Teen Hair Loss and Body Image: Building Confidence
Hair loss can be a challenging experience for anyone, but it can be particularly difficult for teenagers who are already navigating the complexities of adolescence. The impact of hair loss on a teenager's body image and self-esteem can be significant, affecting their overall well-being. It is important to address hair loss concerns in teenagers and provide them with the support and resources they need to build confidence and embrace their unique beauty.
Understanding Teen Hair Loss
Teen hair loss can be caused by various factors, including:
Genetics: Androgenetic alopecia, a hereditary form of hair loss, can affect teenagers.
Autoimmune Conditions: Alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder that causes patchy hair loss, can also occur in teenagers.
Nutritional Deficiencies: Deficiencies in certain vitamins and minerals can contribute to hair loss.
Medications: Some medications can have hair loss as a side effect.
Stress and Hormonal Changes: Emotional stress and hormonal fluctuations during adolescence can also impact hair growth.
The impact of hair loss on a teenager's appearance and self-perception can be significant. Changes in hair texture, volume, and density can lead to feelings of self-consciousness and lack of confidence.
Coping with Hair Loss
Coping with hair loss can be challenging, but there are several strategies that teenagers can employ to build resilience and maintain a positive outlook:
Seeking Support
Open Communication: Talk to your parents, trusted adults, or friends about how you are feeling. Sharing your emotions can help you feel less alone and receive support.
Support Groups and Online Communities: Connect with others who are experiencing similar challenges through support groups or online communities. Sharing experiences and advice can be helpful.
Embracing Self-Acceptance
Redefining Beauty Standards: Challenge societal beauty standards and focus on inner qualities and strengths. Beauty is not solely defined by hair.
Self-Care and Self-Compassion: Practice self-care activities that promote relaxation and well-being. Be kind to yourself and avoid negative self-talk.
Exploring Treatment Options
Consultation with Professionals: Consult with a dermatologist or hair loss specialist to discuss potential treatment options.
Understanding Available Treatments: Learn about the various treatments available, such as medications, hair transplants, and lifestyle changes.
Building Confidence and Self-Esteem
Developing a positive mindset is crucial for building confidence and overcoming challenges related to hair loss. Here are some strategies to consider:
Affirmations and Positive Self-Talk: Practice positive self-talk and affirmations to challenge negative thoughts about your appearance.
Challenging Negative Thoughts: Identify and challenge negative thoughts about yourself. Replace them with positive and empowering statements.
Dressing for Confidence: Choose clothing that makes you feel good about yourself. Experiment with different styles and accessories to express your individuality.
Engaging in Empowering Activities: Participate in hobbies and interests that boost your self-esteem and confidence. Surrounding yourself with supportive friends and peers can also be beneficial.
Hairstyles and Hair Care
Choosing flattering hairstyles and practicing proper hair care can help to minimize the appearance of hair loss and boost confidence.
Consulting with Stylists: Consult with a stylist who is experienced in working with thinning hair. They can recommend hairstyles that can help to disguise hair loss and enhance your appearance.
Volumizing Cuts and Styles: Consider hairstyles that add volume and texture, such as layered cuts or textured bobs.
Proper Hair Care: Use gentle, nourishing products tailored for your hair type. Avoid excessive heat styling and chemical treatments that can damage hair. Consider adding a hair tonic for hair growth in your hair care regimen for a targeted relief.
Inspiring Success Stories
Sharing real-life examples of teenagers who have overcome hair loss-related body image issues can be inspiring and motivating. Hearing about their journeys to self-acceptance and confidence can provide hope and encouragement.
Conclusion
Teen hair loss can be a challenging experience, but it is important to remember that you are not alone. By seeking support, embracing self-acceptance, and building confidence, you can navigate this difficult time and emerge stronger. Remember, your worth is not defined by your hair. You are beautiful and capable, regardless of your appearance.

EDWARDIAN HAIR CARE
REGULAR HAIR CARE
Hair was brushed every morning before dressing it, and should be brushed and put into a loose braid each night. In the summer, two braids was recommended for better ventilation.
Combs and brushes were to be washed after each use.
If one has the time and energy, a massage can be done daily. Many women with long, luscious locks claimed this to be the key to their hair.
Hair tonics were applied usually every other day. These often included oils that we still use for hair today (such as rosemary oil, bergamot oil and castor oil). Some were made for the scalp, other tonics were to be applied to the ends of the hair.
