Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure used to treat infections or damage to the pulp (nerve) of a tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue.
During a root canal treatment, the dentist or endodontist will numb the affected tooth and remove the damaged or infected pulp from inside the tooth. The root canal system is then thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to remove any bacteria or debris.
Once the root canal is cleaned, the dentist or endodontist will fill the canal with a special material called gutta-percha to seal it and prevent any further infection. In most cases, a crown or other type of restoration is then placed on the tooth to protect it and restore its function.
Root canal treatment is often necessary when a tooth is severely decayed, cracked, or traumatized. Symptoms of a damaged or infected pulp may include tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, and discoloration of the tooth. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the surrounding tissues and lead to more serious health problems. Nerve fibers, blood, and lymph tissues are housed in the root canals. Located inside each tooth is a pulp chamber that funnels into those root canals. A tooth can become inflamed or infected for several reasons, including severe tooth decay or a crack or chip in the tooth. Failing restorations such as dental fillings and dental crowns can foster bacterial leakage into the dental pulp. Once infected, the dental pulp begins to die and the body’s inflammatory responses set it. The combination of infection and inflammation can cause significant pain. The end result is a toothache. In cases where tooth extraction is the only solution, the missing tooth may be replaced with a dental implant or dental bridge to maintain functionality. By replacing the missing tooth, a proper bite is maintained and the surrounding teeth are prevented from shifting. Because a severe infection can be very dangerous, it is important to receive a professional evaluation by a dentist who can look deeper into the cause of a toothache. If an infection spreads beyond the jaw to the head and neck, then more extensive medical treatment, including hospitalization, may be required.Call Us at 02 9686 3334 today to get more information, or use our Online Appointment system to schedule your visit at Design Dental Surgery Clinic.WE ARE THE BEST DENTAL SURGERY IN THE AREA AND NO HASSLE DENTAL CARE IS OUR PROMISE TO YOU!

The Oral Health Fee For Service Scheme (OHFFSS) allows public dental services in NSW to outsource treatment to private dental practitioners. When a patient requests dental treatment they are prioritised for care and may receive treatment at a public dental clinic, or if appropriate, be given the option to receive the treatment from a private provider (using an OHFFSS voucher). Note that the decision to provide treatment within a public dental clinic or by issuing a voucher lies with the public dental service, and is assessed on a case-to-case basis.
Eligible NSW residents may receive dental treatment either directly through the public dental service or be given an Oral Health Fee for Service Scheme (OHFFSS) voucher to receive treatment from a dental practitioner registered with the public dental service.
