Propaganda for the remaining Malloy Musicals!!! Many know Great comet, but Ghost Quartet and Octet are also incredible and should progress as well! Ghost Quartet you can watch the entire thing free on YouTube because over lockdown the legend Malloy PUT IT UP HIMSELF allowing everyone to have a chance to see the abstract chaos of the show. Four people in a room doing all the charcters, all the orchestra. Perfection. Pt1
Oh I didn't know Ghost Quartet was on Youtube!

PLEASE EVERYONE WE CAN NOT!!!! KICK OFF PRIDE MONTH BY LETTING FALSETTOS LOSE A POLL :((((((((
I have learned that the week of the Semifinals has encompassed both the unofficial Falsettos Day and the first day of Pride Month, which should in theory prove to be very auspicious. We will see how that turns out in practice.

if we are doing bare propaganda, here is my favourite version of all grown up. total banger with incredible acting. I'd describe the song as more "she used to be mine, teen edition" but the previous description was quite accurate as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFJ0K_WEQSU

Hello, I've come to submit propaganda for the Best Snubbed Musical World Cup Group 12 (handy link so people can immediately vote)
Anyway, why people who don't care otherwise should vote for Soldaat van Oranje:
A non-English musical! How many of those are in the tournament?
It was set to premier in the English language in London, but for 2020 so that has been indefinitely postponed.
It has an amazing stage. The stage is circular and the seats are in the middle of the room and can move around, so that you see a different part of the stage for almost every scene!
The plot. It is about students in the Dutch resistance during WWII, based on a true story, and so it's about doing what's right instead of what's easy. Speaking up when people do things that are wrong and about how friendships might change because of this. AND THIS IS ALREADY INTRODUCED IN THE FIRST SONG, which is set at a frat house, and the main character criticises his friend for just doing what the senior students say without thinking. (Also it's a banger)
It actually has a cast recording which is kinda rare in The Netherlands sadly
It has been playing non stop since 2010 (save for Covid) and it has become a meme that every half year there are ads like: SOLDAAT VAN ORANJE IS STOPPING NOW (FOR REAL)
The songs are very good, so have a look at their first performance on the annual Dutch musical sing-a-long. (In case the link doesn't work, here's the address: https://youtu.be/mXt7K7fbmfg)
Thank you for reading and please vote for Soldaat van Oranje
Interesting Stuff!

fellow vietnamese american here 👋 just wanted to submit more anti-propaganda against miss saigon (sorry to be spreading negativity 😔) and say that omfg i kind of... despise it
i feel like it just portrays vietnamese people as ... helpless?? like the entire plot is centered around find-a-white-guy-to-bring-you-america and let's-go-to-america and it really gives off the sense that... that was it. like sure that photo of refugees lining up for the helicopter is famous. but that's not EVERYTHING. what about the people who fought to stay? or those who left by boat ?? like sure miss saigon tells a true (ish. very heavily biased fs) story but like wtf man
also i was watching the miss saigon tony performance bc eva noblezada and in the middle??? when they like. straight up cast ho chi minh's face onto the wall and have people run around w the flags like that??? 😀 the house was dead silent
While I try to use my blog and these tournaments primarily to spread positivity about shows rather than negativity, Miss Saigon is fully exempt from that principle!
I agree with all of your points, and you articulated a lot of the problems with the show much better than I could have!
The poll is here so you can vote for anything that is not Miss Saigon.

i love assassins and great comet as much as the next guy (really, i do! im insane about them!). but i think you're a good man, charlie brown CANNOT lose. its just full of fun and love. "happiness", the closing number, is about finding joy in the simple things in life (happiness is anyone and anything at all thats loved by you). the end of the show is lucy saying "youre a good man, charlie brown"!!!!! i also survived the Charlie Brown Incident when my school put it on. charlie brown and i are in it for life. (the Charlie Brown Incident was a small flu epidemic in my schools theatre department. we lost half the cast and crew. someone had to learn snoopys lines an hour before show. we only had 4 people in the booth. another person had to learn sound the day before. there was barely an ensemble. people who just came to see the show even got the flu. it was BAD.)
You're fighting a real uphill battle here!
You're A Good Man Charlie Brown is in Group 14.

