Ben chairs

What a sorry sight these Ben Chairs were when they came to me. They had been used on a building site and bore the signs of this clearly. Manufactured in Frome, Somerset in the mid 20th century, these chairs have a great shape and sturdy frame, worthy of giving a new lease of life. All the original vinyl and foam was removed from the frames and replaced with new fire retardant foam. I decided on a top cover of wool for a few reasons; it is naturally fire retardant so can be used over foam without and inter-liner (meaning less chemicals being applied to the fabric). It also is hard wearing and  has good stretch - helpful around the curves.I used the two colours to accentuate the shape of the back.