HAIR WASHING
Edwardians believed that shampooing too often would rid the hair of necessary oils, and cause the hair to become dry and fall out. I read some sources that claimed hair should be washed once a month, with some using dry shampoo methods to prolong the time between washes, stretching it out to 5 weeks. If the hair was prone to becoming greasy, you may want to wash it every 7-10 days. Other sources claimed that hair should be washed once a week. It seems women with longer hair agreed that hair should be washed as little as possible.
Shampoos were either made at home, or the hair was washed at a salon. There were many different shampoo recipes, though a very simple one was to mix two raw eggs and two tablespoons of water. A mug would have been used to properly rinse the hair out with clean water, until no particle of shampoo remained. The water would be as cold as they could bare it.
There were a few methods of drying the hair. Patting dry or wringing out hair with a towel, using a palm-leaf fan to fan the hair, sun and air drying. Some used a mixture of these methods. Some Edwardians liked to lay their hair out over a radiator to dry the hair in a much quicker manner, though they knew this would damage the hair, especially after the shampoo removed any protecting hair-oils.
Something to note here is that Edwardians used boar bristle hairbrushes, which distributes the oils of the hair evenly unlike many modern hair brushes. Since they were brushing their hair daily, this is how their hair was able to avoid the greasy look and have a longer time period between washes.
HAIR CUTTING / SINGEING / SPLIT ENDS TREATMENT
The Edwardians used singeing as a means for treating hair that is âimpoverished or not in normal condition.â When the ends of oneâs hair were dry and split, the hair would be subjected to burning, which was to be done by professionals. âTake strands of hair, twist them tightly â that there will be no draught â and then quickly run over each a lighted taper, that burns the tiny ends sticking out and does not affect the long growth.â
Hair singeing was not to be done more often than once in three months, and sometimes longer.
Many believed the superstition that hair singeing should not be done except when the moon in new.
Some also believed this hair-singeing to be the best method, and that the hair should not be cut with scissors, as it would âmake the hair bleed,â (they thought the âunsealedâ ends from hair cutting would allow moisture from the hair to drip out, whereas burning would seal the ends).

Imayo Mikomori
BASICS:
Nicknames: N/A Age: She believes she's roughly twenty-five Nameday: 15th Sun, 4th Umbral Moon Race: Raen Au Ra Gender: Cis Female Orientation: Pansexual (in theory -- she's never had a partner) Profession: Tattoo artist (specializing in irezumi) - herbalist/alchemist - exorcist
PHYSICAL ASPECTS:
Hair: Inky black, with dark blue highlights Eyes: Crystalline white with black limbal rings, no discernable pupils Skin: Deathly, ghostly white with blue undertones, with a disproportionately large percentage of her body covered with reptilian dull black scales Tattoos/Scars: A thin, ragged line across her throat, now concealed by the scales which grew over her throat when an alchemical tonic caused a physical reaction. Notably, Imayo no longer has horns. The same tonic that caused excessive scale growth also caused her horn material to die and slough off. She now must rely on a linkpearl to hear most high-frequency sounds, and keeps a linkpearl embedded into a scale where her right horn used to be.
FAMILY:
Parents: Hisako Mikomori (M) [Deceased] / Tomoki Koizumi (F) [Deceased] Hisako Mikomori, the last living Mikomori of a declining samurai family, volunteered as a miko to serve at an isolated shrine in order to provide her ancestors with the proper homage. While serving, she was introduced to the Koizumi family who wished a 'ghost marriage' made to placate the restless spirit of their eldest son, Tomoki. Hisako agreed to perform the ceremony and was cast out of the shrine five months later when it became evident she was pregnant. No one believed her tale of Tomoki possessing a pilgrim to the shrine to have a proper wedding night and she was forced to live on the Koizumi family's sufferance. Siblings: N/A Grandparents: The Koizumi patriarch, Takamori, returned Imayo to the shrine her mother had served at and died shortly after Hisako Mikomori's suicide. In-Laws & Others: N/A As a "shadowborn" (the product of a ghost marriage) Imayo is considered bad luck [at best] and shunned by the majority of Kugane's populace. Only the desperate come to her small herbalist shop for aid during daylight hours. Her closest affiliates are criminals who come to her for irezumi tattoo work. They provide protection on a "tit for tat" basis, including guarding her shop when Imayo's called away by the priests of her mother's shrine to perform exorcisms.
