genuinely happy for your pilot friend and his wife. Steve found himself falling for you just a millimetre more at the happiness you held for other peopleâs happiness, even those you didnât know well. Little moments such as this could add millimetres and millimetres to his fall, âBut anyway, he offered me a gift. And you.â
âReally?â
âYes!â Steve could feel his voice getting more excited and his steps becoming bouncier as you walked through the huge rooms, arms bumping each other every few seconds, âWhat would you say if I told you he was going to pay for us to go on holiday?â
You stopped in your tracks and held out a hand to stop Steve too. You stared at him.
âIs this a joke? Because itâs not funny, you know how much I want to-â
âTravel, yes I do which is why I would never joke about this Y/N. Itâs true.â
âShut up,â you hit his arm then, not being able to process this, âShut up! Wait, wait, we canât let him pay, thatâs ridiculous.â
âDo you know how rich Tony is?â
â...Fair point.â
âI would never usually accept such gifts from him either, trust me, but this? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Two weeks off work, a trip around the world, to the places youâve always talked and dreamt about.â
There were tears in your eyes and whilst Steve was sure they were happy tears, he couldnât help but be a little scared by them. You were still gripping his forearm tightly, to ground yourself, because your head was spinning. You couldnât take this in. Steve wiped a tear that happened to fall onto your chin with the pad of his thumb with a shaky smile.
âAnd youâd be coming with me?â you asked quietly when you found your words.
âYes, I mean, if you donât mind-â
ââCause I donât think I could do this without you.â
He breathed out a long breath. He was worried you wouldnât want him but he shouldâve known you would. Of course you would. You were best friends. He knew he was an important part of your life, even if not in the way he would like, just as you were an important part of his. He turned his forearm in your grip and held your own arm in his hand.
âIâd be there every step of the way, doll. Weâd see the world together.â
His words were so comforting although they did a number on the locks of the boxes at the back of your mind and made your heart jump in its place. Together as friends, you reminded yourself, filling in the blank. You mulled over the proposition in your head. It was all too much.
âWe need to talk about this properly.â
âOf course,â Steve replied readily, feeling you begin to waver.
âAnd Iâll need to talk to Tony.â
âIâm meeting him and Pepper sometime this week, you can come with me.â
âBut if we can get it all sorted⌠well then Iâm in buddy.â
âYou are?â Steve was shocked and overwhelmed and felt like he was jumping over the moon.
âOf course I am! How could I say no? Oh Steve, this is amazing!â
There were a few tears falling now, happy tears that were actually rather unnoticeable, since your grin was taking up your entire face and there was a light in your eyes that Steve hadnât seen in at least a year. Heâd forgotten how beautiful true happiness looked on you.
All too soon he couldnât see it anymore though, because you were clasping his shoulders and bringing him down for a hug, clutching at his back with a ferocity that was new. But this meant so much to you. More than youâd ever be able to tell him.
Tony might be paying for it, but Steve was going to take you around the world. That was everything.
âThank you,â you mumbled into his shoulder, your chin resting on it as his arms melted into your back and he held you to him tightly.
âTonyâs paying-â
âThank you.â
Your insistent tone told him not to argue and so he just squeezed you impossibly tighter.
You were happy. Heâd done his job.

Smooth
Pairings: Chris Evans x Latina!Reader
Word Count: 1580
Warnings: Mentions of Death, Angst, Unrequited love, Fluff (Teeny Bit)
A/N: This is part of @star-spangled-man-with-a-planâ Marvel Play list. I got Smooth by Santana featuring Rob Thomas. I donât have a beta reader to look into this so sorry if it sucks. More announcements at the end (might be a part 2).
December 2018, Bronx, NY
âI donât think I can do this.â you muttered to yourself, looking up at the ceiling.
It had been five days since your grandmother passed away and you were still in complete shock. You had only spoken to three days before. She had been in the hospital for about a week due to her heart condition, but she had been released and was doing a lot better according to her doctor. So when news of her passing reached you while you in the middle of production of the movie you were working on, you thought it was a joke.
You felt the foot of the bed dip, âCome on Y/N,â Your co-star and best friend Chris said softly, patting your thigh, âYou have to go. At least be there for your dad.â
You took one of the extra pillows beside you and pulled it over your head, a small part of you hoping that all of this was a terrible nightmare. You heard him sigh and get up from the bed, âIâll meet you in the lobby.â You heard his footsteps fade away before hearing the door to your hotel room close.
You laid in bed for a few more minutes before finally forcing yourself off the bed and walked into the bathroom.
Chris Evans was a sweetheart. He had been your best friend for almost eight years. You had just moved to Los Angeles when you had been casted as an extra in Captain America: The First Avenger. You were a nervous wreck but he helped you through it and you both had been each otherâs person to lean on. However you had both been cast in a movie where you play each otherâs love interest and itâs making you face certain feelings that you had been trying to repress for a long time.
After taking a quick shower, you quickly got dressed in all black and headed down to the lobby and met up with Chris. Leaving the hotel, you both drove 25 minutes into the South Bronx in silence. As you were nearing the funeral home, reality finally hit you. It wasnât a nightmare. You felt yourself start to get agitated when suddenly, you felt a large hand cover your free hand, giving it a gentle squeeze, âItâs okay doll.â He gave you a small smile, âI got you.â
Walking inside the funeral home, you were met with family member that you havenât seen in years. After greeting everyone, Chris and you made your way over to your mom who was sitting on one of the couches.
âHola ma.â You called out to her.
She snapped her gaze from the ground and onto you, âY/N!â she rushed over to you in a flash and pulled you into a tight embrace, her hot tears soaking your leather jacket.
âHowâs dad?â you asked her in English, wiping some of the tears from your eyes.
âEsta mal.â She answered back to you in spanish, âEl estuvo en el hospital con ella y se le muriĂł en sus brazos.â
You closed your eyes in agony, âOh no.â
Steve looked at you with a quizzical expression on his face, âWhat did she say?â He asked.
âMy dadâŚ.was in the hospital that night.â your voice trembled in response, âShe died in his arms.â
âOh my god doll, Iâm so sorry.â he pulled you into a hug, and surprisingly, it felt nice.
You pulled away from Chris, then turned to look at your mom, âVoy a buscar a mi papa. Tu te acuerdas de Chris verdad?â you asked as she nodded.
âHola papi.â She gave Chris a warm smile, âHow are you?â She asked in her thick spanish accent.
You excused yourself from them and made your way through the throng of people that surrounded you before finally finding your dad, standing by the doorway greeting the other guests.
âHey dad.â you gave the man with graying hair a big hug.
âTook ya long enough kiddo.â He gave you a smile that didnât reach his eyes.
It broke your heart to see him in this position. âIâm so sorry I didnât get here sooner.â
He shook his head, âYou got here as fast as you could kiddo.â
The rest of the day was a blur. It was as if your mind and body were on autopilot. By the time you had gotten back to the hotel, it was almost 11:30.
âCanât wait to get back to my hotel room and pass out.â Chris said as you both stepped out of the elevator.
You stretched out your legs âSame here. Being cooped up in a SUV all day sucks.â
He let out a chuckle, âYeah, Tell me about it.â
You both stopped outside your hotel room. âWell this is me.â You announced nervously.
âOkay.â Chris answered simply, âIâll see you tomorrow morning then.
âOkay.â You said as he turned on his heel and walked down the hall.
You pulled your key card from your pocket and scanned it against the lock but before you can turn the knob to let yourself in, Chris called out to you, âY/N?â
âYeah?â
âIf you need anything doll, you know Iâm next door.â
âRoger that, Cap.â You winked at him playfully and for a split second you thought you saw his cheeks flush pink.
Stepping out of the shower, Chris grabbed a fluffy white towel and wrapped it around his waist. He quickly dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a gray t-shirt and fell back on his bed, turning on the tv and flip through the channels until something came up and sparked his interest.
He looked over at the clock on the bedside table and saw it was almost midnight. He shut off the television and before hearing a tune that he hadnât heard in a very long time.
âMan, it's a hot one Like seven inches from the midday sun I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone But you stay so coolâ
He hummed along to the music until he heard your voice singing along to the song.
âMy muĂąequita, my Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa You're my reason for reason, the step in my groove
And if you say this life ain't good enough I would give my world to lift you up I could change my life to better suit your mood Because you're so smooth And it's just like the ocean under the moon It's the same as the emotion that I get from you You got the kind of loving that can be so smooth Gimme your heart, make it real, or else forget about itâ
He was surprised at how well your singing voice was. Chuckling to himself, he propped himself up against the wall and closed his eyes, humming along to the soothing sounds of Carlos Santana.
âFuck.â you muttered to yourself as you stood outside Chrisâ hotel room, running your fingers through your hair, âWhat am I doing here?â
You paced up and down the hall for a moment before finally building up the courage to knock on his door.
âI should go.â You muttered to yourself, when suddenly the door swung open and Chris walked out looking down at you.
âY/N?â He asked groggily, making you weak in the knees, âWhatâs wrong?â
âI uhâŚâ you looked down at your feet, âI canât sleep.â You looked up at him and gave him a nervous smile, âCan I spend the night with you?â
âOf course doll.â He replied, stepping aside and letting you in.
âYou still thinking about your grandma?â He asked as he walked passed you to the other side of the room where the mini fridge was and pulled out two small brown liquor bottles.
âYeah.â you let out a sigh, thanking him as he handed you one of the bottles.
Unscrewing the caps, you both made a quick toast and downed the shot.
âMan thatâs strong.â You grimaced at the taste of the whiskey.
You stayed up for hours, talking to Chris about the memories of the sweet little old lady that helped you pursue your dreams.
Before you knew it, it was 4:30 in the morning, âI should get going.â You slurred as you got up from the couch but fell back down immediately, âGod, Iâm so drunk.â you let out a laugh.
âMaybe you should lie down Y/N.â Chris suggested as he grabbed of the extra pillows and handed it to you.
You took it and tossed it aside, feeling brave as you got up from the couch and walked towards him.
âMaybeâŚâ you trailed off, looking up at him with your best attempt at a sultry look, âYou should kiss me.â
Before he could open his mouth, you wrapped your arms around his neck and crashed your lips against his.
At first he was shocked, but then he kissed you back, before immediately he pushed you away.
âNo!â Chris said in shock.
âOh my god.â You sobered up fast, all the color draining from your face, âChris I am so sor-â
He cut you off, âYou gotta go Y/N.â
You nodded and quickly made your way out of his hotel room and made it back into your hotel room, slamming the door behind you and slid down to the floor, âSmooth Y/NâŚâ you chastising yourself for being capable of doing so stupid, âReal fuckinâ smooth.â
A/N: I am so sorry that I havenât been on tumblr lately. Iâve been going through a massive writerâs block and depression. I want to dedicate this story to my grandmother who passed away last month. She was the sweetest little old lady and I miss her so much.Â

