it’s not that he’s been particularly lonely or that he hasn’t seen his mother in a long time; rather he is an affectionate creature and she is one of the two people in the world he loves and trusts to the fullest, so it is only normal, he thinks, that when he finally makes it to her apartment, he greets her with an enthusiasm that goes way beyond what he presumes grown children usually show their parents.

at heart, though, he is still a child, and so he is more than comfortable with the way he runs up to her, nearly jumping her in his excitement and wrapping arms around her frame. he instantly buries his face into the crook of her neck, curling himself around her like a little child wanting to get as much of the affection as possible until eventually he’s just rubbing his cheek against her shoulder and hugging her as close as he can get.

“mom mom mom mom mom mom mom mom mom,” he chimes happily in excited repetition, the language flowing from his lips the one she had personally taught him. his father had taught him the language of his country, his mother the language of his home. still, she is the only person he’s ever used it with until he came to mount phoenix and met other japanese people. “i’ve missed you mom how have you been are you well pet my hair did you make me food?” 

as always whatever he says in her presence comes out like a waterfall of words and perhaps the reason he got so lucky with having his mother around is because she is the goddess of things that flow and he is an endless flow of words and energy; has been since he was born.

Affairs Of The Heart

For a god who’s duty it was to weigh a human heart, he understood very little of the emotion which got so tightly associated to the organ. Which was a rather strange fact considering how he was capable of sensing emotions of others. One would think Anubis would have no trouble with showing his own emotions, acting upon them or figuring out exactly how he felt and why he felt a certain way. But nothing less was true. The Egyptian god always had told himself he knew enough about emotions to decide he didn’t need them in his life. Facts and knowledge were so much better to rely on. Emotions, he thought, were rather fickle things and it baffled him each and every time when humans put more trust in them than in their logical thinking.

Throughout his years with the dead and the living the god had tried to understand why humans, and others of his kind, were so determined to rely on their emotions. Why they were capable of ‘following their heart’ as they so beautifully phrased it. But until now he hadn’t been able to find a single satisfying answer yet. Since the question kept bugging and fascinating him at the same time Anubis had decided to seek out a professional on the matter in Mount Phoenix. He had to admit that there were a lot of experts on the topic of love and emotions around this city but he still had decided to seek out a Japanese goddess first. She worked as a geisha and as far as his knowledge reached to him that meant the goddess had mastered the art of faking her emotions and other different arts of entertainment in order to amuse others.

Finding his way to the Tengu apartments rather easily Anubis asked the receptionist for Benzaiten’s room number. Riding the elevator up to the correct floor, it took him but another couple of steps until he’d reached the correct door. Knocking on it politely, since he found doorbells to be such a nuisance, he waited to hear and see if she’d heard his knocking or if he had to ring her doorbell.

Amaterasu wasn’t a stranger to pain, but there was just something absolutely jarring when bone collided with bone, and in this case, her chin against Benzaiten’s head. She reeled back and clung to the other as the world spun for a few moments, but the laughter that escaped her was real. 

“It’s nice to see you too, my dear friend.” Her smile was warm as she rubbed her aching jaw and reached to pat the growing bump on the latter’s head. It didn’t take much but just a soft warmth to heal any sort of discomfort. An Amaterasu special.

“It is entirely my fault as I approached you with the intention of surprising you.” Amaterasu’s eyes glowed as she offered her arms now to the other goddess. “Maybe we can try this reunion again?” Benzaiten always made Amaterasu feel comforted and cheered. And despite the years that had passed and their vessels might be different, Amaterasu was glad that some feelings never changed.

“You look absolutely gorgeous, as always!”

  How wonderfully formal! Eros is delighted by the returned bow and slightly deepens his further, a show of his respect to her. He had been on a simple run to the store for more fabric when he encountered her. As he hears her question the god straightens himself again before rocking back slightly on the heels of his shoes. 

  He pushes his hands further into his jacket pockets to keep the slight chill from touching his fingers. Poking his face up further from the security of his rather large autumn colored scarf he smiles fully at her before answering.

  “Eros. My name is Eros,” he says simply, opting to not speak of his stance as a god or of his powers. Opting simply to be self-addressed as a man before a goddess.

  “And what’s your name?”
