                          it’s  rare  for  toph  to  hug  anybody,  as  it  requires  immense  levels  of  trust.  still,  when  aang  approaches  her  (  less  pep  in  his  step,  enough  reason  to  be  suspicious  )  and  links  his  arms  around  her  small  form,  the  earth  bender  goes  silent.  her  expression  remains  deadpan,  before  budging  ever  so  slightly  as  her  features  soften,  slowly  moving  arms  around  his  sides  to  reciprocate  the  abrupt  hug.  being  the  avatar  wasn’t  easy,  she  could  only  imagine  the  heavy  burden.  still,  as  his  teacher  and  friend,  toph  will  be  there  for  him  no  matter  what.

it’s a rare moment of JOY they’ve stolen back for themselves, a group of kids sitting around an open flame, sharing a meal. conversation moves around the group in waves, lively and loud, and if bee shuts her eyes and pretends for a MOMENT, it sounds just like the festivals her village used to put on near the end of summer. but her eyes are busy and so is she. scanning the crowd and the surrounding area carefully, DUTIFULLY, as if she can never quite stop patrolling these dangerous woods. she catches sight of sokka as he tries on the duke’s oversized helmet and smiles at the eruption of LAUGHTER he earns from some of the rebels. how LONG has it been since they’d last laughed and celebrated like this?

bee is jolted out of her reprieve when the AVATAR joins her, begins to make conversation. aang is not what she had been expecting, but she’s secretly pleased he’s YOUNG like they are ( it means he may understand, means he knows how it feels to bear the weight of the world at only TWELVE ). they speak, voices quiet next to the roaring fire, the racious laughter and she’s overcome with an odd, unfamiliar feeling; is this what HOPE is meant to feel like?

before they part for the evening ( they’re staying the night and the rebels are glad to shelter the three for as long as they need ), bee slips off one of her bulky gloves, revealing the skin, MARRED and UNEVEN, underneath. it’s old, but still so angry. “i just- i wanted to show you my burn. so you can really see what’s happening.” and she’s surprised when aang’s fingers graze over her hand, but holds steady and lets him take in the bumps, the unpleasantries, the HURT that once was there. “we all have them. they’re signs we survived, you know? but maybe, now that you’re here-” a pause while she finds the WORDS. “maybe we’ll be the last ones who ever need to have them again.” 

it’s too optimistic, she knows, but standing with the avatar’s hand CLASPED over her own, bee means it with her whole chest.

    There were probably plenty more important, RELEVANT things to be asking about the current predicament. The logical “whys” and “hows.” A generous dash of SKEPTICISM--not the first time he had seen another him, just the first time it was this absurdly accurate. But perhaps Aang--one of the Aangs?--had decided to accept it, move on. And therefore bring up the next subject of debate deemed pertinent.

   the answer was SIMPLE. katara shouldn’t have to spell it out. her toes dig into the sand at the lake’s edge as the sunset reflects off the waves that come in and out of her reach. sometimes, they become LARGER as katara’s hand tightens and releases. “ NOTHING. you have to let me do this, aang. ” he didn’t understand. this man KILLED her mother. she needed to look him in the eye. but she couldn’t do so without knowing aang was with her every move from this point forward. she needed his SUPPORT, now more than ever, even if she told herself she didn’t.  “ besides, zuko will be there. he knows the southern raiders, aang. he can take me right to him. but i need to know you’re WITH ME.”

tw ; zodiac signs

@bendsair / @ghoulfed / @locksfate​ it has been brought to my attention that you believe in zodiac signs having a significant affect on your relationship with people you know, and you allow their signs to be a determining factor in whether or not you will like or not like the person. i’m here to tell you that your reasoning is flawed for primarily this reason : zodiac signs do not dictate your personality.

a zodiac sign is simply a constellation of stars that you are born under. it holds no affect on what your personality is, what your personality may end up becoming, and/or who you are going to get along best with. the reason why many people believe in zodiac signs has to do with the Barnum effect; the tendency to accept certain information as true, such as character assessments or horoscopes, even when the information is so vague as to be worthless. It’s pretty self explanatory, but in simpler terms, it means that everything you read about the signs are so vague that it can be applied to everything.

they’re fun to read about, but they have nothing to do with the way someone acts or how they connect with other people. it doesn’t determine your experiences in life or how you handle certain situations.
