2 - 25 The Big Reveal
OMG SEASON FINALE HVJNKBGDF I'VE BEEN WAITING TO WRITE THIS FOR SO LONG

NAAAAA i'm just gonna jump right into it it's a long episode
Although! To fit Cartoonverse lore it is a bit different from canon as usual, just to warn you!
DON'T READ THE EPISODES WITHOUT READING THE BOOKS!!
The submarine arrives in France, and the guests head back onto land, eagerly awaiting Logico’s long-awaited story conclusion.
LOGICO: The Bloody Assassin did not kill Beloved Butler Beryl. In fact, I doubt they were even real.
The people gasp!
LOGICO: I’ve delved into the past once more and did further research. I’ve noticed discrepancies in the texts. Lord Violet was not standing heroically with a sword, faced against the assassin - he was lying on a bed with only a bag as a weapon. Lady Violet was not a small child. She was a teenager. And yet, there was definitely the sword. I’ve seen the blood on it. And my final conclusion is…
Irratino arrives at the isles. Everything is in flames and completely destroyed. But he feels Logico still with him. He must have escaped.
IRRATINO: [out into the distance] LOGICO, I DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE, BUT I TRUST YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. AND I’M COMING, NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES! LOGICO: I’m afraid Beryl… killed himself.
There’s a gasp of shock from the crowd, and an air of sadness.
LOGICO: The poor fellow. No one deserves such a fate.
Lady Violet claws at her face. She can’t take it anymore!
VIOLET: No! That’s… you’re not right! LOGICO: I looked over the facts, and… VIOLET: You’re wrong, Logico. I was there. And I’ve been lying to you about everything!
Logico envisions the past! (aka a flashback)
VIOLET: My father was rescued by Beryl a long time ago.
The injured fawn Lord Violet collapses outside the dead forest. But a small figure approaches to help - it’s baby Beryl!
BERYL: LITTLE GUY! YOU’RE SO SMOL!
Violet kicks and tries to stand.
BERYL: ‘ERE DO YOU WANT A CUPCAKE?
Violet turns and looks at him. Beryl falls down in shock of his burnt face. But he still slowly offers a cupcake to the thing. Violet, weak, hobbles over and sniffs it, doubling over in surprise of the sweet scent. Beryl is very amused!
BERYL: YOU WILL BE CALLED VIOLET, BECAUSE YOU’RE PURPLE!!
It’s not like the baby deer can object. He follows the miniature muppet home.
VIOLET: Beryl was the original heir to this castle. But as they grew older, he gave the honor to my father. He was respected and feared by all. The Reds had no motives to murder him, and the Iron Tsar wasn’t even the one who killed him. He brought so much income to the war, killing him would mean killing a fortune. But someone else had the motive. LOGICO: … VIOLET: It was me! I had the motive! If my dad continued to support the Reds, all the money that was supposed to be mine would disappear.
Teenage Lady Violet tries to argue with her father, but she can’t. He can’t respond to anything, and chooses what he wants to listen to. He can completely ignore his daughter and no one can tell the difference.
VIOLET: I wish you were a real person instead of just some animal!
Lord Violet’s face is so empty and expressionless. Even though it’s impossible to tell, she can just feel that he does not care.
VIOLET: The problem was… he was still so much stronger than me. If he wanted to, he could kill me with ease. I needed backup. So I got Beryl.
VIOLET: Do you see how he treats you? This is not a friendship! He treats you like an animal! BERYL: WELL… I GUESS. BUT I DON’T WANT TO DO ANYTHING BAD. VIOLET: ‘Bad’ is subjective. Come on.
VIOLET: And I forced him to kill him… BERYL: NO! NO! NO! YOU CAN’T MAKE ME KILL HIM, HE’S MY BEST FRIEND!! VIOLET: He is NOT your best friend. He locks you in a CAGE. He hurts you EVERY SINGLE DAY! BERYL: BUT… I LOVE HIM! VIOLET: NO, YOU DON’T!!! You have the sword. He’s just a deer. It will take two seconds. BERYL: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
VIOLET: Beryl was bound by life to serve us. He had to do what I said.
Lord Violet is asleep. But the second Beryl is locked in, he jerks awake. The butler is full-body trembling, holding the sword he was given. Shutting his eyes tight, he makes a slight movement forward. Lord Violet leaps off the bed and thrusts the sword out of his hands with his horns, breaking it in two.
BERYL: [bawling] I DON’T WANT TO KILL YOU!!!!
So Lady Violet barges in and does the job for him.
VIOLET: We buried him under Beryl’s name. No one could know he had died. We were Lord Violet now.
They have to wear a disguise, an awkward two-person suit that looks like Lord Violet from a distance.
VIOLET: And we switched our sides and fought for the Iron Tsar. With his terrible cross-eyed vision, we could fool him easily. We thought…
The Iron Tsar can still spot a crucial detail, something they couldn’t incorporate into the disguise.
LOGICO: Lord Violet had one functioning eye… and it glowed red!
The pigeon shoots down the impostor. Lady Violet can escape. But Beryl, in front, is mortally wounded. When Major Red arrives, he can tear through him with the greatest of ease - because the costume, and Beryl’s body, are both made of fabric.
LOGICO: You… You are a horrible, horrible person… VIOLET: I KNOW. But THAT’S the answer you’ve all been waiting for. I did it! I killed my own father!
She falls to her knees and completely breaks down.
VIOLET: I killed… my own father…
And so, as it turns out, Lady Violet was the dark secret of the Violet Isles.
Irratino probably knew the whole time.
The end!
We love you beryl
And no one ever knew how Lady Violet became Lord Violet's daughter
The power of Goat Lord compels you!
See you next time murdlers!

Hi!! Do you think you could find some fics where Azira and Crowley raise the antichrist together? Or any child for that matter, just them raising a kid. Please and Thank you!!
Hello! We have some Crowley and Aziraphale raise the Antichrist fics here. And today I have some more mixed bag Crowley and Aziraphale raise a child fics...
Ground Control by nieded (T)
In which Crowley kidnaps the Antichrist as a baby--or so he thinks--and ends up with Warlock instead. Basically, I wanted a story where Warlock got a happy ending. Here it is.
Or: Aziraphale closes the shop earlier and earlier until they’re spending all day together, every moment. They take Warlock to the art museum and have a Star Trek marathon. Warlock loves The Next Generation but still reserves a special place in his heart for Spock from the original. He hangs a poster of the Vulcan next to David Bowie, his stern face in direct opposite to the cocked hip and flair of the rockstar. They go good together, though, the spacemen. If they lived a different life, Crowley thinks, he’d swoop Warlock up and take him to the stars. He’d show him Alpha Centauri, a system comprised of two large suns in orbit around each other, and a third circling them both.
That’s you, he’d say to Warlock, and the other is Aziraphale. He’d point to the two stars in the centre drawn to each other. And that’s me going around you both.
Crazy Ineffable Thing (Called Love) by TawnyOwl95 (E)
“You’ve lost the children!” “We’ve lost the children.” “The children have been lost.”
Pepper Galadriel Moonchild-Fell does not want to be sent to live with her distant, career driven mother. Adam Crowley does not want to be shipped off to military school by his slightly satanic grandmother.
They both think that their fathers should stop being idiots and fall in love already.
No one is going to listen to a pair of eleven year olds though. A plan is required.
A plan that will throw their fathers together on a high-stakes rescue mission where they will be forced into dangerous, intimate proximity. They must rise to occasions, overcome bullshit and, oh my god, there will only be one bed to do it in!
soldier, poet, king by RJam9 (T)
Eleven years ago, the Antichrist was born, set to bring upon the end of the world in due time. He was suppose to be delivered to the Order of the Chattering Nuns the night of his birth by the demon Crowley.
And that’s what happened. Well, what everyone thinks that happened.
In reality, Crowley snuck the baby home to a lovely little bookshop in Soho, where him and an angel by the name of Aziriphale lived. The couple decided that instead of letting the boy be raised by humans who didn’t understand his destiny, they would take over custody of him themselves.
That was eleven years ago. Now, the day of Adam C. Fells eleventh birthday is coming to, and with his parents and friends by his side, Adam hoped he could face his destiny and not let the world die, since he quite likes the Earth and doesn’t want it to end.
Well, expect for the fact there’s a lot of other players in this game running about, and thing don’t go exactly as planned. That’s alright, I guess. You’ve got to work with what you got.
(aka, another Aziraphale and Crowley raise Adam AU)
Bittersweet Genesis (or How to raise Antichrists, By A.Z. Fell and Anthony J. Crowley) by WeAreStarStuff (T)
Another Crowley and Aziraphale try to raise the Antichrist fic. Crowley has a change of heart and decided to take the Antichrist with him to see Aziraphale. Only problem? When he gets back to the hospital there’s another baby in the room. Oh well. Plan works just as well with two.
Second chances by ylc (T)
Crowley finds an abandoned newborn baby. Under other circumstances, he would have come to Aziraphale for help, but after a careless comment from the angel, their relationship isn’t at its best. The solution then, is quite clear: Look after the baby himself.
It takes heaven and hell to raise the Antichrist by dont_stop_imagine_mccartneys_celery (G)
If Good Omens was a Rom Com Sitcom!
In which Crowley stays just a little longer at the hospital of the Chattering Order of Saint Beryl and witnesses how the nuns misplace the Antichrist. He decides that he will take matters into his own hands and runs off again with the Antichrist, that is believed to be the exchanged baby of the American Cultural Attaché's wife. In lack of a better idea he brings the baby to his archenemy and dear friend Aziraphale and they agree they have no other choice than to raise the son of Satan themselves. That way they have the chance to let him grow up well-balanced between heaven and hell. Surprisingly, (for them, but really not the readers) the little extension of their family lets them only grow closer.

