El inabarcable y original universo que envuelve toda vida y obra de Vincent Gallo daría para un artículo aparte, enorme, profundo y oscuro como él.

Hace ya más años de los que quisiera admitir, de pura casualidad, me tropecé con "I wrote this song for the girl Paris Hilton", una superposición hipnótica de loops, de inusual e inexplicable belleza que abría esa joya de disco que es "When" (Warp Records, 2001).

A lo largo del mismo, se extiende esa atmósfera vaporosa, envolvente y sútil. Las letras, las melodías y los arreglos parecen todos a medio hacer, apuntes de una obra maestra que solo acaba de ensamblarse en la cabeza del oyente.

Del mismo modo que en el film "La Jetée" (Chris Marker,1962), esta obra se acaba componiendo en la cabeza del espectador uniendo, mezclando, montando los retales que con cuidado dejan a nuestra vista .

La creatividad de Gallo explota hacia todas partes y traspasa los limites convencionales de expresión: actor, director, modelo, pintor, escritor, músico, guionista...La onda expansiva abarca también una faceta inevitable, las bandas sonoras de sus películas reúnen tesoros atípicos, rarezas que al unirse conforman un todo sublime que proyectan la película a otro nivel.

Si en Buffalo'66 nos abrió los ojos o mejor dicho, los oídos, a Yes, Stan Getz e incluso King Crimson, en Brown Bunny recuperaba del olvido a un hiperinspirado John Frusciante y además, nos descubría a algunos la figura de Jackson C. Frank.

El malogrado músico nacido en Buffalo en 1943 sobrellevó como pudo una existencia trágica desde que su colegio saltara por los aires en un incendio que se llevó la vida de 15 niños en 1954. Las secuelas de dicho sucesos le marcarían para siempre mucho más alla de las quemaduras en la piel.

Unos diez años después, con el cheque de 110.000 $ que le pagó el seguro, decidió irse a Londres a lanzar su carrera como cantante de folk.

Conocío el éxito fugazmente pero como algo ajeno, su existencia parecía naturalmente instalada en el fracaso y la tragedia. Vió como el éxito le volvía la espalda, se arruinó, perdió un hijo, perdió la cabeza, lo perdió todo y acabó regresando a Estados Unidos y vagando en las calles de Nueva York.

Durmiendo en la calle, una bala disparada por unos niños que jugaban con un arma le hizo perder, además, un ojo.

Su cuerpo se acabó de consumir con apenas 56 años, su equilibrio mental mucho antes...

De su obra solo se conserva un disco que grabó en los estudios de CBS al llegar a Londres en 1965 con Paul Simon tras la mesa. Sin embargo, fueron suficientes esos 56 minutos como para ser considerado una figura de culto, una leyenda.

Nick Drake tocaba a menudo en sus shows una versión de la arrebatadoramente bella "Milk and Honey", que Gallo eligió para el trailer de Brown Bunny.

Acudí a rescatar las canciones de Jackson C. Frank cuando Mark Kozelek con su proyecto Sun Kil Moon publicó en 2014 "Benji" y sacudió mi vida con "Carissa".

La desoladora historia de la muerte accidental de una prima segunda le lleva al fundador de Red House Painters a reflexionar acerca de las raices de uno, del sentido de la vida y como no, del de la muerte.

Desnuda su alma sobre una base austera armada en torno a una guitarra simple y repetitiva. Con palabras sencillas, sin artificios llega a removerte por dentro, muy dentro. Sublime.

Sobre la familia como refugio, como lugar de eterno retorno cantaba años antes David Pajo, bajo el sobrenombre de Papa M en "Over Jordan" en su disco "Whatever Mortal" (Drag City, 2001).

Tras fundar una de las bandas mas influyentes de las últimas decadas (Slint) y desarrollar su talento posteriormente con The For Carnation, Tortoise y Stereolab, entre otros, su paso a la música folk parecía un ejercicio de estilo sin más cuando publicó Papa M "Sings" justo después del imprescindible "Live From a Shark Cage".

Sin embargo en "Whatever Mortal" se consolida como cantante y letrista dado que ya lo había hecho como multinstrumentista (como evidencia, valga "Krusty", tercer corte del mismo disco).

"Over Jordan" tiene una letra sencilla, casi infantil, y es que no hace falta más que eso y una instrumentación espartana para arropar un mensaje tan directo como la evocación del retorno a casa, pasando por el Jordan, como Josué, para abandonar el desierto, lo árido y llegar a la tierra prometida.

Mi buen amigo Arnau me contaba que se curaba las heridas aplicando miel sobre ellas. Me parece tan poética esa terapia, la imagen en si, que la aplico cuando se me reabre una herida en el alma.

Acudo a este tipo de musicos que me imagino con su guitarra frente a un abismo infinito. La belleza y luminosidad escondida tras tormentosas experiencias, actúan como un bálsamo sobre las nimiedades que , en ocasiones, me quitan el sueño.

