Yet more gifts of Appalachian summer.
I've been on a mission to catalogue as many of Central Appalachia's summer wildflowers and berries as possible for an online project I'm starting up. Above is the haul from yesterday, including the stunning orange-fringed orchid (Platanthera ciliaris), a grand summer orchid of Appalachia's wet seeps and meadows. Downy rattlesnake plantain (Goodyera pubescens), another of our summer-blooming orchids, may not be quite as showy, but its intricately-patterned leaves are quite striking. Turk's-cap lily (Lilium superbum) is also in bloom in our local wet meadows and swamps. It's distinguished from its close cousin Canada lily by more strongly recurved petals and a green, star-like pattern in the center of its flowers. A single Turk's cap lily can produce dozens of flowers from its rangy stems. At home in moist woodland edges and streambanks, summer phlox (Phlox paniculata), sometimes also referred to as fall phlox and garden phlox, produces loads of gorgeous pink or white flowers from mid-July through September. Because this phlox is commonly planted in gardens nowadays, it's hard to know if plants in the wild are true natives or escapees.

Note
When the Elders make up, they enroll in community college together and split rent 5 ways with the Witches for a place of their own (like the Pizza Crust Collective).
David majors in photography/graphic design. He originally wanted to do game development and make the a Power Punchers style franchise based on their DnD campaigns but coding is hard. He duel majors in early childhood development because he later realizes he misses being surrounded by kids all the time and works well with them.
Barry gets into computer science to piss off his dad (ala For Tax Reasons animations) but is also interested in working with animals. He volunteers with Courtney at the black cat rescue to fill the void.
Mark switches his major 47 times. He has the hardest time adjusting to college/growing up and has a nervous breakdown. His dramatic (gay) ass discovers a love for theater, and he applies his knack for story telling to creative writing. He also becomes a huge film buff and is a film major. None of these degrees help him find work however and he ends up doing IT

Thinking about how honeysuckle, blackberries, and mint are all stubborn-as-fuck plants that Can And Will take over your entire backyard if you give them half a chance, but are also very different from each other

The sweet old yew asks
“Are you prepared for the quest to be painful?”
When the youth has been training under their bough all this time. Have you not seen the light? And the shadow?
No tears will last, and they can water the other trees the learning needs to see. He knowns the sweet trees to well, and bitter pine is needed now. Perhaps not to drink, but certainly to see. At worst, it’s not like the sweet tree will leave me?
And if there are no trees to see, only then will there be trouble