ALL THE OMENS
I keep seeing people confused / discovering one or several iterations of Good Omens, so here is a masterpost of everything Good Omens that officially exists (and that I could gather, so there might be mistakes):
WILLIAM THE ANTICHRIST (1987)
The original draft of what would later become Good Omens, written by Neil Gaiman before he teamed up with Terry Pratchett. It notably features a demon called Crawleigh who would then be split into Crowley and Aziraphale. The draft exists in a book form included in the Ineffable Edition of the illustrated Good Omens.
LINK TO A WTA RECAP (by @fuckyeahgoodomens)
BOOK (1990)
The core material of Good Omens, written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Exists also as an audiobook read by Stephen Briggs (for the English speaking crowd of course). There is also some audio of David Tennant reading part of the book during the recording of Playing in the Dark: Neil Gaiman and the BBC Symphony Orchestra in November 2019. LINK TO DAVID TENNANT’S READING (by @merinathropp) @good-omens-covers is a blog where you can have a look at book covers from accross the world
MOVIE SCRIPT (1992)
The script for an aborted movie project. Attempts to write a movie script were made by both Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, but this is the one Gaiman ended up tackling on his own after Pratchett wisely decided to step away. The conflicted requests from the producers lead the way to a story that was related to Good Omens only in name. The movie script is only available in few numbers on specialized websites for a very high price.
THEATRE PLAY (2013)
An adaptation by Amy Hoff made with the permission of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, that was played by the Cult Classic Theatre for the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. As far as I know, no footage or script is available anywhere. I know nothing about this play besides the fact that Crowley looks wild. Amy Hoff’s website mentions that GO is currently unavailable for stage production or adaptation. LINK TO THE (BROKEN) PAGE OF THE THEATRE PLAY LINK TO A PHOTO GALLERY OF THE PLAY
RADIO DRAMA (2014)
An audio adaptation originally broadcasted on BBC4 in 6 episodes, adapted by Dirk Maggs and directed by Dirk Maggs and Heather Larmour. It is however available in an 8 episodes longer format (including bloopers) on CDs and such. The cast includes, notably, Peter Serafinowicz as Crowley, Mark Heap as Aziraphale, Josie Lawrence as Agnes Nutter, and a cameo from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
LINK TO THE BBC4 PAGE FOR THE GOOD OMENS RADIO DRAMA LINK TO AN IMAGES GALLERY
TV SERIES (2019)
A six episodes long TV series, produced by the BBC and Amazon, that premiered on Amazon Prime in June 2019. Directed by Douglas Mackinnon. The script was written entirely by Neil Gaiman as the whole project was the achievement of years of struggle trying to get a video adaptation of GO, and as promised by Neil Gaimand to the late Terry Pratchett that this would get done.
The cast still includes Josie Lawrence as Agnes Nutter, David Tennant as Crowley, Michael Sheen as Aziraphale, and many other talented actors and actresses that would be too long to list here but are worth watching.
As derivative products coming out of the making of the TV series, the script book of the entire show (including cut scenes that were never shot) is available, as well as some storyboards that depict, without a doubt, the least expected looks for Crowley and Aziraphale. The TV series is available for streaming on Amazon Prime, in DVD and in BluRay. The soundtrack composed by David Arnold can be found in CDs, vinyls and mp3 sets. Additionally, there is a TV Companion book for behind the scenes and interviews that can be purchased, and very few official goodies such as enamel pins, and, of course, the very necessary Good Omens Nail Polish. A Q and A with Neil Gaiman and David Tennant is also available on Amazon Prime, broadcasted live and recorded in May 2020. In 2017, Neil Gaiman made a reading of cutscenes in Austin, Texas, for the Long Center event.

THE LOCKDOWN VIDEO (2020)
As a direct result of the TV series (and a direct result of a worldwide pandemic and a several months long lockdown...), Neil Gaiman wrote a little script for a short video that is, actually, mainly audio, in which David Tennant and Michael Sheen reprised their roles as Crowley and Aziraphale.

MUSICAL (still in developpement as far as I know on this date in June 2020)
An Australia based project that has been years in the making, developped by Vicki Larnach and Jim Hare. So far, what has been officially released on the internet are a few videos of a reading by the actors, a sizzle reel with footage and audio of several moments from the show, as well as promotional pictures. The musical has been played on stage in front of an audience a few times these past two years in a version that is probably rather close to what the end product will be, and hopefully, once the final version exists, it will be made available for the widest audience possible.

OTHERS THINGS THAT ARE (AND THINGS THAT AREN’T)
668—The Neighbour of the Beast AKA the sequel that doesn’t exist. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett talked about writing a sequel to Good Omens, came up with a few things (the most infamous being Aziraphale watching a porno in a hotel room, but only catching glimpses of it and trying to figure out the plot by writting it down in a notebook), but it was never written. LINK TO AN INTERVIEW GIVEN TO THE LOCUS IN 1991 MENTIONING THIS SEQUEL LINK TO A POST ON GAIMAN’S BLOG MENTIONING THE PORNOGRAPHY BIT LINK TO A RECAP OF THE SEQUEL + COTTAGE THING The movie directed by Terry Gilliam Before GO became a TV series, it got stuck for years as a movie project meant to be directed by Terry Gilliam. For various reasons it never happened, and the rumors about Robin Williams being cast as Aziraphale and Johnny Depp as Crowley seem to have started from there. The cottage “canon” The widespread concept of Crowley and Aziraphale sharing a cottage originated from a blog post made by Neil Gaiman, reporting a conversation between him and Terry Pratchett regarding the whereabouts of their characters. Gaiman has since offered the precision that this cottage sharing thing would happen way after the events of the sequel that was never written, so years after Armageddon, and that the location would be Devil’s Dyke in the South Downs. LINK TO THE ORIGINAL POST ON GAIMAN’S BLOG LINK TO A COMPREHENSIVE EXPLANATION (by @irisbleufic) LINK TO A TUMBLR ASK FOR GAIMAN ABOUT THE SOUTH DOWNS LINK TO A SCREENSHOT OF A TWEET BY GAIMAN The New Year Resolutions List (made for Harper Collins, now taken down from their website) A list of resolutions written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett on request of the publisher in 2005, one list for Crowley, one list for Aziraphale. LINK TO THE LIST ( by @ladylier )
LINK TO AN INTERVIEW WHERE NEIL GAIMAN TALKS ABOUT A FEW OF THE THINGS MENTIONNED IN THIS POST And as an ultimate bonus, as I was gathering all the informations for this masterpost, I found back Michael Sheen’s Spotify Good Omens Playlist. EDIT (02/08/2020): Someone mentionned (in a post I can’t find anymore ?) that on the list of existing merch that was absolutely unexpected, there was a whole collection of Good Omens perfume oils. It was made around 2007 with the approval of Pratchett and Gaiman and was apparently updated when the series came out in 2019. The profits of the oils go to different charities.
I was also reminded of the Chattering Order of Saint Beryl, a group of singers promoting the TV series before its release in 2019. Their Youtube Channel has a playlist that was last updated in June 2020. There is one video clip of the song Brand New Baby Smell that features a cameo by Neil Gaiman. And I found back @fuckyeahgoodomens‘s masterpost about the merch, even though I mentionned most of these in this masterpost, I’ll include the link for convenience sake.

If I decide to go with Beryl( aka Jewel) and Kenji being siblings, the story would be like this:
Their mom, who will be referred to as Ms. Hino, was pregnant with Beryl in her early 20's, with the father being her boyfriend. Unlike only child! Kenji, the father actually stays long enough for Kenji to be born. During that time, due to faniniacal instability, the father suggest the two work for Team Rocket to get some cash. ( It would be good to mention that the man wasn't a good father when Beryl was born, as he was mostly absent and neglectful). By the time Kenji was born, he dipped( both his family and Team Rocket), leaving Ms. Hino with 2 kids and being affiliated with a crime organization. Not great ( not the two kids part, the crime part). Somewhere a long the line, she meets professor elm, who helps her get on her feet and give her a place to stay as she distances herself from TR ( that's when baby Kenji met baby Aiko :3). The rest is history ( though note I said distance herself from Team Rocket, not quit...)
Now I have three options:
Only Child! Kenji with Aiko and Beryl being siblings + older siblings to their younger sibling( current canon)
Kenji and Beryl being only children were Aiko has her younger sibling
Kenji and Beryl being siblings and Aiko being the older sister to their younger sibling.
All of these could work and wouldn't change much in how I want to rewrite HGSS. The main difference is character arcs and interactions.

