In this unusual situation of Bangladesh’s two women came forward as commander to empower women, one is Dr Sakia Haque and the other is Dr Manoshi Saha.

Sakia and Manoshi decided to open a group on Facebook which is called Travelettes of Bangladesh (ভ্রমনকন্যা) in November 2016. Initially there were 20-25 women on this close page. More information about tourism is also highlighted through the website.

The founders of the Travelettes of Bangladesh (ভ্রমনকন্যা) Sakia and Manoshi spend their childhood in Khulna city. They were very sharp and intelligent from their school life. They always think if they will get opportunity, they will travel the world. But naturally, like other girls they grew up in a conservative family and there was no chance to fulfill their desire.

After their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination, they got admitted themselves into Dhaka medical college and hospital. Since then, they have been regularly travelling to different places of the country with different travel groups. It was possible along with their medical studies because they had this desire. However, they always believed that if a group of women walked around in groups, the level of happiness would have increased and the natural beauty could have been enjoyed more.

Initially, Travelettes of Bangladesh (ভ্রমনকন্যা) received the approval from tourism ministry as an online base travel group. But now it is not just a group of social media, it has become the organization .http://www.travelettesofbangladesh.com ]. This organization had earned award such as, ‘Joy Bangla Youth Award (2018).

Now the members of this group are traveling around the country frequently. Now they have many ideas to expansion of tourism industry and women who are interested in travelling as well as ensure a self-traveler.

Travelettes of Bangladesh (ভ্রমনকন্যা)’s first tour was in Narsingdi in January of last year. 19 women took part in this trip. Generally, this group hardly visit the common traditional resort or tourism spots, the group believes in exploring. They explore those places which still unknown to common people. Keokradong Hill, Cox’s Bazar, Dinajpur, Bogura, srimangal, Moulvibazer, Tangua Haor, Comilla, Anial Bill, Saint-martin – these are some places they visited as a group.

They released a magazine named ‘ভ্রমনকন্যা (Vromonkonna)’in their two year anniversary as an organization. Dr Sakia said, ‘only girls writes on their magazine and 3 best write up are selected to reward.’

Last year a three days long exhibition were held in Bangladesh Shilpokala Academy from March 30 to April 1st.The purpose was to encourage women to travel by showing pictures of the beauty of the country. Around 250 pictures picked from around 6000 photographs of different women's are displayed on exhibition. So, we decided to travel the country with the scooter. Beside this we are going to visit girl’s schools in every district, communicate with them and create awareness campaign. With the help of karnaphuli automobile, we travel the country with the scooter. So far, we have gone to the 33 districts by running scooter. We want to visit the remaining 31 districts also.”

By visiting the schools, they are getting huge response from girls. In universities, Sakia and Manoshi have organised workshop on tourism, liberation war, health awareness, child marriage, self defense etc.

Dr Sakia said, ‘along with the joy of travelling, this work is giving us extra satisfaction.’ She also said, “our aim and purpose are to create opportunities to those women’s who are interested in traveling but just because absence of partner they can’t make this happened so that everybody can enjoy the beautiful places all over the country.”