Propaganda for bandstand, Amelie, and seven brides for seven brothers. Bandstand is jazzy musical about the realities of war talking about the serious grief and PTSD the veterans and their loved ones suffer from and a tinge of capitalism. If you're a military brat you may find the experiences relatable. Amelie just has good music. If you thought the movie was boring the musical definitely keeps you entertained. And seven brides for seven brothers is just a sweet vintage musical that's very charming in it's premise and story.
Never listened to any of these yet! Seems interesting.

listen i love bonnie and clyde i really do. the music is fantastic and jeremy jordan enough said. HOWEVER. bonnie and clyde does not have so much of four: four acts four actors four stories/timelines four ways rose red killed her sister. and also i’m fairly certain bonnie and clyde does not have someone stealing herself from herself to baptize in secret so she can give the Four Things to the bear so the bear will maul the astronomer and turn her sister into a crow etc etc. and also gelsey bell making inhuman noises for about 1 minute
Ghost Quartet is the musical being advocated in this propaganda. The relevant poll is here.

Okay, here’s the Assassins propaganda. It is hard to think of a show more controversial than a dark comedy written about American assassins. It is a brilliant commentary on the American Dream, both the hope it offers and the seeming futility of it, as well as if/when political violence is ever justified. Every song is an absolute bop, but the entire ending is one of the most chilling ones I’ve ever seen, and I won’t spoil it but if you know what I’m talking about… yeah. It’s both hilarious and terrifying, and especially prescient when looking at America today. Also, it mocks the absolute shit out of John Wilkes Booth, which will always be hilarious.
I know Assassins is a bit niche and unlikely to win, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t get through to at least the next round. The Lightning Thief is great; I’ve been a Percy Jackson fan since I was capable of reading books. But Assassins is one of the best works of THE best composer in musical theatre history. There’s no comparison. My favorite version is the 2021 revival starting Ethan Slater (yes, SpongeBob), and I’d recommend giving it a listen if you haven’t already. It’s worth it.
And one final thing, for the ones who know: in Buffalo… IN BUFFALOOOOOOO
The relevant poll is here for interested voters.

A little bit of propaganda for Drowsy Chaperone? It's just a declaration of love to musicals in general. Man in Chair is so many of us, trying to explain all the reasons we love musicals to people who perhaps don't understand or don't love them as much as we do. He says it best, "I know it's not a perfect show... But it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to a different world and gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue."
That's a good line!

hey if we're allowed to do anti propaganda id love to complain about spies are forever
the number "we love the prince" is built around making fun of a man with a mental disability. like, to the point that i was uncomfortable watching it. i would be willing to accept the song itself as exaggerated gossip, but the portrayal of the prince himself is downright insulting
i see a lot of people praising the gay representation and i dont know if ive seen anyone comment on this bit before
its the first half of act 2 part 1 on youtube if you want to see it but like. content warning
While I believe that number was decidedly not meant to portray the prince as having a mental disability as per official word of the creator, I will admit the onstage portrayal definitely comes off quite poorly, even as someone who otherwise enjoys Spies are Forever.

I approach bearing more Bare: a Pop Opera propaganda! "Portrait of a Girl" is the conflict of the human condition in a human society rooted in the objectification of girlhood.
Interesting!

i love death note the musical as much as the next guy. but this is my lizzie propaganda: VAGUELY HISTORICAL LESBIAN ROCK MUSICAL. its based on the lizzie borden murders and portrays every interpretation pretty much. also theres lesbian!! and sex!! and brutal axe murder!! and moral dilemmas! and the soundtrack goes sooooo hard theres not a bad song (though if youre thinking of listening to it: tw for implied sa for "this is not love" and "soul of the white bird")
Interesting stuff!
For interested voters, Lizzie is in Group 10.