Here are some great bottom Louis fics that were posted or completed during the month of February. We really hope you enjoy this list. Happy reading!
1) Just A Little Taste Babe | Explicit | 1866 words
Note: There is no smut where someone bottoms in this fic, but it contains omega Louis, so we’ve included it in this monthly roundup.
"Louis' thin petal pink lips strained to stay stretched open, his teeth grazing the beryl ball-gag that sat heavy against his tongue. His jaw was already starting to ache but he willed himself to focus on something else, anything else as a distraction. Like the heat that was surging through him, settling in the pit of his stomach and the apples of his cheeks which were no doubt flushed a pretty shade of rose. "
2) This Here City Is For The Lonely Ones | Explicit | 2640 words
This is Harry’s favourite part. When Louis gets so blinded by the pleasure that he doesn’t think about what he should or should not be saying or doing, and just feels.Featuring: an insecure Louis and gentle dom Harry.
3) Who Let Louis Tomlinson Play Truth or Dare? | Not Rated | 2641 words
When Louis is dared to give one Harry Styles a lap dance at a frat party it doesn't take long for things to get dirty.
4) A Swallow Mates For Life | Mature | 4394 words
Louis is a young omega who just joined the workforce. When he meets his new boss, he doesn't know what to think. Work is definitely different than he thought it would be when he can't get over this little crush on his boss.
5) Always Coming Back For You | Explicit | 4729 words
Harry's been missing Louis for eight days, and eight days without his Omega feels like decades in his pre-rut state.
Louis happens to come back to him earlier than planned.
6) Wishing To Be The Friction In Your Jeans | Mature | 5023 words
Louis and Harry are both in love with each other. Both are completely oblivious to the fact that they like each other but decide to confide in Gemma. It takes a lot to get them to finally just speak to each other about how they feel.
7) Fellowship Of Eroda | Explicit | 5367 words
“Join our DnD game,” Niall had said.“It’ll be fun,” Liam had said.Neither of them had thought about the fact their DM was Harry Fucking Styles. Though in fairness they didn’t know the full history behind him and Harry Fucking Styles.aka Louis may have had a four night stand with Harry and now he's stuck in a DND campaign with him.
8) Your Sex Is On Fire | Explicit | 6402 words
Louis moves in with a roommate as he starts uni. Harry, the roommate, is a lot more to deal with than he originally realized.AKA Harry is a nudist and Louis' a closeted gay man.
9) I’ll Light The Fire | Explicit | 7574 words
“Alright, baby, we can do that next time, okay?” Harry says, trying to hide the smile in his voice and moving between Louis’ spread thighs. Harry wishes he had his camera handy so he could snap a photo of the vision in front of him; the way Louis’ caramel skin is contrasting with the white sheets, his eyelashes fanning over his cheeks, and the sun rays bouncing off his back. Fucking gorgeous. Harry runs his hands up the length of Louis’ legs, digging his thumbs into the soft skin on the innermost part of his thighs. He makes a mental note to move his polaroid within arms reach of their bed.
“I might change my mind, that sounds like a lot of wor-, oh god,” Louis gets cut off as Harry licks a broad stripe up his taint to his hole, practically purring into the pillow.
AKA Prompt 173: Harry wants to rim louis in the morning when the sun is rising so they do and louis’ all sleepy soft and whiny but pliant in the golden sunlight and the whole thing is really sweet and soft and lovely.
10) Bloodletting (Dancing Out In The Garden) | Explicit | 10010 words
The ticklish sensation of that small tongue lapping up the blood makes Harry squirm in place, and he breaks their eye contact to glance down at the place where their bodies meet. The boy closes his eyes, his eyelashes brushing against the soft skin of his cheeks. Then, he opens his mouth, his unnaturally sharp canines glinting slightly in the warm light, and bites down on Harry’s arm.
11) Better Than Words | Explicit | 11321 words
Note: This fic is the second part of a series.
Harry and Louis have an argument while at the doctors to check on their baby. Then they celebrate Harry's birthday and Valentine's Day in their own way.
12) Shine | Explicit | 13366 words
“How does it feel?” Harry asks, genuine curiosity evident in his voice. Louis lets his eyes drift closed and focuses on the sensations. “It’s like… like I’ve got hands all over me, touching me, inside and out, and…” Louis tries to zone in but it’s so hard to describe. “It’s like I’m being stimulated everywhere all at once.” As if on cue, his nipples and earlobes start tingling and he arches his back. “Oh fuck, yeah.”OR the one where Louis has a thing for the sun and Harry is more than happy to indulge his sunshine boy.
13) You’re My Little Sparkle Jump-Rope Queen | Not Rated | 14620 words
Note: This fic is the second part of a series.
"Daddy?" Louis whispers, cheeks flaming, and Harry chuckles deeply."Yeah, kitten. I see you're dressed up all pretty but apparently it's not for me but for some strangers on the internet." The man is stepping closer with a predatory look on his face.-Louis still is a slutty little camboy and Harry fucks him again.
14) It Is What It Is | Mature | 36686 words
"Um can I have a Heineken zero please" said a deep sexy voice that made goosebumps of erupt on my skin instantly. I looked over to see the most drop dead gorgeous human being to ever grace the planet, standing 1 meter away from me. Soft chocolate curls styled in a quiff, deep forest green eyes, smooth olive skin decorated in a multitude of various tattoos and his lips ...... Jesus Christ his lips.
15) What's Mine Is Yours To Make Your Own | Mature | 39919 words
Sometimes, the closest harry ever feels to home is louis. it's their shared hotel rooms on tour, their shoes toed off in the doorway next to each other, jackets hung on the same post.it's everything he doesn't notice until it's been taken away from him.
16) Be My Omega | Mature | 138274 words
It all started when the alpha laid eyes on the short curvy omega and he knew at that moment that his life would never be the same, in a good way of course.
Check out our other fic rec lists by category here and by title here.

hnk characters as stuff I see while stargazing
I’m still taking a break from this series, but this particular shitpost has been sitting pretty on my hard drive for a few months now, and people seemed to like birdseki no kuni, so I think I shall publish it. For the sake of my stress levels, please avoid posting spoilers in the tags.
Phosphophyllite:

Eta Carinae. Can’t decide whether to be one of the brightest stars in the sky, or completely invisible to the naked eye. Covered in dark clouds. A mess. About two minutes from going supernova.
Antarcticite:

The Perseid meteor shower. Really cool, but you only have like half a month to get to know it before it’s gone.
Cinnabar:

Lunar eclipse. Red, edgy, and emo; makes a statement.
Cairngorm:

Shaula and Lesath, aka the Cat’s Eyes asterism in Scorpius. Stares at you with disapproval bordering on contempt.
Padparadscha:

Venus. Bright and beautiful. Light of my life. But it’s only up for a few hours at a time
Ghost Quartz:

The Milky Way. Reticent and shy. Always there, but only visible in ideal lighting conditions. Quite pleasant when it decides to show itself
Diamond:

Canopus. Flashy… But only second best!
Kongou:
Polaris. Everything revolves around him whether he wants it to or not.
Rutile:

Cetus. Oh god, it’s going to eat me!
Yellow Diamond:

Virgo. Just wants to lie down and take a nap.
Bort:

Orion. Swole and overbearing. Always waving a weapon around.
Lapis Lazuli:

Hale-Bopp. you missed it because you were three years old when it passed by. The Gen Xers in your local amateur astronomy club talk about what a profound impact it had on their lives, but you’ve never seen it, and you never will. You are quietly bitter about this.
Alexandrite:
Auriga. Both have goblin energy—Alex because they are a turbo nerd, Auriga because it looks like a garden gnome.
Amethyst:

Mizar and Alcor. Baby’s first binary stars.
Euclase:

Summer Triangle. Always watching over you, (unless it’s winter.) It’s up to you to decide whether or not this is a good thing.
Jade:

Big Dipper. Basic.
Benitoite:

Cassiopeia. Also basic, but less stands out much less.
Neptunite:

Lynx. Hard to see. Skulks around showing only its back. What is it up to? What is it thinking about? You’ll never know.
Zircon:

Canis Minor. Small and has no money, so you can imagine the kind of stress it’s under. Follows Orion around.
Red Beryl:

Corona Borealis. Elegant and fashionable.
Ventricosus:

Arcturus. This star holds a special place in my heart for being the first non-basic star I identified without the help of a chart, at the tender age of eleven. Ventricosus also holds a special place in my heart because she’s great.
Variegatus:

Pleiades. A breath of fresh air when you’re feeling down, just like chapter fifty one.
Barbata:

Lepus. Lowkey, but pretty likable.
Cicada:

Delphinus. Very cute. Shaped like a friend.
Aechmea:

Full moon. A nuisance that makes stargazing more difficult. You wish it would just go away but it has a knack for showing up in every chapter.
T R A G I C E N D I N G:

The Andromeda Galaxy. Not quite here yet, but careening towards us at 68 miles per second.

The HnK rocks as pasta
aka my greatest contribution to the fandom yet. tag yourselves
Padparadscha

bucatini. sexy. suave. the best thing since sliced bread. way better than sliced bread actually. tragically hard to eat. like spaghetti but with a hole in the middle for surprise splashes of sauce and tragic comparisons with a certain rock
Watermelon tourmaline

ravioli. creative and cute, lots of possibilities. hides its true power inside
Phosphophyllite

gnocchi. round. cute. SOFT. a baby. an actual baby. must protecc.
Cairngorm

mac and cheese. problem child, italy hates it but the rest of the world thinks it’s legit pasta. trying to fit in, currently failing
Yellow Diamond

stelline. a metaphor for tears. tastes like grandma’s cooking and crushing disappointment. each star represents a different hope you lost as you grew older. smile and eat another spoonful
Alexandrite

spaghetti. traveled the world, ambassador of the italian culture. knows many things. too many things. hides trauma about being sold in tins under layers of sauce. lanky
Euclase

ditalini. cute, right? harmless, thats why you bought it. it was a stormy winter night and ditalini was the only pasta to welcome your frozen ass back home. you thought you still had some spaghetti left, but maybe you were wrong. you’re thankful, but not thankful enough. you buy new pasta. you never get to eat it. each time you open your pantry, ditalini is all you can find. you haven’t even bought ditalini in months. since winter started. when did winter start, exactly? it’s still cold, it’s been 6 months and it’s still winter. what’s happening to you? to time? to your pantry? you steal a glance at ditalini, looking for answers. the bag of ditalini smiles at you. this is okay.
Lapis

candele. Feeds on chaos. looks stylish but secretly evil, never eat this pasta. no seriously. there’s no proper way to eat it, you can only break it in smaller pieces and it’s gonna be a mess in any case. also it’s super good so it’ll trick you into buying more
Bort

maccheroni. the perfect pasta, squared and practical, goes well with just about everything. regularly looks down on other pasta. You’re all unworthy
Diamond

farfalle. frilly and fresh. trust issues. looks cute but actually hard to cook. kind of underwhelming once you’ve had it a few times and farfalle knows. secretly wants to become maccheroni
Zircon

penne. versatile, great with kids and with simple sauces. trying its best but hides behind maccheroni’s shadow
Cinnabar

filindeu. traditional forgotten pasta that only 3 grannies in a forgotten village in a forgotten region of sardinia still know how to make. looks intimidating, turns into literal soup. extremely edgy, hasn’t spoken to any other pasta in 2000 years.
Amethysts

gemelli. twisted and kind of creepy. spin it in your hands. keep spinning it. it’s like Archimedes’ screw. spin it again, slowly. it’s an endless loop. it’s fascinating. you can’t stop staring. your consciousness is gradually leaving your body, soon you’ll be free of this physical shell. soon.
Obsidian

lasagna. yeah yeah, the melted cheese looks like lava and obsidian is a volcanic glass. but also. is this pasta? is this a category in itself? how powerful is it exactly? and is obsidian a gem? a lunarian spy?? we may never know
Rutile

linguine. elegant and stylish. will slip away from your fork and from the conversation with a sassy remark. has a weird thing going on with bucatini but if you mention it, linguine will impale everyone in the room and then itself
Benito

fusilli. extremely underrated. 80% or the reason is because people are still fighting about what, exactly, classifies as fusilli. but you don’t need a dictionary to appreciate its uncomplicated goodness. someday y’all gonna run out of maccheroni and who’ll come to your rescue? who?? respect fusilli.
Jade

tortellini. on good terms with everyone in the family. a little shy, tends to take itself too seriously. full of good intentions and very, very soft
Ghost Quartz

maccheroncini. mac ‘n cheese’s unproblematic sibling. no cheese, only mac. not so secretly empty inside
Red Beryl

reginette. swirly and creative. arguably the most stylish pasta around. looks like elegant ribbons and is not afraid to call you out on your horrible fashion choices. it’s not wrong though, where did you even find those socks?
Antarcticite

quadrucci. look at it. just look. isn’t it adorable? cute, tiny squares of regular size, arithmetic never looked so comforting. Good and unproblematic, only here to dispense your soup with love and understanding. Perfect for winter
Admirabilis

conchiglie. it literally means seashells. i know. i was running out of ideas. comes in different sizes and levels of pretentiousness, can probably speak latin
Aechmea

ruote. wth. wth?? look at that, look at that it’s all weird. this is not pasta. everyone hates this. take this weird thing away from me
#houseki no kuni#land of the lustrous#this is my most cursed post so far#im sorry this isnt everyone there're just too many characters#mobile users pls dont hate me i know this is a lot of pics#best