SKILLS:
Abilities: As a 'shadowborn,' Imayo has a particularly strong affinity for the dead and serves as a reibai (medium) or exorcist when needed. She is able to see, hear, and speak to the dead. She is also capable of creating ofuda for protection, banishing spirits, and can sense yokai. Years of careful study have given her a wide range of knowledge about the spirit world she interacts with daily. She is also knowlegable about herbalism and alchemy, concocting tonics and potions to sell as they're requested. Hobbies: With ⌠a lot of time on her hands, Imayo practices calligraphy, sewing, herbalism, the tea ceremony, Doman mahjong⌠She also reads excessively and studies cookbooks, curious about cuisines in other lands.
TRAITS:
Most Positive: Imayo is resilient. Despite her precarious start in life, her precarious position in society, and her lack of⌠basic human connections, she still finds beauty in the world and is determined to create a life for herself in which she can find a measure of contentment. Most Negative: Imayo expects to be rejected and will often read rejection where perhaps none was extended. She's reluctant to open up about her birth, her health, her life in general as she's received poor responses in the past and just⌠doesn't want to get her hopes up again.
LIKES:
Colors: Vibrant sunset colors are Imayo's favorites. Rich, warm colors seem so out of place in her life (she tends to wear black and grey as she feels that beautiful colors are wasted on her particular coloration) that she appreciates them whenever and wherever she encounters them. Smells: Pine (which she loves the scent of, but also can't smell without feeling a pang of sadness) and roses Textures: High quality silk, worn tatami mats, book pages, warm living skin beneath her hands when she's creating a tattoo Drinks: Green tea, hibiscus tea, sakura tea, sake, fresh well water
OTHER DETAILS:
Smokes: Never. Imayo's health is particularly fragile and she can't risk anything that might cause her chronic illness, such as smoke-damaged lungs. Drinks: Rarely. She will very occasionally have a small cup of sake. Drugs: Only medicinal herbs. Mount Issuance: Animals dislike Imayo's presence, becoming unruly and edgy when she's nearby, so she's never sought to purchase her own mount. If she needs to travel, she's made arrangements with a fellow merchant who has an elderly chocobo that is⌠as accustomed to her presence as an animal can be. Been Arrested: No.

TIMING: Sometime recently idk who knows FEATURING: Felix (@recoveringdreamer) & Thea (@notstinky) LOCATION: The Grit Pit SUMMARY:Â With the help of a mysterious hair growth serum purchased online, Thea is no longer bald! With renewed confidence she accosts the coolest fighter ever (Felix) in the locker room. Unfortunately, there's something that's an ever bigger fan of Felix than Thea...
The Hair was bored. The Hair had tried pinching people during the match, but the imbecilic container of flesh it was attached to wouldn't stop squirming. The Hair demanded entertainment. The Hair was growing and growing minds needed more than just shampoo and conditioner. The Hair would find a way. But the hair liked the transforming cat person. As a cat, they had been covered in hair. The idea was appealing to The Hair. The Hair wanted that for everyone. The Hair would find a way for that too.Â
âYou were so cool out there!â Thea bounced in place, clapping her hands. âWhen you took out your claws and you wentââ Thea mimicked the actions of Felix, completely with comic book âswishâ and Wolverineâs âsniktâ sound effects. âYou really showed that uhâŚwhatever that thing you were fighting was⌠But you really showed it whoâs in charge!â Thea beamed, technically she wasnât supposed to be in the locker rooms unless she was cleaning them but if she went around authoritatively with her janitorâs cart, who was going to tell her she wasnât allowed to talk to Felix? âI, uh, found this by the ring.â Thea reached into her pocket and pulled out a tuft of Felixâs fur. âI donât know if you want this back to like⌠super-glue on your fursuit or whatever.âÂ
The Hair twitched at the mention of fur. As the inane conversation between the meat sacks went on, it lengthened down Theaâs back, curious about what mischief it could dip its split-ends into.Â
â
The fight hadnât been a particularly hard one, as far as Grit Pit fights went. It was a weeknight, so there was no need to up the stakes to draw in a big crowd, and the Pit didnât want to âwasteâ Wildcat by getting the balam injured before the weekend came and brought the more profitable fights with it. Tonightâs âworkâ had been almost monotonous in a way â slash here, punch there. They asked Felix to play it up for the crowds, and they did the best they could if only to avoid the lecture that would come with disobeying. There were areas where rebelling made little sense; Felix would rather save their energy for the big stuff.