fic: Meet Me Under the Spotlight - Part II
Rating: PG-13 Word Count: ~5800 Characters: Steve/Natasha and the ensemble Summary: A continuation of that celebrity social media au no one asked for.
A/N: I hesitated about revisiting this story because the format was so unique and it flowed incredibly well and I wasnât sure if I could replicate that. Also, in terms of the universe itself, I wasnât sure what story I wanted to tell next that would still be fun to read through social media. With that said, I thought about it a lot and had so many things I wanted to add and other characters I wanted to include. I just planned on revisiting this âverse through headcanons or blurbs for you darlings, but I took another crack at it instead, and I had just as much fun writing it this time as I did the first time!
By the way, Iâve officially dubbed this âverse the Marvelous âverse. Because I will be coming back to it.

âMarvelousâ Season Finale Recap: âHow the Mighty Fallâ
May 25, 2017. 8:12 AM PST
SPOILER ALERT! This post contains plot details from the Marvelous season three finale, episode twenty-two, âHow the Mighty Fall,â below.
Letâs start by getting this out there: no, weâre still not over it. And with three whole months between now and when Marvelous is scheduled to start filming Season 4, weâre sure the tears wonât stop flowing for a while.
Last nightâs episode was the culmination of every heartbreaking fight we had to endure between our heroes, and every hasty action they took came back full circle with a sucker punch to our hearts! This was the lowest point the series has come to yet, and even after watching an entire season of everything falling apart, we still didnât expect it to happen in such a spectacular fashion.
Weâll be back to get into the gory details soon, but in case you were too caught up in your tears to follow every minute of the finale, here are the highlights:
Black Widowâs betrayal that sent fans into a rage at the end of last weekâs episode - episode twenty-one, âA Butterfly in a Webâ - turned out to be for good reasons. Which we never doubted, but did you have to take such a hard shot at the Captain to do it?
Evidently, yes. Because not only did the Captain realize too little too late that she was protecting him, but his initial abandonment of her after their fallout ended in grave consequences. He barely makes it to her in time before she can bleed out to death, and when she wakes up, she has no recollection of anything. Not of what happened to her, not of betraying him, and not of anything that has to do with the Team at all. Weâre not sure exactly how far this memory loss goes, but it was very clear from her confused and shaken expression when she wakes up that itâs pretty grim. And now that sheâs without her memories, the Captain is more lost than ever. Guess it takes temporarily (hopefully temporarily?) losing every precious moment together to put things into perspective.
The escalating tension between Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch is irony at its finest: Quicksilver has spent the entire season as the overprotective older brother to Scarlet Witch, which unfortunately meant that Scarlet Witch has spent the entire season feeling sheltered and suffocated. She finally gets what she wants - a chance to put her newfound control over her powers to work, without Quicksilver hovering over her shoulder - and that left her open to being kidnapped. Understandably, Scarlet Witch could have avoided this with her eyes closed and both hands tied, but she had a little something else to deal with:
The Winter Soldier and Falcon, who have had no love lost between them this season, are quite literally at each otherâs throats when they join Scarlet Witch to investigate a lead that takes them into the mountains to sniff out a secret bunker. Their fight last night had been the biggest and ugliest yet, and as expected, they donât realize how gravely it would cost them until Scarlet Witch - too wrapped up in trying to keep them from killing each other - is snatched from under their noses. And no, it wasnât the thing they needed to come to some kind of truce. If anything, it only made things worse.
Hawkeye and Thor had left in the previous episode to follow a lead of their own, and as expected, they also run into a nasty baddie of their own. And the blowout was far more fatal than you could imagine. When Agent 13 and Agent Hill were finally able to find them and bring them back to the safety of the Facility, they realized that Thorâs powers were completely gone - so it looks as if healing his eye isnât something that will happen soon - and Hawkeye is in a coma.
Looks like weâll need to stock up on tissues for now, because with no indication about how things will end up for another few months, weâre left with broken heroes and even more broken hearts.
What scene was the biggest tearjerker for you? Let us know in the comments below!

Just In: âMarvelousâ star Natasha Romanoff appears on The Late Night Show, drops exclusive Season 4 teaser trailer (September 28, 2017)
Everything You Need to Know About the âMarvelousâ Season 4 Teaser Trailer
September 29, 2017. 12:55 AM PST
Last week the Marvelous official Twitter announced that the showâs teaser trailer would not be included in the CW sizzle reel due to âproduction complicationsâ, much to the disappointment of us Marvels everywhere. Little did we know that not only were we still getting that teaser, but we were getting it an entire week early!
When Natasha Romanoff dropped by The Late Night Show last night, it seemed like a typical guest appearance. But we should have known something was up when, just hours before airtime, the Marvelous cast and crew posted tweets upon tweets encouraging fans to tune in, then took to Instagram to post photos of the entire gang gathered in Nick Furyâs penthouse apartment to watch the show. We know this cast and crew love to show their support for each other, but all this seemed like a lot of fuss over a simple talk show appearance, right?
So. Wrong.
âI was so sure Iâd get her to dish about her trip,â Peter Quill shared after the show, referring to the Hawaiian vacation where Natasha Romanoff and co-star Steve Rogers seemed to be closer and cozier than ever. Photos of the couple out and about across the islands had made fans swoon over their screens, but not nearly as much as the incredibly intimate photo the pair had posted to Twitter themselves! But if we thought that Peter Quill would finally get the scoop we all wanted, we were mistaken. âI was prepared for every trick Nat couldâve thrown my way except for this one!â Quill had laughed. âI still want answers, but, come on! How could you top that surprise?â
In case youâve been living under a rock -- or if you want to watch it a few dozen more times like we have -- then hereâs the Marvelous Season 4 Teaser Trailer that Natasha surprised the world with last night.
...Couldnât get the video to load? Donât worry, weâve got all 1:15 minutes of it broken down:
We start with a black screen, and the Captain narrating: âWhen I woke up, they told us weâd won. That the war was over.â
Flashes of scenes in quick succession: Hawkeye in an infirmary bed connected to tubes, bandaging wrapped around his eyes; Scarlet Witch screaming, hands pressed to her head; the Winter Soldier and Falcon on a snowy mountain, both doubled over, blood on the snow; Agent 13 throwing Iron Manâs helmet across the room, nearly hitting Agent Hillâs head as it cracks against the wall.
Black Widow standing in her room, her back to the camera as she reaches for something on the desk, fading into a shot of the Captain watching her from the doorway as his narration continues: âBut they didnât tell me what weâd lost.â
Thor and Quicksilver in the training room, Quicksilver grabbing Thorâs arm and yanking him back as he says, âWe have to go after her!â with Thor curtly replying, âIf we do, sheâs as good as dead.â
Scarlet Witch gathering her energy between her palms, her eyes glowing as men in the foreground aim their rifles; a quick second of nothing, then a shot of a bunker in the snowy mountains erupting into a red explosion, fading into a scene of Falcon and Winter Soldier watching it collapse from afar.
Agent Hill, Agent 13, and Hawkeye (his eyes still wrapped in bandaging) standing over a holographic table as Agent 13, clearly distraught, asks, âAll that sacrifice and we only put a Band-Aid on the problem?â Agent Hill answers with, âMaybe, and itâs going to be for nothing if we canât fix this,â to which Hawkeye scoffs and replies, âLook at us. We canât even fix ourselves.â
An ominous shot of the cube-like form of energy used to seal Thorâs powers within it, currents of electricity sparking out from its core; then Thor wincing in pain before hurling a weight across the training room.
Black Widow and the Captain standing close together as she hesitantly reaches up to touch his face; then the Captain sitting on his bed, head down, as Black Widow kneels in front of him and asks, âTell me what to do to help,â to which the Captain replies in a strained voice, âI donât know.â
Scarlet Witch in the snow, surrounded by the debris of the exploded laboratory, and then the Winter Soldier lifting her into his arms as she tucks her face into his chest, her entire body shaking.
Falcon pressing a kiss to Agent 13â˛s hair as she closes her eyes, his voice playing over the scene: âSo how do we do this?â
Then Falcon and Agent 13 startling as someone enters the room, Iron Man emerging from the doorway with his arm in a sling and a bruise on his cheek. A quick cut to Agent 13 crying as she throws her arms around Iron Man, his voice playing over the scene: âWe start with my least favorite thing to do.â
Cut to black, with Iron Man finishing his dialogue: âWe ask for help.â
Then a close-up shot of purple light passing over someoneâs skin and dissolving into a black, textured material as it spreads. This figure turns around, revealing a complete shot of his high-tech, full-bodied, cat-like suit; then he glances up at the ceiling as another figure -- slighter and smaller in stature, in a blue-and-red suit with a spider across his chest -- repels from the ceiling, landing on his feet.
Best. Teaser. EVER.
And with Marvelous not returning until December, itâ a good thing that we Marvels know how to keep ourselves busy. Bring on the theories!