Warrior Nuns Through TV History
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
TV nunning is a broad church. Sometimes, it’s all gunfire, demon-dissolving punches and running through walls, as in Netflix’s latest comic book adaptation Warrior Nun. In that show, a mystical artifact gives a non-believing teen superpowers passed down the generations from holy sister to holy sister. Defeat the demons, protect the world, praise the Lord, and so on.
Other fictional TV nuns lead quieter, more cake-focused lives, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t also fighters. You might say that like superheroes, not all warrior nuns wear capes. You’d be wrong – nuns definitely wear capes. They’re called mantles and though roomy and practical, likely represent a significant time commitment with regard to ironing.
Warrior Nun‘s superpowered teen follows in the echoey footsteps of a whole conventful of fictional TV nuns remembered here – some good, some bad, some inordinately fond of biscuits, but all, in their own way, warriors.
Sister Mary Loquacious in Good Omens (2019)
Played by: Nina Sosanya
Allegiance: Satanic nuns of the Chattering Order of St Beryl
Warrior level: Novice
Weapon of choice: Infantilising baby talk of hoofikins and widdle demonic tails
Specialism: Biscuits with pink icing
Most likely to say: ‘Fancy me holding the Antichrist! Counting his little toesy-woesies!’
Getting into heaven? Absolutely not
Demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale may have been Good Omens’ major players, but Sister Mary Loquacious kicked off the whole mess by accidentally confusing the infant Adversary, Destroyer of Kings, Angel of the Bottomless Pit, Prince of this World and Lord of Darkness with the human child of a couple from the Oxfordshire village of Tadfield. Easily done.
Sister Agatha in Dracula (2020)
Played by: Dolly Wells
Allegiance: The Army of the Faithful, St Mary’s Convent of Budapest
Warrior level: Intellectually? Top Tier. She’s Dracula’s ‘every nightmare at once: an educated woman in a crucifix’
Weapon of choice: Wooden stakes and double-barrel wit
Specialism: Scientific rigour and one-liners
Most likely to say: ‘A house of God is it? Well that’s good, we could do with a man about the place, eh sister?’
Getting into heaven? Ja, if she cared to grace it with her presence.
Unfazed, brave, funny and intellectually curious, Dutch-born Agatha put both her faith and folklore to the test when she took on Count Dracula, meticulously gathering research on his powers and learning the rules of the beast to try to use them against him. A true scientist and quite a woman.
Sister Michael in Derry Girls (2018)
Played by: Siobhan McSweeney
Allegiance: Our Lady Immaculate College/Rawhide
Warrior level: Untested in battle but doubtless lethal
Weapon of choice: Apathy, withering sarcasm and eye-rolls
Specialism: Judo (on Fridays)
Most likely to say: ‘Sweet suffering Jehovah’
Getting into heaven? I wouldn’t be the one to stop her.
You won’t find an ounce of sentiment beneath this wimple, Sister Michael’s dry disdain for the pupils at Our Lady Immaculate is expressed only through cutting remarks and declarations of boredom. Not a fan of priests, the French, love songs or… most things, she’s an authority figure for the Derry Girls. Every so often though, like when she turned a blind eye to Erin and co. distributing their banned lesbianism-focused edition of the school magazine, she’ll surprise you.
Sister Jane Ingalls in Orange is the New Black (2013)
Played by: Beth Fowler
Allegiance: Catholicism
Warrior level: Basically nil as she’s a committed pacifist, though she does punch Gloria in the mouth at one point for PR
Weapon of choice: Civil disobedience and the Good Book
Specialism: Activism
Most likely to say: ‘I was afraid nunning was going to be boring!’
Getting into heaven? Sure
As a young novice in the 1960s, Ingalls fell in with the bad nuns and got a taste for non-violent activism. A bunch of protests and a memoir later (full points for the title: Nun Shall Pass), and the church didn’t want anything to do with her, neglecting to cover her legal fees after she handcuffed herself to a nuclear facility, landing her in Litchfield.
Sister Harriet in Hunters (2019)
Played by: Kate Mulvany
Allegiance: Anti-Nazi, Pro-Quip
Warrior level: Top level. A highly capable operative.
Weapon of choice: Gun, blowtorch, you name it
Specialism: Threats of extreme violence delivered in the voice of a Downton Abbey marchioness.
Most likely to say: ‘I will set you aflame, child’
Getting into heaven? There’s some intrigue as to her real deal but she certainly seems to be on the right side of history.
This MI6 agent/Nazi-hunting nun from Amazon Prime’s Hunters is something of a Scary Poppins. She does an excellent line in death threats and action-movie quips. She’s deadly, has a shady backstory, speaks in a cut-glass English accent and is fond of biscuits. In other words: our kind of nun.
Matron Casp in Doctor Who ‘New Earth’ (2006)
Played by: Doña Croll
Allegiance: Sisters of Plenitude
Warrior level: Merciless eugenicist
Weapon of choice: Cat claws and science
Specialism: Incinerating conscious and begging-for-help human cloning experiments without a spark of fellow-feeling.
Most likely to say: ‘Who needs arms when we have claws’
Getting into heaven? Nah. Space prison more like.
The Sisters of Plenitude, healers on New Earth, may have called their work ‘the tender application of science’ but ‘the incredibly painful application of bastard cruelty’ better sums up their human cloning farm. This order takes a lifelong vow to help and mend, but clearly not to do no harm. And their hospital doesn’t even have a shop.
Abbess Hild in The Last Kingdom (2015-)
Played by: Eva Birthistle
Allegiance: Uhtred of Bebbanburg/the Lord
Warrior level: Advanced (but retired)
Weapon of choice: Dagger
Specialism: Throwing buckets of cold water on a sleeping Uhtred and sawing through the necks of dead Danes
Most likely to say: ‘I have killed, and I will kill again I’m sure, but hopefully not today’
Getting into heaven? Big yes.
Hild’s journey in The Last Kingdom took her from nun to warrior and back again. Rescued from attack by Uhtred, Leofric and Yseult, she swore to become a fighter and more-than earned the title. Eventually, her vocation called her back to the church, where she now remains as the Abbess with whom you don’t mess.
Sister Jude in American Horror Story: Asylum
Played by: Jessica Lange
Allegiance: Catholicism and the teachings of Monseigneur Timothy Howard
Warrior level: Complicated
Weapon of choice: Forced commitment to an insane asylum,
Specialism: Guilt
Most likely to say: ‘All monsters are human’
Getting into heaven? Bad things happened under her watch but she does try to atone
The head of Briarcliff, an institution for the criminally insane, Sister Jude is a complex character with a complicated trajectory. She mistreats, but is also also gravely mistreated.
Sister Monica Joan in Call the Midwife (2012-)
Played by: Judy Parfitt
Allegiance: Raymond Nonnatus, patron saint of childbirth
Warrior level: Yoda
Weapon of choice: Forceps and fey literary quotation
Specialism: Sniffing out and emptying hidden cake tins
Most likely to say: ‘My first responsibility is to ensure the consumption of this cake’
Getting into heaven? Hundo P
AKA the best Call The Midwife nun, and an OG resident of Nonnatus House ever since the BBC One series began. Owing to her advanced years and developing dementia, Sister Monica Joan is now retired from midwifery, but in her prime there wasn’t a birth canal in Poplar that hadn’t welcomed her up to the elbow. She’s highly educated and extremely well-read with an instinctive love of beauty, poetry, cake and Doctor Who, which makes her the patron saint of all our hearts.
Sister Sybil in Camelot (2011)
Played by: Sinéad Cusack
Allegiance: Shady but ultimately loyal to Morgan
Warrior level: Witch
Weapon of choice: Dark magicks
Specialism: Child sacrifice?
Getting into heaven? Nah.
When Uther Pendragon banished his daughter Morgan in Chris Chibnall’s 2011 Camelot, she was raised in a nunnery by a sister who was no stranger to the dark arts. When Morgan (played by Eva Green) returned to claim her birthright, Sister Sybil was the one whispering poison in her ear and teaching her how to channel her powers.
Sister Bertrille in The Flying Nun (1967)
Played by: Sally Field
Allegiance: El Convento San Tanco in San Juan
Warrior level: Negligible
Weapon of choice: Not so much a weapon, but her flight-enabling cornette was the big thing.
Specialism: As the title suggests, flight
Most likely to say: ‘When lift plus thrust is greater than load plus drag, anything can fly.’
Getting into heaven? Si señor.
A creation of Tere Ríos’ book The Fifteenth Pelican, Sister Bertrille was the fresh-faced nun-next-door whose cornette combined with the Puerto Rico coastal winds allowed her to fly in the 1960s TV series. According to Sally Field’s excellent memoir In Pieces, the whole experience was more drag than take-off.
Miss Clavel in Madeline (1988-2001)
Voiced by: Judith Orban & various
Allegiance: An old house in Paris/the Catholic church
Warrior level: more sentry than prize fighter
Weapon of choice: Education! (Read: day trips to the circus)
Specialism: Waking up in the middle of the night with a nagging sense that something’s off kilter with her young schoolgirl charges, then singing a song about it.
Most likely to say: ‘Vite, vite mes petits’
Getting into heaven? Mais oui
The headteacher at Madeline’s Parisian boarding school in the Ludwig Bemelmans’ books and their various TV and film adaptations, Miss Clavel is a kindly sort. She gives her young boarding school pupils warm moral instruction and generally manages to extract Madeline from the mouth of whatever tiger she’s crawled inside that week. Not ferocious, as warriors go, but kind and dependable.
Septa Unella in Game of Thrones (2015)
Played by: Hannah Waddingham
Allegiance: The Faith of the Seven
Warrior level: High Bastard
Weapon of choice: Wooden spoon and ignominy
Specialism: Torture and bell-ringing.
Most likely to say: ‘Confess!’
Getting into heaven? Not in one piece she won’t after what Cersei did to her
The Geneva Convention didn’t reach the Seven Kingdoms. If it had, then the supposedly holy Septa Unella wouldn’t have beaten Cersei Lannister with a water ladle and made her drink from the floor like a dog before parading her naked to jeering crowds around the city. Not a nun to mess with, unless you’re a Lannister.
Also-Nuns
Sister Assumpta in Father Ted (1995)
Sister Boniface in Father Brown (2013)
(Briefly) Olive in Pushing Daisies (2007)
Mother Superior in Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005)
Kassia the Byzantine nun in Vikings (2019)
Warrior Nun is available to stream now on Netflix.