They settled onto the bench in the locker room, pulling their shirt over their head. Senses still enhanced with the jaguar close to the surface, they heard, smelled, felt Thea enter the locker room before she spoke and smiled as they pulled their head through the loose t-shirt. âHey, thanks,â they replied. They didnât really like the fighting, but it was nice to have a âfanâ when the fan was as kind as Thea. She wasnât like the people in the stands who cheered when Felix bled on the mat â she was their friend.Â
Reaching out hesitantly, they took the tuft of fur. âUh⌠I donât really need that back. But I appreciate it, anyway!â In spite of their claim and the fact that they really did have no use for the fur, they tucked it in the pocket of their gym shorts, just to be nice. âUm, did you change your hair? Itâs â It looks cool.â
â
âMy hair?â A flare of defensiveness ran through Thea, before she remembered that she wasnât bald anymoreâthe miracle tonic she bought online had really done wonders! Of course, when she tried to look at the ingredients, it was just a winking face and when she tried to go back to the website, it was gone, but small businesses came and went all the time; such was the woes of capitalism. âYeah! My friend cut it!â She had cut it a little too much, she wanted to say, but felt bad about it. Cass had done a good job and it was her fault for squirming around on the stool.Â
But, at the mention of being cool, the hair waved all at once, as if a breeze had swept through the room. The hair was cool. The hair decided that it liked this cat personânoâit loved them. Did they need hair? They could have always used more hair. The hair continued its descent and slithered up towards Felixâs bag.Â
âYour hairâs pretty cool too,â Thea said, just to be polite. Mostly, it was covered in sweat. âDo you use gel or anything? Actually, when you put on your big cat fursuit, how do you get your fur all silky? Do you shampoo it?â Despite Felix explaining to her that the cat was a real creature they transformed into, Thea didnât believe it. Rather, she had simply chosen to ignore that it had even been said and move on with her life as though there were no such thing as Lip Balms (sheâd purposefully forgotten the word Felix used) or girls that turned into wolves. She thought she was doing a pretty good job of it; denial was her strongest skill.Â
Meanwhile, the hair decided it enjoyed Felixâs stink. It didnât have a noseâit was hairâbut that didnât matter. The hair knew good stink. The hair curled into Felixâs bag, spreading itself in the smell.Â
â
âWell they, uh⌠They did a really good job,â Felix said, offering Thea a thumbs up. Growing up, one of their sisters had been incredibly self conscious. They remembered how every change to her appearance had seen the entire house holding their breath, waiting to see if sheâd fall apart over it. Thea reminded them of her sometimes. Naturally, the inclination to ensure that she was happy with changes to her physical self existed just as much here as they had with Felixâs sister all those years ago.Â
It wasnât as if they were lying, though. Theaâs hair did look nice. It was⌠flowing, somehow, despite the fact that they were indoors and there definitely wasnât any wind or anything in here. And it seemed like it was⌠growing? But that couldnât be right. Hair grew slowly, Felix knew that.Â
Reaching up, they absently rubbed at their own hair. It was sticking up in every direction the way it always did after a fight, when the mixture of sweat and blood turned it wild. Felix didnât really know if the shifting had an effect on it or not. Did the jaguarâs ears mess up their hair when their body shifted back into its default state? They tried not to think about it too much. It was a little too weird. Which⌠might have been why Thea still refused to see the jaguar as anything more than a fursuit. Felix wanted to explain it to her again, wanted to insist that the jaguar was so much more than that, but they were tired, and they didnât want to overwhelm her.Â
So, rather than explain again, they only shrugged. Fiddled with the towel around their neck, wrinkled their nose a little. âI just wash it normal.â Felix figured the jaguar got clean when they did, since they shared a body and all. âUh, normal shampoo. And conditioner.âÂ
â
The socks were especially stinkyâdeliciously, juicily stinky. They were like little grapes of stink, bursting with stink flavour the more the hair wrapped itself into them. The hair needed to have the socks; the hair wanted to possess that beautiful stench.Â
âReally?â Thea âhuhâed with surprise; sheâd thought different materials needed different shampoos. No one dumped Head & Shoulders on a carpet and no one would think of using Pantene on their dog. Well, maybe people used Pantene on their dogs, she didnât know; she tried not to think about dogs. âBut like, are we talking Herbal Essences? OUAI?ââwhich Thea pronounced as âooh-eyâââOld Spice? Donât say Irish Springs. If you say Irish Springs Iâm going to lose respect for you.â Thea tried to sniff the air but regretted it the moment she did as a marching band of scents paraded into her nose and shot up into her brain. There was sweat, sour and stale; there was blood, sharp and metallic; and there was the sweet aroma of Bonbar shampoo, her hairâs signature scent. Her hair that wasâŚ.