Happy Halloween! âMarvelousâ Treats Fans with More Insight on Upcoming Season
October 31, 2017. 8:25 AM PST.
SPOILER ALERT! This post contains on-set stills from Season 4 of Marvelous.
When we were kids, we gorged on candy for Halloween. Now, we gorge on spoilers!
(But candy would still be appreciated.)
This morning, the Marvelous official Twitter announced that they had a little something special for us Marvels on the showâs official site, and they did not disappoint! Not only were we treated to on-set photos -- confirmed to have been from the start of filming back in August -- but we were also given the official synopses of the first three episodes!
Bonus: none of scenes shown seem to be related to the scenes teased in the trailer.
Can you say, âmore spoilersâ?

But wait: thereâs MORE!
IN SOMNIS VERITAS - Season 4, Episode 1
As the Captain (Steve Rogers) struggles to deal with Black Widowâs (Natasha Romanoff) memories being lost, Agent Hill (Maria Hill) tries to pick up the pieces of the Teamâs latest fallout, especially as Thor (Thor Odinson) starts to spiral without his powers and Hawkeye (Clint Barton) remains in a coma. Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes) and Falcon (Sam Wilson) fear that their time to rescue Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) may be running out.
THE DARKEST NIGHT - Season 4, Episode 2
Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) realizes that her powers are fluctuating due to the experiments performed by her still-unnamed abductor (guest star Edwin Jarvis), which she fears will have catastrophic side effects. Elsewhere, as extraterrestrial weapons continue to move between counties, Agent 13 (Sharon Carter) urges the Team to take action. Realizing the distress sheâs causing the Captain (Steve Rogers), Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) asks him to help jog her memories.
BEFORE DAWN - Season 4, Episode 3
With the Captain (Steve Rogers) opening up to her and the Team reunited once more, Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) starts to get flashes of what she believes are her lost memories, though she hesitates to tell anyone. Meanwhile, the return of the Director (writer/producer, guest star Nick Fury) gives Agent Hill (Maria Hill) a new push to rally and regroup, while the arrival of Black Panther (Tâchalla Tâchaka) and Spider-Man (Peter Parker) gives the Team the motivation to move forward.
While we now have a little insight on what to expect from the start of the season, weâre still wondering about those wedding photos posted by the cast back in August. Is it a dream? An illusion? A flash-forward?
Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

AE! Exclusive: Spoilers Straight from the Cast of âMarvelousâ
November 14, 2017. 8:02 AM PST
SPOILER ALERT! This post contains plot details from the season premiere of Marvelous.
(If any of you Marvels successfully resisted the urge to continue reading, know that we are incredibly impressed.)
Thatâs right, Marvels. With the Season 4 premiere just a month away, Access Entertainment! received an exclusive invitation to visit the set. And while we were there, we sat down with some of the cast and crew to squeeze out juicy details on what to expect from the upcoming premiere.
(WATCH: Access Entertainmentâs Entire First Look from the Set of âMarvelousâ)
Ready for the spoilers? Yeah, neither were we.
1. The premiere will center around the theme of dreams, and Steve Rogers (playing the Captain) shares that the entire episode should be an emotional roller-coaster. Ready your tissues, Marvels.
STEVE ROGERS: Thereâs a very blurred line between dreams and nightmares and thatâs something the premiere really plays on. We shot two or three, sometimes even four versions of the same dream scenes that were so tonally different from each other. There are really low points but there are really high points, too, and itâs just one of those things you know will have that punch and then keep on punching.
ACCESS ENTERTAINMENT: And weâre guessing one of the Captainâs dreams must involve Natasha [Romanoff, playing Black Widow] in that gorgeous wedding dress all over Instagram?
ROGERS: [laughs] That was actually the very first scene we shot of the season. We read the script together, so we knew it was coming, just not when. But itâs the first day, and weâre all in tuxes and gowns and theyâve got us in this beautiful church set. And I didnât even see Nat in her dress until we started filming. Nick [Fury, the showâs writer/producer] still wonât admit it but Iâm sure that was intentional.
ACCESS ENTERTAINMENT: How romantic!
ROGERS: Yeah, donât let the guy fool you. Heâs just a big softie.
2. Weâll pick up right where the finale left off. Which means throwing salt onto all those wounds that still havenât healed; their wounds AND ours.
SHARON CARTER [playing Agent 13]: You can watch the finale and then the premiere back-to-back and itâll sort of be one extended episode. Thatâs the idea. We put these characters through every circle of hell and back and we donât want to just jump forward and make you fill in the gaps. We take you with us every step of their emotional journey like we always have, and I canât share anything, of course, but it doesnât take long for them to start bouncing back. Itâs sort of our way of saying, âHey, we broke your hearts and made you wait half a year because we suck but now youâll reap the rewards.â
3. After watching an entire season of our heroes falling apart, we can look forward to them coming back together stronger than ever. Itâs no secret that watching episode after episode of our heroes fighting among each other was heartbreaking. But Wanda [Maximoff, playing Scarlet Witch] dished that this wonât be the case for the upcoming season.
WANDA MAXIMOFF: You wonât have to worry about us being at each otherâs throats nearly as much anymore. When you hit rock bottom, thereâs nowhere to go but up!
ACCESS ENTERTAINMENT: Thank goodness!
MAXIMOFF: I know! [laughs] Itâs always fun to play those kinds of scenes, you know? Theyâre very raw and real, and itâs cathartic but in a very safe way to channel all your emotions and let them out. But itâs still draining. We were all so tired from âfightingâ with each other by the time we wrapped. We looked forward to having a little fun again and Nick absolutely gave us that
ACCESS ENTERTAINMENT: So we can expect a lot more smiles this season? Maybe even a few laughs?
MAXIMOFF: Absolutely! The first few episodes will deal with the aftermath of the finale, of course. You donât just sweep that under the rug. But everyone has suffered so much individually, this season youâll see them lean on each other to heal. At the core, they have a bond you canât really fit into one type of mold and itâll be what helps them turn things around.
4. This season will explore the dynamics between our characters in ways we thought we could only dream of. Which means, yes, Marvels. They are in fact listening.
MAXIMOFF: Youâll see characters share scenes together that didnât have much interaction outside of the group before, and youâll see relationships in new lights. Iron Man [played by Tony Stark] and Quicksilver [played by Pietro Maximoff] got off to a rocky start, and theyâre in a civil place now, but youâll see them develop a genuine friendship. Iron Man will really pull through for Quicksilver and that finally gives them some common ground. Agent Hill [played by Maria Hill] and Thor [played by Thor Odinson] have always butt heads here or there because theyâre just so different. Theyâre almost the last duo youâd expect to come together and thatâs the beauty of it. They end up leaning on each other and itâs beautiful. All of these odd, new dynamics will get their own spotlights and itâs so much fun.
Thereâs even some role reversal in key relationships. Like with Hawkeye [played by Clint Barton]. He was an important mentor to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, and now with his condition heâll turn to them for guidance. And with Black Widow, she really built up Scarlet Witch and helped her become confident in her abilities and now Scarlet Witch will get to return the favor. Sheâll be there to help Black Widow get back on her feet. She becomes Black Widowâs biggest confidant, and that will be such a strong thing for Scarlet Witch, who is in a dark place at the start of the season. These more intimate moments - theyâve been my favorite to film so far.
5. Newcomers Black Panther (played by Tâchalla Tâchaka) and Spider-Man (played by Peter Parker) wonât take long to join the fray. We learned that we wonât be seeing them in the premiere, but at least we wonât have to wait much longer! Itâs confirmed that Black Panther and Spider-Man will make their debuts before the end of the second episode.
TâCHALLA TâCHAKA: I was surprised to learn during the table read that Nick wasted no time introducing us. He had us involved from the very first day of filming, even though Peter and I would traditionally not have been called to the set just yet. We were very much included between takes. You would think coming onto a show of this magnitude, joining a cast so established - that would be an intimidating thing, youâd think. But as soon as I got the part everyone reached out to me on their own. We talked, not always about the show. I felt a fast connection. So when Peter and I were watching that first scene being filmed, when Natasha and Steve recited those vows, we were hit just as hard as everyone else. I choked up. I donât mind sharing that, Iâm not heartless. [laughs]
6. Thereâs a very good chance that every (well, ALMOST every) character that has crossed our heroesâ paths will make a reappearance before the end of the season. At least, it seems that way.
SAM WILSON [playing Falcon]: Iâm just making guesses here, but with the way these last three months have gone, itâs probably a good guess. I think weâre somewhere between episodes nine and ten right now and weâve already brought so many faces back. Sometimes weâll walk onto a set or get rewrites, and weâve brought back someone we thought had been written off definitively, and in these cool twists you wonât expect.
ACCESS ENTERTAINMENT: Any names you can hint at?
WILSON: Nah! No, donât get me in trouble. [laughs] I canât even hint at anything, but - trust me, itâll be good. Fans will be excited to revisit these characters and see these shout-outs to old subplots. Some of it will be tying up loose ends, some of itâs just plain fun. Nickâs even got plans to have every guest director come back for an episode if scheduling works out. Donât worry, I was allowed to share that. I asked. But Peggy [Carter] is already coming back for the mid-season finale and I think theyâve talked about her having a bigger hand in the second half of the season.
ACCESS ENTERTAINMENT: Oh, thatâs exactly what we wanted to hear. Sheâs been involved in those episodes that make me swoon every time!
WILSON: Yeah, she knows how to tug on those heart-strings. She and Nick sat down, I think it was the middle of Season 2. But she and Nick sat us all down and we went around and said where we thought our characters would be in a few seasons and what we wanted for them. And it was all domestic. [laughs] No matter how crazy the world is, those same basic dreams are at our core, you know? And those are Peggyâs favorite stories to tell. Old romantics will be very happy with the intimate moments we fit into these episodes. Itâll be good. Real good.
7. Speaking of intimate: âItâs a very romantic season,â Bucky [Barnes, playing the Winter Soldier] shares. Cue squeals!
BARNES: Obviously the tone of the series will still be there, we donât deviate into some kind of romantic drama. But youâve seen the highs and lows of all these relationships, youâve seen these characters go through so much and now theyâve earned this happiness. Itâs a big turning point for our favorite couples, and rather than âwill they, wonât theyâ you get to see them as a unit. Thatâs kind of the theme of this whole season, âus against the world,â whether itâs couples or friendships or the Team. Itâs a great message.
ACCESS ENTERTAINMENT: Can you give us any hints?
BARNES: I wish I could, I really do. We just - weâre all having such a hard time biting our tongues. Each script is better and better and we want to share that with everyone, we want them to be excited with us. But I promise you, if youâve sat through the last three years with your fingers crossed itâll pay off. We almost jump the gun in a sense, because it goes from this slow burn to just diving head-first and itâs so satisfying. Even for myself, as a fan of this story and these characters, I see how far everything has come and I just get all tingly. [laughs] Itâs great.
Well, there you have it!
It seems like this season will be the most emotional one yet, and luckily for us it sounds like it wonât be of the heart-breaking variety. Hopefully.
What are YOU most excited about for the upcoming season? Let us know in the comments below!

