Shirako (Japan)
We have absolutely left the most un-engaging until last. This dish from Japan resembles a decent, smooth sauce, and it is by and large eaten throughout the cold weather months. In any case, its appearance may misrepresent what this is really produced using (that being cod milt); and cod milt is basically an extravagant term for fish sperm, indeed, you heard right! Adelaide is an exciting ‘must visit’ cosmopolitan city.
Escape to Adelaide and enjoy Australia’s cosmopolitan city.
The city of Adelaide has become an exciting must-see location with a reputation as a fun, arty, foodie city. Discover the festival city with its trendy lane-way cafes and restaurants and chic rooftop bars. Relax and enjoy the world-class performers and the vibrant music scene whilst in this beautiful city.
With just over a million people this small city has a great ‘atmosphere’.
Adelaide is surprisingly easy to get around with an efficient public transport system utilising Trams, Trains and Bus. Catch a tram to Glenelg from the city to discover some of South Australia’s most beautiful beaches and a short drive into the hills will put you in the midst of beautiful countryside.
The nearby vineyards and locally produced foods make this city one of the best food and wine capital cities in Australia. It is definitely a food-lover’s heaven!
There is so much to do in Adelaide that I decided to put together a ‘to do’ guide to make life a little easier.
Things to do in Adelaide
Fabulous Restaurants, Old Pubs and Trendy new Bars
Adelaide has always been known for its restaurant and trendy cafes but what we’re loving is the new energy that’s being seen in the revamped old pubs.
A number of Adelaide’s charming old pubs have been given a new lease of life with contemporary styled renovations and are setting new trends when it comes to pub food. A recent visit took us to the Gilbert Street Hotel which served up one of the best ‘carbonara pasta’ dishes ever!
New bars and eateries are also being discovered in Adelaide’s laneways and side streets so it was great to try out a few of these new foodie haunts on a recent visit. Local craft beers and breweries are also becoming very popular giving visitors additional choice.
We love the fabulous street art nearby which gives these laneways an eclectic and funky atmosphere and a new lease of life to forgotten parts of the city.
Adelaide festivals are world famous
Known as one of the best festival cities in the world, Adelaide knows how to ‘put on a show’! The best time to visit Adelaide is throughout February and March when the festivals are in full swing.
The Adelaide Festival has been a popular event for over 50 years with internationally acclaimed theatre, music, dance and visual arts.
WOMADelaide takes over the Botanical Gardens for 4 days of fabulous music, art and dance celebrations. WOMADelaide has an eco focus and hosts the popular Planet Talks with environmental discussions, Taste the World food and cooking demonstrations.
Adelaide Fringe Festival features everything from cabaret to comedy and circus. Over 900 festival events are staged in pop-up venues in laneways, warehouses and parks, as well as established theatres, hotels and galleries.
Museums, Galleries, Botanical Gardens and don’t forget the Zoo
Adelaide was one of the earliest settled cities in Australia and has a number of beautiful old buildings. Located on North Terrace, the Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australian Museum are two very stately old buildings housing significant collections of art and Australian cultural artifacts.
Visit Adelaide’s Royal Botanical Gardens where you can wander among thousands of species of roses, and see three impressive glasshouses including the exquisite 1877-built Palm House.
Adelaide has a great zoo which is perfect for people of all ages. Don’t miss the Adelaide Zoo. Home to many native Australian birds and wildlife including koalas, Australia sea lions and kangaroos as well as lions, giraffes, monkeys and panda bears.
Adelaide’s Architecture and Heritage Tours
Adelaide treasures its city’s unique heritage and is has a number of guided tours and self-guided walking trails to showcase the city’s grand old buildings and history. They’re filled with interesting stories, tales of earlier times and flavoured with a scandal or two. A great way to get some insight to how things were in early Adelaide days.
The National Trust offers a number of Guided Tours which include:
Ayers House (after dark)
City of Churches
Politics, Power and and Law
Old Adelaide Treasury Tours.
or take one of the Self-Guided Heritage Walking Trails:
Crime and Mayhem
Adelaide Vintage Pubs
Faith in the City
Survivors from early Adelaide
Houses Great and Small
High on the Hill
Exploring Education
The Adelaide Arcade is one of the city’s architectural and shopping gems. Built in 1885, it is one of the most well preserved examples of Victorian elegance and home to more than 100 speciality retail outlets. This arcade is home to a museum and one of South Australia’s famous chocolatiers, Haigh’s Chocolate.
Don’t miss the shopping
Rundle Street mall is a great city malls explore. I love seeing the ‘pop-up’ flower markets, funky little coffee stands, clever sculptures and street-musicians. They really do give this mall its friendly atmosphere.
