I just moved into my college dorm and I hate it here so much, I just want to go home but I can’t, do you have any tips on how to keep the homesickness at bay?

oh sweetheart im so sorry to hear that you are feeling this way. tbh i didnt know what to say because my campus is just about two hours commute from our place and i just braved the travel. but i have a friend who moved out (five hour commute from her place to campus) and is living in the college dorms and she said these are what she did to get over the homesickness:

routine was so important to me so i started a new one. (she would wake up at 7am to jog, grab matcha after, then come back to the dorms to shower. when school wasn't starting yet, she said she still walked around the campus to familiarize herself because she wanted to know the best hangout spots.)

i found something to keep me busy. (she went to the plant nursery and got new plants for her dorm; went thrifting for a rug and for a new bag. she also knits so apparently she made a goal to make a sweater.)

i kept in touch with the fam and her friends. (she said she'd keep calling; when she was knitting, she'd either watch a movie or call.)

she suggested i add using campus sources, particularly the counselling one, because they are a good help.

at the end of the day, she said, it will get better. that it is going to be tough at the start because of course your whole life was back home, but dont forget to have fun now, she said. living alone has apparently made her more mature, but also more conscious of listening to herself and her needs.

As Nikita’s problematic pregnany neared her third and final trimester, she and Paul decided it was time they stopped putting off that promised visit to The Ridge. August tagged along at Paul’s request, prepared to be a buffer in the face of any overly pushy parental proposals.

The couple was still unsure if they wanted to leave Brindleton, but if they did decide to make the move it seemed wise to do so before the baby was born. That way they could be comfortably settled in their new home before the responsibilities of parenthood turned their world upside down.

Spencer and Hope greeted them warmly and were eager to show them some “special surprises”, starting with a trip to the 2nd floor of their large ranch home. August offered to head out back and grill up some lunch while the others dutifully followed Paul’s parents upstairs.

The young parents to be smiled in appreciative wonder as Spencer and Hope led them into a fully furnished nursery. They’d been talking about repurposing one of the downstairs spare rooms at the homestead into a space for the baby but hadn’t been able to find the time to begin.

Paul’s folks told the couple that their bedroom would be right down the hall, with easy access to this lovely little space. Though of course, one of the best perks of living with Grandma and Grandpa was happy help with those late-night fussy spells so mom and dad could get a good night’s sleep.

The couple checked out that bookshelf lined bedroom down the hall before joining August for lunch, finding it as cozy and convenient as promised.

The budding chef had prepared healthy tofu dogs with low carb buns Hope had picked up in deference to Nikita’s diet. As they all dug in, Paul mentioned his eagerness to see the crops he might be tending, and Spencer promised he’d be quite happy with “the work space”.

The tail end of their meal was punctuated with a visit from a fuzzy little friend who had escaped from the barn. Hope said Toudou loved cuddles and Nikita couldn’t resist giving the little guy lots of gentle pettings (and a few table scraps may have been delivered to his velvety little snoot).

True to his word, after lunch Spencer showed his son a greenhouse, very similar to the one at the homestead, which was tucked behind the horse barn.

Inside was a flower arranging table and all the supplies Paul would need for his craft. Spencer explained that moving to the ranch didn’t mean Paul would have to give up his passion for floral arranging. They had Aliyah and ranch hands to help with harvest season and there was plenty of space to plant some of the fresh flowers Paul would need for his arrangements.

The townsfolks here appreciated local artisans, and he was sure they would love bouquets and arrangements for all their special occasions and events.

The young folks thanked their elders for a lovely afternoon and promised to call them with a decision soon.

Back home that evening Nikita and Paul settled in their favorite spot to chat. In no time they both realized that the choice seemed like a no brainer. While they’d miss the company of their friends here, what Hope and Spencer were offering was simply too good to pass up.

Joining the family business would allow Paul to quit his job at the greenhouse, pursuing his passion while enjoying more flexibility to spend time with his wife and son. As for Nikita, the extra helping hands at the ranch would make it that much easier to continue her studies and complete her degree.

While Nikita called up Spencer and Hope to give them the good news, Paul turned in his resignation. The young couple then headed downstairs to tell their friends that soon they’d have much more space for themselves in the old homestead by the Bay.

Courtlandt Legacy | Part 9 - Excited Future Parents

 Caleb is late for work!! It’s 12pm and he was supposed to be at work at 10am. Caleb, what are you doing? It isn’t flashing at him, so it’s VERY likely that it was intentional from the last time we played, but that was a couple weeks ago so we are NOT allowing a day off anymore. Get to work, Caleb! There’s a baby coming – we need all the funds we can get!

Poor Daphne got home from work and she was starving. Gardening is already hard work – gardening while pregnant is probably extra hard with all the bending and pulling. Poor girl needs to get some of that energy back. Luckily they have some leftovers in the fridge. Daphne was really feeling the grilled fruit, so she got some of that and sat down to relax.

She also came home with an inventory full of harvestables – she had picked everything before going to work that morning – which earned her and Caleb another 200 simoleons. Those peas and green peppers sell for quite a bit!

Though their bedroom is complete, the nursery is still quite sparse, they only have one bathroom furnished, and they still need to complete building their living room and kitchen areas. Right now, the cash is definitely needed for that, though they’re definitely doing better than the slab of flooring on top of the grass Daphne started with. Perhaps, even someday, they can have their own homestead and a selling table. A girl can dream!

After a yummy meal, Daphne was feeling pretty great about herself. She decided to do a little home renovation to expand the living area a little bit more. She even changed up the wallpaper to add a bit of color to her home.

She decided to get comfortable in the kiddie pool to relax for a little while. The warm sun, the cool breeze, and the nearby plants make it a much cozier place to rest than the empty living room.

After her well deserved relaxation in the pool, Daphne turned in for an early night. Caleb wouldn’t be home for another hour, but she was still quite tired from her workday and she’d be in her second trimester very soon. Best to keep up on those zzz’s now BEFORE the baby arrives!

Caleb brought home another couple hundred simoleons, then decided to head out to the library to complete his work task. He really wanted to have his own study someday so that he would have his own space to do some programming, but they weren’t likely to be able to afford a computer for quite awhile, anyway.