"Our kids were conceived to that one.â
Chewing the fat with Marshall Crenshaw about his 1983 classic, just reissued on Intervention Records
Itâs not often you get one of your all time favorite albums from your dentist.
So Iâm in 9th grade, and making back and forths in the parentsâ station wagon to the dental school at Case Western Reserve University because my four top front teeth were all agog. (My mom figured it was because Iâd fallen down the basement stairs when I was one and landed on my face.) Numerous visits that included poking, prodding, and endless numbing shots into the inside of the top jaw was no way to enter the high school years. But having a hep craw doc helped.Â
Dr. Sasthma (âItâs like asthma, but with an Sâ -- funny guy) was his name, and between spit suction and implorations to floss more, we fit in fun music discussions. On the last visit right before the big pulling and twisting procedure, Sasthma sits me down and says, âThis one today ainât gonna be easy, but Iâve got a little prize for you afterwards.â And for the next hour and a half, I sat there with my mouth open (some would say that would not be out of the ordinary), while the doc poked around and made chin-scratching/brow-furrowing decisions, all while my jaw muscles started to atrophy.
Finally, when it was done, he reaches behind the giant dentist chair claw machine thing and pulls out Marshall Crenshawâs debut album (Warner Bros., 1982). After I had regaled him with how much I liked âSomeday, Somewayâ at the previous visit, he said he tracked down the album for me, though the shrink wrap had been peeled. âWell, I had to give it a listen, and yeah, itâs great!â
L-R: Robert Crenshaw, Marshall Crenshaw, Chris Donato - Photographer unknown
Not only did that little act make me much more tolerant of dentist visits going forward, it gave me one of my favorite albums. Crenshawâs revived Buddy Holly-meets-nervous with opening pickup lines pop classicism was like a fresh, new toothbrush over all the dreary, dusty, classic rock of my Cleveland radio dial depression, until I took a sharp left into college radio that summer where I first heard Crenshaw, and a lot more. (Thanks WCSB, WRUW, and WUJC!)Â
Itâs hard to imagine today, hearing Crenshawâs should-couldabeen power pop nuggets, but his clean looks and simple two-minute tunes made him a little too throwback odd for mainstream radio back then. Who knows or cares, as he still piled up an impressive major label canon before furthering into a long-running career of solid albums and consistent touring. The days of figuring out the whys and hows of mainstream radio play now seems about as useful as wondering how to get better reception on your TV.
Crenshawâs sophomore album, Field Day (Warner Bros., 1983)? Maybe even better, filled with a slightly wider songwriting palette and production to match it. The term âsophomore albumâ never fit better for me, as it landed right around my sophomore year, and was a perfect companion on my journey into hook-heavy rockânâroll obsession and mythical, sun-setting summer romance mythology/reality.Â
So imagine my excitement when I got a press release about an impending reissue of Field Day. Despite itâs initial hefty, if brief, publicity push, Top 40-sniffing hit single (âWhenever Youâre on My Mindâ), and big time producer (Steve Lillywhite), the record didnât (say it with me) âsell as much as hoped for.â And though Crenshaw did not fall into the usual âgot droppedâ holes (three more major label albums followed), Field Day did lag just a bit behind the CD explosion, having fallen out of print, and was never given a proper CD version for a few years.Â
I only point this out because, goddamn it, itâs a perfect guitar pop record and is one of the best of that fleeting, early-80s moment where bright-eyed corners of the record industry hoped the world might once again embrace melancholy-flecked, otherwise blue-sky singalong songs. âTwas that âskinny tieâ moment where loads of slacks-sporting Midwesterners parlayed punkâs energy into their pre-teen guitar lessons filled with Beatles covers. And in even that, Crenshaw did not exactly fit -- kind of the front tooth along my otherwise straight top row.
Upstart vinyl reissue label, Intervention Records -- who seem to have a knack for snaring olâ major label titles from oblivion --Â recently released a fine, vinyl-only edition of Field Day, including an extra 12âł EP of remix and live stuff, and different artwork.
I caught up with Crenshaw internet-wise to get his take on the new update of his old classic.Â
If memory serves, I saw you play "High School" by the MC5 at an outdoor BBQ fest thing in downtown Cleveland in, like, 1985/6. Any memories of that, and did you cover that tune often?Â
I remember that event in Cleveland, like a fried-chicken festival, right? I remember that we used "The Greasy Chicken,â by Andre Williams as walk-on music that day (and on other days). The MC5 song would've been "Tonight.â I never played "High School,â except with DKT-MC5 in 2004. I played "Tonight" a lot over the years. I grew up in the Detroit area, was a big MC5 fan. "Tonight" was sort of a local hit single, got played on CKLW. A band that I was in played it at an audition for a dance at our high school, and I can still picture a girl sitting in front of me watching me play and sing that song, really enthralled by what we were doing. That girl was Ione. She and I are still together.
You grew up in Detroit, right? When did you move, and what were some early influences from living in Detroit, music and otherwise?
I lived in the Detroit area from birth (1953) until 1977, grew up with Rock and Roll music all around me, fell in love with the music during childhood. Detroit was a big test market for records. There were lots of regional hits, on national and local labels. Two that immediately come to mind are, "When You Walk In the Room" by Jackie DeShannon, and "Mind Over Matter" by Nolan Strong and The Diablos -- both massive Detroit hits, both part of my musical DNA. As far as influences besides music go, I don't know where to start. That could turn into a book.
Though the only book Crenshaw has done so far was this excellent compendium of rockânâroll movies; also, his musical knowledge goes deep. If you can do so, track down this amazing hillbilly compilation he put together in 1989.
Field Day, in title and cover art, was a reference to high school, I assume. But I remember some reviews saying that that record was a kind of more mature version of you -- bigger production, some more serious themes, etc. So what was your inspiration for the high school nod?
I had nothing whatsoever to do with creating the packaging for that record. When we finished recording, I went on vacation with Ione and Robert to visit Robert's girlfriend at the time. She was working on location outside Prague on the movie Amadeus (which I've still never seen. I should see it, I saw it being made). And when I got back, the album cover had been put together by my then-manager. His father co-owned a big company that published magazines. My manager had worked for that company for a minute, and thought that the presentation of images was something that he knew something about. I hated the albumâs front cover, got talked into approving it. OOPS! I don't think Warners was pleased that instead of using their art department, he'd hired an expensive design firm to create such a dodgy end-product. He came up with the title; I do like the title, didn't think of high school when he suggested it. "Having a field day" is just a figure of speech, doesn't refer to high school, necessarily. It just means "having a great time,â and indeed we really had a great time making the album.
It said the art for this reissue is how you originally intended.Â
I wanted to change the front cover for the reissue, was extremely happy that Intervention Records was into the idea. The only thing that made sense was to use some pre-existing artwork from the time period, namely the front of the picture sleeve for the "Whenever You're On My Mindâ 7âł.
I just loved Field Day when it came out. I am sure you are more than aware of the "debates" over the production -- which to me made total sense for those songs and that point of your career. What is your take on what you asked of Steve Lillywhite, and how you felt it turned out, back then?
I'm really glad that you like it. I know that the album was "controversial" in the day. I think that all the criticism it got back then was completely lame. When I listened to the first playback of the finished mixes, I had my feet up on the edge of the console; I thought, âThis is an album that can kick the world's ass.â We all loved working with Steve. He was the only producer that I talked to going in, my first choice. He said yes right away, and that was that.
I'll assume you were involved in this reissue. What were your thoughts on revisiting it?
I heard about the reissue project after it was already underway, and was just delighted about it. I'd even say that I felt a sense of gratitude that somebody wanted to honor the album, which is what Intervention has done. As a career experience, "Field Day" was an instance where the party-train just ran right into the ditch. I loved the album, didn't get why some people were perplexed by it. I got the test pressing from Intervention and was knocked out. It's just a unique and beautiful Rock and Roll record, if you ask me. And the people at Intervention love it as much as I do.
Yourâs truly probably bugging Crenshaw about the MC5 again, post-back alley gig, August, 2012, NYC
Any good stories during the recording of Field Day? In-studio disputes, after-session shenanigans, anything like that?
I don't remember any disputes until after the record was done -- then the shit-storm began. We had nothing but fun while doing it, and there was a festive atmosphere at the sessions. They were all at night, and afterwards we'd go out. I remember going one night to the Roxy Roller Rink disco on the West Side with Steve and a couple of the other guys. This was when hip-hop was first starting to come downtown. When we finally got out of there it was broad daylight. "Monday Morning Rock" was partly inspired by that night...
"Whenever You're on My Mind" was a demo for awhile before it appeared on Field Day, right? How come it didn't make it onto the debut?
I wrote that one before I wrote most of the songs on my first album. When I did the first album I wanted to do all the newer ones first. I'm always most excited about whatever the new thing is. But then, going into "Field Day," I was really glad to have "Whenever" in reserve. And I'm glad that it got recorded when it did, under those circumstances.
The instrumental of "Blues is King" from that era is one of my favorite instrumentals, and just has one of those, maybe accidental, gorgeous, simple demo production vibes. Was that originally an instrumental and you decided to add lyrics later, or what?
I did that instrumental version after I'd written the music; the lyrics didn't happen until a few months later. I do like it as just a piece of instrumental music. And those are Mosrite guitars, which I love the sound of.
Field Day standout, "Our Town" -- when you made Field Day, I believe you'd been living in NYC for awhile. Did you pine to get on a train back to Detroit sometimes? What were the bad and good things about trying to get your music career going in NYC in the very early 1980s?
I never pined to get back to Detroit (although I like visiting there now). That song was written about New York. I'd been on the road for most of a year when I wrote it. I did take a train to Detroit once, from NYC. It was during the last days when Michigan Central Station was still being used by Amtrak. I'd never seen the station during it's heyday, but when I got there it looked not that different than what it looks like now, like an absolute wreck. I still remember the look on my mother's face standing there waiting for me. She looked like she felt ashamed, and like, "You had to take the train and make me go through this, right?" Getting my music career going in NYC in the early '80s was a blast. The scene embraced us right away. It was like dying and going to heaven.Â
Did you find yourself attracted to the CBGB scene at the time?Â
Yes, we played CBGB many times. I think we even held an attendance record there for a minute, or maybe I dreamt that. But our last couple shows there were mob scenes. I really had my ears and mind open in all different directions during those years in New York, and I can't overstate how much I loved the NY scene then, with all it's diversity, innovation, etc. I'm still proud to have been part of it. And I'm including NY radio in this declaration. I had lots of great go-to stations like WBLS and WKTU ("urban"), WLIB (Caribbean music), WFMU (free-form), WKCR (Jazz), WNYU, with "The Afternoon Show,â and the "Wavebreaker" countdown on Fridays, WNEW ('cause they played us). On and on...
There were a ton of "skinny tie" power pop bands around in the very early '80s too, many from the Midwest. Did you play with the Shoes, Knack, Romantics, Plimsouls, etc.? Were there ones that stuck out for you? I feel like you weren't roped into that signing frenzy trend though.
I played with The Plimsouls in NY once. I loved them, became friends with Peter [Case] back then. But one of my fears in those days was that anybody might lump us in with that Anglophile âskinny tieâ thing. I hated most of it, not all of it. I didn't like The Knack, didn't identify with what they were doing, didn't want anybody to identify us with what they were doing. I feel bad saying so, but I'm answering your question. Again, we came out of the NY club scene which was really diverse and eclectic. I wanted our stuff to reflect that as best I could. Another one of my fears, since we took off so fast in NY, was that somebody might tag us as the "Next Big Thing,â and unfortunately that did happen. I had a real sense of doom when I read all that stuff about my first album in Rolling Stone.
Oh, also, we were never part of any signing frenzy. We got our record deal by packing out every NY club we played at, getting our stuff on "mainstream" FM rock radio when they never played local bands on indie labels. We earned it the way you did back then.
"What Time Is It?" -- how did you decide on that cover? I assume you were a big doo wop fan. Once you got to NYC, did you get to play with or meet any old doo wop favorites?
I don't think that happened, but now I wish that it had. It would've been great to meet Randy and The Rainbows, for instance. "Denise" is one of those records that gets me every time. Or Eugene Pitt of The Jive Five. It's too bad I never met him, even after I covered their tune (actually a Feldman-Goldstein-Gottehrer tune, but anyway).
Can you tell me about the making of the "Whenever You're on My Mind" video? Were you one of those who was suspicious of videos back then?
Hahahahaha! By the time we did that one I was really enthusiastic about videos, wanted us to get on that bandwagon. It seemed like most of my favorite ones were British, so we went over there and found a British director. I'm laughing thinking about it now. We tried.
Finally, where would you rank Field Day in your catalog?Â
I was really on my game just then. It was some kind of a pinnacle, as far as that moment in my life goes. And it seems to be my most beloved album. People tell me all kinds of things about it, like, "Our kids were conceived to that one.â