MY MEMORIES OF JOHANNESBURG - City of GOLD.
article published 4 Feb 2009. Written and compiled by Anne Lapedus Brest.

MEMORIES OF JOHANNESBURG, CITY OF GOLD
Written and Compiled By
© ANNE LAPEDUS BREST
On the 4th February 1961, when I was 14 years old, and my brother Robert was 11, our family came to live in Johannesburg.
We had left Ireland, land of our birth, leaving behind our beloved Grandparents, family, friends, and a very special and never-to-be-forgotten little furry friend, to start a new life in South Africa, land of Sunshine and Golden opportunity…………… The Goldeneh Medina…...
We came out on the “Edinburgh Castle”, arriving Cape Town 2nd Feb 1961. We did a day tour of Chapmans Peak Drive, Muizenberg, went to somewhere called the “Red Sails” and visited our Sakinofsky/Yodaiken family in Tamboerskloof.
We arrived at Park Station (4th Feb 1961), Jhb, hot and dishevelled after a nightmarish train ride, breaking down in De Aar and dying of heat.
We lived in Becker Street, Yeoville, Robert went to K.E.S and I went to Barnato Park (aka Johannesburg Girls’ High) in Berea. Robert was in Cadets , I played hockey, and bunked school (with Gilda Goldblatt!!) Our next-door neighbours were Michael and Sandra Golding, Zena and Teddy Cohen lived in Becker Street also and Ronnie and Nigel Baskin lived in Yeo Street near the Richters - Selma and Charles Richter,.
Girls at Barnato Park lived in mainly Hillbrow, Berea, Yeoville, Bellevue, Houghton, Orchards, Melrose and Dunkeld. After school, many of us would catch the 19 bus from Tudhope Avenue Berea to Raleigh Street, Yeoville, but many girls were collected by beautifully coiffed and bee-hived mothers with long painted nails, arriving to collect them in huge fancy Chevrolets, with big cats’ eye tail-lights.
ONLY IN SOUTH AFRICA …………………………….
Oy, but I had to get used to so many new expressions ……..
“ See you this arvy, Hey? “ and “See you just now, Annie” (I learnt the hard way that “Just Now” didn’t mean immediately)
“There’s the new girl in Form 3, …….. Shame!!” “My sister’s baby is so cute, …… Shame!
People would give me directions and tell me to turn at the robot.
Can I Lend your book?
Whatever I said, the girls would answer “Is it” ?
The shul is full of KUGELS……………….
Why did the bus-conductor call us all “Donkey” when he collected our tickets???? “Thank you,… Donkey” and the Klippies would say it in a high-pitched voice. “Thank you, donkeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyy”
You MUST come visit this arvy, see? You MUST go and see Cliff Richard at the Collosseum. You MUST buy the latest Elvis Presley record. MUST, MUST, MUST (only in South Africa! Say that “MUST” to people overseas, they think you are a control-freak). (took me a while to get used to it!!)
G.C. EMMMMM
Girls would talk about great talent at a party, and they talked about Chracks , boys talked about “good stock” .
It’s a blerry gemors!! Stoep. Goeie Môre , Lekker Bly,
My skat. Klop Dissel Boom gaan! Klappies. Lappies.

Well, yes , no fine, Those were the days my friend we thought they’d never end …...
SUBURBS
In those days a majority of the Jewish community seemed to be living in Hillbrow, Berea, Bellevue, Yeoville , Cyrildene, Observatory, Dewetshof, Judith’s Paarl, Highlands North, Houghton, Dunkeld, Melrose, Hyde Park.
Suburbs where a lot of Jews also lived were Kensington, Emmarentia, Greenside, Doornfontein, Mayfair. Remember Fordsburg (Fitas). Also a Jewish area once upon a time.
Robert and I went to Yeoville Chader (The Bernard Patley), - Mr. SHATCHAN was the headmaster, and teachers I remember were Miss AARONS (Bella Golubchick) , Mr. Solly GOLDBERG, Rev. HIMMELSTEIN, and the Shammas was a Mr. CHAZEN (His daughters, Gertie and Hannah both went to Barnato park) and Mrs. MAGID

I found it hard to make friends, but I eventually palled up with Gilda Goldblatt (now Galvad) , (daughter of Leslie (Z”l) and Mona Voloshen Goldblatt (O”h), from Webb Street. Leslie (Z”l) was a Choirester in Wolmarans Street Shul) and Gilda and I have remained friends to this day.

And Observatory café where boys played pinball and they had ‘Pennyline Sweets’ where you could buy 2 for a penny and cafés had Jukeboxes . Remember the old 78 records (those were in the fifties though) and then the LPs - wow, and when those came out we thought we’d died and gone to Heaven, and the 45 speed records. Cassettes, and tape recorders, reel-to-reel tape-recorders (I still have one).
Boys had a way of walking, hands in pockets, only the thumbs visable and rolled from side to side with a sort of rolling gait, and the more they rolled as they walked, the more macho they felt!
Who remembers ????…… Debras (Schmaltz), and when a tub of Yoghurt cost 8c, and an Appleltizer cost the same, a bar of Cadburys chocolate cost 5c and there was a chocolate bar called “Honeycrisp” also for 5c, and you could get a Toasted Cheese for 15c. Stamps cost 2½ cents . If you left the envelope open, it was cheaper… Airletter forms in green, airmail writing paper, airmail envelopes and Basildon Bond writing paper.
STREETS in Yeoville/ Bellevue, - Raleigh St, Rockey St, Bezuidenhout St., Isipingo St., Raymond St , Hopkins St, Yeo St, Kenmere Rd, Fortèsque Rd, Becker St, Cavendish Rd, Bedford Rd, Webb St, Natal St, Isipingo, St. Georges Rd, Ellis St.,
YEOVILLE BOXING CLUB - Sammy Samson and his son Cedric who sang as a child, and he had a group at some stage called “the FireFlies” I think Alan Goldstein who was also a child singer may well have been part of that band ( later known as Alan Gold) .
How many people remember……. The Black Steer in Yeoville - fab apple crumble and double thick cream and in the 1960s the price of a Steerburger, with Pickled Cucumber, fried onions and salad was 45c ……….but at the Golden Spur, the Burger would cost you 50c and the Yeoville crowd felt that was too expensive!) Norman’s Grill (for Prawns!) in the Jeppe Hotel. East Africa Pavilion (well known for it’s curries, where the waiters wore a red “fez”, The 252 Tavern. His Majesty’s Cellars, 69 Grill.
and Kosher - Connoisseur Hotel,(Gloria Rootshtain) (long gone)
And remember- The Rosenkowitz 6 from Cape Town, first surviving Sextuplets in the World

Owned by Chookie BRENNER . and the okes that worked there, Mervin Rappoport, Issy Peimer, Cecil Chweidan (O”h), Ivan Dorff, Solly Branstein, and a girl called Lola but I can’t remember her surname. And Dr. Chris Barnard, (Heart Transplants Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town)
And the …… the motor racing at Kyalami Race Track
And the Motor Rallys?. Anyone remember Lionel Gilinsky? He raced something called “Production cars” in “Endurance Races” at Old Grand Central Circuit ( Halfway House, now called Midrand) in the late 60’s and 70’s - and later “Historic” Cars at Kyalami Race Track. He was known to be amongst South Africa’s Top 3 Racing and Motor rally drivers in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Not bad for a boy from Welkom!!
Attorneys. - Moss Morris & Ettlinger, (Lennie Ettlinger, Max Levenberg, Selwyn Cohen, Hilliard Gordon, articled clerks then - Rodney Berman and John Gilbert, Also a Selwyn someone articled clerk). Accountants. Sussman and Lange (Trevor Sussman and David Lange) (cousin of Myron Lange, the Surgeon) later known as Sussman Goddard.
HILLBROW. We always went to The Curzon and Clarendon for 7/6- , ( later 75c,) and then a Bioscope called the International (owned by Herman and Maxwell Youngelson) was opened at the top of Pretoria Street and there it would cost you between 90c and R1.00, but the seats were so comfy and the whole bioscope was so plush, that the Yeovillites felt it was well worth the extra.
Anyone remember The French Hairdressing Saloon (a Mrs. Sher was the manageress) and the OK Bazaars and Carnival Novelty.