Aloft, clutching in its dark tendrils several spherical wads of fabric. Thea squinted. Was thatâŚsocks? âUhâŚâ She turned to Felix, sweating down her face and into her blue jumpsuit. âI think my hair isâŚI think itâsâŚâ The hair was frozen, the only strands that moved slipped into and around Felixâs socks, writhing in the air like molasses in zero gravity. âUmâŚâ She didnât know what to say.Â
â
They could have sworn they saw Theaâs hair moving, but they kept their eyes planted firmly on her face rather than look. It would be silly, wouldnât it? Her hair moving around on its own. And if sheâd just gotten it cut, she was probably self conscious about it, so looking at it â gaping at it â would only make her feel bad. The last thing Felix wanted to do was make her feel bad. They didnât have a lot of friends, especially not in the Grit Pit. With things as tense as they were with Samir following the blue moonâs Razor/Wildcat showdown, Felix couldnât really afford to lose any more allies in here.Â
âNot Irish Springs,â they said quickly, wrinkling their nose. âThat stuff smells so weird. Uh, I usually use Dove? It smells nice. And itâs not very expensive, which is good!â Technically, Felix could probably afford expensive, but why spend more money on something if you liked the cheap stuff just fine? They werenât a big believer in spending money just to spend it the way some people seemed to. âWhat â What do you use? For your hair, I mean. It really does lookâŚâ
Their eyes finally drifted to her hair, and they blinked. It was moving. And Thea saw it, too. She pointed it out, and Felix followed the line of hair down, down, down, all the way to⌠their gym bag? The hair had Felixâs socks tangled in its âgrip,â and the balam blinked. âIs â Is your hair stuck in my socks? I donât think thatâs â theyâre dirty. Dirty socks. Your hairâs gonna get dirty, I donât â Iâm sorry, let meâŚâ They leaned down, moving to detangle the hair from the dirty socks in a way that hopefully wouldnât hurt her.
â
In reality, Thea had no use for knowing what shampoo Felix used, it wasnât like she was going to switch to their brand and smell her hair and pretend she was as cool as Felix, and that Felix was her best friend, and that they would go and get dairy-free ice cream together and, under those buzzing fluorescent lights, taking spoons from each otherâs scoops, theyâd discovered that they ordered the same ice cream flavor because they were just so similar; they were both so cool and normal and cool, especially. She wasnât going to do that because she wasnât weird, but she did think about it for several seconds longer than any normal person would have. She also imagined Felix in one of those Dove beauty commercials saying âI am beautifulâ as the camera zoomed in on their soft hair.Â
She couldnât be blamed then, that when she blinked at her floating hair, she thought it was another vivid imagination fuelled by sleep deprivation. Her body ran on coffee and willpower, after all. But Felix could see the hair too, and Felix was touching the hair. Thea stared at the scene in front of her. It was probably a fantasy; any moment now, Felix would turn around and say she was cool, like in all of her best dreams.Â
The Hair snapped around Felixâs wrist, sharp tendrils cutting into their flesh like metal wire. Those socks belonged to The Hair. It constricted, soaking up Felixâs blood as it wove itself around the socks, piercing the porous, sweaty fabric. It knitted new socks, ones that were equal parts hair and cotton-blend. The new socks dropped to the ground and the hair untangled itself from Felixâs wrists. The childrenâthe socksârose from the ground, spinning strands to form four appendages: two legs and two arms. From the writhing black cloud of hair still hovering, several balls of hair dropped like stones in a silky avalanche.Â
At once, the hair-socks and the hair balls lunged at Felix, hoping to merge with their flesh. The hair-socks wanted to be on their feetâwanted to becometheir feetâand the hair balls just wanted to eat Felixâthey were simple minded.
â
The hair wrapped around their wrist as they tried to detangle it, and that â oh, that was really tight, wasnât it? Without thinking, Felix yanked their hand back, wincing when they remembered that this hair was, in fact, attached to Theaâs head. âSorry!â They yelped, because the hair was tightening, and they were pretty sure it was too soon for their fingers to actually be turning blue due to lack of circulation but they swore they saw it, anyway. They really didnât want their hand to be cut off by hair. It would be a whole thing, and it would be messy, and theyâd probably get in trouble for only having one hand and it sounded like a whole thing, really. Felix yanked again, hand moving faster than his brain. âSorry! Sorry, Iâm â Thea, this is ââ
The hair released him. The hair spat out a sock. The sock was made of hair. The hair sock had legs and arms and, oh, there was more than one hair sock, wasnât that just â wasnât that perfect? Felix stumbled back as the hair socks moved towards them, eyes wide. Hairballs joined them, the small army moving towards Felix.