Gregg Allman â The Midnight Rider Crafting Music His Way!
By: Arlene R. Weiss
The legendary Gregg Allman â photo credit: Patricia OâDriscollÂ
Legend, music pioneer, and amazing blue-eyed soul stylist Gregg Allman can proudly lay claim to being one of the all time great, influential, landmark artists in rock history.
After some forty five years making music with his esteemed Allman Brothers Band, the ABB retired last October 2014 after playing an acclaimed slate of finale shows at New Yorkâs Beacon Theater.
Allman, however is one exuberant musical road warrior and has no plans whatsoever to ever retire.
In keeping with his storied musical roots, Allman, much like the many venerable blues and R&B artists he has performed with and been influenced by, is busier than ever crafting new and exciting music projects.
Allman is a supreme solo artist who has written, recorded, and performed some of his most stellar craftwork on his own. He has enjoyed a highly successful solo career since 1973, launched by The Allman Brothers Bandâs rejection of one of his most nuanced and emotionally rich songs, the enigmatic âQueen Of Heartsâ. That rejection spurred Allman to go into the studio and cut his own debut solo album, the R&B and soul imbued, deeply personal âLaid Backâ. Heâs since released numerous acclaimed gold and platinum solo albums and toured with his solo groups, simultaneously while writing, recording, and performing with The Allman Brothers Band.