Walking along the mall you will find Department stores, fashion designers and boutiques with arcades and laneways laden with gift shops and coffee shops and cafes. Don’t forget about the food-halls sub-ground level which have an abundance of takeaways or eat-in restaurants and cafes.
One of the last remaining Australian chocolatiers Haigh’s Chocolates can be found in the mall so make sure you sample their specialities.
Adelaide’s Rundle Mall sculptures are some of the best I’ve seen. The piglet family are my favourites! These four pigs won the Rundle Mall National Sculpture competition in 1997.
The popular pigs have been named Oliver (standing) Horatio (sitting) Truffles (sniffing the ground) and Augusta (sniffing the rubbish bin).
A trip to Adelaide Central Markets is a ‘must do’
This fabulous undercover market has been Adelaide’s food epicentre since 1869. Farm-fresh fruit, vegetables, cured and smoked meats, seafood and an exceptional range of cheeses!
Delicious selections of freshly baked pastries, fresh cheeses, freshly harvested honey, flavoured oils and other delicious pantry items.
Take one of the Central Markets Walking Tours to experience the markets at their best, enjoy the tastings and meet the marketers.
Relax at the beach
The beaches are an easy distance from the Adelaide city. Just a 25 minute tram ride from the centre of Adelaide, gets you right onto the beachfront at Glenelg.
A bustling seaside town with heritage hotels, alfresco cafés and a beautiful white sandy beach and one of my favourite beaches to visit.
If you want to be swept back 40 years, visit Semaphore. Just south of Adelaide, Semaphore is the most unique retro beach experience, where you can wander along the esplanade, enjoy fresh fish and chips on the beachfront and swim in sheltered waters.
Remember those old carousels with handcrafted wooden horses? Well, Semaphore has one!
Experience the Barossa Valley
Whenever visiting Adelaide I always spend a day or two visiting the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s best wine regions. It’s a remarkable place to visit with so much to see.
Quaint little townships like Tanunda and Hahndorf are famous for their European-style atmosphere, beautiful stone buildings and handcrafted gifts, preserves and award-winning wines.
Visit famous wineries such as Kellermeister, Rockford Wines, Murray Street Vineyards and Penfold Estates. Stop at Maggie Beer’s farm to pick up a picnic hamper and enjoy lunch as you take in the scenic views of the Barossa, or enjoy something exotic at one of the boutique wineries.
Are you looking for a great wine that won’t break the bank? Check out our Wine Guide.
The Barossa Valley does some wine and food cycling trails which offer a relaxed way to tour the region and sample the wares. I think that will be my next adventure!
Adelaide is that perfect escape! It has something for everyone and the climate is always so – mediterranean!
Have you been to Adelaide? What did you think of the Rundle Mall piglets? What did you enjoy most on your visit? We’d love to hear about your adventure .. Drop us a note in the comments below.
Escape to Adelaide – Australia’s cosmopolitan city Adelaide is an exciting 'must visit' cosmopolitan city. Escape to Adelaide and enjoy Australia's cosmopolitan city.

Side Dishes That Goes Well With Seafood
What feast is complete without aside? An incredible side dish supplements the kinds of the mainen trée while boosting the dietary benefit of your feast. In case you're accustomed to making entrees with heavier meats like hamburger, pork or even chicken, you may feel at a misfortune when you consider setting up a side with fish. A piece of what separates fish from different meats is that it is lighter. It matches best with sides that are filling without being substantial. It generally works out in a good way for citrus flavors.
Potatoes
Potatoes consistently make an extraordinary side dish regardless of how you set them up—roasted, fried, or mashed. Notwithstanding how you make them, they taste brilliant with white fish like cod or tilapia. Lemon mashed potatoes and rosemary roasted potatoes are two of our number one potato side dishes with white fish. Go to the Seafood restaurant in Adelaide for the best seafood experience.
Vegetables
Flakier fish like fluke; tilapia and struggle cook best on the barbecue or in the stove when they are enveloped by foil. Blending these fish with grilled or steam vegetables are a good thought. You can throw vegetables like chime peppers, carrots and zucchini with a little oil and a light flavoring blend. Then skewer them and spot them on the grill or, skip the skewers, enclose them by their own foil bundle and spot them on the grill or broiler rack for a solid and heavenly side. Taste fresh seafood in the Best seafood restaurant in Adelaide.
Pasta
Pasta combines well with each sort of fish from shellfish like lobsters and shrimp to finfish like tilapia and salmon. Lobster Macintosh 'n cheddar are an exemplary side dish. Pasta threw with a light velvety or lemony sauce is similarly tasty with any fish you like. Best seafood platter in Adelaide with one of the best side dish.