And then, they were on him.
Felix let out an undignified yelp, falling backwards over the bench behind them and tumbling to the floor. There was hair in their eyes, in their nose, in their mouth. Curled up around their feet, and â was it biting them? They kicked frantically. âThea?â Their voice was muffled by the hair. âThea, uh â I think â I think your hair is killing me? Thea, can you â Can you stop â having â hair?â
â
Stop having hair? Thea almost screamed, the only thing that stopped her was the fact that she wasnât sure if sheâd ever screamed before; what if it sounded bad? What if her scream wasnât like the girls in the movies moments before they got stabbed? Instead, she pouted. She thought that was a good enough replacement. âIâm not going to be bald again, Felix!â Sheâd done bald; tried it, didnât like it, thank you very much but she was going to pass on being bald again. Anyway, if this was all a dreamâwhich it was slowly occurring to her that it might not beâit didnât matter if Felix died, theyâd be totally fine! Right? âMaybe it just wants your fursuit? You have your fursuit around here somewhere, right? Iâm sure it just wants to see the fursuit againâŚâ Thea began pulling at lockers, trying to see which ones were unlocked and which housed Felixâs furry alter ego.Â
The hairballs nibbled on Felix, like rats chewing through a wall to get to the other side, to get to the meat. The Hair knew that it was in love. It wanted to become Felix. The mother cloud, the writhing mass of Theaâs hairâstill unfortunately tethered to her headâthat birthed the hairballs, began a slow push towards Felix. In its angry black depths was the desire to engulf them, become them, show them the pleasures of hair.Â
Thea continued to search for a fursuit that didnât exist.Â
â
Thea looked upset, and Felix felt a flash of guilt. You couldnât just tell people not to have hair, it wasnât polite. But â But they were pretty sure Theaâs hair was killing them. Yeah, actually, they were certain of it. It was in their nose, in their mouth, it was biting them. They could barely breathe, and Thea wasnât really as concerned as Felix thought she probably ought to be. Did she think they were pretending? âThea, I need â Please, you gotta ââ But she was too busy opening lockers, looking for a fursuit that didnât exist because it was Felixâs body, not a suit, they were a jaguar and a person and â
Wait. Jaguars had claws.Â
Feeling another flash of guilt and silently apologizing to Thea, Felix let those claws push through the pads of their fingers, let their hand shift into a paw. They brought the clawed appendage up, slicing through the hair that was the biggest problem currently â the bulk of it attempting to enter their mouth and nose. With their other hand, they tore the hair away. Now able to breathe more freely, they began batting the hairballs away, looking very much like a cat playing with balls of yarn⌠if the cat was a half-person, half-jaguar hybrid and the balls of yarn were small balls of sentient hair trying to kill them. Totally normal stuff.
â
The Hair recoiled; the large, writhing mass, seemed to lose its luster as its children perished, turning into nothing more than cut strands on the ground. Still, if it could just join with its love, Felix, then perhapsâŚperhapsâŚ. A world of hair was a glorious thing and The Hairâs mind was unable to move from the image of that jaguar in the ring. All that hair on that lean, muscular, killer body. It continued to move towards Felix, now looming above them.Â
Thea watched, giving up on her quest to find the fursuit. It was obvious to her now; her hair wouldnât stop until it had Felix or until Felix used their weirdly sharp nails to cut the hair up. Her gaze flickered to the strands on the ground and she sobbed softly. âDo it,â she said, looking back up. âYou have to do itâŚ.â Tears continued to rain down her face. âYou have to make me bald, Felix.âÂ
â
The hair just kept coming. Less intense now, almost as if it was grieving the loss of the bulk heâd sliced through and the hair balls that had been batted away, but still a problem all the same. Felix held up a clawed hand in a threatening manner, eyes shining gold as a little more of the jaguar came out. Of all the things the beast had ever swooped in to protect them from, this had to be the most⌠unexpected. The jaguar didnât know what to make of it any more than Felix did.
Thea was crying, and the guilt swimming in his chest was almost as painful as the threat of whatever this hair was trying to do. âSorry,â Felix said desperately, swiping at the hair again. âIâm sorry, Thea. I â I can buy you a wig! Or something!â Because they had to keep slicing through the hair as it came, and there was more and more of it on the ground and less and less of it on Theaâs head. At least it seemed to lose its consciousness when it was separated from her head and hit the floor, though whether it was âdeadâ or not was hard to say.Â
â
The Hair was dead. Once lustrous strands of black shrivelled into dried piles of pale string--gone was its colour, gone was its hunger. Gone was all that made The Hair.