These days, Allman now very much looks forward to dedicating all of his time towards songwriting, recording, and performing with his new eight member solo band. The current lineup, which Gregg expounds as the best ensemble heâs assembled yet, includes bassist Ron Johnson, drummer Steve Potts, keyboardist Ben Stivers, saxophonists Jay Collins and Art Edmaiston, Dennis Marion on trumpet, former ABB percussionist Marq Quinones, and Musical Director, guitarist Scott Sharrard.
Gregg lights up the stage with his band, while eloquently strumming his acoustic guitar, crafting richly nuanced textures on his beloved Hammond B3, and singing out his heart with sublime phrasing and soulful, purposeful emotion.
Last year some of musicâs most esteemed artists honored and paid tribute to Allman at a special January 10, 2014 concert held at Atlantaâs historic Fox Theater. That concert, which featured Vince Gill, Jackson Browne, Robert Randolph, John Hiatt, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Trace Adkins, and Dr. John was released as the sterling CD/DVD All My Friends: Celebrating The Songs & Voice Of Gregg Allman.
Allman is especially proud and exuberant discussing his new live CD/DVD, Gregg Allman Live: Back To Macon, GA, recorded and filmed live at Macon, Georgiaâs Grand Opera House, which will be released August 7, 2015 on Rounder Records.
The recording showcases dynamic live performances and interpretations of some of Greggâs most stunning solo repertoire including âQueen Of Heartsâ and âIâm No Angelâ, and Allmanâs superb readings of friend Jackson Browneâs âThese Daysâ, Wilson Pickettâs âI Found A Loveâ, and Ray Charlesâ âBrightest Smile In Townâ. Allman Brothers Band signatures âMelissaâ, âOne Way Outâ, âMidnight Riderâ, âDonât Keep Me Wonderinââ, âAinât Wastinâ Time No Moreâ, âMidnight Riderâ and âStatesboro Bluesâ receive Greggâs solo bandâs interpretations, re-arranged and orchestrated featuring his bandâs own musicality and its horn section to reflect an R&B groove.
âThey really make things swingâ, as Allman joyfully relates about his bandâs virtuosity, and his ABB songs âhave a sway to them now, and I enjoy that.â
Allman is also proud to be highlighted as a very special guest of Lynyrd Skynyrd, performing âTuesdayâs Goneâ on their new double live CD/DVD, Lynyrd Skynyrd â One More For The Fans, coming out July 24, 2015, which was also filmed and recorded at Atlantaâs Fox Theater.
Allman is currently enjoying his 2015 U.S. and European solo tour which includes July 26âs Ramblinâ Man Fair in Maidstone, U.K., July 31âs Gathering Of The Vibes in Bridgeport, CT, August 13âs Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA, September 20âs Blues and Brews Festival in Telluride, CO, and culminating on January 21, 2016 with The Rock Legends Cruise IV departing Fort Lauderdale.
Gregg also has plans to record more solo albums, which will showcase his own songwriting, with the possibility of collaborating again with Don Was who served as Musical Director and bassist for âAll My Friendsâ and also with T-Bone Burnett again, who produced Allmanâs 2011 critically acclaimed blues album, Low Country Blues.
For Gregg Allman, the road does indeed go on forever, and he exuberantly wouldnât have it any other way, looking forward to writing, recording, and performing his dazzling and sublime soundscapes, continuously into the future.  Just like the elder statesmen rock and blues artists and friends that Allman has spent much of his life collaborating with from B.B. King and Eric Clapton, to Buddy Guy and John Lee Hooker.
Gregg Allman, the legendary blues brother and âMidnight Riderâ graciously took time during his many 2015 summer show dates to fondly discuss his solo career, tour, and upcoming CD/DVD releases.

Arlene R. Weiss: Hi Gregg, how are you? Congratulations on your solo bandâs 2015 tour, and on the August 7, 2015 release of your new live CD/DVD, âGregg Allman Live: Back To Macon, GAâ recorded and filmed live at Maconâs Grand Opera House. What resonated about this particular performance and music venue for you, that made you want to release this show? What are some of the fond, creative highlight musical moments of that night that are captured in the release?
Gregg Allman: First off, let me say how proud I am of this album. We found a groove early that night, and it took off from there. We smoked it, boy! I listened to it a few weeks afterwards, and it passed the test with flying colors.
Macon is a place that holds many, many special memories for me, and I always look forward to playing there. The Opera House is a wonderful venue. The sound is incredible, man. Highlights? Everything we played was a highlight!  Â
Arlene:Â Now that The Allman Brothers Band have retired, you can now concentrate and channel all of your artistic energy, time, and songwriting towards your solo career. In what ways does being able to now focus all of your creativity towards your solo career and music, inspire and affect your live performances with your solo band, your future plans to record your solo material, and especially your songwriting?
Gregg Allman: Well, Iâve had a solo career since 1973, so that hasnât changed at all. The only thing that is different is that I donât have to bounce back and forth between bands anymore.
I couldnât be happier about how the Allman Brothers wrapped it up. We went out on top, man, and weâre all proud of that.   Forty five years is a long, long time for any band to be together and play as well as we did. As for my solo band, things are great. There is only one cook in the kitchen, if you know what I mean, so there is no drama at all. Weâve developed real chemistry and Iâm really enjoying what Iâm doing now.
Gregg Almann â photo credit:Â sidneysmithphotos.com
Arlene: As a songwriter, over the years, how did you decide which of your songs you wanted to record and perform with The Allman Brothers Band, and which ones you wanted to record and perform as a solo artist? Was it a matter of your own choice, circumstance as in the ABB rejecting some of your songs, or some of both?  Are there any songs of yours that the ABB didnât do, that found a special place in your heart and in your solo career?  Which of your songs are you proudest of and why?
Gregg Allman: A little bit of both, actually. You see, my solo career was launched by rejection. We were working on Brothers and Sisters, and I brought in âQueen of Hearts,â a song I had been slaving over.
I thought it was pretty good, but I couldnât get anyone to pay attention to it. Finally, I pressed the issue a bit, and I was flat-out told the song didnât say anything. Boy, that was all it took.  I headed right into the studio and I started working on what would become âLaid Backâ, my first solo album.
That rejection turned out to be the best thing that could have happened, and that is why âQueen of Heartsâ is so important to me. As for other tunes, Iâd say âMidnight Riderâ is the song Iâm proudest of in my career, and âMelissaâ is special because it was the first song I wrote and kept, and it was my brotherâs favorite.
Arlene: Your wonderful All My Friends CD/DVD which was filmed and recorded January 10, 2014 at Atlantaâs Fox Theater, and released last year featured some stellar artists in a tribute concert honoring you. You also were a very special guest of Lynyrd Skynyrd last November, also at Atlantaâs Fox Theater where you performed âTuesdayâs Goneâ for their upcoming Lynyrd Skynyrd â One More For The Fans double CD/DVD coming out July 24, 2015. How did you become involved with these two projects and what were your emotions and creative experiences having so many of your peers tip their hat in praise to you and jamming with you?
Gregg Allman: I got involved with both of those projects through Michael Lehman, my manager. All My Friends was a true highlight of my latter years, no doubt. There was so much talent up on that stage it was unbelievable, man.
People were there from all stages of my career, and it is something Iâll never forget. The Skynyrd thing was very cool, as well. The original band was a special bunch, and they really loved and respected my brother.
The Brothers toured with the current Skynyrd line-up several times over the past ten years or so, and both bands had a lot of fun together, so I was honored to be part of the Skynyrd tribute. âTuesdayâs Goneâ is a great tune, man, and it was the perfect song for me to sing. And with both shows being at the fabulous Fox, who could ask for more?
Gregg Allman â photo credit:Â sidneysmithphotos.com
Arlene: I watched a clip of you performing my favorite solo song of yours, âIâm No Angelâ from your live CD/DVD. Youâre in wonderfully vibrant and stellar form and your vocals are just supreme. Do you practice or do warm up exercises to maintain your legendary, soulful singing voice?
Gregg Allman: As Iâve gotten older, Iâve learned to take care of my voice. Â I put my vocal chords through a lot of abuse when I was younger.
Best thing I ever did was quit smoking. Man, smoking will just destroy your voice. I tell anyone who is a singer to never smoke, and if they do, to quit right now. I gargle in the shower with hot water every day, but nothing helps your voice more than a good nightâs sleep. A long, deep sleep does wonders for your throat.
Click here to view the embedded video.
Arlene: Your solo band performs a blend of both Allman Brothers Band songs and songs from your solo catalogue. How do you arrange and orchestrate your ABB songs differently to reflect the different musicality of your solo band?
Gregg Allman: The biggest difference is that I have a horn section with my band, and they really make things swing. Itâs more of an R&B groove, so Iâve re-arranged some of my Allman Brothers songs to better fit that sound. Songs like âStatesboro Blues,â âDonât Keep Me Wonderinââ and âWhipping Postâ have a sway to them now, and I enjoy that.
Arlene: What are your future creative plans and projects?
Gregg Allman: I would like to do an album made up of solely my compositions, which Iâve been thinking about for some time now. The most important thing is that I plan on playing music for a long, long time. Â I canât stop now, man.