The word “THE. ” I learned in school that before a consonant we say “THE” . “THE” bed, “THE” table, “THE” book. And before a vowel the have to prounce the “the” as “THEE”……………. “THEE” Apple, “THEE” elephant, “THEE” egg.
So why then, do we hear (only in South Africa) people saying “THUH” apple, “THUH” Elephant, “THUH” egg. Please hold for “THUH” Operator. And why do some of us say “the PHOTA” when it is clearly “PHOTO”.
FOLKSINGING Era . Who remembers the Nite beat, run by Abe (who ran the tuck shop at the Yeoville Swimming Pool), and the folk-singers Ian & Ritchie ( Ian Lawrence and Ritchie Morris), Des and Dawn (Lindberg)(“And the Seagull’s name was Nelson”) (Dawn wore her hair in two pigtails then) Colin Shamley, Dave Marks (“Mountains of Men” and “Master Jack”) Cornelia, And The Troubador, The College Set - Andy Levy, Hugh Solomon, Norman Cohen) Keith Blundell and the Baladeers, Aubrey and Beryl Ellis. Mervyn and Jocelyn Miller (from Potch). Mel, Mel and Julian (Mel Miller, Mel Green, and Julian Laxton.
BIKERS and the Hell’s Angels, wearing black leather jackets, chains and the peace sign often around their necks, roaring down Pretoria St and Kotze St on Harley Davidsons making a helluva racket, some of the more nervous Biker girls precariously hanging onto their boyfriend’s backs, but “the in girls” didn’t hold on, they somehow balanced themselves by placing their hands nonchelantly behind the seat, looking around, throwing their hair back, with a “don’t- sig–with- me” look, lazer- beam- eyes, -looking–out- through- thick- black- fringes, and a tattoo here and there.
And nobody did “sig” with them, either.
The FLYING SAUCER is where they all met. Pretoria Street, Hillbrow.
Hillbrow’s Eateries and Coffee Bars Doney’s coffee bar for the best cappuccino in town (who remembers Jeftah and George, the Duke) Café Wien (later on), with the most comfortable seats, it was like sitting in your own lounge, Café Krantzler, Dunk-a-donut, The Milky Lane, the Florian (where the bus turned to go down Twist street to Town). Mi Vami, Lucky Luke (Steak House in the 70s), Fontana, open 24 hours a day, (famous for their chickens roasted on a spit,) Pikin-a-chicken, Porter House (Frulatto and the best Pink Sauce in town) not to mention the steaks (not that I ate them being one of the Kosher Kids, but I was sorely tempted, HA HA HA) and the German Beer Keller, The Hamburger Hut, Golden Egg, Bella Napoli. Kiss-Kiss.
The CHEZA in Jeppe Street. Famous for Muesli.
HAIR STYLES and fashion. We dyed our hair black with Palette where you dropped a white tablet into some black gunky muck and we all had pitch black hair. The Blacker your hair, the more “sharp” you were. We teased it and wore it in Wings, and the bigger the Wings were, the more “with it” you were. And remember the stiff petticoats under your many Flared skirts, and cat-eye glasses? Helanca stove-pipes, in all colours. Studded Belts, Box Pleated skirts, and ID Bracelets (with your boyfriend’s name engraved on the inside), Plaid pinafores came later on, and a ridiculous little narrow velvet bow on a clip or hairgrip which we found a space for in the teased bird’s nest, usually just to the back of the fringe. And also a thin chiffon scarf tied around the hair. White high-heeled shoes (I wouldn’t be seen dead in half the things we wore then)
My Mom always said that my hair was like a Bird’s Nest at the back, but then I didn’t have eyes at the back of my head, (just as well). Boys wore their hair sleeked back with Brylcream and Vitalis and all bought their t-shirts from the Skipper Bar. (Arnie, Mervyn, Earle and Barry Sacks) Black t-shirts with thin white and red stripes around the neck. And a corresponding white tee-shirt, with black and red stripes. If you didn’t have one of those, you were not one of the “in” boys!!!!
And then girls started to iron their hair. I remember my Mother used to plonk my head onto the ironing board, and put a brown paper bag on top of it, and iron away until I had sleek straight hair, but then the minute it rained, I looked at though someone has plugged me into an electric socket…. Durbs did the same to all those who had out-of-control hair - Frizzed them out in 2 mns flat, in fact as soon as you got to Van Reenen’s Pass into Natal, you knew you were there because your hair suddenly was on its own mission……..
and who Whirled their hair????? Oy - a bittereh gelechter….. We whirled it One way, then the other way, and you had dead straight hair (until you hit the 505 Club and the first thing you’d notice is that your fringe was just “not there” anymore) and the rest of your poor hair style was all moving in different directions. If it was raining, and you opened your front door, bang went the straight hair.
Remember those little DOEKs we wore on our head when we went to Durbs. I have a photo of myself wearing one.
COME ON GIRLS - who used to sleep with curlers/rollers in their hair!! and who remembers using the inside of a TOILET ROLL as an emergency roller??????? And all this lot would be covered over by a hairnet. Of course morning brought a splitter- of- a- headache from the curlers digging into your head. Anyone remember? Bet you do!!! I DO!! There you are, the big ADMIT………. What on EARTH did we look like? I don’t even want to think about it …………………
I always say that if I have to come back in another life, I want to come back as ME but with dead straight hair. Second choice, I wouldn’t mind coming back as one of my spoilt-out-of-control Dachshunds either (but the straight haired type, not the wiry haired) (ha ha)
GYM: Bodybuilders, weight-lifters and wannabes came strutting out of Gyms such as Sam Busa and Monte Osher all fit and glistening, with huge shoulder muscles, and killer smiles - carrying black gym bags. And Reg Park’s Gym, ALSO somewhere in Hillbrow.
YOGA: Mannie and Alan FINGER, Nina OBEL
MODEL AGENCIES: . Stella Grove and Gianna Pizanello
DANCING STUDIOS and DANCERS: Natalie Stern the late Mercedes Molina, Jeffrey Neiman (Enrique Segovia) & Rhoda Rifkin, Bernice Hotz , Gitanella (Spanish, Ballet,) Shirley Klitzner (O”h) (later in the 70s Hilary Etkind - taught with Rhoda and Jeffrey) (anyone who ever loved Spanish dancing, will remember Mercedes Molina/ Jeffrey Neiman as a brilliant dance duo) (and will remember the very sad passing away of Shirley Klitzner (O”h) when she was barely into her twenties).
PHOTOGRAPHERS. Maurice, Kurt Slesinger, Karklin, when it was fashionable to stand your wedding photo on an small easel on the floor. Either carpet or parquet flooring. Stella Nova .
RUGBY. Alan MENTER Springbok Flyhalf, and Sid NOMIS Springbok - Center, and later Wing), Alan is married to Pam (ex Pretoria) and his Brothers are Brian, Robert (Robbie) and Mandy (Malcolm (Z”l)) Menter. Their Mom Esmé (O”h) grew up with mine, in Dublin. Syd is married to Ann.
CRICKET. Dr. Ali BACHER former South African cricket captain and one of the greastet cricketers in South Africa. Ali BACHER received South Africa’s Sports Merit Award, the country’s HIGHEST athletics honour. Ali is married to Shira (I am friendly with Shira’s sister Marsha KARKLIN,) and I remember their daughter Ann being a Tennis champion when she was just a little kid of 11 in the days of the “Jewish Guild” Other well known South African Jewish cricketers came later on, Mandy YACHAD , and later Adam BACHER, nephew of Dr. Ali Bacher
TYPEWRITERS. My first memory of a type writer was that old black thing with with a keyboard with round circular lettering and a typewriter ribbon. My Mom used one in Dublin, Then I remember the Olivetti and also a swiss typewriter, but the ones where you would have to bash a silver thing on the upper right to go to a new line. I remember electric typewriters, and using a white powdery Tippex thing for covering up mistakes, except that they never quite covered them up, particularly on the carbon copies. And remember the carbon copies.. HA HA, and when I worked for lawyers, they didn’t allow those tippex rub-outs, so one little mistake and you had to start all over again. Remember STENCILS and Roneo-ing various blurb. I can remember using a bright shocking pink liquid with the stencils, I think. We wrote to “Messers. So and so”, and we’d end off with “ I remain, Yours Faithfully”
WEDDINGS and when the Bride/Kallah would change into her “going away outfit” and the blissful couple would leave the wedding to go off on their honeymoon. When Bride’s kept their vails on the entire night. When there were only 4 pole-holders and the Bride’s parents paid for the entire wedding, and the Groom/Chossen’s parents would pay for the booze, the photographer and the flowers.
THE CIRCUS Boswell-Wilkie. I hated the circus, terrified of the animals and sorry for them at the same time, a hypnotized crocodile once got out- of- control and strarted climbing out of the ring into the screaming audience. Clowns clowning around were never my scene, and when the trapeze artists or the tight-rope walkers did their act, my heart was always in my mouth, terrified they would fall or something. One did once, I can never get that memory out of my mind.