Greek Salad
At the point when you're searching for a light and straightforward side dish brimming with fiber, you can't turn out badly with a plate of mixed greens. The pleasantness of fish like salmon works out in a good way for the harshness of large verdant vegetables like kale or romaine. Darkened tilapia and other seasoned fish work out in a good way for corn and bean servings of mixed greens. Experience best seafood Glenelg!
Zucchini Noodles
For those keeping away from carbs, zucchini noodles are a delightful and nutritious other option. My #1 formula for zoodles incorporates chickpeas, pesto, and white cheddar and it is totally overwhelming. The unpretentious flavors would go extraordinary with a more tasty shrimp formula, like an Asian-propelled lemon ginger dressing! Also, any plate will look mystically scrumptious with your vivid zoodles topping it off. From grilled veggies to tropical flavors and surprisingly solid, low-fat and without carb dishes, this rundown has something for everybody! Try the fresh seafood Glenelg with the best side dish!

Periodically, we're adequately fortunate to discover some King George whiting, viewed by numerous individuals as a competitor for the title of Australia's best eating fish. I would unquestionably place it in my top about six. It has a gleaming body, which is shadowy yellow over the belly line, and sporadic, slanted lines of little bronze or earthy colored spots on the back and upper sides. It is the biggest and generally pursued of all species of whiting. Its substance is radiant pearly white with a tight, fine-chipped surface and a sensitive, inconspicuous flavor.
With regards to cooking, King George Whiting is best arranged just. An excessive number of flavors can overpower. Sand whiting, however maybe not as valued, is by and by a fine eating fish. Japanese chefs favor it to King George for sashimi on the grounds that it has more flavors. Its more forward taste fits hearty backups. In Marseilles, French cooks set it up softly floured, at that point sautéed in olive oil and presented with a red wine sauce. Pan-searing in margarine or extra virgin olive oil is suggested for all whiting fillets and care ought to be taken when grilling or simmering that the tissue doesn't overcook and dry out.
Likewise with all fish, freshness is pivotal. At whatever point conceivable, pick whole whiting and really at that time ask your fishmonger to scale and filet them. This way you can recognize fish with clear full eyes, shiny scales and radiant red gills (if ungutted). Sand whiting can be utilized as an overall fish and can take heartier backups, even a red wine sauce. The sensitive King George whiting ought to be joined by more inconspicuous flavors and served basically.
King George is exceptionally respected for its sweet and fragile tissue that can withstand different cooking procedures like barbecuing, steaming or boiling; however it can likewise be utilized raw in different sashimi dishes. When fried, larger assortments are basically utilized in the structure of fillets, while more modest can be seared entirety. Taste the best seafood Glenelg.

Difference Between The Taste Of Squid & Octopus Dishes
Both squids and octopuses offer fundamentally the same as nutritional value, however octopuses are known to offer more minerals and vitamins than squids. You may have heard or perused that the two sorts of meat are disgusting and too extreme to even think about chewing, yet that is not actually evident. In the event that all around cooked (remember that the two of them can be eaten raw), the meat of both isn't as chewy as it sounds, and that carries us to the following point.
What does squid taste like?
Squid meat is unquestionably one of the trickiest types of meat there is to cook. Above all else, you can eat squids raw: you can eat baby squids (raw or cooked) or the roe, and afterward you can eat adult squids cooked. The taste of squid is a mild flavor that is fairly suggestive of shellfish for certain individuals. Have a taste of it in the Best seafood restaurant in Glenelg.
The meat is normally chewy, but less that your teeth can't deal with it- it is eaten raw in numerous societies, for example, in Asian cuisine. Nonetheless, in the event that you can't deal with this level of chewiness, at that point you ought to have your meat cooked. Squid meat is not actually fishy so, don't expect the fishy lingering flavor. The meat likewise doesn't taste as strange as you would have heard.
What is really unusual is you eating something you likely never envisioned you'd try one day. The taste of the squid meat relies upon the age of the squid. More established squids have a tougher flesh and are in this way chewier, not at all like youthful squids which can be juicy and tender, only if they are cooked.
What does octopus taste like?
Octopus meat is chewy but it has a great taste. It doesn't taste fishy and it very well may be utilized in an assortment of dishes, including octopus salad, seafood cocktails, sushi and sashimi, and soups like Tuscan soup, which is made utilizing young octopus. The Japanese takoyaki snack recipe includes battering and molding the octopus into a ball, then frying and embellishing it prior to serving. Have a taste of it in the Best seafood restaurant in Adelaide.
The meat has an unpretentious flavor like that of pork or chicken, and the taste is particular from that of squid's, however a few people think they taste the same. Something beneficial about octopus meat is that it promptly assimilates the flavor in whatever it is cooked in. It's generally considered more tender and juicier than squid meat, yet I think it depends upon how the dish is made.