*****Welcome to sexual assault awareness month.. Be vigilant and help your fellow man or woman!
*****Lady Gaga will replace Beyonce at Coachella
*****Will they ever air the Gary Cole episode of Law and Order SVU?
*****Things are heating up in the impeachment trial of Alabamaâs Gov. Robert Bentley. His lawyer claims he was denied due process. The other side says that this is just delay.
*****Does ABC have a hacking problem? I canât even remember how many times certain people start to talk on different programs and boom.. cuts ou, jammed or temporarily interrupted with something out of left field. Is it local.. Does this happen to everyone?
*****Madonna is adopting 4 year old twins.
*****Ten percent of the bidders for the border wall are Hispanic.
*****The second to last season of The Americans is rockinâ!!
*****âWe know heâs crazy, we have to start protecting ourselves.â This is just one of the lines from Dave Letterman in a New York magazine interview that centered mostly on Trump. He has no qualms about calling things out. âHow is a white supremacist the chief advisor to our President?â âIf we get a President sometime soon who does not have a mental disorder, twitter will be useful.â You must look it up, it is worth a read!
*****Rihanna received Harvardâs Humanitarian award.
*****Roger Stone, big supporter and surrogate for Trump tried to discredit the FBI over the Iraq war. Charlie Rose had to set him straight and tell him it was a CIA report that had revealed the possible weapons of mass destruction. The man, who has a Nixon tattoo that spans his shoulders, is also under investigation for collusion with the Russians.
*****The White house is talking about creating propaganda to whip up the anti- immigrant hysteria even more: VOICE: Victims of immigration crime engagement. Some call this racist and how genocide begins.
*****Dancing with the stars is back with Charo, Mr.T, Nancy Carrigan, Simone Biles and Chris Kattan.
*****Radio shows have come full circle to become podcasts. The more things change, the more they stay the same. We still seem to like to just listen to people talk. Check out Karina Longworth with You Must Remember This. With Feud (next up for Feud: Charles and Di) going strong on FX, it is a good time to listen to her Bette/Joan episode. With Manson in the news again, there is a 12 part episode on his part in Hollywood.
*****Ann- Margret is back with Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin in Going in Style.
*****Baskets has been given the greenlight for season 3!
*****Louis CK and Albert Brooks are bringing the animated The Cops to TBS.
*****Shemar Moore will be making an appearance on the season finale of Criminal Minds. His character will be bringing the team some info about âScratch.â Shemar recently told ET that he wanted Morgan to call Penelope âSugar titsâ instead of âbaby girlâ , but the writers wouldnât go for that. He is also filming a CBS pilot reboot of S.W.A.T. The Criminal Minds finale airs on May 10.
*****Should we have to put up with Jeff Sessions and his lies about the Russian ambassador? We have direct evidence of deception. Comey made it official that the Trump camp is under investigation for possible collusion with the Russian involvement with the campaign. Funny that he always shot his mouth off about Hillary but was mum on this. The Republicans questioned Comey mostly about the leaks which is important but also a great distraction. Â The FBI reveals that Russia did not even try to hide their tracks. It is possible they were just gathering and then when they dumped the info they went through an intermediary. **Sean Spicer claims that Paul Manafort, (who seems to have many ties to Russia and who ran the campaign for a time and ran the RNC) had a very limited role with the campaign. Â The bugging of Trump tower was laid to rest but just not by scary clown and co. They seem to believe that GCHQ, British intelligence was involved as well. Why donât the Republican Senators get some fucking balls and quit defending this freak? Letâs hone in on this Russian connection and get this freak out of there.**Ivanka is getting an office and top clearance? Is this an Edith Wilson situation? Does the family have to keep an eye on him? Is it time to face the sad fact that he may have dementia or a mental disorder? BTW Wendy Williams mentioned that she would rather be Tiffany than Ivanka because of all the responsibility and the whole wife and daughter thing going on. Tiffany gets to be out there living it up. Â Love that!**Pence is no prize either, he is always behind Trump looking like a bobble head doll. Be aware if we end up with him!
*****Hillary B. Smith is on General Hospital for a stint. Oh how I missed ya, Nora!!
*****Everyone is giving backlash about cutting funding for PBS and meals on wheels. Mick Mulvaney, director of the office of management and budget tells us it is only a 3% cut but I am guessing we will now have 3% more hungry people. He explains that a lot of people do not want their tax dollars to fund the National endowment for the arts. I do not want mine to add millions to the military budget or Mar a Lago trips or Melaniaâs NY shutdown (the gossip is that Trump and the first lady are basically separated). They donât seem to give a fuck about that.**It is so great that the âTrump health care planâ fell apart but Pelosi and Hoyer et al. need to stop crowing and keep fighting against the rest of the crap the majority is trying to get by with and fix the things that need fine tuning on the ACA.
***** Does anybody else find Feud and The Americanâs Alison Wright absolutely irresistible?? She is so fabulous!!
*****It looks like Sears and Kmart may be in the verge of going out of business.
*****Jared Kushnerâs role just gets bigger and bigger. He has been appointed to reconfigure the government and deal with the border wall and negotiate peace in the Middle East. One guy? OK!
***** CBS Sunday morning informed us about the wonders of Denmark. They do have the highest cancer rates and taxes but they have the highest wages and lowest poverty rates too. They live by the word Hygge which means live simply.
*****The White House did not even send an official rep to This Week, they just sent some old buddy of Trumps. Will they start to run out of new faces to defend them? ** Bret Stephens at the Wall Street Journal wrote, âThe president clings to his assertions like a drunk to an empty gin bottle.â And Bill Moyers wrote,â Thereâs a smell of treason in the air.â Samantha Bee likens Trumps military spending to an insecure guy who tries to make his penis look bigger. Bill Maher wonders if constitutionalist Judge Gorsuch will wonder âWhat would the slaveholders do?â Michael Moore wrote, âHistorians in the near future will mark today,3-28-17, as the day the extinction of human life on earth began, thanks 2 Donald Trump.â** Donald Trump Jr. criticized the London Mayor after the attacks.
*****And just as Scary clown 45 signed the repeal to wipe out Obamaâs climate change record, An inconvenient truth sequel Truth to Power is coming out.
*****The Rolling Stones are nominated for best blues act and best blues album in the Jazz FM awards.
*****There is no clean coal!
*****The Daytime Emmyâs were announced. The Talk and Ellen lead the pack with 8 nominations. There are 5 for the View and the announcement fucked up their names. Iâll be routing for CBS Sunday morning and CBS this morning. I canât believe that The Pioneer woman was not nominated for outstanding culinary program. I guess I will route for Trishaâs Southern Kitchen. Days of our Lives was nominated for show, directing and writing. There was best actor noms for Billy Flynn (Chad) and Vincent Irizarry (Deimos). Kate Mansi (the old Abigail) was nominated for best supporting actress and John Aniston (Victor) for supporting actor. Go Days!!!
*****The small Illinois town of West Frankfurt stood up for Carlos Hernandez. Hernandez was picked up when the immigrant ban enforcers were looking for someone else. The town vouched for him and called this out as unfair.
*****The FDA has approved food to protect food. Edipeel is a spray made out of food that can put a thin shield on fruit and protect it 5 times longer than normal. It is edible and tasteless. It will be invaluable in places with no refrigeration and help with waste.
*****Patrick Stewart is applying for American citizenship to help with the fight we are having in here at home. Agitate..Agitate..Agitate.
*****Looks like NBC has given the greenlight to an Ellen DeGeneres game show.
*****Tom Hanks sent the White house press corps an espresso machine with a note that read: âKeep up the good fight for truth, justice and the American way. Especially for the truth part.â This is a tradition he started with the Bush administration.
*****Get ready for a Big band theory spinoff.
*****Steve Martin will teach an online comedy course. The cost is $90 on Masterclass. Others who have taught are Christina Aguilera, Kevin Spacey, James Patterson, Dustin Hoffman, Werner Herzog and Aaron Sorkin. They will soon be joined by Shonda Rhimes and Hans Zimmer.
***** Caterpillar was raided by the Feds which included the IRS, CID, Inspector General and export enforcement. Word is they may be indicted for tax evasion. This could be from a 2009 lawsuit alleging the company shifted profits overseas and to offshore shell companies to avoid paying more than 2 billion in taxes.
*****Hall and Oates and Tears for Fears are set to tour.
*****This time itâs real. You see warnings on the internet all the time about your privacy rights but this time look out! The Senate has voted to repeal a set of rules aimed at protecting online data. Once again the big companies win under this administration. This could let internet providers share info. New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. states âAt a time when our personal data is more vulnerable than ever, itâs baffling that senate republicans would eliminate the few privacy protections Americans have today.â The word is that millions are pouring in for their votes. Ted Cruz reportedly got 2 mil. We will be paying the big cable giants to sell our info to the highest bidder and this could keep the FCC from ever again establishing similar consumer privacy protections. And this from a man who wants privacy with his taxes. Some of the wealthy are claiming they will buy all the info of those that voted to sold us down the river and release it to the public.
*****Robert Redford has me excited about 2 films. The first is out now about the afterlife called The Discovery. It also stars Riley Keough, Mary Steenburgen, Jason Segel and Rooney Mara. The other has distribution rights just coming together. The Old man and the gun is the true story of a thief with Sissy Spacek, Danny Glover and Casey Affleck.
*****A tribute to the music of Merle Haggard will be held in Nashville with Keith Richards, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Loretta Lynn, The Avett Brothers, Alison Krauss and Billy Gibbons.
*****Microfiber is causing great problems with water pollution. I knew I hated fleece.
*****There has been an official request for scary clownâs tax returns.
*****âThese are not good times.â âJohn McCain. McCain is also very worried that North Koreaâs leader is not rational and needs to be handled. It is kind of frightening when our own leader is not rational.
*****Look for the live album Charlie Watts meets Danish Radio Big Band. The music which includes Stones covers was recorded in 2010 and will drop on April 21.
*****As soon as the ACA was saved, the blame game started! Scary clown and his cohorts blamed Washington for cancelling the health care vote stating that âItâs a lot more rotten than we thought.â Trump said âIâm glad itâs behind meâ and then tweeted blame to the republicans and the democrats and the very conservative republicans and it just goes on. He invited us to watch his beloved friend Judge Jeanine who minced no words in that Paul Ryan needs to step down. He is adamant that he does not blame Ryan. Ok. Jeanine scolded that we all knew a businessman would not know how to legislate but he made it clear during the election that he knew more than anybody. Is the world  laughing at our âart of the dealâ  tough New Yorker president who was suckered by the Wisconsin dude. Trump is like the armchair quarterback who is finally thrown into the game and does not have a clue. **Bannon bullied and threatened the night before the âvoteâ, telling the house members that they had no choice but it seemed to work against him and wouldnât that be the Presidentâs job? ** The topper was Colbert using the schoolhouse rock song, âIâm just a billâ which ended with the bill blowing his brains out.
*****Some high school kids came up with We Dine Together for the new or loner kids to make some new friends. Look it up and help to open chapters locally!!
*****Zac Brown is coming out with new music.
*****Trump has now rescinded the order Obama signed requiring firms that do business with the federal government prove compliance with federal laws and executive orders. This makes Trump look like heâs doing the right thing by leaving one of Obamaâs executive orders in place that prohibits the federal government from contracting with firms that discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity. People from the LGBT community would have to take steps to enforce it now.** College basketball in North Carolina sort of forced the repeal of the bathroom law but they leave a regulation of bathroom access solely to the control of the legislature. It prevents local government from passing or amending their own non -discrimination ordinances pertaining to private employment.
*****There is a growing number of the French who want President Obama to run for President of France. It is possible if he were so inclined. One only has to be a resident, not a natural born citizen to run for President in Great Britain, Israel, Germany, France, Canada and France.
*****The Mount Kushmore Wellness retreat tour is coming to 16 cities with Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Cypress Hill, Method Man and Redman.
*****Are all the Russians visiting Trump and his cohorts buying their vodka at Costco?
*****Apparently Beau Bidenâs widow is dating his brother Hunter Biden.
*****This yearâs Seattle Hemp fest runs August 18-20.
*****Who knew that Bryan Cranston dubbed a lot of the monster voices from Japanese to English for the original Power Rangers.
*****Dimitri Rybolovlev, a Russian fertilizer businessman bought a Trump home in Florida for twice what it was worth. This was the most expensive home sale in U.S. history. Â He and the Presidents planes cross paths all the time though there have been many denials of this. A Russian ambassador was sitting in the front row of Trumps first press conference as President. Reports say that Scary clown went ballistic in the oval office when he discovered that Sessions recused himself. He left for Florida without his senior staff.** Now there is an inquiry about his business with an Iranian family known as the Corleoniâs of the Caspian.