Una típica basura de cine hollywoodense, la reseño porque ponen a Harrison Ford en la portada pero no avisan que es una pinche película para niño con retraso mental (por que hay películas para niños muy buenas). Que una lástima que el señor Ford se preste a este tipo de pelis en sus últimos años, después de haber protagonizado obras maestras como Blade Runner o joyas como Indiana Jones y varias buenas más en las que salió pero en fin. Es de un puto perro todo culero hecho por computadora que desde que empieza la peli da mal rollo tío (así es, ahora ando de mamadorcito con frases españoletas), bueno el perro es un tipo san Bernardo con inteligencia de Benji y nada de puta gracia por que sabes que es un puto perro hecho en CGI o como se llama la madre con las que los hacen por computadora. Vive en una familia, se hace el graciosito, se lo roban para venderlo y llevarlo a Alaska por qué hay una fiebre de oro, entonces necesitan perros para jalar trineos. Lo usan para llevar correos, se hace el lider, le salva la vida a una vieja, a un lobo y a cualquier pendejo que se esté muriendo en la peli. El chiste que a donde llega se convierte en el puto amo y todos se le cuadran. En serio no la vean o veanla con su familia si tienen niños medio estúpidos que no aprecian el buen cine y solo les interesa pasar el rato, seguro les gustará a varios. Bueno al final se hace jefe de una manada de lobos y hasta los osos lo respetan, soy el jefe de jefes señores me respetan a todos niveles. Le doy 3, mala casi regular.

GANA EL FC JUÁREZ DUELO AMISTOSO EN OAKLAND

Oakland, CALIFORNIA.- El FC Juárez se impuso 2-4 a Oakland Roots en duelo amistoso internacional, para seguir en ritmo tras la pausa en la Liga MX por la fecha FIFA, donde destacó el debut del delantero uruguayo Diego Rolán, quien se estrenó con tres goles.

Ante una gran entrada en el Estadio Laney College, los Bravos muy rápido abrieron el marcador, y es que apenas dos minutos le bastaron a Diego Rolán para adelantarse en el marcador. Al 8’ nuevamente aparecería Rolán aprovechado los espacios para el 0-2.

Todavía los locales no se reponían de ese tanto, cuando Darío Lezcano remató prácticamente solo un gran centro para con certero cabezazo poner el 0-3 a los 11 minutos. Tras un trepidante inicio los de California reaccionaron al 26’ por conducto de Benji Joya. Todavía en la recta final del primer tiempo nuevamente Rolán aparecería al 42’ para marcar su triplete y poner el 1-4 en el marcador, y así se fueron al descanso.

En el complemento Roots rápidamente buscó ir al frente, y al minuto cinco de reanudarse las acciones pondrían el 2-4 con el gol de Ryan Masch. Gabriel Caballero por su parte aprovechó para ver en acción a la mayoría de su plantel, realizando múltiples cambios, ya que este partido sirve como preparación para el partido de la Jornada 9 de la Liga MX ante León. 

Con variantes al ataque y buen accionar del portero de Roots, los Bravos siguieron insistiendo, pero el marcador ya no se movería, decretando el 2-4 final. Los Bravos ahora regresarán a Juárez de cara a su siguiente compromiso en el Torneo Apertura 2019 ante León, mismo que se jugará en el Estadio León el próximo sábado 14 de septiembre.

Sporting Kansas City finished the 2016 season at 13-13-8, and since you would expect from a team with a .500 record, 2016 has been a research in up-and-down form.

Sporting came out of the gates flying, carrying four wins out of five matches, then backed that up with a seven-game winless run. However, Children’s Mercy Park has been a fortress for the club throughout the year. Ten wins in the home with only four declines helped cancel form on the path to help Sporting Kansas City land one of the Western Conference playoff spots.

A return to name type proved elusive as the side dropped into a dramatic late header from Nelson Valdez and ran in the knockout round to the red-hot Seattle Sounders.

The return of the squad must bode well for Sporting in 2017, as should an attack that outscored three MLS teams each season be bolstered by the registering for a designated participant that should help.

Having come up as an expert with Barcelona’s B team, some time was also spent by the midfielder and may wind up being a player if he could settle in the midfield. Soony Saad returning to the club should also be a welcome sight to SKC lovers as well.

You have the feeling that there are several spots up for grabs, and the versatility of the participant pool could see any number of players moved those areas off. For now, we provide Sanchez and Fernandes nods in the side. Fernandes matches a need for the club around the wing, and Sanchez has the pedigree to become an update as a defensive midfielder.

As are a few of those places across the back line where Graham Zusi actually lines up is a bit of a question. Jimmy Medranda could simply work his way as a fullback to the XI or in the midfield, and Soni Mustivar includes a promise in the midfield as well.

Gapers Block–Chicago Fire Win The Lottery

Recounting the Fire's acquisition of Benji Joya.

The Chicago Fire participated Wednesday in a weighted lottery between 3 teams in MLS for the ability to sign United States Youth National Team player Benji Joya and emerged the victor, signing him on a one year loan. Joya, a 20-year-old midfielder played previously with Santos Laguna of Mexico's Liga MX, brings an interesting perspective to the team, having forgone the collegiate route to sign with one of the top clubs in Mexico. Joya has also been a fixture in the National Team picture, having started nearly every game in his time with the Under-20 National Team, even serving as captain for last summer's CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

Joya's career for Santos' senior team was relatively short, just four appearances over two years, but it is clear from his time with the National Team that he is a player of significant talent, and is just getting started professionally. He could be an impact signing for the Fire in 2014, but that will be contingent of whether or not he can get minutes. He will be vying for a spot in a midfield that sees all four of last year's starters return, so initially expect to see him come in as a second-half substitute. According to a piece by Brian Sciaretta in the New York Times, Joya's strength is as an attacking right midfielder, a position which has been occupied at times by Patrick Nyarko. Nyarko has a great deal of speed, and can slot in at forward as well, but with the return of 2013 MLS MVP Mike Magee and Designated Player Juan Luis Anongono, one has to imagine Nyarko will see more minutes in the midfield.

All of this is to be tempered though, by the fact that head coach Frank Yallop will have the opportunity to rethink the team with regards to positional depth in the coming weeks while the Fire complete pre-season training in Ave Maria, Florida, and that we could see a very different-looking group of players taking the field come March 8th.