Thea touched her head, pulling away chunks of pale thread that felt more like twine than hair. Under the fistfuls of dead hair was her pristine, hairless scalp. Heat flushed from her body, leaving nothing but the quivering husk of a girl. âA wig isnât hair,â she sniffled, knowing in her heart that some wigs were made out of hair and that wasnât a true statement and she should probably correct herself. She was too sad to bother with it. âItâs okay.â She glanced up at the blurred image of Felix, forcing a grin on her face. âItâs totally okay! It, um, itâŚâÂ
She wanted to explain that it wasnât the hair. For a long time she believed that her hair was redeeming; people called it lovely; it made her feel feminine and normal. Girls had hair. Girls like her had hair. Girls like the sort of girl she wanted to be had hair. It wasnât just the hair. Would Felix understand? It was the fact that nothing in her life ever seemed to go the way it ought to; not even something as silly as her hair. Thea sniffled. âItâs okay. Itâs not your fault.âÂ
Dazed, she stumbled to the locker room doors, digging her blunt nails into the wall. She looked back at her friend. âIâm sorry about your socks,â Thea said. âIâm not going to process the fact that you donât actually have a fursuit and might be part-cat for real because Iâm at my limit for traumas right now. Also Iâm bald. Iâm bald and Iâm sorry.â She turned away, tears soaking into her collar. âItâs not your fault Iâm the way that I am: bald.â She had more of the magic hair growth formula at home, she reminded herself. Yet, the numbness rattled through her bones. Why? Why was she like this? What was it about life and living that came so easily to cool people like Felix but completely missed her? What was wrong with her? âIâm bald,â she said, answering her question.Â
The door clicked behind her as she stumbled away.

Haha Scam fic!
@captmickey gave the idea and she n @flurrin gave the motivation <3
Will post to AO3 soon,,,
-+-
The Merchant of Miracles scanned the caravan, making sure no one was watching, before he took off his turban. He grumbled as his ears popped up â his long, pointed ears.
They ached from the hours spent pinned under his turban. He massaged them carefully.
Jumping to his feet, he sifted through his piles of wares before pulling out a small blue bottle with a worn-out warning label. Something about the all-natural ingredients increasing stress and anxiety levels, blah blah, he didn't care. He just wanted his ears to numb a little so he could do business in peace.
Then his ears twitched, turning to the sound of something at the door.
"Hey, just came to check in on an old pal again! How's my favorite merchant?"
Ah, zards, it was Stan.
The Merchant panicked - he couldn't be seen like this, so he pretended to slip and fall into the pile of merchandise.
"Agh! Don't you know it's rude to come in uninvited?? You're going to sprain my sartorius at some point, you old coot!" The Merchant blurted, in an attempt to ward Stan away.
It did quite the opposite. Merchant could hear Stan's steps getting closer.
"The caravan door was unlocked, so that's your cue to install better security!" Stan dug through the ingredients to try unburying the Merchant's face.
The Merchant buried himself further on purpose. "Excuse me, Mister Fancycakes is the best security anyone could ask for!"
He covered his entire body in the vial pile while he crafted a distraction.
"And, well, while you're here, you couldâŚ" Merchant reached for the first item he could, then unfurled it in front of his face. "...view this rare hand-woven rug found only on the outskirts of the endless desert! Goes great in living and dining rooms!"
Two sounds - The tapping of a foot, and contemplative, slightly unimpressed silence.
"I'm not here to buy anything, although your offer is intriguing! Maybe later." Stan scratched his chin. "It's a little awkward trying to make conversation with a rug."
"Sure is."
"...Could you put the carpet down?"
"...Yes. Of course! Let me justâŚ" The Merchant shimmied out of the mess of merchandise and hid on the other side of it, unsuccessfully trying to cover his ears while he made a plan to retrieve his turban again.
Stan noticed the turban hanging off the caravan's coat rack. "Say, I've never seen you without your turban on. Why's that?"
The Merchant snuck around, trying to blend into the corners. "Uh⌠I'm bald! Absolutely no hair on this noggin. It's very unflattering, so you do not wanna see it!"
Stan chuckled, "Well that's nothing to be ashamed of!" Stan took the turban and weaved his way towards the Merchant. "The only people who need to worry about that are customers wanting to buy hair growth tonic â buy one and we'll throw in a second one for just half the price!"