*****SNLâs Weekend Update is going prime time. They are also going live in all time zones on April 15th.
*****Mischa Barton has filed a lawsuit over a sex tape that was filmed without her consent.
*****A tweet from Mcdonaldâs had some pretty bad things to say about our President. The tweet was taken down in 20 minutes and they claim they were compromised.
*****Days alert: Did we see Nicole on the run with that poor baby? She is more street smart than to be taken advantage of by a street hustler at the little hotel. Câmon! I hate it when characters I like leave and the way they write them off seems more exciting than when they were there. Like, I want to see Teresaâs character on her secret adventure right now. I am sick of Chad thinking about Gabby moments from his past, enough! And then bam!!, Â Deimos hits him where it hurts. Since Roman has retired, are they putting him in charge of the Brady Pub? I think that is perfect, he wants to take it a little easier and everybodyâs favorite meeting place in Salem needs the next generation to take over.** Everyone in this country was talking about health care but I think most soap characters must have great insurance. Especially lately on Days, transplants, cancer, poisoning.. the hospital has been full up.** Hooray.. Adrienne picked Lucas, itâs about fucking time!!
*****Ben Affleck is recently out of rehab.
*****It looks like they are talking about remaking âThe Flyâ.

*****Can we all vote by mail yet?? What is the problem??
*****Looks like Kyle Bush is a bit of a hot head. He went after Joey Lagano after a race.
*****The Japanese prime minister was telling us what happened in some meetings he had with the Pres. I guess we are getting official news by way of Japan now since scary clown tells us nothing of any real importance.
*****Will Scary Clown 45 bring war as a jobs program? Where are the jobs he promised? There are many empty offices in Washington right now that could be filled with employed workers. He has many jobs to give and he wonât do it and they are firing people left and right. Look at the money we spend on getting him to Mir a Lago and the delusional investigations he wants into wiretapping etc. Just think of what a poor family could do with that money. This administration is gutting the EPA and that is just the beginning. The only good news is the stock market is up. He really behaves more like a cult leader than a President. He talks only in front of the people who worship him. Iâm sure he canât believe his dumb luck that so many Americans are uninformed. He communicates in âfactsâ that only he seems to understand. He sends out his minions to spread HIS intellectual pollution back to their audience of one. Charles Manson is of ill health and perhaps is not long for this world so I guess scary clown 45 is the new evil, the deplorables are the new âfamilyâ.
*****The liberal rednecks of comedy make me wonder when those raised with hate and or narrow teachings will rebel against their parents and become liberals filled with acceptance.
*****What is all this touching on late night talk shows?
*****Climate March on March 29. Scientists March on April 22.
*****Charlie Rose is back.
*****âThe level of complete corruption from the fossil fuel industry that marks this administration is like nothing weâve ever seen.â- Environmentalist Bill Mckibben.
*****What kind of a person could actually believe that a âbillionaireâ who has tried to buy up sanctuaries to put up more towers with his name on them would help the environment? Will these same people who allowed themselves to be whipped up into a frenzy of fear and anxiety love it when Yellowstone disappears? Well, they do seem to be on board with everything else so perhaps they donât care. The pain of this election is unbearable but will some good come of it? Will he and friends who say no to everything that isnât their idea or does not help the richest of us learn anything from this? Will their eyes be open to what it really feels like when they all get on top of you? I mean are they capable of seeing what it really fucking feels like? If they hate government so much, why do they want to be a part of it? Well, of course to tip the scales in their favor.
*****Arnold Schwarzenegger has quit Celebrity Apprentice.
*****The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News and Time will not attend White House briefings if other outlets (CNN, New York Times etc.) are not allowed in. Good for them but perhaps they need to keep working behind the scenes on digging for the truth about scary clown 45 but not reporting every little thing he distracts us with. For instance the âwiretapâ stuff is proven wrong so quit talking about it and move on!** Rex Tillerson told a reporter, âI didnât want this job.â Sources say Tillerson shuffles in and out through back doors ignoring important diplomats and his minions are not allowed to look him in the eye. Tell me this is not true!
*****Sam Rodriguez Jr., who led a prayer at the Trump Inauguration is giving a safe haven to those worried about immigration raids. His New Season Christian Worship Center also gives shelter to victims of domestic violence.

*****Florida has a wheel of fugitives that spin to focus in on certain missing law breakers.
*****The new health care plan is loaded with massive tax cuts for the rich and no budget for it. The AMA and AARP do not support it. They kept a little of the good parts of Obamacare and changed wording on some things that Dems had wanted and they had previously refused. Estimates say that 60% of Trump voters will get their repeal of the ACA but it will cost them more for health care. Big drug companies get a healthy tax break and it is like a gift to insurance companies. All the Obama haters that wanted everything repealed sound a little mixed on the tax breaks for the rich. Did they not realize that the money was coming from somewhere? It is bad enough when I see people believe a story or two from the enquirer or wonder about a conspiracy theory but the things that pass for fact in the White House is delusional. The swamp is thriving just fine!
*****Lizzie Borden is coming to the big screen with Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart.
*****OMG.. The new Twin peaks has added Laura Dern, Michael Cera and Jennifer Jason Leigh!!!!
*****Way to go Ted Koppel for giving Sean Hannity a reality check. Somebody has to be the voice of reason.
*****We still donât know much about season 7 of American Horror Story. The cast gathered at the Paley center to talk about last season. It looks like it may be about the 2016 election and we know that Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are on board and that it will come back in the fall.

*****The whole âJanet Jackson has a daughterâ thing is back in the news.
*****In Cold Blood killer Dick Hickock wrote his own manuscript, with some help from Kansas City journalist Mack Nations called The High Road to Hell and it has just now surfaced. Before Hickock was executed, it seems that Truman Capote would not have wanted it published. Random House had a deal with Capote and some digging has shown that he fought against the other publication.
*****The new Avatar land, Pandora in Florida looks like Summer camp and it will open around the same time at the end of May.
*****Conan tweets have been on fire lately.

*****A study of 6,000 UK teens showed that high achieving students were 50% more likely to use Marijuana occasionally.

*****Tomi Lahren has been suspended from her show Tomi on The Blaze network. She told the ladies of The View that she is pro -choice. Glenn Beck has spoken out against her. The network tag line is âa platform for a new generation of authentic and unfiltered voices.â Hmmm.
