How to Clean Kota Stone Flooring
Kota stone flooring is a popular choice for homeowners and commercial spaces alike, thanks to its durability, affordability, and natural aesthetic appeal. Originating from the Kota district in Rajasthan, India, this limestone is known for its rich color variations, ranging from subtle greens to elegant browns and grays. Kota stone's unique texture and strength make it an ideal material for both indoor and outdoor use. However, like any natural stone, it requires proper care and maintenance to retain its beauty and longevity. In this blog, we’ll guide you through the best practices for cleaning and maintaining your Kota stone flooring.
Understanding Kota Stone Flooring
Before diving into the cleaning process, it's essential to understand the nature of Kota stone. Being a natural stone, it has pores and can absorb liquids, which might lead to staining if not cleaned properly. Moreover, improper cleaning techniques can damage the stone's surface or dull its finish. Therefore, using the right methods and products is crucial to keep your Kota stone flooring looking its best.
Daily Cleaning Routine for Kota Stone Flooring
Maintaining the appearance of your Kota stone flooring requires a simple yet effective daily cleaning routine:
Sweeping: Begin by sweeping the floor with a soft-bristle broom or a microfiber dust mop. This will help remove dust, dirt, and debris that can scratch the surface over time.
Mopping: Use a damp mop to clean the floor. It's important to avoid soaking the floor with water, as excess moisture can seep into the stone’s pores, potentially leading to discoloration. A mild, pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for natural stone is ideal. Mix the cleaner with water according to the manufacturer’s instructions and mop the floor. Ensure that the mop is only damp and not wet.
Drying: After mopping, dry the floor with a soft, clean cloth or towel. This step helps prevent water spots and streaks, keeping the stone’s surface shiny and smooth.
Dealing with Stains on Kota Stone Flooring
Despite your best efforts, stains can sometimes occur on Kota stone flooring. Here’s how to tackle different types of stains effectively:
Organic Stains: Stains from food, beverages, or other organic materials can usually be removed with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia. Apply the mixture to the stained area, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it off with a clean cloth. Be cautious when using ammonia, as it can dull the finish if used excessively.
Oil-Based Stains: Grease, cooking oil, and other oily substances can leave stains on Kota stone. To remove these, sprinkle some baking soda on the stain to absorb the oil. After a few hours, clean the area with a soft cloth dampened with a mild dishwashing detergent mixed with warm water.
Rust Stains: Rust stains can be particularly stubborn. A commercial rust remover specifically designed for natural stone is your best bet. Follow the product instructions carefully, as using the wrong type of cleaner can damage the stone.
Periodic Deep Cleaning and Sealing
In addition to daily cleaning, your Kota stone flooring will benefit from periodic deep cleaning and sealing. This helps maintain its appearance and provides an added layer of protection against stains and wear.
Deep Cleaning: Every few months, consider deep cleaning your Kota stone flooring. You can do this by using a stone-safe cleaner and a soft brush to scrub the surface gently. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive brushes, as they can damage the stone.
Sealing: Sealing Kota stone flooring is crucial, as it reduces the stone’s porosity and makes it more resistant to stains. Depending on the type of sealer used, this process should be done every 1 to 2 years. Apply the sealer evenly over the clean, dry floor and allow it to absorb before wiping off any excess.
Kota Stone Design and Maintenance Tips
Maintaining the elegance of your Kota stone design is about more than just cleaning. Here are some additional tips to keep your flooring looking its best:
Avoid Acidic Cleaners: Never use acidic or vinegar-based cleaners on Kota stone flooring. These can etch the surface and lead to dull spots.
Use Rugs and Mats: Place rugs or mats at entryways to prevent dirt and debris from being tracked onto the flooring. This also reduces wear in high-traffic areas.
Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect your Kota stone flooring for any signs of damage or wear. Addressing issues early can prevent more extensive repairs later on.
Conclusion
Kota stone flooring is a timeless choice that combines beauty with durability. By following these cleaning and maintenance tips, you can ensure that your Kota stone flooring remains in excellent condition for years to come. Whether you’re dealing with everyday dirt or stubborn stains, the key is to use the right products and techniques to protect and preserve your investment.
For more effective cleaning, maintenance, and a variety of designs, always consider professional advice when in doubt, and enjoy the natural beauty of your Kota stone flooring.