Around 1964 came the Beatles, (“8 days a week”, “Love Love me do” and later, “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s club Band” “Hey Jude”) The Rolling Stones, (Angie) the Mini Skirt era and Mary Quant and the birth of the Discothèque . Op Art earings in gaudy colours and the skirts continued to get shorter. Girls wore double breasted Pin stripe suits which made a come back. The Boutiques were born. I remember the BENATER family had a great boutique “Carnabies”, at the top of Rissik Street, or near there. It was, I think, the first shop of it’s kind. Very modern, trendy and for the young (20s and 30s). And the Pink Panther was in Hillbrow - Also very trendy gear.
Remember Twiggy?………. She was on every Magazine cover, often holding her Teddy Bear, feet pidgeon-toed, with beautiful big brown eyes, and a body so thin, she could fit through a crack in the wall. She started a trend, her, and “the Shrimp” - (Jean Shrimpton), and Mary Quant.
AND Op Art Earings in strange shapes and gaudy colours, shorter skirts, and flattie shoes.
The First Disco was at the Summit Club, Marrakech, (around 1966) with Go-Go dancers Dixie, Felicity Fouché, and Christine all dancing away in the micro-est of Mini-Skirts. Johnny Martin (previously known as Martin Raff) was the owner, and I heard he also owned a club called 007.
Someone called Neville Peacock was the Marrakech DJ and there were psychdelic and ultra violet lights and if you stood under the latter, all your “klein-goed” shone like a beacon for all to see.
And the 505 also in Hillbrow. Eddie Eckstein and Paul Ditchfield - The Bats played there on a Sunday ), and the Diamonds and Gene Rockwell (Heart!”) as did the Basemen (Ronnie Cline on Keyboard, Ralph Simon – Singer, Rodney Caines – Bass Guitar, Leon Bilewitz – drummer and Irwin Kalis – Lead Guitar) and Clive Calder, (Les Markowitz on drums) also played at “Club-a-go-go” and also they toured around the countryside and played at various venues.
Also Johnny Congos (“Sealed with a Kiss”), Johnny and the G-Men, and Johnny Sharp, 4 Jacks and a Jill. The Staccatos. Did I mention Manfred Mann? (“pretty Flamingo”)
MORE CLUBS - TJ’s (town) and The Yellow Submarine (Hillbrow) (owned by Martin HART) and the Boat (Buccleuch) were in the latter part of the sixties and the Downstairs later called The Purple Marmalade somewhere in Hillbrow. Another Disco was owned by George McCauley, brother of Ray, opposite Joubert Park (Club-A-Go-Go), His Granny worked in the tuckshop and was always so nice to everyone. The Band there was the “Falling Leaves” and George was in the Band. The Electric Circus, And Raffles , a very fancy disco/restaurant but that was in the late 70s. Owned by Dave Kerney. (I think). The Stable in Jan Smuts Avenue. The Out of Town Club
And who remembers the other Bioscopes - The Colosseum with the twinkling lights, Cliff Richard sang there once, and a few girls from Barnato Park were expelled for bunking school and going to his concerts. His Majestys, Monte Carlo (French Movies), The Empire, 20th Cen. Fox - Pritchard Street, Cinerama (Claim and Noord) In those days there was an interval after the News and the Cartoons, and Usherettes would be standing at each exit with a tray with all the Munchies and Chocolates, cold-drinks, etc. The Apollo in Doornfontein. I’ve already mentioned the Yeoville Bioscopes earlier on. Who remembers the “Midnight Shows” the Astra and the Victory in Orange Grove, The Rex in Greenside. The Plaza, the Bijou in town and some flea-bitten run down Café Bio which no decent self-respecting girl would touch with a barge-pole, but I can’t remember it. A lot of the Yale College boys went there. But not the girls!!!!
People smoked in the bioscopes (“scopes”) then and when you looked up, you saw it all swirling around in smoke from the projector. Nice and healthy!! but nobody ever noticed it. It was just a part of life in the sixties.
REMEMBER WHEN ………. we went to Bioscope on a Saturday night, dressed up in your A-line dress, or a Box- Pleated skirt, or tiny hound’s-tooth straight skirt in black/white and your black patent high-heeled shoes, with a Black Patent leather bag to match, and your gloves (which you carried in your hand). And later you wore your Dress with the shorter hemline, Mini-Skirts, and your “A-line evening coat” (Jackie Kennedy), just on the knee, and your flattie shoes, the hair teased up to the high heavens and lacquered so heavily that if it rained, you looked like glue. (Boys hated teased and lacquered hair)
And the boys wore jarmins and Elvis Presley hair-styles with thin ties made of nylon or similar in a machine-crochet style. (Later when the Beatles came in, boys’ hairstyles changed forever, and no boy would be seen dead with Brylcream or Vitalis plastered on his head). Boys would never previously been seen in pastel colours, but the Beatles changed all those dark shirts for pink, mauve and lemon, with a pin collar near the tie.
Boys would buy you a 75c box of Black Magic chocolate at Interval. If you put it into your black patent leather handbag and never offered him one, then your name was mud, and girls judged boys by whether they opened the car door for you …. or not!
AND SOME OF THE MOVIE STARS …., Natalie Wood, Kathryn Hepburn, Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Steve McQueen, Sohia Loren, Alain Delon (the heart-throb of the 60’s) (who remembers him in “Purple noon”) Gina Lollobridgida, Raquel Welsh, Bridgitte Bardot, Ursula Andress, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson (One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest), Shirley McLaine, Julie Christie, Michael Caine, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Paul Newman, Sal Mineo, Suzanne Pleshette, Richard Burton, Sean Connery, Omar Sharif, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck (to die for?) James Dean
POPULAR MOVIES. West side story, King Kong, Gone with the Wind, Exodus, Dr. No, *From Russia with Love, * (Remember in that movie, the Russian woman (was her name someone KREBBS?) who had a knife come out of her boot and it shot straight into poor Sean Connery’s shin bone. EINA! Just thinking about it, hurts me) Bridge on the River Kwai, Dr. Zhivago, Goldfinger, (it had a great theme song in it by I think Shirley Bassey) Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Annie Get your Gun, Dingaka.
And the DRIVE INs Old Pta Road - Jhb Drive in, The 5-Star (Eloff St.Ext), The Velskoen (If a girl was seen at the drive in with a boy, she got a “bad name” and the same for the Café Bio’s. It was just not for a nice Jewish girl!!
REMEMBER WHEN ….. there was NO Bioscope on Sunday nights
THEATRES. Alhambra (Doornfontein) , Brian Brooke (Braamfontein), Market Theatre ( Newtown), Alexander theater , Jacques Brel, Apollo (Doornfontein).
Remember the Adverts for all the Cigarettes, Players, Craven "A", Dunhill (remember the maroon Rolls Royce?) Benson & Hedges (Gold) , Lexington (That’s the one!), Gunston (remember him on a raft, all macho, manly, unshaven and rough and ready tumbling through impossible rivers?) Horseshoe Tobacco, Gold Dollar, Texan, (which the boys would hold between their thumb and middle finger) Lucky Strike, Gauloise and Peter Stuyvesant (for the fun lovers, remember the wonderful places they went to and the great clothes they wore, swimming in glorious lagoons, skiing down snow-capped mountains, all the beautiful people, all having wonderful fun?) I never smoked,(well, I have to say that, in case my family read this article, ha ha) but after I watched the Peter Stuyvesant adverts, I really felt like buying a packet , so that I too, could go to all those magical places, and I’d look glamerous too, HA HA - (the power of advertising!) (A Bittereh Gelechter!!)
But it just looked so “in” to see people smoking, and girls would hold the cigarettes at the tips of their fingers, and waved their hands for effect as they spoke, shaking their fringes out of their eyes. People who didn’t smoke, were “squares”.
I remember Celeste GREENBLATT, taught me how to apply black pencil inside my eyelids, and ‘base” onto my face and to wear white lipstick and I taught Sandra STEIN (later Ezra) to dye her hair black, and the blacker the better, (her Mother had a FIT) - Golda (née Kaufman) (O”h) whom I saw yearly in LA and she never failed to remind me !
FLORA and FAUNA in South Africa. I remember once being enthralled by the most magnificent yellow creeper we had growing on the fence in Becker Street. I took photos of it, and sent it to my friends in Dublin to show the exotic flora and fauna is this beautiful sunny South Africa, until Michael GOLDING next door, laughed his head off and said “but that’s only Canary Creeper, it’s not much better than a common garden weed”!! African Violets, Jasmin, Golden Shower, Begonia Sherera, Bougainvillea, Pointsettia, Birds of Paradise, Cycads?. Maybe they do grow overseas too.
PARTIES in Observatory, Cyrildene and Dewetshof. We rock ‘n rolled to Elvis Presley’s “Jail house rock” & “Don’t step on my blue suede shoes”, “Rock around the Clock” in our flared skirts with stiff petticoats underneath, the more the better, and huge belts around our waists, and we wore flat shoes (75c at Maram’s chemist, and 95c for the leopard skin ones). And later we twisted with Chubby Checker (Let’s Twist again, like we did last summer ) We also did a dance called the Shake – anyone remember the song “I’ll do the Shake, the hippy- hippy shake” and also a dance called the Madison.
The Bez Valley Ou’s, on a Sat night Jol, and the Lebs would sometimes gatecrash. Usually a Scuffle and the girl’s father would have to ask them to leave. Sometimes, in stubborn cases the police would have to be called in to skop them all out. And then the party continued on, Little Richard, Cliff Richard, - sometimes a few of the kids would have a bit of “dagga”, (a zol), on the stoep or in the back garden when they thought nobody was looking, and the only way anyone kopped on was because they would come back to the party with a manic laugh, and red eyes. (and of course the smell, but if you admitted to knowing the smell, then it meant you were a dagga smoker yourself!) Trini Lopez. “If I had a hammer”
SOCIALS at Oxford Shul, The Vrede Hall, Yeoville Recreation Center, Temple Shalom, and Bands like “Dinkie and the Deans” - Jake (Gerald) Fox (Z”l) (rhythm Guitar), Barry Sacks (Lead Guitar), Spencer Hodgson (Bass guitar) and Errol Sack on the drums, would play, they also played at the Club 505 in “the Brow”. Peter Lotus well known Jhb Disc Jockey, I think he sang as well. Lots of singers used to go to Margo’s on a Sunday Afternoon, and the crowd would all hot-foot it out there after them to hear music. I think it was Bapsfontein, or near there). There was little else to do on a Sunday, so many places were closed. Just remembered another band, Dave Levine and the Swinging Angels. Les Gutfreund was one of the band and made a name for himself as Les Goode. “Dickie Loader and the Blue Jeans” Gene Rockwell – Heart.
NIGHT CLUBS and Bands. Bennie Michaels, Archie Silansky and his daughter Carole Sands The Coconut Grove at the Orange Grove Hotel, Dan Hill (Ichilchik), The Colony at the Hyde Park Hotel, Sardi’s, The Mediteranean (I Cinque di Roma), Diamond Horseshoe, The Greek Taverna, Ciro’s (Kruis Street)

REMEMBER WHEN we would get all dressed up to go to town, to have tea at Ansteys sitting alongside Ladies in beautiful outfits, white gloves, smart, elegant, men in suits, with white shirts and ties
MUSIC Soul music was popular in the 60s, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Carla Thomas, Otis Redding (“sitting on the Dock of the Bay”), Percy Sledge (“ Midnight Hour”, and Music from Brasil, Sérgio Mendes, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana brass.
And of course, Johnny Mathis, Charles Aznavour, Simon and Garfunkel, José Feliciano
And …. REMEMBER WHEN , our Mothers would ring a little bell at suppertime, and the “servant” (oi, how COULD we have??) would come in with the next course. And when your “boy” did the garden and the “girl” cooked.

