The defect in the muscular wall which usually keeps abdominal organs in their place allows organs and tissues to push through or herniate, producing a rounded swelling or protrude in the outer surface of the muscular wall. Most hernias occur within the abdominal cavity, between the chest and the hips. Hernias usually don’t go on their own; in rare cases, they get bigger and can lead to life-threatening conditions. 

Depends on the size, symptoms, and patient’s condition doctors often decide to do surgery. Sometimes when the conditions aren’t life-threatening hernias can get better on their own, it may disappear when the person lies down. It may also reappear because of coughing. But it is advisable to see a doctor in every condition to stop it from getting fatal.