MARBLE
Marble is one of the most luxurious stones and is highly preferred because of its natural grain patterns and high luster which infuses a rich and elegant look. Marble can be broadly classified into Italian marble which is quarried from Northern Italy and Indian marble which is primarily quarried from the Indian state of Rajasthan. If you are confused between these two options then this guide will tell you whether Indian or Italian marble is more suitable for your home.
Makrana Marble: Makrana is the source of the marble used in the Taj Mahal. It is situated at a distance of 60 km from Kishangarh and falls in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan. The region has various mining ranges, mainly Doongri, Devi, Ulodi, Saabwali, Gulabi, Kumari, Neharkhan, Matabhar, Matabhar Kumari, Chuck Doongri, Chosira, and Pahar Kua amongst others.
Rajnagar Marble: World’s largest marble-producing area, with over 2,000 gang saw units located in the nearby town of Udaipur to process the material produced. Agaria is a variety of this area, with numerous other varieties and patterns, primarily in white base. The marble is dolomitic and often has quartz intrusions.
Andhi Marble: Located near the capital city of the state of Jaipur (also known as the ‘Pink City’), it is dolomitic marble with intrusions of tremolite, and is commonly known by the name of pista (pistachio) marble, because of the green-colored tremolite against an off-white background. One of the famous varieties of this area was known as Indo-Italian, owing to its resemblance with Statuario Marble. Most of the mining of this famous field is now banned by the Supreme Court of India because of the vicinity of the area to the Sariska Tiger Reserve.
Slumber Marble: Also known as Onyx Marble, it has thick bands of green and pink hint. A resemblance to Onyx Marble from Pakistan gives it this name. This is also highly dolomitic.
Yellow Marble: Jaisalmer stone is found in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. Though not been metamorphosed and hence is still a limestone, it is known as Yellow Marble in trade circles. It is mined in the Jaisalmer District.
Bidasar: These are ultra-basic rocks in shades of brown and green color found in Rajasthan. The crisscross linear pattern gave it a remarkable resemblance to a photograph of dense forest. These are also known as forest green/brown or fancy green/brown.
Gujarat – AmbaJi White Marble: It can be compared with Makrana Marble. It is highly calcic and is produced in a town called AmbaJi (famous for its temple of Durga Devi). The marble has a very soft and waxy look and is often used by sculptors.
Rajasthan – Abu Black: This is one of the rare Black textured marble available. Only produced in the mines of Abu road, this black textured stone is a decorative marble used in temples and sculptures.
Madhya Pradesh – Katni Range: It is famous for its beige-colored marble which is dolomitic but highly crystalline, with very fine grain size and some quartz intrusions. The marble accepts polish. Another variety of the same range is red/maroon-colored marble.
Indian Green Marble: It is found in Rajasthan India, Indian Green Marble’s most quarries are situated in Kesariyaji it is 60 km far from Udaipur Rajasthan India. This Indian green marble is known by name all over the world. In Europe, people know Indian green marble as a Verde Guatemala. Many varieties are available in Indian green marble. Indian Green Marble is exported to Africa, Europe, Australia, Middle East, and many Asian countries. It is found in the Rishabh town of Udaipur District state Rajasthan of India.

Appearance
Italian marble has a luxurious crystal-like appearance and a high lustrous sheen while Indian marble has a medium luster.
Both these types of natural marble are available in a wide variety of color options and natural grain patterns.
Strength and Durability
Indian marble is available in a thickness of about 30mm while the thickness of Italian marble ranges between 18 to 20 mm.
While the latter is much softer, it may develop small hairline cracks over a period of time.
A thin nylon sheet is used as a backing for this type of marble so that it can provide extra reinforcement.
Also, Italian marble has to be treated with epoxy resins and matching pigments to increase its strength, hence one side of the Italian marble is always pre-polished so that it can hide the chemical resins.
Maintenance
Italian and Indian marble have the tendency to lose their luster after a few years. Therefore both should be periodically polished to retain their original shine. Marble polishing can be done by using carborundum stone and tin oxide.
All the liquid spills on the marble should be cleaned immediately.
The routine cleaning of both these types of marble involves cleaning with a mild detergent or with mild cleaners which are specially formulated for cleaning marble.
Since marble is a delicate stone, it should never be scrubbed. Italian marble and Indian marble should be sealed with impregnating sealers which create a protective and stain-resistant surface.

Amazing White Marble Inlay Handicrafts.
As you know the marble art is famous from the Mughal period which glorifies the beauty of Indian culture, so let us explain the detailed history of white marble inlay handicrafts and explore how to make marble products in different regions of India.
Italian Marble
Nowadays Pietra Dura is a beautiful marble semi-precious stone that began in the workshops of Florence in Italy around the end of the 16th century, Pietra means (stone) and Dura means (hard) this marble is widely used to make white marble Inlay handicrafts in India. Another reason we use Italian marble is for its durability and purity. Pietra dura appeared on a range of objects from decorative panels to a hand-carved bird to flower motifs to cabinet fronts to coffee table tops and trinket boxes which enhance the pietra dura art.
Types of Italian Marble
There are three most common types of Italian marble.
1- Carrara
2- Calacatta
3- Statuary
Carrara- It is available in white or blue-grey marble for use in home decor and also used in taj mahal work for its construction. Carrara is located in the Italian province of Massa-Carrara and in the region of Tuscany in north-central Italy, in the foothills of the Apuan Alps. This stunning natural stone is white and gray and features elegant grey veining.
Calacatta- It is a distinctive white Italian marble with gray and gold veining used to make tabletop inlay work. Calacatta marble is mainly used in interior applications where it is very visible. Projects such as entrance or foyer flooring and plates marbles, wall coverings, and kitchen tops are the most common marble inlaid. This Marble is associated with luxury due to its rarity and unique, distinctive appearance.
Statuary- It has a pure white background and elegant grey veins across the stone, This marble is also used to make marble inlay table tops, and flower vases. This marble is a very bright white in color, and it is relatively rare.
Stone of Afghanistan - Lapis Lazuli
The term Lapis Lazuli originates from Afghanistan which was separated from India in 1893. Lapis Lazuli is widely used for white marble handicrafts and It is a rock formed by multiple minerals, mostly Lazurite, Sodalite, Calcite, and Pyrite, and is a rich medium to royal blue with gold flecks (pyrites). It comes under Metamorphic Rock.