Beni Akiva and Habonim Camps. Betar. Hashomer Ha’tza-ir (spelling, whoops!!)
AND REMEMBER WHEN the only children at a barmitzvah function were the Barmitzvah boy and his siblings, who were allowed to stay up for the night. The entire Simcha was for adults and the only time you heard the Barmi boy, was when he made his speech. Robert’s Barmitzvah was a Kiddush at home after Shul, and a “tea” that evening for a few friends of my Parents. Many kids had that kind of Barmi. Who knew then from Theme Barmitzvahs.
AND …..When Children were children, and played snakes and ladders, and ludo, dominoes, monopoly, yo-yo’s, and they read out of the Local Libraries and they played Cowboys and Indians, ( just entertained themselves. No Video games, computers, cell phones, I-pods, Electronic everything… and No TV then either.

David Gresham - Gruesome Gresh - (keep your feet on the ground ,and reach for the Stars) Everyone remembers “JOHN BERKS” !! - “Long John Berks” - I always listened to the Talk shows and one show in particular has stayed in my mind. The Jhb Station Master, complete with an Afrikaans accent, (guess who) called a Yiddishe guy living somewhere in Killarney, to tell him that his consignment of chickens were on their way over. You could hear what sounded like a few thousand chickens all clucking their heads off and the poor fellow was protesting, saying that it was the wrong number, it wasn’t him, some mistake and besides, he had a small balcony, and he didn’t have room for crates of chickens, but The “Station Master” kept on saying that he has nowhere for them either, the fellows’ name and address were on the crates and the chickens were going to be on their way, shortly.. What a “lag” that was. Although this article is about the 60s, I can’t help but mention my fellow countryman, John Robbie, and John, if you ever get to read this “Go mbeanna Dia Duit” and enjoy Lá na Pádraig.

And Polio – two major epidemics in 1947 and 1954/55, when schools were closed, and public swimming pools too, children in iron lungs and leg braces. Infantile Paralysis, they called it. (I wasn’t here then but I know about it)
Around the late fifties, a movie came out with Danny KAYE and Barbara Bel GEDDES (Miss Ellie in Dallas) , called the “FIVE PENNIES”. Story of Red Nichols, and his young daughter (played by both Susan Gordon and Tuesday Weld) who contracted polio. .
And “Interrupted Melody” Another polio movie about the Opera singer, Eleanor PARKER. Terrible epidemic, wiped out today, as far as I know . And then they found an immunization against Polio.

My Sarie Marais is so ver van my hart,
Maar’k hoop om haar weer te sien,
Sy het in die wyk die Mooirivier gewoon,
Nog voor die oorlog het begin.
O bring my t’rug na die ou Transvaal,
daar waar my Sarie woon
daar onder in die mielies by die groen doringboom
Daar woon my Sarie Marais.

DISCLAIMER. This article has been written from my memories of S.Africa from 48 years ago, and if a Shul, or Hotel, or a Club is not mentioned, it doesn’t mean that they didn’t exist, it means, simply, that I don’t remember them. I can’t add them in, either, because then the article would not be “My Memories” any more.

what’s a weird headcanon you have for each of your muses?
hnak has blogs indulge me | accepting
each? well okay
okay this is gonna go under a readmore because i have a fuckton
-takes a deep breath-
hank: probably the weirdest headcanon i posted for him was that his helmet lets him talk to bug identifying otherkin because the comics define bug so broadly that why the fuck not
finesse: very deep into how-to videos on youtube. watches them constantly
cory: compound eyes are really trippy to see through while high
maria: uses a spear in modern day combat for some fucking reason
topher: wears so many sweatervest because he likes the knit textures but hates being given them as gifts because
doris: might be an angel???
monique: is a connoisseur of energy drinks
success: is actually the least powerful of her family of superhumans, but the only one who ended up a superhero because of some bad luck
mai: deliberately has an obnoxious laugh because she hated her laugh for a long time, then decided to embrace it instead and fuck everyone else if they don’t care for it
slipknot: can tie knots with his teeth or feet if he’s barefoot
kavita: finds starfish inherently funny
mama sharpe: not really a headcanon but one of the weirder plots i had on her for a while was she was trying to make billy turner aka scout into a model because he had one arm and she wanted diversity points
shachath: constantly surrounded by dead bugs that land on her
william: comically unambitious
rose: loves kitschy shit
steven: goes through phases of collecting things but then loses interest and goes for something else so he has a lot of medium-to-large but still incomplete collections of various collectables
cecilia: collects interesting looking wine bottles. also saves ones from important events
zeke: struggles with buying cigarettes or buying comic books every wednesday and always caves into the former
ned: hates the concept of cream pies, but makes them anyway
scott: buys mini m&ms because he swears they taste better than normal ones, but grows them to the size of regular ones so he has more chocolate
bumblebee: has a box of naked barbie dolls tucked away somewhere
june: not a headcanon because this was real canon but she ran over her dad with a tractor
jenny: hates the power rangers because every year for halloween someone suggests she dress up as the yellow power ranger because it’s basically the only costume that can work with her containment suit
beryl: not a headcanon but my weirdest plot wishlist thing for her is i want her to lose an eye because her fc has a strangely large number of movies where she’s got an eyepatch so???
quinn: buys a lot of faer regular clothes at post-halloween sales bc fae includes a lot of ridiculous theatricality in faer wardrobe
maurice: man idk fuck this guy tbh. i guess he’s just really bad at coming up with psych experiments which would be ironic except that his solution is so just throw out ethics altogether so instead of ironic he’s jsut bad
quarrel: puts too many veggies on pizza. basically makes salad on a bread plate
monica rappaccini: hate earnest hemingway bc he was an ass but also quotes him a lot bc he’s just quotable
jason & ian: get about four hours of sleep max every night and run almost entirely on caffeine and cocaine respectively
jericho: will wear as few clothes as any particular situation allows. also her superhero costume is literally leftover costume pieces from theatre
iraceus: his name is actually a portmonteau of his name and his dead twin’s name which is weird if by weird you mean sad
monica chang: has a secret lego collection in her parents’ attic
alice: has a huge collection of trash from neighbors which she shrinks so she can transfer the mass to food and stuff
relinquish: uses diplomatic immunity to fly hot air balloons without a license
aya: prefers to address people with more formal terms because she wants to show that she is polite and nice
kita: wears a lot of sunglasses, like he’s trying to hide something about his eyes even though they look 100% normal but he wants to be more ~mysterious~
jocasta: annoyed by humans a lot of the time and doesn’t want to be seen as human because she’s not, but wants to do human things like have a baby
skyler: surprisingly okay with weed, privately, but wouldn’t say so now after walt
jeremy: uses his powers to make THC
kelly: was ridiculously busy in college because she was doing gymnastics and majoring in marine biology. also i kinda bent the laws of time for her because i decided she had puberty blockers, which wouldn’t have been available at the time but FUCK IT i do what i want
sam: literally everything about them is weird. they’re from night vale. they’re very emotionally attached to their shotgun
daria: not really weird but i think i read way more socialist/communist ideology into daria’s beliefs than the writers necessarily intended
aaron: likes to keep fish and when he’s traveling, he’ll create temporary fish tanks in his hotel rooms
friday: exists in a world where commercial mascots are real and has interacted with at least a few. probably fought the noid from domino’s
lillian: world’s clumsiest vampire
trauma: has a lot of opinions about the difference between goth and emo
elisa: got into psychology as part of a plan to take over a country which isn’t really a headcanon but it’s also just like a weird plan for taking over a country
miguel: pays too much in rent for his apartment tbh because he spends more nights at work than at home
lauren: tries very hard to have a personal life that’s separate from work, but it’s difficult bc she also has to babysit miguel
justin: likes swedish fish bc they’re vegan
xerxes: pretends to not like broadway shows, but does, and also prefers to sneak into them
hiroshi: pretends to be very proud of dropping out of an ivy league school because that seems like a cool counter-cultural thing to do, but actually super regrets it bc he can’t remember why it happened (kita up there was responsible, back at number 36)
yellowjacket: surprisingly nit-picky about cleaning and organization, the opposite of hank
ambrose: i mean this isn’t really weird, to me, but i guess it’s weird to other people, but like one of zir special interests is death positivity
janet: again, not actually that weird, but janet actually likes bugs. like she’s not an entomologist but i hate how often girls are depicted as thinking of bugs as icky, especially superheroines that are named after bugs like wtf
guy: local pyromaniac doesn’t know what to do with his hands
geoluread: laughs in the face of disaster because it probably won’t hurt hues
karnilla: can turn into a motherfuckin’ dragon
tomi: mm idk she’s more of a switch than anything else, but because of her job as a dominatrix and a lot of trust issues, she doesn’t get a lot of opportunity to sub ono
stonewall: literally became a superhero by accident bc she saw a fight at a protest and just threw a pride flag over her face to hide her identity to help the protesters and then stumbled into superheroness from there
winged victory: very socially awkward, despite her very public identity and good speaking skills
guard: speaks like eight languages but will play dumb about that as often as benefits him.
brad: originally had him born in the 60s but i aged him up about 20 years so he could be alive to write kirk/spock slash fic in the early days of fanfiction
kaiba: really way too in love with that fucking dragon
schrodinger: hmmm well i guess like. idk most of my things about schrodinger are tragic or a thinly veiled critique of moderate white liberalism. he likes marmite which i guess is weird
#meme response#i forgive people for not reading all of this#because there are 65.5 characters listed here#patrioticduty