Stan turned to see a very obvious, not-at-all stealthy Merchant â pointy ears and all.
"...Though I don't think that's what you're worried about."
The Merchant just stood in the corner, awkwardly crouched, ears flat against the corner walls.
"Huh. So you're some kind of leprechaun?"
"Wh- oh, no no no! Do I even-" The Merchant stammered, "I'm an elf, a trickster fae, whatever term isn't offensive!"
"Ah, an elf! Would've never guessed. Your look doesn't exactly scream mystical, ethereal being, you know?"
The Merchant sneered, "Well you're not exactly the pinnacle of humanity either, are ya, bub?" He crossed his arms. "There are different kinds of elves."
"Aren't you folk supposed to have wings?"
"You're getting your fae jumbled, so save yourself from any wrong assumptions." The Merchant eyed his turban and snatched it from Stan's grasp, then screwed it on - leaving his ears out for comfort, and since hiding wasn't much use anymore.
"To answer your questions that I'm assuming you have, I hide them to prevent suspicion. People have biases against the unknown, especially in Daventry. No one buys from beings known for chicanery.
"AlsoâŚ" The Merchant flicked his ear and it drooped. "They're a nuisance."
"Well, curbing suspicion is a good business practice, so I understand that," Stan hummed, "But I think there's a certain appeal to them! An extra sort of panache, to double the flair you already have." He shot Merchant with some poorly-timed finger guns.
Merchant's ears twitched again at the sound of Stan's voice. "Also every time someone like you yells, these puppies are on the move!"
"Great, that means you're paying attention to my spiels!" Stan grinned â so wide that it was practically mockery.
Stan plopped down next to the Merchant. "And on top of that, you can hear the bargains a mile away!" Stan cupped his ear in the Merchant's direction, giving a warm smile. "You can't just turn down a good deal."
The Merchant couldn't help but echo back a smirk, rolling his eyes. His ears wiggled that slight bit more. "Heh, I suppose there are some perks."

Unani medicine aims to balance the humors and temperaments by using natural remedies such as herbs, minerals, animal products, diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications.

Desi Khand: The Natural Sweetener You Need in Your Kitchen | Goseva
When it comes to choosing a healthier alternative to refined sugar, Desi Khand is a perfect choice. But what exactly is Desi Khand, and why should you consider adding it to your diet? Letâs dive into everything you need to know about this traditional sweetener and its benefits.
What is Desi Khand?
Desi Khand is a naturally occurring sweetener made from sugarcane by conventional techniques. Unlike refined sugar, which undergoes multiple chemical processes, Desi Khand is prepared without the use of chemicals or artificial additives. This process retains the essential minerals and nutrients found in sugarcane, making Desi Khand a wholesome and healthier sweetening option.
Desi Khand Means: A Return to Natural Sweetness
The term âDesiâ refers to something indigenous, and in this case, it highlights the authentic, traditional method used to produce Khand. Desi Khand has been a part of Indian households for generations, where people have appreciated its unrefined, earthy sweetness. It's not just a substitute for sugarâit's a part of Indiaâs cultural heritage of natural, wholesome food products.
Desi Khand Benefits
Retains Nutrients: Desi Khand is rich in essential nutrients like iron, calcium, and magnesium, which are often lost in the refining process of white sugar.
Gentler on Blood Sugar: Compared to refined sugar, Desi Khand has a lower glycemic index, meaning it causes a slower rise in blood sugar levels.
Good for Digestion: Desi Khand is believed to promote healthy digestion and is often used in Ayurvedic preparations to balance the digestive system.
Less Processed: As Desi Khand undergoes minimal processing, it retains its natural molasses content, giving it a rich flavor and a slight brownish hue.
Boosts Energy Naturally: With its nutrient-dense profile, Desi Khand provides a slow and steady release of energy, which is why it has been traditionally used in various Ayurvedic tonics.
Aids in Skin and Hair Health: The mineral content in Desi Khand, especially the iron, helps improve blood circulation, which can have positive effects on skin health and hair growth.
Desi Khand Kya Hota Hai?
Desi Khand ka matlab hota hai ek prakritik aur sehatmand meetha jo ganna se banaya jata hai, bina kisi rasayanik prakriya ke. Ye ek aisi prachin parampara hai jise humare purvaj apnaate aa rahe hain. Desi Khand sugar ki jagah ek behtareen vikalp hai, jo aapke swaad aur sehat dono ka dhyaan rakhta hai.
